Anyim writes Ayu again as Ebonyi delegates list crisis gets messier

PDP frontline presidential aspirant, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim has written a second open letter to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Iyorchia Ayu complaining about the manipulation of the delegates list for Ebonyi State.

The second letter which came less than ten hours after the first, complained that the authentic list of delegates from the state had been changed and replaced with people who were not elected as delegates.

In the first letter, the former President of the Senate had complained that Ebonyi delegates names were completely missing from the PDP’s national delegates list.

The second letter was also copied to Sen. David Mark, Chairman of the 2022 PDP Special Convention.

Titled: “Re: Open Letter on the Absence of Ebonyi State Delegates List”, the letter reads, “The Chairman may refer to my earlier letter of today the 27th day of May 2022 and captioned as above.

“I am to observe that shortly after my letter, I noticed in an official publication by the party, list of Ebonyi State Delegates alongside other states.

“It is disheartening that by 6pm today, the Ebonyi State Delegates List has changed from what was officially published.

“There is no doubt that the aim of this gamble with Ebonyi State Delegates List is to disenfranchise duly elected delegates from Ebonyi State from participating in the presidential primary election.

“Let it be on record that anybody not on the list originally published by the party, is certainly not a delegate from Ebonyi State”, Anyim cautioned.

Court fixes date to hear suit seeking to stop PDP’s presidential primary election

The Federal High Court, Abuja has fixed May 10, for a hearing in a suit seeking to stop the planned May 28, Presidential Primary Election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A presidential aspirant, Mr Cosmas Ndukwe, filed an ex-parte application for an order of injunction restraining the PDP from proceeding with its scheduled primary election.

When the matter was called on Thursday, counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Paul Erokoro (SAN), told the court that he received PDP’s affidavit stating why the primary election should not be stopped late on Wednesday.

Erokoro prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to peruse the document and respond to the reasons adduced to by the PDP against the suit of his client.

Counsel to the PDP, Mr Mahmud Magaji (SAN), as well as counsel to the other defendants, did not oppose the request for an adjournment.

Justice Donatus Okorowo, subsequently fixed May 10, to hear the matter and asked parties to file and exchange their processes ahead of the day.

Ndukwe, former Deputy Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, had on April 28, filed an ex parte application for an order of injunction restraining the PDP from proceeding with its scheduled primary election.

He said the primary election should be put on hold pending the hearing and determination of his suit, challenging the position of the party on the issue of zoning the party’s presidential ticket.

Justice Okorowo, rather than grant Ndukwe’s request, ordered that the PDP should appear before him on May 5, and show cause why the court should not grant Ndukwe’s request.

Ndukwe listed the PDP, its National Chairman, Mr Iyorchia Ayu, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as defendants in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2022.

  • 2023: PDP National Chairman, Ayu tells Atiku what to do to get party’s presidential ticket

2023: PDP National Chairman, Ayu tells Atiku what to do to get party’s presidential ticket

National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on what to do to get the party’s presidential ticket.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Senator Ayu gave the advice while responding to remarks made by Atiku, who was at the PDP’s National Secretariat, Abuja to interact with members of the party’s National Working Committee on Thursday.

In his remarks, Ayu vowed not to allow his personal relationship with the former Vice President to influence the party’s decision on its 2023 presidential ticket, stressing that he will not work for Atiku as an aspirant, but will work for all the party’s 17 aspirants.

“Let me start by acknowledging that you and I have been friends for over 30 years. As it was indicated, we were key players in the Social Democratic Party. We’ve been working politically together, you are a presidential aspirant today, I want people to know that you are still my friend. I can’t deny you, I never deny my friends including those who are at the other disastrous party.

“I’m saying this that those who say oh, because of my personal relationship with you, as chairman, I will work for you. Mr Vice President, I will not work for you as an aspirant, I will work for all the 17 aspirants.

“It is left for you to convince the delegates of our party that you are the best, you have to market yourself, you have to work hard, this NWC, for now, will remain an umpire, we are not going to take sides with any particular aspirant but we love you all,” Ayu said.

Meanwhile, Atiku, while informing the NWC of his desire to seek the party’s nomination to contest the 2023 presidential election, recalled his long-standing relationship with most, if not all members of the party’s NWC.

“Very many of you in this National Working Committee, have interacted with me politically and otherwise for a very, very long time. I don’t have to tell you what I am, what qualifications I have and what I can do for this party and for this country,” Atiku said.

