PDP, Ize-Iyamu dispute over electioneering fund

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo State chapter and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, are bickering over funding ahead of the September 19 election.

PDP, on Thursday in Benin through its Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, accused APC and its candidate of desperation to win the poll at all costs and “raiding” a national institution, the NEXIM Bank, thereby bleeding it to the outrageous tune of $500million, to be converted to a loan and the burden of repayment would be placed on Edo people.

Ize-Iyamu, through his campaign organisation’s Director of Communication and Media, Prince John Mayaki, described himself as an unblemished candidate.

PDP said: “It is indeed ironic that while the ruling APC’s administration prides itself as an anti-corruption government, its Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was caught in a video collecting gratification, has been saddled with the responsibility of delivering another governor. A lizard cannot give birth to a crocodile, no matter the size.

“Let us be clear on one thing, APC has only one goal, and that goal is not fighting corruption, it is advancing its cause. This is another reason Edo people must reject the party and not allow it near the treasury.

“APC’s National Campaign Council, in collaboration with a director at NEXIM Bank, has perfected plans to deplete our common patrimony by drawing down $500million to prosecute the governorship election. This unholy arrangement is absurd, illegal, criminal and must be condemned.”

  • The Edo State we will see under Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as Governor.

The Edo State we will see under Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as Governor.

    By Michael Ovienmhada

I got a call from Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in early 2016. I had never met him but someone had given him my number. He said—- “My name is Osagie Ize-Iyamu. I would like you to come and work for my campaign. I have seen several of your articles and one thing that is not in doubt is that you love Nigeria. Well, Edo State is Nigeria. Here’s a chance to get your feet in the mud.”

I was bowled over, thankful that someone so esteemed had recognized my work and at the same time thrown a challenge. You challenge an Esan man to your peril. We do not back down. He sent me a ticket and I flew to Benin to join him at dinner. Before my trip, I had called up some of my friends in Benin to ask them questions. Who was this fellow? What does he stand for? What are his antecedents? Everyone I spoke with, friend or foe, had one thread running through their assessment of him—- a common refrain about him was——-That guy is a leader.

Our country has been in search of people who would lead from the front. Since the demise of the First Republic when the titans were vanquished in an unfortunate coup and subsequent counter coup, Nigeria has been in a state of suspended animation. Nothing has been spared the hurricane of military governance that blighted the moral, economic, political and ethical fabric of our country. However, Edo State was in some measure, spared the disaster that befell the nation in those years because we were fortunate to have Samuel Ogbemudia and Professor Ambrose Alli. Those two, helped to stop the general slide of underdevelopment that enveloped the rest of the country. In my discussions and interactions with Osagie leading up to the elections of 2016, what I saw was a man who was very single-minded and focused on the task ahead, calm, rarely agitated and always ready to listen.

These are attributes we need sorely in Nigeria but which, sadly, have been missing from the political landscape. As the 2020 elections are upon us, we need to take a cursory look at Edo State in the last four years. One thing is clear. Obaseki is no longer an unknown quantity. In 2016, he barely spoke a word. Oshiomhole spoke for him, interviewed for him, danced for him and sang for him. Obaseki just stood by Oshiomhole’s side, smiling, almost handsome, compared to his godfather. We all wondered, mouths wide open, our brains spinning.

How could a man stake so much for another human being? Oshiomhole at the time reminded me of John the Baptist. John, humbled that he would baptize Jesus, quickly became small in his own eyes and we all know that John was no small guy. A man who could confront Herod and challenge him that what he had done by taking his own brother’s wife could not have been a small guy by any measure. However, when he saw Jesus—— he declared without equivocation ——- he must increase and I must decrease. Even though I was working for Ize-Iyamu at the time, we could not but admire Oshiomhole’s total endorsement of Obaseki and his willingness to stake his own future on a man he barely knew. We then concluded that Oshiomhole must have known something we did not know.

