A nonagenarian simply identified as Pa Olasupo has begged the police to keep his son in a correctional centre as long as necessary after purportedly stabbing a neighbour with a knife.

Oladimeji Supo, 37, was ordered to be remanded following his arraignment on Wednesday for assault and theft before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State.

Pa Olasupo, on the court premises, said his son was very tempestuous and given to violence.

Enough is enough. I have gone to so many places to rescue him anytime he ran into trouble. The Police should keep him in the cell as long they want.”

COVID-19: Three men jailed for breaching quarantine orders

Three men were sentenced to imprisonment on Monday for violating Hong Kong’s compulsory quarantine measures.

A 31-year-old man was given a three-month custodial sentence for giving regulatory officials a false residential address.

Meanwhile a 37-year-old and a 41-year-old violated the restrictions by leaving their places of residence.

Both were intercepted at border-control points between Hong Kong and mainland China.

The men received respectively 10 days and six weeks’ imprisonment.

The government said in a statement that they welcomed the judgement and that the sentences sent a clear message to the community that breaching quarantine orders is a criminal offence.

Also the government would not tolerate the breach of quarantine.

Hong Kong continues to see an escalation in cases.

The government issued a new measure to make 14-day quarantine compulsory for anyone entering the city from overseas or from mainland China.

There are 641 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong, a number that has tripled over a two-week period as overseas residents rushed to return from Europe, as well from Hubei province.

Hubei province is where the outbreak originated and where the number of infections has run into the thousands.

Those in quarantine must wear a QR-coded trackable wristband and remain in their places of residence.

But there are currently more than 32,000 people undergoing such measures and criticisms include questions about the effectiveness of the bands and about the government’s ability to keep track of such numbers.

In response to a second wave of infections in Hong Kong the government has limited gatherings to a maximum of four people and shut down public areas, such as sports grounds.

Messi hire Lawyers to get Ronaldinho out of jail

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has reportedly hired four lawyers to bail his football idol and former teammate, Ronaldinho Gaucho who is currently in jail in Paraguay.

According to reports, Messi is going to pay all of Ronaldinho’s debts and will pay €4M to lawyers to get Ronaldinho out of Jail for a fake passport lawsuit against him.

The pair played together briefly at Barca when Messi was still coming through as a youngster, while Ronaldinho was perhaps the best footballer on the planet at that time.

Former Brazil and ex-FC Barcelona player Ronaldinho Gaucho is adapting quickly to life in a Paraguayan jail, the head of the facility told Reuters on Monday.

The former Paris St-Germain (PSG) forward’s lawyers are however hopeful he may soon be released into house arrest while the investigation continues.

“In broad terms he is doing very well,” prison warden Blas Vera told Reuters in a telephone interview. “I see he is in good spirits, just like you see him on television, always smiling.”

Vera said Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto Assis, who were arrested on Friday for using a false Paraguayan passport, would present their case to a judge on Tuesday.

Their lawyer Sergio Queiroz told Reuters they had asked a court to release them into house arrest and offered guarantees they were not a flight risk.

Vera said the 39-year old former AC Milan player and his brother had beds, a television and a fan in their cell at the prison on the outskirts of the capital Asuncion.

The brothers use a communal bathroom and have the right to use the outdoor patio on a regular basis.

The pair’s lawyers have provided them with meals and they have not eaten the food offered by the jail.

The maximum security facility has around 195 detainees, including politicians and police officers accused of corruption as well as major drug traffickers.

The more dangerous prisoners are housed in a different wing to Ronaldinho, Vera said, adding that he was working to ensure the pair’s stay is “as comfortable as possible”.

Carlos Gamarra, the former captain of Paraguay’s national team who also played for several Brazilian clubs, visited Ronaldinho with a group of ex-players in jail on Sunday.

Vera said others who were at the regular Sunday visiting time befriended the Brazilian.

“There was also a group of boys and girls and he welcomed them, gave them hugs and chatted with them,” he said.