According to him, his desire to lead Nigeria was anchored on his desire to unify Nigerians, secure their lives and property, as well as improve the economy among other things.

“Secondly, I said I was going to deal with security issues. There has to be security before anything else. Mr Chairman and members of the NWC, about 7 months ago, I was on a visit to Niger State and I decided to pay a courtesy call on the Governor and the Governor told me ‘Sir, we have about 12 local governments which are under the control of bandits, we don’t know how to conduct elections in those local governments and I went to the President and said we need more policemen and the President said ‘how can I give you more policemen when the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission are in the court on who will recruit policemen.’ I cannot be that kind of President.

“And that is where we are as at today. We cannot recruit policemen because the two agencies are in court. We have a president who cannot two agencies under control; his own heads of the department, not even ministers.

“I’m not going to be that kind of President because you and I Mr Chairman have worked in the same cabinet before. I’m here to inform you of my decision to run again. I urge you to provide the environment for the best candidate to emerge. Mr Chairman, I dare say I’m the best candidate.

“Under normal circumstances, this is a guy who already has 11 million votes in the kitty and I feel like a party, I should be given the right of first refusal. But we are in a democracy all that I can urge you is that the way you have started you should continue by being very fair, very credible and give every contestant to face the electorate,“ Atiku said.

  • 2023: PDP National Chairman, Governors storm Delta to resolve guber candidate crisis

2023: PDP National Chairman, Governors storm Delta to resolve guber candidate crisis

The crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Delta State over which zone should produce the next governor and the rumoured backing of two different aspirants by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Chief James Ibori has shaken the root of the party to the extent that it now requires the national leadership of the party to intervene for peace to prevail and for much needed unity to return to the party.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathers that the National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and some governors elected on the platform of the PDP are scheduled to visit the State on Friday over the prevailing crisis.

According to reliable sources, the move is to reconcile former Governor Ibori and incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa whose gubernatorial choices of interest have thrown the PDP in Delta into a crisis situation.

There is also the fear that Governor Okowa may not respect the zoning arrangement in the state as he is also rumoured to be favorably disposed to honouring an agreement he is said to have with militant kingpin, Government Ekpemukpolo, aka Tompolo, that the Ijaw ethnic group will be allowed to present the candidate of the party to succeed him in 2023.

The fear among some party members, especially those of Urhobos who constitute Delta Central, is that Okowa is trying to play Urhobo candidates against each other thereby weakening them in a bid for an Ijaw candidate to emerge.

There has been a silent but palpable war between the Ibori political family, which Governor Okowa used to belong, and new groups budding around Okowa, which is threatening the unity of the ruling party in the state.

The fight is over which group should produce the candidate of the PDP going into the primaries of the party, and preparatory to the 2023 general elections.

While Chief Ibori has made his choice known in the person of Olorogun David Edevbie, Governor Okowa despite public statements to the contrary, TNG had earlier reported from reliable sources close to the governor, that his choice is the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori or an aspirant endorsed by Tompolo.

The choice of the Governor has pitched him against his former boss, who prefers Edevbie, who has also been endorsed by the apex sociocultural organisation of the Urhobo nation, the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU).

Nevertheless, the endorsement of Edevbie by the UPU has also torn the apex Urhobo sociocultural organisation apart as members of the Union on different sides of the divide have not taken the endorsement kindly.

Following the endorsement, National Legal Adviser of UPU, Chief Isaacs Itebu, who himself is a strong promoter of Oborevwori, moved to rebuke the President General of the Union, Olorogun Moses Taiga.

The expectations of many Deltans is that the governorship should rotate back to Delta Central Senatorial District. There are also calls that it should be micro-zoned to the Okpe, Sapele, Uvwie Federal Constituency that has never produced a governor or deputy governor in the state.

Some see this as the reason the immediate past Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, who was until recently a favoured guber aspirant, was prevailed upon to drop his ambition and instead embrace a position in the State House of Assembly.

A source told TNG that after observing the situation in the party, some leaders of the party in the state, in a move to avoid the party losing the State to the All Progressives Congress (APC), invited the national leadership of the party to intervene in the matter.

“We cannot deny anymore and continue to deceive ourselves that there is no problem in our party. There is a big problem in the PDP of Delta State, of which, if not addressed meticulously ahead of the primaries, our party would be left in shreds for the opposition to take over,” a leader who sought anonymity noted.

  • Recall me after one year if I don’t perform as president – Anyim

Recall me after one year if I don’t perform as president – Anyim

Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, a presidential aspirant on Wednesday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to recall him if after one year in office he failed to perform.

