    Iyanya recounts missing out on Nigerian Idol due to exams

    Popular Nigerian singer, Iyanya has disclosed that he was amongst the selected contestants for the first season of Nigerian Idol back in 2007.

    According to the Afrobeat star during a recent interview with Hip TV, he had attended the first audition in Calabar, Cross River State along with Omawunmi, who later became the first runner-up.

    The singer said he was unable to participate in the finals due to conflicting university final-year exams.

    The singer added that, despite this setback, his musical journey didn’t stall, explaining that a year later, he went on to win the first edition of Project Fame West Africa, marking a significant milestone in his career.

    Relishing being co-judge of the ongoing season of the Nigerian Idols with Omawunmi, Iyanya said, “Omawumi and I were the only ones picked at the Calabar Nigerian Idol auditions. I couldn’t make it. I had my final year exam. A year later, I won Project Fame. Today, we’re both judges on Nigerian Idol.

    Iyanya reacts after a social media user downplayed his musical achievements

    Nigerian singer Iyanya has reacted after a social media user downplayed his musical achievements while explaining why Wizkid is “hated” in the music industry.

    A social media user with the X handle @itzbasito had written:

    “Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself” to which another user @Xperience_Snr reposted, saying expectations for Wizkid is for him to end up like Iyanya and Samklef.

    The X user wrote, “Same reason why Drake gets a lot of hate. The whole entertainment industry didn’t expect that little tiny white boy to get that far.

    “Wizkid was supposed to end up like Samklef and Iyanya.”

    His argument didn’t sit well with Iyanya, especially the insinuation that his once-buzzing career didn’t live up to expectations.

    Quoting the tweet, Iyanya fumed:

    “You will end up like your father.”

    In another post, the singer lamented: “This space is toxic, y’all just wake up and undermine a creative’s years of work.”

    Nigerian singer Iyanya has revealed that he endorsed his estranged Ghanaian girlfriend, actress Yvonne Nelson’s controversial memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ without knowing she wrote negative things about him in the book.

    It would be recalled  that the Ghanaian diva, in a chapter titled, “Iyanya And My Love Life”, spoke about her escapades with Iyanya and how she later found out he was cheating on her with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh.

    While granting an interview on a Lagos based radio station, The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, Iyanya said he endorsed the book without knowing the content.

    The singer, who had promised to address Nelson’s allegations last year when the book came out, stated that he is still not ready to respond to his ex-girlfriend’s infidelity allegations.

    He noted that they are still in good terms and communicate regularly.

    He said, “I endorsed Yvonne Nelson’s book without knowing I was in the book. We were cool, we still talk to this day, so I didn’t know that I was in the book. When the book came out, everywhere was buzzing. People were telling me I am in the book. But I have not read it till now.

    “I know I promise to address the allegations she made in her book, but I’m not ready to respond. I’m not going to respond to stuff like that, being me comes with a lot of madness.”

    Nigerian singer, Kingsley Okonkwo popularly known as Kcee, has disclosed that he was responsible for bringing Iyanya to Lagos and accommodating him.

    In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, Kcee revealed that he hosted the Iyanya for six years.

    He also revealed that he discovered Skiibii’s ability and launched him into the spotlight.

    Despite helping numerous of his music business colleagues, Kcee admitted that he dislikes blowing his own horn.

    “I brought Iyanya to Lagos, I bought his first flight ticket. He stayed with me for six years in Lagos. I don’t talk about it.

    “I also brought Skibii to the music industry. Skibii is grateful to me for that till today. When I was recording ‘Ojapiano,’ Skibii was in the studio with me. He was a co-writer of the song. We visit each other always. We are still like father and son.

    “When I saw Skibii I was like, ‘I love this guy. I’m going to work with him.’ Even when he wasn’t popping, I always tell him, ‘Look into my eyes, you’re gonna blow. I don’t know how, I don’t know when, but you are a star. So that gave him a lot of confidence. I am that guy that know how to identify talent. When I see it, I know. And I would support.”

    Nigerian singer, Iyanya has revealed that women cheat more than men in relationships.

    Iyanya claimed that most of his male friends are single because their former lovers cheated on them, and they were hurt terribly.

    He stated this while featuring as a guest in the latest episode of Doyin’s Corner podcast hosted by reality star, Doyinsola Anuoluwapo David.

    The host, Doyin asked: “Men or women, who cheat more?”

    The “Kukere” crooner replied: “Women! It’s old gist. There is a popular song by an American rapper, I’m sure you know that song: ‘Girls cheat too. Girls bad too.’ Something like that. It has millions of views and that’s proof that women cheat more.

    “Speaking for myself and also holding it down for my guys, my single friends. 99 per cent of them are single. The reason why they are single and not even ready to date is because one or two girls they loved and focused on hurt them terribly.”

    He said he can’t cheat on his partner because he is “focused” when he is in love.

    Mayorkun’s second stolen necklace found – Iyanya

    The second necklace belonging to singer Mayorkun that was stolen during a show has been found, says Iyanya.