After my candidate lost, I joined him for dinner one evening and I asked him what he was going to do next. His reply surprised me. “Well,” he said, “we have a governor who has been elected by the people and affirmed by the courts. I will work with him if he is willing to accept help. The guy does not really know the people and the people do not know him but we can help him.” I had tears in my eyes. It was comforting to hear those words coming from a man who had just lost an election to which he had devoted so much time and resources through the past year. Such is the metal from which Osagie Ize-Iyamu is forged and the Cloth from which his character is cut.

As Obaseki’s tenure began to unfold, we were at first hopeful that he would bring great development to the State when we saw construction equipment prowling the streets of Benin, fixing roads. I was impressed. The press coverage of his achievements were positive and everyone began to applaud his choice. It did not take long for him to bare his fangs and begin to growl at his benefactor. He rode roughshod over all the political blocs Oshiomhole had deployed to take him to Osadebey House. In Macbeth by Shakespeare, King Duncan famously expressed the lines—— there is no art to find the mind’s construction in the face —after he was informed that the Thane of Cawdor had been executed for his crimes of treason. I do not know Oshiomhole. I have never set eyes on him in close proximity.

All I know of him is from press coverage of him when he challenged the Obasanjo regime as he fought for the rights of workers. Everyone loved him and late Gani Fawehinmi begged him to run for president. The man went to Edo State to run for governor, and helped along by people like Osagie, he ascended the throne at Osadebey House. The relationship between Osagie and Oshiomhole got complicated to the point that Osagie felt he needed to get out of the way completely to allow Oshiomhole do his job, unhindered. He did.

When Oshiomhole completed two terms and nominated Godwin Obaseki to succeed him, one thing was clear. Oshiomhole was not going to let Godwin Obaseki go into the field against a tried and tested political giant like Osagie Ize-Iyamu in Benin by himself. He would be eaten for lunch. Oshiomhole had to deploy everything in his arsenal to fight for his nominee. For people like me who had a front seat in that epic battle, the day Obaseki began to spew venom at Oshiomhole, I called up friends in Benin to confirm if he had not been misquoted. He had to have been.

No way. Alas, it was true. Obaseki had gone to the trenches very quickly to wage war against his benefactor. I saw a screaming headline that read — it’s fight to finish. Obaseki would take no prisoners. He would stop at nothing until he not only tore down Oshiomhole but also put him behind bars after a hurriedly assembled Commission of Inquiry which implicated his benefactor in heinous crimes. I found that laughable because he was by the man’s side for seven years as trusted economic adviser. If he saw the wrongs at the time, why did he not expose it and resign?

Everything Obaseki has done to Oshiomhole speaks to his character as a human being. The reader may draw his or her own conclusions but this is my view when it comes to the nature of Nigerian politics. I do not like godfatherism. It may be beneficial in some cases but I think it is mostly bad for our democracy. If a man has enough confidence in himself and in his own ability to galvanize a followership, he may form his own political party and run for office. That way, he would not be beholden to any special interests.

If however, a man bows down to another man, be it in a shrine as in the case of Abia State, many years ago, or as in the case of Oyo State in Adedibu versus Ladoja, or in Ambode versus the Jagaban, it is my view that you must play by the rules of the godfather. The godfather never sleeps said JK Randle and nothing could be truer of the godfather in Nigerian politics. Adedibu killed several cows everyday in Ibadan to feed the hungry and pay house rent for the needy and school fees for children whose parents did not have jobs. The political machinery of the godfather has to be oiled for it to keep on spinning and producing the same way you as governor were produced. It is, I believe, a betrayal of the cause for a beneficiary of the largesse of the godfather to turn around and not only despise the godfather but seek to bite off his head. This is where I have always stood on the matter of godfathers.