Anyim, who intends to contest on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said this while making a presentation to the party’s National Working Committee (NEC) after submitting his nomination form to contest for president.

According to him, his vision is to build a Nigeria everyone will be proud of as he has the experience to make it happen having served as a senate president and as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The only request I am placing on the table today is that if you give me the ticket of PDP to fly the flag of this party for the general election of 2023,I will go ahead to win the election.

“I will return to government as president of Nigeria and if I run this country for one year, and you don’t see the difference between light and darkness, you can recall me.

“From the vantage positions I have held, I understand the challenges confronting our nation today and I have clarity of what the solutions could be.

“The purpose of my being here today is to present to you my informed pathway to rebuilding and refocusing our country on the part of growth, peace and prosperity.

“I shall outline my understanding of the problems and my evidence-informed pathway to resolving them under three broad categorizations of political, economic and social integration.’’

Anyim said that politically, his administration would consider consensus on the structure of Nigeria, governance system and National ideals or aspiration.

This, he said was because the absence of consensus on these areas accounted for the disunity and mutual suspicion that was threatening the nation presently.

He said that as part of political consolidation process, a platform would be provided for broad-based consultations and frank dialogue on a generally acceptable new foundation for Nigeria.

Anyim said that machinery would be put in place to harvest the views and secure the buy-in of all components of the polity and build consensus on the structure of the federation.

He said it would also include an acceptable governance system and benchmark agreed national aspiration to which all shall commit as consensus building would be the hallmark of his administration.

Anyim said that visionary leadership style would be deployed to respond to the aspirations of people, thereby, ensuring unity of purpose, patriotism inspired and commitment to building the dream Nigeria.

He said that industralisation would be encouraged to drastically reduce importation, improve local production and strengthen the naira among others.

Anyim promised to promote Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and review Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIPR) to make it fit for purpose and ensure it aligns with our growth ambition.

He added that talent and innovations would be the flagship of the knowledge-based component of the economic agenda by targeting to unleash the creativity of the young population.

Anyim said that Nigeria’s mode and factors of production would be repositioned through science and technology to fit into the fourth industrial revolution in all sectors.

He said that presently, the nation was under security and separationist challenges but his government would evolve national integration policies by running inclusive governance that reflected the Federal Character.

The aspirant said he would promote equality of all citizens before the law and protect the independence of the judiciary, adding that strong institutions would be built to promote and protect the sanctity of lives.

He said that women, youth and diaspora Nigerians would be adequately mainstreamed into the national development.

According to him, discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, and religion will be eliminated and citizens will play active roles in policy formulation while upholding the rule of law.

Anyim said that he would abide by the decision of the party on zoning.

According to him, democracy thrives on three certainties which are certainty of tenure, certainty of structure and certainty of process.

“At any time any of these ‘certainties’ is no longer guaranteed, democracy will corrupt justice and enthrone inequity.

“Accordingly, my appeal is that zoning being a fundamental principle of our party should not be jettisoned.

“Democracy, being a system of rules and order, depends on strong institutions for its sustenance and success. When a system can no longer defend its rules, it will enthrone the reign of might as against the rule of law.

`My appeal is that PDP should defend Section 7 (3) (c) of its constitution,’’ he said

In his remarks, the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, said that as at Wednesday afternoon, 17 aspirants comprising 16 males and one female had obtained PDP nomination and expression of interest forms.

Ayu said that this showed the strength and popularity of the PDP as well as its acceptance among Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He assured all the aspirants that the NWC would be transparent and neutral as an umpire, adding that the decision of who would emerge as flag bearer would be determined by ordinary members of the party.

Ayu enjoined all aspirants to work together for PDP to emerge victorious in 2023.

He expressed confidence in the capacity of Ayim to lead Nigeria haven worked as a civil servant, senator, Senate President and later Secretary to the Government of the Federation, adding that the party was lucky to have him.

Mrs Nkoli Mkparu, the Coordinator-General, United for Better Nigeria Initiative (UBNI), said that the group in collaboration with its partners bought the presidential form for Anyim because they believed in his ability to deliver.

“Anyim is the greatest gift given to Nigeria, who Nigerians need at this crucial time because Nigeria is a special country that requires somebody with ability, consistency, stability, humility and the right temperament to manage the nation.

“Right now, the security aspect of Nigeria is very crucial, so we believe that somebody like his excellency will unify the country, provide jobs for youths who are believed to be causing the problems because of restlessness and joblessness.

