Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has told Leandro Trossard to watch out this week.

Both teams are hoping they can win the Nations League, with Italy currently top of Group A2 with six points.

Calafiori stated: “I told him to watch out!

“Joking aside, he is a great player and also a great friend, but I will still try to take home the three points. It is going to be a complicated match, they have strong players, as do we.

“I prefer to focus on ourselves, because if we play the way we know how, then we can cause problems for any opponent. We did so well in the last two games and don’t want to stop now.”

Defending champions Italy crash out of Euro 2024

The Azurris of Italy on Saturday evening crashed out of the ongoing Euro 2024 tournament holding in Germany after losing 2-0 to Switzerland.

Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas scored the goals that propelled Switzerland to the quarter-finals, overcoming a surprisingly weak Italian team.

In the 37th minute,  Freuler controlled a low cross with his first touch and volleyed the ball into the bottom corner from nine yards to register the first goal of the thrilling encounter.

Upon resumption of second half, Vargas curled  an absolute beauty into the top corner in the 46th minute.

All efforts to score or reduce the deficit proved abortive for the Italians.

The results meant that defending Champions Italy are out of the tournament after failing to register a goal in the round of 16 cracker against Switzerland.

  • Euro 2024: Italy coach Spalletti fumes despite reaching last 16

Euro 2024: Italy coach Spalletti fumes despite reaching last 16

Italy coach Luciano Spalletti was furious after their 1-1 draw with Euros opponents Croatia.

The result saw Italy reach the final 16, but Spalletti was angry with their flat performance.

“When games are decided like this at the end, it all becomes more emotional, as nobody believed any more, but the players did. They kept their heads clear, risked very little despite being left with only three defenders on the field,” Spalletti told Sky Italia.

“I can only congratulate them for their reaction and dealing with such an attacking line-up on the pitch.

“There’s no denying it, we were below our usual level in the first half. If we don’t create very much, we’re not going to score very much. You can see we were thinking about bringing a result home, without really believing that we needed a win. It was involuntary, but I expect more from my players, because they show it in flashes.

“These games are difficult because Croatia are a very strong team, they have a lot of experience at this level and can cause problems for anyone they face.”

He also snapped: “We were absolutely not prudent. If the limitation is that we struggle to play out from the back with simple balls, then we will struggle with any line-up or any tactical system that we use.

“In the first half, we lost the ball in ways we absolutely cannot afford to do. That’s not prudence. If we don’t play with quality, if we do the basics and nothing more, then we will struggle.

“It was not about the system, we were too timid in the first half, but the system was irrelevant compared to the attitude and quality seen on the field.”

Euro 2024: Capello declares Calafiori ‘an absolute champion’

Former England manager Fabio Capello admits he’s a fan of Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The young centre-half has been a revelation for Italy at the Euros this month.

Capello told Sky Italia afterwards: “Calafiori does some things… Everyone thinks he puts the ball centrally, instead with the outside he puts the ball over there.

“For me he is an absolute champion, I compared him to Sergio Ramos… He gave him the ball with the right force, the right measure.”