I do not belong to any cult and I do not like cults. When people choose to join cults or covens and enter into covenants, they owe a duty to that institution. Let it be clear to my reader that I have no part in covens or covenants but let it also be clear that covens and cults have rules. Their overriding rule is not higher than the natural law—- you cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot approbate and reprobate. This is where I stand and I therefore draw the line. In the matter of Oshiomhole versus Obaseki, I have no doubt in my mind that Oshiomhole is the better man. I applaud him. I respect him. He may have suffered short term setbacks but history will judge him better in this matter. In the old days in Israel, there was famine in the land. There was no food to eat. Two women came to an agreement. Hear the complainant in her own words to the King as she requested that the matter between her and her neighbor be adjudicated. Hear her: this woman said to me, give thy son that we may eat him today and we will eat my son tomorrow. So, we boiled my son and did eat him: and I said unto her the next day, give thy son that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son. The King looked at them, bewildered. He had his own problems. He wanted to kill Elisha the prophet. Such my friends is the nature of covenants, even evil covenants. There is a price to pay.

Now that the battle lines are drawn between Godwin Obaseki and Osagie Ize-Iyamu, one thing is certain. Obaseki must run on his own record. He promised 200,000 jobs. Did he deliver? Let the electorate shine a light on his period in office and let them judge him. Does Edo deserve four more years of a man who spent the last three years fighting his benefactor? Does Edo deserve four more years of a man who has set the EFCC on all his political opponents? Does Edo deserve four more years of a man who has been revoking C of Os of political opponents and pulling down their property? Does Edo deserve four more years of a man who has not made new friends in four years as governor but has managed to create so many enemies? I asked this question a while ago of a friend— does Obaseki plan to live in Benin when his tenure comes to an end? My friend just chuckled. I chuckle too. Obaseki was given so much by his benefactor. The people of Edo State gave him so much support. It is my verdict that he has squandered his time in office by essentially scoring own goals.
We have a choice before us in a few months in Edo State.

Osagie is prepared with the Simple Agenda. He told me in one of several meetings we had that he wanted to be to Edo State, what Awo was to the Western region. He broke it down in practical terms. He believes that with prudent management of the resources of the State, we can have free and qualitative education and put a laptop in the hands of every child in Edo State. He believes that the State can go into partnership with BEDC instead of fighting them, to improve the state of electricity substantially in the State. He believes that every young man and woman who needs a job should be able to come to Edo State as a mini Nigeria to find one as he plans to embark on an agricultural revolution that would put 6 acres in the hands of every young farmer in Edo State, back them up with infrastructure and capital and have a Commodity Marketing Board ready to purchase the produce for exportation to the rest of Nigeria and outside.

He plans to introduce skills acquisition to the school curriculum such that every child upon graduation from Secondary school, would have two certificates. One can send him on a journey to University to pursue a dream. The other can help him to start his own business as a skilled entrepreneur with capital at the ready from a Small Business loan, prepared to create jobs and raise a family.
With these core beliefs, I do not think anyone should be in any doubt that the man whom everyone who has been privileged to interact with, calls — leader, would indeed lead when he gets the chance. Let us all, therefore, join hands to help propel Osagie Ize-Iyamu on his journey to Osadebey house and we must also be prepared to hold his legs to the fire for the next four years. Long live the people of Edo State and may our Oba be blessed.

[TNG Analysis] Edo 2020: It’s Wike Vs Ganduje as both gladiators mobilise Edolites for their parties

    By Emman Ovuakporie

The stage is finally set for the mother of all political battles as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC prepare to deliver candidates of their parties come September 19 Edo guber polls.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that both leading parties in Nigeria are leaving nothing to chance as they roll out their amoured cars and amoury to emerge victorious in the Edo guber polls.

The APC had on Thursday announced the Governor of Kano, the all powerful Abdullahi Ganduje to lead the onslaught against the PDP.

The governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma is his deputy.

The PDP sensing that it’s not going to be just another guber election announced the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike a political bulldozer in the south south geo-political zone to match Ganduje.

The APC election campaign council is loaded with both serving and former governors that are not pushovers.

Leading the pack of former governors is the immediate past chairman of the APC and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Bayelsa, now minister of state, Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, former governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan and other political heavy weights, serving lawmakers and former lawmakers in Edo State.

Leading the attack of the PDP is Wike who is reputed to be a good wrestler, supported by the Governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri who is a strong political mobiliser in the north east geo-political zone of the country.