Ronaldinho, who was last year named a tourist ambassador by Brazil’s far-right government, arrived in Paraguay on Wednesday, invited to the landlocked South American nation by a local casino owner.

Although he last played professionally in 2015, Ronaldinho, who also represented Brazilian clubs Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo and Fluminense, is still hugely popular with global football fans and advertisers.

He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and the UEFA Champions League with FC Barcelona in 2006.

Ronaldinho was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

  • Ronaldinho must remain in Paraguayan jail – Judge

Former Brazilian international Ronaldinho Gaucho was ordered to remain in jail in Paraguay on Saturday after a judge ruled him a flight risk.

The ex-FC Barcelona forward was arrested on Friday for attempting to enter Paraguay with a false passport two days earlier.

He spent Friday night in a police cell along with his brother and business manager Roberto Assis.

The pair asked to be released into house arrest but that was rejected by the judge, who also dismissed Assis’s claims to have a heart problem because he showed no proof.

Judge Clara Ruiz Diaz said their alleged offence was a “serious one against the interests of the Paraguayan state”.

“Because the pair posed a flight risk they must remain in custody,’’ she added.

Under Paraguayan law, officials now have six months to complete their investigation.

But Ronaldinho’s lawyers, who called the decision “incredible,” are expected to present an appeal in the coming days.

“He (Ronaldinho) doesn’t understand what’s going on,” Tarek Tuma told reporters.

Saturday’s courtroom drama came after an astonishing four days that began on Wednesday when the duo attempted to enter Paraguay with doctored passports.

They were detained but a prosecutor who believed they were tricked into taking the fake documents recommended they be released after receiving an alternative punishment such as paying a fine to charity.

A judge, though, rejected that idea late on Friday and shortly afterwards the pair were arrested.

A police official told local media the pair had been placed in a cell with one other inmate.

They were given soap, cushions and repellent to protect against mosquitoes.

Although workers at the facility took selfies with the famous detainee, officials said the Brazilians did not receive any preferential treatment.

Paraguayan television showed the two men arriving in court in handcuffs at around noon local time on Saturday.

The brothers were invited to Paraguay by a local casino owner and had arrived on Wednesday to take part in a football clinic for children and a book launch.

Although he last played professionally in 2015, Ronaldinho, who also represented Brazilian clubs Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo and Fluminense, is still hugely popular with global football fans for his skills and showmanship.

The 39-year-old was named FIFA world player of the year in 2004 and 2005.

He won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and the Champions League with FC Barcelona in 2006.

60-year-old Nigerian serial rapist pastor jailed 34 years in UK

A Nigerian pastor, Michael Oluronbi, has been jailed for 34 years in the United Kingdom for defiling children and sexual assault.

A Birmingham Crown Court handed down the sentence after he was found guilty of the offence.

Oluronbi, 60 was convicted of raping some children for a period of 20 years. He was said to have committed the act during religious bathing rituals he claimed would wash their sins away and cleanse them from evil spirits.

His wife Juliana Oluronbi, who arranged abortions after four girls became pregnant, was jailed for 11 years.

Both were found guilty by jurors at Birmingham Crown Court after a trial in January, BBC reports.

The trial heard Oluronbi had victims stand naked in a bowl of water to undergo what he called “spiritual bathing”.

He claimed it would cleanse their souls and protect them from the devil.

But Philip Bradley QC, prosecuting, told the trial Oluronbi’s true purpose “was to serve his sexual gratification”.

In some cases, he added, the offending “progressed to repeated rapes, on many occasions leading to unwanted pregnancies and terminations”.

Oluronbi was arrested at Birmingham Airport last May, while trying to leave the country for Nigeria.

The defendant, of Orchard Drive, Longbridge, told police “the devil made me do it” after his arrest.

Judge Sarah Buckingham, sentencing, said Oluronbi’s crimes “must be one of the worst cases of sexual abuse of multiple children to come before the courts”.