“His excellency is very futuristic and has the wisdom to create new jobs for our youths so that we can come together and embrace our country, Nigeria can lead the world with someone like his excellency.’’

  • INEC receives order for Umahi, Deputy’s replacement

INEC receives order for Umahi, Deputy’s replacement

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been ordered to receive names of candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to replace ousted Govenor Dave Umahi and his Deputy, Mr Eric Kelechi-Igwe.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order while passing a judgement that sacked Umahi and his Deputy on Tuesday.

Justice Ekwo ordered Umahi of Ebonyi State to vacate office after his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Delivering judgment, Justice Ekwo, also ordered Igwe to stop parading himself as deputy governor of the state.

The PDP had asked the court to sack Umahi, alongside his deputy, Dr Igwe, from office on account of their defection from the party to the APC.

The PDP, in an originating summons marked FHC/ABJ/CS/920/2021, urged the court to declare that by defecting from the party on which they were sponsored and elected as governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi to the APC, a political party that did not win the election, they had resigned or deemed to have resigned from office.

The plaintiff stated that the defendants purportedly defected and relinquished their membership of the PDP on which platform they contested and won the governorship election.

It said “by so doing, the defendants are deemed to have lost the majority votes scored at the election and consequently should be ordered by the court to vacate their respective offices as Governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi State.”

Other parties in the suit are the INEC and the APC as 1st and 2nd defendants respectively.

Umahi had announced his defection to APC on Nov. 17, 2020, citing “injustice” as basis of his action.

Also, Justice Ekwo declared the seats of the 16 lawmakers of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly vacant, having defected from the party on which platform they were elected to APC.

Meanwhile, the PDP had in another suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/ 1041/21 asked the court to declare the seats of the 16 lawmakers vacant having dumped the party for another.

Delivering judgment in the first suit, Justice Ekwo declared that having defected from the PDP, under which platform they came into power, the duo are deemed to have resigned from the office and, hence, no longer entitled to be called governor and deputy governor.

The judge held that it was constitutionally wrong for a candidate elected into an office on a platform of a political party to defect to another political while still holding office.

He said the votes gotten by Umahi and Igwe on March 9, 2019 were PDP votes and not APC.

Ekwo ordered INEC to receive names of candidates from the PDP to replace Umahi and Igwe.

“The votes in any election in Nigeria are to political parties, and not candidates,” the judge held.

He said that the governor and and his deputy failed to adequately defend the substantive issues concerning their defection.

“It would be constitutionally wrong for a person who was not sponsored by one political party, to defect and become a member of another political party before the expiration of the period he was elected,” he said.

He said that the “constitution does not treat the issue of defection lightly,” citing Section 221 of the 1999 Constitution.

According to him, the constitution is put in jeopardy when the will of the electorate who voted for a political party can be brazenly merchandised by candidates without consequence.

“The APC cannot govern Ebonyi State through the 3rd and 4th defendants (Umahi and Igwe) when it did not win the election that produced them,” he said.

He said Umahi and his deputy could not have claimed to be unaware of the “consequences of their act of defection.”

“Having defected to another party, they cannot hold onto the votes of the plaintiff (PDP) to remain in office,” he said.

Ekwo declared the continued stay in office by the duo as unconstitutional, saying it was in “breach of the provisions of Section 179 (2) (a) and (b) of the 1999 constitution.”

He ordered that the PDP “is entitled to submit to 1st defendant (INEC), the names of candidates to replace” Umahi and Igwe, “for the purposes of utilising the lawful votes cast in favour of the plaintiff (PDP)” at the March 9, 2019 Governorship Poll.

“An order is hereby made directing the 1st defendant (INEC) to immediately receive from the plaintiff, the names of its candidates to replace the 3rd and 4th defendants (Umahi and Igwe) for the purpose of utilising the lawful votes cast in favour of the plaintiff.

“Or in the alternative, the 1st defendant is hereby to hold a gubernatorial election for Ebonyi State in accordance with Section 177(c) of the Constitution (excluding the 3rd and 4th defendants who are disqualified from participating in the election by virtue of Section 182 (1)(b) of the Constitution).

“An order is hereby made directing the 1st defendant to immediately declare the persons nominated or to be nominated to it by the plaintiff as governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi State,” he ruled.

