    Gov. Oyebanji mourns Islamic cleric, Arikeuyo

    Ekiti Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has commiserated with the family of the popular Islamic cleric, Alhaji Olowoyo Arikeuyo, the Awiye Adinni of Ekiti, who died on Thursday, describing his departure as unfortunate.

    This is contained in a statement by Oyebanji’s Special Adviser, Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, on Saturday and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti.

    The governor, according to the statement, also commiserates with the Muslim community in the state, under the leadership of the Grand Imam and President General, League of Imams and Alfas Southwest, Delta and Edo states, Alhaji Jamiu Kewulere.

    He urged the Muslim faithful to remain steadfast, knowing that Allah, being the author of life, could give and take at anytime.

    The governor, who recalled that he was in touch with the late Islamic cleric throughout the period of his sickness, urged his family and associates to take solace in the fact that the late Arikeuyo served Allah as a true believer and remained faithful till the end.

    Oyebanji further described the late Arikeuyo as a fearless preacher, saying the late cleric would be missed for his forthrightness and penchant for speaking truth to power.

    “Alhaji Arikeuyo served Allah faithfully till he breathed his last. His ministry impacted many lives and that should serve as a consolation to his family.

    “ On behalf of the Government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with the immediate and extended family of the late Alhaji Arikeuyo and the Muslim community in the state on the passing of the frontline preacher,” the statement quoted Oyebanji.

    He prayed that the Almighty Allah would grant him aljannah firdaus and grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Death sentence on Islamic cleric excites group in Zamfara

    A Zamfara-based Islamic group on Wednesday in Gusau commended Kano Upper Shari’a Court for convicting an Islamic scholar, Abduljabbar Kabara to death by hanging for blasphemy.

    The Kano Upper Shari’a Court sentenced Kabara to death by hanging on Dec. 15, 2022, over blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad.

    Chairman of the “Joint Youths Islamic Organisations’’, Malam Sanusi Kwatarkwashi gave the kudos to the court at an interactive session with the media and some Islamic organisations.

    “We commend Kano State government for arraigning the cleric at a competent Islamic Court over blasphemy.

    “That was a good lesson for people like Kabara who thought they could blaspheme the prophet of Islam and go scot free.

    “We also appreciate the Judge, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola for the justifiable judgment that sentenced Kabara to death by hanging.

    “On behalf of all Islamic organisations in Zamfara, we are appealing to Kano State government to continue to pursue the case.

    “We as Muslims are assiduously waiting for the day when Kabara will be hanged publicly to serve as a lesson to other blasphemers,’’ he said.

    In his remarks, Chairman, Zamfara Ulama (clerics) Consultative Council, Sheikh Abubakar Fari said the judgment showed that Kano State and Muslims adhere to the rule of law and to due judicial process.

    Sheikh Fari called on people of the two states to continue to pray for peace and stability in Nigeria as a whole.

    Also speaking, Chairman, Zamfara Preaching and Jumu’a Mosque Commission, Sheikh Aminu Aliyu described Kabara’s actions as ugly and worthy of condemnation as they were totally against the teachings of Islam.

    Also chairman of Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah in Zamfara, Alhaji Na’alla Zurmi said Islamic organisations were ready to support Kano State government to follow up the case up to the Supreme Court.

    In his remarks, Chairman, Zamfara Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Aliyu Abdullahi said Islamic law and the Supreme Court also recommended death penalty for blasphemers.

    Abdullahi urged Muslims to always adhere to due process and to go through court processes at all times to address issues.

    BLASPHEMY: Ganduje set to sign death warrant of Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar

    Following the conviction and sentencing of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, to death by hanging after an Upper Sharia Court in Kano found him guilty of the charge of blasphemy, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is ready to sign the death warrant.

    This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Lawan Musa, in a chat, while reacting to the conviction and sentencing of Abduljabbar to death by hanging.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the charge of blasphemy leveled against the Islamic cleric was brought by the state government.

    Musa said the governor remains committed to ensuring that there is no breakdown of law and order in the state, adding that the judgment of the court was a vindication of the case brought by the state government against the cleric, which shows no one is above the law.

    In his words: “Nobody will be allowed to break the law without the necessary actions being taken. We took him (Abduljabbar) to court and gave him all the necessary things to defend himself and today, we thank God, the court has seen that we do have a case against him and has convicted him accordingly.

    “Just as it (position of the governor) has not changed in the case of Hanifa, it has equally not changed on this. You know there are a lot of procedures to follow and His Excellency is ever ready; once that warrant is brought before him, he is going to sign it.”