“You did this because you are an arrogant, selfish and vain man,” she said.

In statements read to the court one of the victims, now in her thirties, said Oluronbi had “taken my innocence, my youth and my purity as a child”.

Another said: “I used to eat soap until I was physically sick so I could get rid of this man’s mark on me inside and out”.

A third woman said she no longer attended church.

“I don’t think I can ever place my faith in religion again. I trusted him”, she said, “because he was like God on earth.”

Nigerian email fraud syndicate jailed in UK [Full Identities Attached]

Some Nigerians, part of a criminal gang, have been convicted and jailed for a combined total of 18 years and 2 months after gaining access to as many as 2,000 BT customers’ accounts in an elaborate phone and email divert scam.

The convicts who were busted after a complex investigation which spanned more than two years, were arraigned in court by Hampshire Constabulary’s Economic Crime Unit for the crime which was committed between May 2014 and July 2016.

The Economic Crime Unit uncovered £358,345 in losses, but the full extent of the fraud is expected to be much higher. Portsmouth Crown Court heard the gang spent the money on Rolex watches, high-value jewellery, TVs and designer clothes.

PSI Stephen Murden, from the Economic Crime Unit said: “With the assistance of data from PayPal our investigation was able to link fraudulent orders and deliveries to some of the defendants’ addresses.

“We obtained evidence from BT customers, retailers and from phones and computers seized during the initial investigation. Analysis of the devices seized together with the other evidence obtained enabled us to bring the case to court.

“We determined that PayPal saw a loss of £205,000, and customers and merchants lost £87,000. However, we believe the true extent of the fraud was not restricted to PayPal or the addresses identified and the overall gain to some of the defendants was likely to be much higher than the amounts identified.

“The information we gathered proved that there was sufficient evidence to bring all eight defendants to court for charges of conspiracy in relation to this sophisticated scam. I am pleased that the hard work that went into this lengthy, complex investigation resulted in all eight individuals pleading guilty.”

Upon being arrested during a raid, the gang’s leader 36-year-old Festus Emosivwe chewed a USB data stick, making it impossible to recover any data.

Judge Timothy Mousley QC who presided over the case said; “The impact on your victims cannot be underestimated. Many had seriously heightened levels of anxiety, stress and fear after finding out their accounts had been hacked.

“Some expressed horror and fury at being scammed by you.

“Many were retired people who feared they’d be unable to get by financially. Each of you is responsible for inflicting that misery upon them.”

    The gang members who pleaded guilty to all the charges, were sentenced as follows;

*Festus Emosivwe, 36, of Newcome Road, Portsmouth, was jailed for 44 months for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

*Chloe Maylott, 27, of Purbrook Way, Havant, was jailed for 16 months for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

*Charles Onwu, 31, of Wells Close, Portsmouth, was jailed for 43 months for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation

*Victor Ngo, 30, of Lowestoft Road, Portsmouth, was jailed for 43 months for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation and conspiracy to convert criminal property.

*Pinelopi Chatzikonstantinou, 30, formerly of Highlands Road, Southsea, was fined £1,000 and a £100 victim surcharge for conspiracy to convert criminal property.
Adel Qadir, 35, of Woofferton Road, Portsmouth, was jailed for 29 months for conspiracy to commit

    *fraud by false representation.

*Molade Fasuyi, 37, of Methuen Road, Southsea, was jailed for two years for committing fraud by false representation.

*Olukayode Adepoju, 40, of London Road, Portsmouth, was jailed for 19 months for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, in his judgment, said that the defendant was found guilty as charged.

Oladiran, who said that the convict must spend the jail term at Agodi Correctional Centre, however, gave him an option of N20,000 fine.

According to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Sunday Ogunremi, the convict, on Dec. 26, at about 11.30 am., allegedly stole some iron rods, valued at N20,000 and some Christmas decoration materials, valued N5,000.