The battle stage is set and the outcome of this battle will go a long way to shape the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

While the APC has carried out reconciliatory moves to douse the fire that almost consumed the party, courtesy of the face-off between governor Godwin Obaseki and his former godfather Oshiomhole, the party seems set to put all that behind it.

The major focus of APC now is how to reclaim the state and send a signal to political detractors that 2023 is already wrapped up.

The PDP too is not resting on its oars as it’s equally going to use Edo as a testing ground to assess 2023.

The party has vowed that never in history again will the PDP flag leave the Denis Osadebey Government House in Benin City.

In the guber race are two front liners, Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who had met in 2016 on the battle ground and Obaseki triumphed.

The permutations as to who will occupy Edo government house by November 11th still remains sketchy as in politics particularly in this part of the world, 24hours is enough to turn the tables.

Edo 2020: INEC displays nomination forms of Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu, others

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday in Edo State displayed the forms of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Godwin Obaseki, and those of 13 others at its annex office, located at the former state secretariat of the PDP on Sapele Road in Benin.

On INEC’s notice board at the annex office, Obaseki filled West African School Leaving Certificate, 1973 and Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons.), 1979, as his qualifications. He did not present his Higher School Certificate (HSC).

The governorship candidate of the PDP will slug it out on September 19 with the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and others in what is popularly referred to as a rematch, to elect a new governor from November 12.

Ize-Iyamu has LLB from the University of Benin.

In 2016, Ize-Iyamu was the governorship candidate of the PDP, while Obaseki was the standard-bearer of the APC.

He had the backing of the then Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who later became the National Chairman of the governing party, before last week’s dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) by APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), headed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The other governorship candidates are Obhafuoso Paul, Action Alliance (AA); Akhigbe Ehiabhi, African Democratic Congress (ADC); Ibio Emmanuel, African Democratic Party (ADP); Lucky Idehen, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Igbineweka Osamuede, Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Amos Areloegbe, All Peoples Party (APP); and Osifo Isaiah, Labour Party (LP).

Others are Agolebun Tracy, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); Stevie Ozono, National Rescue Movement (NRM); Felix Obayangbon, Social Democratic Party (SDP); Jones Osagiobare, Young Progressive Party (YPP); and Akhalamhe Amiemenoghena, Zenith abour Party (ZLP).

[TNG Analysis] Edo 2020: Obaseki Vs Ize-Iyamu, who wears the crown?

    By Emman Ovuakporie

The uproar and confusion that surrounded the emergence of Governor Godwin Obaseki as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the scheduled guber election for September in Edo State is enough for him to defeat Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu if politics were mathematical.

But no politics is not based on mere mathematics because surprises are part and parcel of politics.

After a long battle with his godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, Obaseki finally pitched tent with the PDP to contest the Edo guber polls.

Oshiomhole ensured he was disqualified from partaking in APC’s guber primary.

The confusion eventually swallowed Oshiomhole who was suspended by the APC and eventually sacked as its chairman on Thursday.
On the other hand, Ize-Iyamu had to contend with many legal battles to finally get the APC ticket.

The issue of not been a member of the party was one court issue and this was surmounted and his election ratified by APC as the authentic candidate of the party.

All said and done but the question on the lips of Edolites is who going to occupy Denis Osadebey Government House for the next four years.

In the three senatorial districts of the State both contestants have a commanding presence.

Ize-Iyamu is a full time politician while until 2016 Obaseki was a technocrat who helped then governor Oshiomhole to manage the coffers of the state.

As at today, Obaseki has tasted the bitter pills of politics and is now a full blown politician with long horns.

A PEEP AT THIER STANDINGS IN THE THREE SENATORIAL DISTRICTS

    Edo Central Senatorial District:

Edo Central is the most marginalised district in the State. For eight years Oshiomhole left them in the wilderness without any remarkable appointment both at the Federal or State level.

It has the least voters population in the state but the people are very vibrant and had constantly supported the PDP.
They paid dearly for this and Esan people remained unrepentant as they continued to vote for PDP.

Obaseki is said to have promised the Essn nation that he would handover to the Edo Central after his second term.

