Why we suspended national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu – PDP

It’s no longer news that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchia Ayu has been suspended by the party.

Ayu’s suspension was effected by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

The Ward Secretary Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum while addressing the media on Sunday, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman, explained that Dr. Ayu was suspended by the executive for alleged anti party activities.

The Secretary stated that the decision to suspend the National Chairman was reached after the leadership reviewed his conduct at the end of the just concluded general elections.

According to him, “We observed with utmost dismay that, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu who is the National Chairman of the PDP worked against the success of the party in Igyorov Council Ward.

“It is on record that, he has also failed to pay his Annual Subscription Fees as provided under Section 8 (9) of the constitution of the PDP 2017 (As Amended).

“Further investigation also revealed that, he did not vote during the Governorship and State Assembly Elections held on March 18, 2023.

“It was also discovered that, most of his closest allies worked for the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, and hence, the abysmal performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.

“In view of the foregoing, we hereby pass a Vote of No Confidence on Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and suspend him as a member of our party with immediate effect. The suspension takes effect from March 24, 2023.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has described the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as irrelevant to the party.

The Rivers -born politician added that the 2023 general elections is an indication that Ayu has brought no political value to the party.

He made this comment while speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt the  Rivers state capital, the governor vowed never to leave PDP for Ayu and his allies.

He noted that Ayu lost his polling unit, his ward and senatorial district in Benue State.

Wike noted that he ensured that PDP won all Senatorial districts in Rivers State.

According to Wike: “Rivers is PDP. The governorship and national assembly members are PDP. Ayu lost his polling unit. I won three senatorial seats, 32 house of Assembly seats. He didn’t get anything.

“Babangida Aliyu did not win. So who is the betrayer? We won to make sure PDP exist. Of what relevance is he as national chairman? He couldn’t deliver his polling unit.

“Mention one state that PDP did what Rivers State did, who loves PDP more? I am saying the NWC must do the right thing. I cannot leave this party. Ayu left and came back.”

Recall that Wike and the remaining G-5 governors have been calling on the removal of Ayu as the party National Chairman citing intra-party arrangement.

The governor had called for Ayu’s removal following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP presidential candidate.

PDP Crisis: Wike reveals what Iyiorcha Ayu did to offend him

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has revealed what the National Chairman Iyiorcha Ayu did to him to ensure that he doesn’t emerge as the presidential candidate of the party.

The Rivers-born politician made this known during a live media chat with journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday.

“There’s nothing Ayu did not do for me not to emerge as the PDP candidate,” Wike said.

“Ayu did everything to manipulate the system to ensure that all the numbers did not add up.”

Recall that the PDP held its presidential primaries in May this year.

Atiku defeated Wike after he secured 371 votes, while the governor, who came second, garnered 237 votes.

Wike also lost out in the Vice presidential race to Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

However, Wike has assured everyone that he will remain in the party to fight on.

Ayu fires shots at Wike, says Rivers Gov was a child when PDP was formed

The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyiorcha Ayu has fired shots at the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, saying the Rivers State Governor was but a child when the party was formed.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ayu also described Governor Wike and members of his camp calling for his resignation as mere noisemakers and children, who were not available when he and other party chieftains laboured to form the party.

Speaking in an interview on the Hausa service of BBC on Wednesday, the PDP National Chairman argued the presidential candidacy of Atiku Abubakar does not in any way affect his position as the party’s National Chairman.

“I was voted as PDP Chairman for a four-year tenure and I’m yet to complete a year. Atiku’s victory doesn’t affect the Chairman’s position. I won my election based on our party’s constitution,” Ayu said.

When asked in specific terms about the call by Wike’s camp for his resignation among other conditions to support Atiku, he said: “All that he is doing does not affect me because I know I am fixing the party. I am doing my work diligently, I have not committed any offence. I have not stolen any money, so there is no reason for my resignation.

“When we started PDP, these children were not around. They are children who do not know why we formed the party. We will not allow any individual to destabilize our party. This is our country, so all that is expected of us is to fix the country, provide security and dividends of democracy when we take over power in 2023,” he said.

There have been cracks within the PDP camp since the outcome of the party national convention that produced Atiku as the party presidential candidate and the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

Governor Wike was considered alongside Governor Okowa for the running mate slot. However, the Rivers State Governor became resentful after Atiku chose the Delta State Governor as his running mate. Although the PDP set up a panel to reconcile the two men, Wike insisted on the removal of the party’s chairman to mend the cracks in the party.

TNG reports that Atiku had last week met with the Governor in the United Kingdom as part of the reconciliation process