The judge, who made an order to injunction restraining INEC from recognising Umahi and Igwe as governor and deputy governor, also made an order of perpetual injunction restraining Umahi and Igwe forthwith from parading themselves as governor and deputy governor.

In a related development, Ekwo also ordered the lawmakers, who were 5th to 20th defendant in the suit, to vacate their seats in the state’s assembly, having defected from the party that brought them into office to another party.

The judge, who ordered the INEC to receive a fresh list of names of candidates from the PDP to fill the vacant seats, also directed that in the alternative, the electoral umpire should conduct a fresh election within 90 days to fill the vacancies occasioned by the 16 lawmakers’ defection.

He held that their seats “are now vacant by operation of Section 109 (1g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The judge also made an order the clerk of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly (4th defendant) to recover from the sacked lawmakers and pay into the account of the House of Assembly (3rd defendant) all salaries, emoluments, remunerations, allowances or any money or property given to or received by the lawmakers (5th to 20th defendants).

The affected lawmakers include: Odefa Odefa, Victor Chukwu, Kingsley Ikoro, Benjamin Jununu, Nkemka Okoro, Anthony Nwegede, Chinwe Nwachukwu and Onu Nwonye.

Others are Friday Neuhuo, Moses Odunwa, Chinedu Awo, Chinedu Onah, Chukwuma Igwe, Chukwu Lucas and Francis Nwifuru.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Orji Orji, has described the verdict as a “travesty of justice,” assuring that they would appeal the decision.

He faulted the court’s reliance on provisions of the Electoral Act dealing with pre-election and election matters.

“The Court of Appeal decision in Amaechi Vs INEC shows that today’s judgement was a clear case of an error in law and we must challenge it at the appellate court,” he said.

He said a court of coordinate jurisdiction had pronounced on the matter, saying that the constitution had no provision on defection for governors or had not made it an offence for a governor to defect from one party to another.

“We can also test the veracity of the Federal High Court decision today at the Court of Appeal.

“I want to tell Ebonyi people that there is no cause for alarm,” Orji said.

Moving on the strength of the court ruling, the PDP has nominated Hon. Iduma Igariwe as the new Governor of Ebonyi State, awaiting the endorsement of the INEC.

TNG reports the PDP also nominated Mr. Fred Udogwu as the new Deputy Governor of the State in line with a court ruling sacking Dave Umahi and his Deputy, Mr Eric Kelechi-Igwe.

National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu made the announcement on Tuesday at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja after earlier declining to reveal the names of the nominees.

“We are happy to inform you that for the position of Governor, the party after due consultation with stakeholders in Ebonyi State is putting forward Hon Iduma Igariwe as the new Governor.

“For the position of Deputy Governor, the party is putting forward Mr Fred Udogwu. Just to repeat, for Governor, Hon Iduma Igariwe; for Deputy Governor, Mr Fred Udogwu,” Ayu said.

UPDATE: PDP names Igariwe as new Governor of Ebonyi, Udogwu as Deputy

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Hon. Iduma Igariwe as the new Governor of Ebonyi State, awaiting the endorsement of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the PDP also nominated Mr.

Ayu said that the decision was made after due consultation with party stakeholders at the national and Ebonyi State chapter, in compliance to Monday’s judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which sacked Umahi and Igwe for defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He called on INEC to immediately withdraw the Certificates of Return from Umahi and Igwe and immediately issue same to Igariwe and Udogwu.

Ayu appreciated the court judgement and the court, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, for the judgement, describing it as a landmark judgement.

“First, we want to appreciate the Nigerian Judiciary for this landmark judgement. The ruling will bring order in the political space and check the issue of political rascality and stolen mandates. The judiciary is indeed the backbone of this democracy.

“We also want to single out Justice Ekwo for special recognition, particularly for being courageous and forthright in going for the substance of the law rather than the technicalities.

“And in line with the court order, PDP is immediately submitting to INEC the names of our candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state respectively.

“We are happy to inform you that for the position of Governor, the party after due consultation with stakeholders in Ebonyi State is putting forward Hon Iduma Igariwe as the new Governor.

“For the position of Deputy Governor, the party is putting forward Mr Fred Udogwu. Just to repeat, for Governor, Hon Iduma Igariwe; for Deputy Governor, Mr Fred Udogwu.

“Furthermore, we call on the Chief Judge of Ebonyi state to immediately swear them in as soon as INEC issues the Certificates of Return.

“And lastly, we call on INEC to immediately withdraw the Certificates of Return from the 17 lawmakers and commence the process of conducting bye-elections to replace them.”

