I was scared what folks would think about me if I went back to Islam and this went on for years. About 4 years ago, Dec 31st, 2016 I decided I would live my life for ME. Me alone! I came back to Islam. I feel fulfilled. I’m happier. I have received more Blessings this way. My Oldest son practices Islam prays and Fasts as well.

I have nothing against Islam – Wike

The Governor of Rivers, Nyesome Wike on Sunday says he has nothing against Islam or any faith.

Wike made the remarks while showing the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi the site of the mosque he allegedly demolished in Port Harcourt.

A statement issued by NGF’s Head of Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo in Abuja, said that Fayemi was in Port-Hacourt to verify the true situation about the issue.

Wike claimed that there was no mosque at the site, but a sewage line.

“I have nothing against Islam or any faith for that matter.

” As you can see there was never a mosque on this ground instead it is a sewage site which has been in contention between the state government and some groups because they want to develop on prohibited land.”

Wike appreciated the NGF Chairman, who was accompanied by the Director General of the Forum, Mr Asishana Okauru, for taking time to visit and verify the truth about the situation.

He also commended Fayemi’s leadership style which he described as exemplary, noting that he did not join those who rushed to judgement on the matter.

According to the NGF statement, “those who yelled about the demolition were being plain mischievous.”

It said “there was nothing there to show that a mosque ever existed on the site.”

It recalled that the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Jaamatul Nasir Islam, the umbrella body of all Muslims in Nigeria, Sa’ad Abubakar had earlier called for caution on the matter.

Abubakar called for restraint by Muslims in their reaction to the alleged demolition of the mosque in the Transamadi area of Port Harcourt.

Abubakar in a statement issued in Kaduna, said that caution and restraint was necessary to allow the leadership of the Muslim Ummah “find a lasting solution with wisdom” on the said demolition of the mosque.

The Sultan had enjoined Muslims to be guided by the Qur’anic teaching of introspection and perseverance, truthfulness and sincerity.

  • Hate crimes: Islamic organization launches civil rights app

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has last week launched a new civil rights app that allows users report incidents of hate crimes.

“It has been on the back burner for some time. Its development got accelerated though with the election of Donald Trump,” spokesman for CAIR, Ibrahim Hooper told CNN.

“It’s on a daily basis now that we are issuing a statement about some hate crime somewhere in the country, some days multiple incidents.

“One of the reasons we wanted to make the app is because that’s how so many young people access the world, they feel more comfortable using an app than making a phone call sometimes,” Ibrahim further stated.

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization recently released a report showing a 57 percent increase in anti-Muslim incidents in 2016 over the previous year, according to a CAIR press release.

This spike in anti-Muslim incidents, the CAIR press release states, was accompanied by a 44 percent increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes during the same period.

According to the release, the CAIR civil rights app is free to use, and offers advice about an individual’s constitutional rights.

“We urge all American Muslims and their supporters to download CAIR’s app and to take advantage of its much-needed features, particularly the function allowing reporting of bias incidents,” CAIR National Executive Director, Nihad Awad said in a statement.

CAIR is hoping that an easier reporting process will make the number of incidents reported closer to the number that actually occur.

“A lot of these incidents go unreported so anything we can do to make it easier to report, we want to do,” Ibrahim said.

TheNewsGuru reports CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization.

Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

  • Begging has no basis in Islam, says Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, said on Saturday that begging has no basis in Islam and challenged those engaging in the act to find legitimate means of earning a living.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar made the remark in Sokoto at the graduation of 2000 women trained in various skills by the Wife of Sokoto State Governor Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal.

The training was conducted in collaboration with Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission to empower the women drawn from the 86 districts of the state.

The Sultan said, “our women should always desist from street begging, as it has no base in Islam and it only generates more harm than good among the society.

Women have always been the pillars for any societal development, so we need to do more in encouraging and supporting their living standard in order to yield a better society.

Moreover empowering women is one of the positive base to a better, secured and productive society.”

He commended Mrs Tambuwal for initiating the programme and admonished the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity to enhace their livelihood.

Earlier, the governor’s wife had expressed appreciation to the Sultanate Council, the state government and Zakkat commission for supporting the initiative.

She said that the skills training was principally to make women in the state self reliant.

Mrs Tambuwal, who was represented by Hajiya Hauwa Muhammad, called on the beneficiaries to apply the new skills they acquired to uplift their economic status and contribute to the overall development of the state.

The Overseer of the Zakat commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, said that the 2000 women were carefully selected and empowered to live above the poverty line.

  • Catholic born Lindsay Lohan considers Islam

Lindsay Lohan caused a stir when she was pictured carrying a copy of the Koran on the first day of community service in New York last summer. She has finally spoken out about her newfound love of Islam, revealing she has been studying the religion to satisfy her intellectual curiosity and spiritual nature. According to her: “I’m a very spiritual person and I’m really open to learning.”

Lindsay has deleted all her posts on social media as she puts this Arabic phrase “Alaikum Salam” which means “Peace be unto you” on her Instagram bio. This has ignited speculations of her converting to Islam.

In time past, she has faced a lot of backlash for carrying the Qur’an and wearing a headscarf. She defended herself on Turkish TV show where she had an appearance.

“They crucified me for it in America. They made me seem like Satan. I was a bad person for holding that Qur’an. I was so happy to leave and go back to London after that, because I felt so unsafe in my own country. If this [Islam] is something that I want to learn, this is my own will.”