    Recall that earlier, Gov. Ganduje said his administration would follow the blasphemy case involving Abduljabbar to a logical conclusion.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Abduljabbar is a controversial Islamic cleric and a Qadiriyya scholar that was based in Kano, Nigeria. He was accused of blasphemy towards the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

    He is the son of Nasuru Kabara, the former leader of the Qadiriyya sect of West Africa, He is a junior brother to Karibullah Nasir Kabara the successor of their late father Nasuru Kabara.

    Police arrest 2 soldiers over murder of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni

    The Police Command in Yobe has arrested two soldiers over their alleged involvement in the murder of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami, in Yobe.

    Dungus Abdulkarim, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the command’s spokesman, announced the arrest of the suspects on Tuesday in Damaturu.

    Abdulkarim said that on Aug. 19, police operatives apprehended the suspects, Lance Cpl John Gabriel and Lance Cpl Adamu Gideon in connection with the Sheik’s murder.

    He said both soldiers were from 241 RECCE Battalion, Nguru, Yobe.

    Preliminary investigation revealed that the cleric who was traveling from Kano state gave a ride to Gabriel, the principal suspect.

    However, on their way to Jaji-Maji, a village along Gashua town, where the soldier said he was going to, he allegedly told the deceased that there was an unusual noise at the rear tire, which made Aisami to stop.

    It was when the cleric came down to check the tires that Gabriel allegedly brought out his rifle concealed in a camp bed and shot him to death.

    He then dragged the body and hid it in the bush and tried to take off with the deceased’s car, which, however, failed to start.

    The principal suspect called Gideon, the second suspect, on phone to assist in towing the vehicle.

    In another development the police spokesman also said that on Aug. 14, the command arrested one Jobdi Muhammadu, aged 42.

    He said that the suspect was a member of the kidnapping syndicate allegedly terrorising communities in parts of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe..

    He added that the command also arrested two suspected armed robbers who specialised in breaking into people’s houses and vehicles.

    “The modus operandi of these hoodlums is to hibernate in market and bank premises and watch out for potential victims.”

    He said that the suspects would eventually trail and swoop on customers who withdraw large sums of money by burgling their vehicles or homes.

    The PPRO, on behalf of the command, commiserated with the family of the deceased cleric and appreciated the cooperation and support of the Yobe Government.

    He urged citizens to continue to support the police by providing useful and credible information at all times.

    Army set to reveal the identities of soldiers involved in killing Islamic cleric in Yobe state

    The Army in Yobe state has launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing of an Islamic cleric  Sheikh Goni Aisami by two suspected soldiers in the state.

    The headquarters of Sector Operation Hadin Kai is presently on the trail of the two suspected soldiers involved in the dastardly act.

    This piece of information was contained in a statement signed and released  to newsmen by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Sector, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu

    He noted that the Sector had also instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.

    “At the end of the investigation, the soldiers would be made to face the full wrath of both military and civil laws.

    “This incident is highly regrettable given the Sector’s disposition and zero tolerance for violation of Code of Conduct and Rules of engagement for troops”, Capt. Anyanwu said.

    The Sector commiserated with the family of the victim and the good people of Yobe State while pledging that justice would be served accordingly.

    Buni mourns slain Yobe cleric, orders thorough investigation

    Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Sunday expressed sadness over the murder of Sheikh Goni Aisami, an Islamic cleric based in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of the state.

    Newsmen reports that Aisami was allegedly shot dead by two soldiers on Friday in Jaji-Maji, Karasuwa Local Government Area of the state.

    DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Spokesman of the Police Command in the state, said the soldiers, who attempted to steal the deceased’s car, were arrested and would be prosecuted.

    Buni, in a statement issued in Damaturu by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, described the circumstances surrounding the murder as sad, regrettable and most unfortunate.

    “The alleged circumstances surrounding the death is most unfortunate and will be investigated thoroughly.

    “Government will ensure that every detail is investigated and anyone found wanting, will face the full wrath of the law.

    “The state government will work closely with the security agencies to unravel every detail to ensure justice is done,” he said.

    The governor condoled with the family of the deceased, the people of Bade local government area and the entire state over the death of Aisami.

    Buni called on them to remain calm and law abiding as investigation was ongoing and would be pursued to its logical conclusion.