Ayu noted that in the same ruling, the court sacked the 17 members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly who also defected with the governor and his deputy to the APC.

He recalled that Umahi, his deputy and the 17 lawmakers were elected on the PDP platform in 2015 and again in 2019, but defected to the APC on November 17, 2020, citing “injustice done to the South-East.”

“And determined to reclaim our stolen mandates, the PDP had sued them and joined both the APC and INEC in the suit.

“We had prayed the court to declare that by defecting from the PDP, on whose platform they were sponsored and elected, Umahi, Igwe and the 17 lawmakers had resigned or deemed to have resigned from office on the day of their defections.”

He said that the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, gave the PDP and democracy justice today.

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered Gov. Umahi to vacate office after his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Ekwo, in the judgment, also ordered Dr Eric Igwe to stop parading himself as deputy governor of the state.

Justice Ekwo declared that having defected from the PDP, under which platform they came into power, the duo are deemed to have resigned from the office and, hence, no longer entitled to be called governor and deputy governor.

The judge said it was constitutionally wrong for a candidate elected into an office on a platform of a political party to defect to another political while still holding office.

He said the votes gotten by Umahi and Igwe on March 9, 2019, were PDP votes and not for APC.

Umahi, in his reaction, said that he remains the govenor of the state and will not vacate office for anyone.

Umahi, who described the judgement as a ‘sham’, accused the Presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, of doing a hatchet job.

Senator Ayu revealed that the names of the nominees have been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, State chapter of the APC in Ebonyi has rejected the ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court.

In reaction to the court ruling, the State’s Publicity Secretary, Simbad Chidi described the sack by the court as a “disturbance to democracy” in the State.

“Today’s ruling in Abuja cannot overrule the State High Court that upheld his defection to APC already. The ruling is unacceptable,” Chidi said.

Convention Uncertainty: APC ‘mammy wagon’ govt has plunged Nigeria into 50yrs reverse gear – PDP Chairman, Ayu derides APC

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has said the uncertainty surrounding the APC convention has clearly exhibited why the party has driven Nigeria into 50years reverse gear.

Ayu who disclosed this while aaddressing the PDP women leaders from the 36 states of the country at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja on Tuesday, said a “party that cannot hold a convention, how can they lead the country.”

He said the APC has failed and the time had come for Nigerians to rally around the PDP to rescue the country from its present woes.

The PDP political heavy weight said: “After the meeting here, the PDP women leader will be going around the zones and possibly states to talk to the ordinary women, we don’t have time, we need to work hard and work faster because we want to take this party back to its winning ways.

“Nigerians have suffered under this clueless administration, they cannot even hold a party convention. A party that cannot hold a convention, how can they rule this country. They can’t and that is why the country is suffering because the party has no leadership.

Professor Stella Effah, the PDP woman leader, stated that the purpose of the gathering was to see how the women could put themselves together to restore hope.

“We have found ourselves in a terrible situation and people are calling on the PDP to come and rescue Nigeria. We as women must come out and play our part to rescue the country.

“We are not going to seat down in our comfort zone as it used to be, we must come out of our homes and zones and join forces to rebuild this country,” she said.

BREAKING: Obasanjo rejects request to return to PDP

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has rejected a request from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for him to return to the party.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Obasanjo as saying on Saturday that nothing can make him return back to the party.

He made this known when the National Chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu led four former governors and members of the party’s National Working Committee to visit him at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obasanjo emphasized that since the day he tore his PDP card, he stopped being a member of the party, adding that he also vowed not to be a member of any political party on that day.

He, however, said he will continue to be a statesman and always be there in the interest of the country at large for anybody who wants his advice.

“I’m no longer in partisan politics and there is nothing that can bring back. Anybody who wants my advice, I will always be there in the best interest of Nigeria.

“Whatever I do in my own life…because I became president on the platform of PDP, PDP will continue to be part of my life. Since the day I tore my PDP card, that was the day I ceased to be a member of PDP. That day I vowed not to be a member of any political party. “I will continue to be a statesman,” Obasanjo said.

In his response, Ayu told Obasanjo that “if you leave PDP, the blood of PDP will never leave you”.

He said the party would always require his fatherly advice towards governance in Nigeria.

The delegation to visit Obasanjo included PDP Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Peter Obi; former Governors, Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Donald Duke (Cross River).

The Deputy National Chairman of PDP (South), Taofeek Arapaja, and other party officials were also part of the entourage.