This promise is enough to ginger them to massively vote for Obaseki hoping that he won’t behave like other regular politicians.

Ize-Iyamu too is popular in the senatorial district but can’t take the risk of making such a promise but a vigorous campaign can turn the table in his favor.

But the pastor has to do a lot of footwork to make a remarkable impact in Esan land.

    Edo North Senatorial District:

This is the domain of Ize-Iyamu’s godfather the great Oshiomhole.

Under normal circumstances this District ought to be the footstool of Ize-Iyamu but no, Obaseki’s deputy, Comrade Phillip Shaibu is also from the zone and he will match Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu fire for fire.

    Edo South Senatorial District:

This zone of the state has the highest voters population capable of turning the tables at any given election in the state

This zone is the real battle ground that will determine the outcome of the guber election in the state.

Coincidentally, both contestants are from this zone that is a major determinant of the election results.

Obaseki heavily relying on the incumbency factor may just coast to victory and return to Denis Osadebey Government House.

But as it was stated here earlier, politics is not mathematics that you can readily get a calculated answer.

Ize-Iyamu is said to have a well greased executive in all the wards of Edo South because he had gone through the terrain while contesting as a PDP candidate against Obaseki.

The exco is still very much alive and this could be a dangerous signal to the Obaseki camp.

Both contestants may have to assert enough energy on this zone of the state to win the guber election.

In this zone, Obaseki has an edge because of the massive support he enjoys from the critical stakeholders in the PDP.

Ize-Iyamu has a good followership too in the determining zone of the state because of his grassroots

BREAKING: APC right to grant Ize-Iyamu waiver, Court rules

The All Progressives Congress(APC) did no wrong in granting its Edo Governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, waiver to contest its primary, Edo High Court has ruled.

The presiding judge of Edo High Court 6, Benin, Justice Emmanuel Ahamioje, dismissed the suit for lacking merit and he described the matter as an internal affair of APC.

He affirmed Ize-Iyamu as a duly registered member of APC in his ward, saying he was qualified for the waiver.

The suit was filed by a factional Deputy Chairman of Edo APC, Kenneth Asekomhe, who was expelled for anti-party activities by NWC of the party and three stalwarts of APC Benjamin Oghumu, Mathew Ogbebor and Unweni Nosa.

They are all loyalists of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Defendants in the suit APC; its suspended National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu insisted the court had no jurisdiction to meddle in the internal affairs of the party, in line with the Constitution of APC.

The presiding judge earlier refused to grant the exparte application by the allies of Obaseki, seeking to restrain APC from recognising the 2016 governorship candidate of the PDP (Ize-Iyamu), who defected to the party in December last year, as an aspirant on APC’s platform.

I don’t need any godfather to win Edo governorship poll, Ize-Iyamu boasts

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Edo State 2020 Governorship Election, said he does not need a godfather to win the election.

Ize-Iyamu stated this on Monday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels TV.

Ize-Iyamu, who emerged winner of the APC primary, said he won the election without Oshiomhole’s presence in Edo and will do it again.

When asked if he had the blessings of the suspended National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and what was his relationship with him.

He said, “The only godfather I have is God. I am sure that is obvious to you. Adams Oshiomhole is the national chairman of the party and I have immense respect for him. And there are other leaders. Adams Oshiomhole was not in Edo today and yet I won the 18 local governments. We have mutual respect for each other and I will not disrespect him because anybody wants to insult him.

“All I want to let you know is that I am well grounded in Edo. People know me; I have lived there all my life and they believe in me. And they want somebody that understands their problems and is able to solve them. I am sincere, focused and I have a clear-cut agenda of what I want to do.

“That is why I am standing and I believe on the basis that I will win the election overwhelmingly. I don’t need any godfather to win.”

  • Thank you for electing me – Ize-Iyamu

Thank you for electing me – Ize-Iyamu

    By Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

First and foremost, I give thanks to God Almighty for the successful conduct of the primaries and the safety of all our members, including officials of all agencies, who took part across the state.