    He prayed to Allah for the repose of the soul of the deceased and give his immediate family and the entire people of the state, the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Islamic cleric arrested for killing and cutting female customer’s body part

    An islamic cleric, Alfa Tiamiyu Abass, has been arrested by Atiba Police Division, Oyo State Police Command for allegedly butchering the body of a hairdresser whose name was given as Barakat.

    The unfortunate incident happened in Oyetoro community, in the Oyo West Local Government Area of the state few days ago.

    It was gathered that the police recovered the victim’s body parts from the house of the cleric.

    Findings show that residents had been suspecting Abass’ movement and activities after he moved into the community about two years ago.

    On Sunday, May 15, members of the community were said to have perceived an offensive odour, which they traced to the suspect’s house and found Barakat’s butchered body.

     

    A resident of the community , Mr Siyanbola Akinkunmi, mentioned that the suspect, after he was caught, confessed to committing the heinous crime.

    According to him “When the body was discovered, all fingers pointed toward Abass. A community meeting was held later that evening and everyone was on the lookout for him.

    “Around 11pm, the door of his apartment opened and he came out with a nylon bag. A young boy confronted him and alerted other community members. When the nylon bag was searched, substances suspected to be human brains were discovered inside.”

    It was gathered that Abass fled, but was pursued and caught by residents and was taken to his room, where more human parts, including a female head, were found.

    Findings show that Barakat’s body was later identified by her husband and sister.

    Her husband was said to have two weeks’ earlier reported to the Amotekun Corps in the town that his wife went missing.

    Another eyewitness, Hammid Oyekola, who also shared the incident on Facebook, said the suspect was in police custody.

    “The police chained him to their bus. When he was later taken back home for searching, they found some skulls in his room,” he added.

    The Divisional Police Officer, Atiba Police Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, confirmed the incident adding that the case had been transferred to the Iyaganku police divisional headquarters for further investigation

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed the incident.

    He said, “On May 15, 2022 around 6.30pm, one Oyerinde Gbadegein reported at the Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters that around 1pm of the same day, a corpse was seen dumped by the side of a stream on Jibola Afonja Street, Oyo town.

    “On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives from the Atiba division swung into action and proceeded to the scene. It was discovered that the corpse was that of a lady of about 25 years packed in a sack bag, which was already decomposing with the head, hands, toes and flesh from the thigh cut off from the body. One Alfa Tiamiyu Abass was arrested in connection with the case.

    “Upon interrogation, the said Alfa Tiamiyu Abass confessed to have killed the deceased, one Barakat, who happened to be his customer. He stated further that he and one Qudus, now at large, perpetrated the act. A search was conducted in his house and all the parts removed from the deceased’s body were recovered. However, investigation is ongoing to arrest the said Qudus for possible prosecution.”

    Islamic cleric, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello on Sunday, advised Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to be wary of enemies within ahead of the 2022 governorship poll.

    Sheikh Bello spoke in Ikire at the Islamic Life Time Award and launch of an Islamic Hospital, organised by United Imams and Khateeb, Irewole Local Government, Ikire, where the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji bagged an Islamic lifetime award.

    In his message at the event, Bello also charged all those working with the governor to remain loyal and give their total support for him to realise his second term ambition.

    He said, “Continue what you are doing, your great works will speak for your re-election. We are aware of what you are doing. Just continue to believe in God, He is your strength, He will not forsake you.

    “My advice for you is to be wary of enemies within. God will make you succeed, you will conquer them and come out victorious. For those that are working with you, they must remain loyal. They must support you wholeheartedly particularly on your second term ambition. God will answer your prayers. You will triumph over all those plotting against your ambition.”

    In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ismail Omipidan, on Sunday, Oyetola who lauded the Finance Commissioner, Oyebamiji for impacting the lives of the people, pledged that his administration would continue to support his vision.

    He also said, “Let’s continue to ensure peace and maintain the relatively peaceful atmosphere around the state. It is time for us to be more security conscious ever than before. It is time for us to cultivate skills acquisition, vocational and technical skills. This is the way to go.”

    Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi loses mother

    Hajiya Aminatu Bintu, mother to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has passed on.

    This was made known via the Facebook handle of the controversial Islamic cleric who had constantly called for amnesty for bandits.

    The deceased is the widow of Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, also an outspoken Islamic scholar and Grand Khadi of the Northern Region of Nigeria (1962–1967).

    Abubakar Gumi was a close associate of Ahmadu Bello, the premier of the Northern region in the 1950s and 1960s, and became the Grand Khadi in 1967.

    Bintu will be buried later today at Sheikh Abubakar Gumi’s house at 4.30pm.