    Recall that the singer had gone to the state to perform at the 2023 Calabar Carnival, on the invitation of the state government.

    Mayorkun while reporting the theft  on his social media page claimed that his jewelry worth millions of naira were stolen.

    Condemning the act, he threatened never to visit the state again, as he described the incident as a ‘’nightmare”.

    On Wednesday, one of the jewelry was found and he took to his social media page to pledge a N5 million reward for anyone who returns the second one.

    Giving an update on the incident on Thursday evening, singer Iyanya announced that the second jewelry has been returned.

    Sharing the clip of how it was recovered, Iyanya wrote, “Thank you Calabar people for doing what’s right. @iammayorkun second pendant has been found.

    “This morning we got a call that it was returned to @HitFMCalabar and was received by Mr Duke Emmanuel who later transferred the pendant to Hon. Effiong Ekpenyong MNIPR, FCAI, Special Adviser Events Management, Governor’s Office, Calabar. We remain a peaceful and hospitable state.”

    Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has revealed that he almost lost his current relationship as a result of the cheating allegation levelled against him by his estranged girlfriend, Yvonne Nelson.

    Recall that the Ghanaian actress accused Iyanya of cheating on her with another actress Tonto Dikeh whilst they were dating.

    The ‘Kukere’ crooner disclosed this while appearing in the latest episode of Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor, Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, aka Taymesan.

    Recall that Yvonne Nelson in her memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ launched on June 18, 2023, narrated how she found out her ex-boyfriend, Iyanya, was cheating on her with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh.

    Iyanya said after the book was released, someone he was asking out became skeptical about dating him.

    He said, “That stuff [Yvonne Nelson’s allegations] is crazy, bro. That stuff almost made me lose a relationship. A current relationship.

    “Before this book [Yvonne Nelson’s memoir], I was talking to one innocent girl who is not famous but immediately that book came out, everything became shaky. The girl was feeling like, ‘Omo, this guy, have you changed? Are you sure you won’t do me the same?’”

    Popular Nigerian  singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, simply known as Iyanya, has revealed why most reality TV show winners don’t ‘blow up’ after winning the competition.

    According to Iyanya, who won the season 1 of Project Fame West Africa Season, said the majority of reality TV show winners don’t have the intention of being famous.

    Iyanya made this known while featuring on a show on Hip TV.

    He words, “Obviously, most people who win these reality shows don’t have any plans of being famous or anything. It just happened to them. Yeah, he has a nice voice, tried it and he won.

    “So, I believe that the people who go further are the people who prayed for that platform. And they finally got it and they are like, ‘I’m not going back from here.’ That is how I look at it.”

    Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, simply known on stage as  Iyanya, has explained why he didn’t address Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson’s cheating allegations in her recently published book.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the actress claimed in the book that Iyanya cheated on her with Tonto Dikeh while they were dating.

    The ‘Kukere’ crooner said he would be criticized by many should he tell his own side of the story.

    He, however, said regardless of the backlash his reply would earn, he is still going to tell his side of the story soon.

    Taking to his Twitter handle on Wednesday, the singer wrote, “Y’all waiting for my side of the story? If I talk now, I’ll be accused of kissing and telling, sluts shaming, etc.

    But something gat to give, so wait for it.”

    Iyanya’s tweet is coming hours after Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie released a new song titled, ‘Try Me’ to address Yvonne Nelson’s claims that he drove her to the clinic to abort the baby after impregnating her in 2010.

    In the song, the rapper debunked the allegations, insisting that he kicked against Yvonne Nelson’s decision to abort the pregnancy but she said she can’t keep it because she was in school.

    Sarkodie admitted that he wasn’t ready to be a father then, but added that he asked the actress to keep the pregnancy.

    Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson revealed how she found out that her Nigerian ex-boyfriend, singer Iyanya cheated on her with Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh.

    The beautiful Ghanaian actress made this revelation known in her newly released memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ launched on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

    In a chapter titled “Iyanya and My Love Life”, the actress spoke about her escapades with Iyanya and how she later found out he was cheating on her.

    Nelson explained that Iyanya had tattooed her name on his waist and she felt that singing about her too in one of his songs was an assurance they would live happily ever after.

    She said she was shocked when someone called her from Iyanya’s house after she returned to Ghana and broke the shocking news to her.

    “The caller said anytime I left Iyanya’s place, another actress come over to him and sometimes slept over. The person felt strongly that there was something going on between them and thought I should know. That actress turned out to be Tonto Dikeh of Nigeria and one of the female celebrities Iyanya named in his “Ur Waist” song. When I was convinced about the authenticity of the information I received, I was heartbroken,” the book partly reads.

    She, however, said she knew she would have eventually left the relationship even if Tonto Dikeh hadn’t come into the picture, adding that she didn’t see any reason to keep fighting for a man she had lost.

    Recall thatIn 2012, both the Ghanaians and Nigerian entertainment industries were shaken by news that the very public relationship between actress Yvonne Nelson and musician Iyanya had come to an end.
