    Panic as Coronavirus patient escapes from isolation centre

    A Coronavirus patient has escaped from an isolation centre where she was being kept with eight others.

    The culprit is one of the eight Guineans who tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

    She escaped from the facility in which they were being quarantined in Tamale, Ghana.

    So far, Ghana has recorded 152 cases of Coronavirus, with five death and two recovery.

    According to the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, the patient, a woman in her early 20s, scaled over a wall leaving behind her belongings on Monday.

    He described it as “a very disturbing situation because she is positive” with the novel coronavirus.

    “Since yesterday, up till this morning, I have not slept, with my security people. I directed that they should use all their networks to be able to track the person down and get her,” Mr. Saeed told the media.

    According to Citi News, there were two police and two soldiers who were guarding the guest house where the infected persons were being monitored.

    Despite the gravity of the situation, Saeed urged citizens to remain calm.

    “Our people are safe… we are working very hard to ensure that the people don’t get too panicked. Nobody should be afraid because the security personnel are on top of the issues.”

  • Coronavirus: Obasanjo donates former Hilltop residence for Isolation centre

    Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday, announced that his former residence at the Presidential Hilltop, Abeokuta, Ogun State be used as Isolation centre for victims of the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.

    Obasanjo said the 32-room facility has been handed over to the Ogun State Government for immediate take over.

    The Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi who confirmed the development said that the former President was concerned about the pandemic, “And I think those who can in one way or another assist in this situation should do so,” he was quoted as having said.

    The facility located off the Presidential Boulevard, Oke Sari, Abeokuta has each of the 32 rooms ensuite, with a standby generator.

  • Arsenal coach, Arteta sends message to Premier League from Isolation centre

    Mikel Arteta says he is “feeling better already” a day after Arsenal announced their head coach had tested positive for coronavirus.

    Arteta, the first-team squad and coaching staff have been self-isolating in line with government health guidelines.

    Following the news that Arteta and Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi had tested positive the virus, the Premier League and EFL have postponed all fixtures until the weekend of April 4.

    Arteta tweeted in support of the news on Friday afternoon.

    He said, “Thanks for your words and support. Feeling better already. We’re all facing a huge and unprecedented challenge. Everyone’s health is all that matters right now.

    “Protect each other by following the guidelines and we’ll come through this together. Well done PL (Premier League) for making the right decisions.”