I thank the leader of our party, the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari for his fatherly disposition and democratic stance that set the stage for a free and transparent contestation devoid of institutional bias, favoritism, or imposition of any kind.

I am also grateful to the national leadership of the APC for the courage displayed and the commitment to democratic ideals that have distinguished our party and made it appealing to millions of Nigerians across the country. The bold insistence on adherence to the constitution of the party, even amid immense pressure, was a great show of leadership that served as a reminder to all that the APC is a party founded on sacred values central to its growth and survival.

My grateful thanks also go to the Edo State Traditional Council led by Our great King, Omo’ N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpo, The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II for the fatherly counsel and important interventions. I wish to reiterate my deep respect and undying loyalty to the institution.

To the election committee chaired by His Excellency, the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma for organizing a primary election that allowed the members of our party in the state to elect a candidate in a responsible, safe, fair, and transparent process, I convey my deepest gratitude.

From the start, with the adoption of the direct mode of primary, our party showed its recognition of the peculiarity of the times we are in and its commitment to complying with all regulations and guidelines in place to ensure that our people are protected from danger, specifically the coronavirus disease.

Today, because of the hard work of the committee, the cooperation of INEC, observers, and all security agencies, that desire got full expression as members of our party, whose conduct was admirable and responsible, participated in a primary that will form a point of reference to all on how to practice democracy without compromising safety procedures in the fight against a viral disease.

I am grateful to everyone for their support, most especially my fellow aspirants who shunned the politics of bitter opposition and displayed the level of maturity and sportsmanship never before seen in the history of this country.

Against an incumbent government that tested the resolve and unity of our party using morally bankrupt tactics without any regard for the rule of law, we were able to prevail because Dr. Pius Odubu, Hon. Osaro Obazee, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, General Charles Airhavbere (rtd), Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, Hon. Saturday Uwuilekwe and Professor Ebegue Amadasun showed great leadership and fought a good fight premised on the shared understanding that we are all on the same side, confronting and seeking to undo the many failures of an administration that betrayed our people and the values of our party.

I am very grateful to them and I look forward to working with them as we return to the streets and homes of our people, to restore and strengthen their hope and faith in the party, the All Progressives Congress, and return Edo state back on the path of development and growth.

Today’s victory is not for me alone. It is a victory for democracy, for the rule of law, and for our party, the All Progressives Congress. To everyone who played a part in making it possible; to my family, my campaign team, support groups at home and in the diaspora, members of our party, and all Edo people, I say thank you.

Receiving your endorsement and nomination to represent our party in the Governorship election is one of the greatest honors of my life. I find myself joyous but as well aware of the faith reposed in me by you all. Most importantly, I feel the weight of that trust and the great need not to disappoint all of you who deemed me worthy of the honor to fly the banner of our great party and be your representative at the polls.

The agenda remains SIMPLE in the literal sense of those alphabets as I renew my pledge to devote myself to moving this state forward by bringing new ways and innovative methods in: Security and Social Welfare, Infrastructural Development and Urban Renewal, Manpower Development and Training, Public-Private Partnership, Leadership by Example, and Employment Creation and Social Empowerment Scheme.

This time, we must get it right. And the work to make this a reality must continue with revitalized passion and zeal. Our victory today is only the beginning. We must now all come together, renew our loyalty to the party, and march with sturdy strides on this new path that beckons.

Fellow party members, thank you once again for your confidence in me and support. I assure you, and the people of our state, that you will not be disappointed.

Edo guber: Buhari’s aide congratulates Ize-Iyamu on clinching APC ticket

The Presidency has congratulated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu over his emergence as flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for the Edo Governorship election slated for September 19.

Ize-Iyamu won the direct primary conducted by the party across various wards in the state with a huge margin.

In a congratulatory message, a Senior Technical Assistant on Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Louis Odion, described Ize-Iyamu’s victory as a demonstration of his capacity to unite the APC in Edo behind a common purpose and expressed confidence of victory at the polls in September.

“With his victory, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has demonstrated a capacity to unite APC in Edo behind a common purpose. Doubtless, he will lead APC to victory in the governorship polls on September 19,” he said.
