Tiger kills worker at Jerusalem’s Biblical Zoo

Zoo officials on Friday confirmed that a tiger killed a zookeeper at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem.

According to a statement quoted by Israeli media, the animal attacked the 26-year-old keeper as he was preparing the enclosure of the tiger for a special tour group.

The man suffered severe injuries and died shortly after being taken to hospital.

The zoo said the tiger broke out of its cage for reasons that remain unclear and entered a secure area where the keeper was working.

At no point were the visitors in danger, the statement added.

The zoo was closed immediately following the incident and will remain shut until Sunday, according to a post on its official Facebook page.

Founded in 1928, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo features animals mentioned in the Bible, including bears, lions, wolves, antelope, snakes and vultures.

It also includes non-biblical species such as giraffes and tigers, and is involved in conservation efforts for ancient and endangered animals.

War On Jerusalem: Israel threatens to retaliate against Iran

Benjamin Netanyahu the prime Minister of Israel has issued out strong warnings to the enemies of the country.

The prime minister said this in a statement on Saturday evening in reaction to Iran’s drone attacks towards Israel on Saturday evening.

In recent weeks, Israel and its allies such as the US and UK have been preparing for a direct attack by Iran.

However, Netanyahu warned, “Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively,” he said.

“The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

“We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries.

“We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.

“Citizens of Israel, I know that you also are level-headed. I call on you to follow the directives of IDF Home Front Command.

“Together we will stand and with God’s help – together we will overcome all of our enemies.”

Jerusalem sees large anti-govt protest for fourth night

Thousands of Israelis protested for the fourth day in a row against the government and in favour of an agreement to release the hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli media reported that the demonstrators gathered with torches in their hands near the parliament building in Jerusalem on Tuesday evening.

    They also demanded new elections.

In a speech, the mother of a kidnapped man accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of standing in the way of a hostage deal.

Clashes between police officers and demonstrators later broke out.

According to police, several people tried to march to Netanyahu’s private home and break through security barriers.

One person succeeded in doing so, but no one managed to reach the residence.

Israeli media reported that the security forces had violently dispersed some demonstrators, including the daughter-in-law of a man who had been abducted to the Gaza Strip.

Large anti-government demonstrations have been held in Jerusalem since Sunday, and protestors have also set up 100 tents in front of the parliament as part of the multi-day protest campaign.

On Saturday, people also demonstrated against Netanyahu’s leadership in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and other cities.

Relatives of the hostages accuse him of having no serious interest in securing the release of Israelis being held by Hamas inside the Gaza strip.

Israel’s conservative head of government rejects the criticism, and recently insisted he feels obliged to bring all hostages home.

A new election, on the other hand, would paralyse negotiations on the release of further hostages and “bring about an end to the war before the goals have been achieved,” according to Netanyahu.

The U.S., Qatar, and Egypt have been mediating between Israel and Hamas for weeks in order to achieve a new ceasefire and an exchange of hostages kidnapped from Israel for Palestinian prisoners.

Israel estimates that almost 100 hostages held by the Islamist organisation are still alive.

Australia debunks making U-turn by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

Following reports that Australia has made a U-turn on a previous government’s recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the country, on Monday, denied that it has reversed a decision, made under former Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and there has been no change in policy.

The denial came from Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, hours after the UK`s publication

It was reported that Australia`s Department of Foreign Affairs dropped its stance recognizing West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

A spokesperson for Wong explained that the government “continues to consider the final status of Jerusalem as a matter to be resolved as part of any peace negotiations.

“But ‘the former government decided to recognize West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel’ and no decision to change that has been made by the government,” Wong said via the spokesperson.

The Labor Party had vowed to reverse Canberra`s move in 2018 under then-prime minister, Scott Morrison, of the Liberal Party of Australia to recognize the western part of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital if elected.

Morrison had sought to win the Liberal Party another term in office in the May 2022 national elections but was defeated by the opposing Labor Party, led by Anthony Albanese, the country`s prime minister since late May.

Wong, as an opposition senator in 2018, had said that the centre-left Labor Party “does not support unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and in government would reverse this decision.”

“Australia remains a longstanding friend and strong supporter of Israel,” Wong said in the statement on Monday.

A spokesperson for Morrison said a decision to reverse the recognition would be “disappointing,”.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Labor lawmaker, Jason Clare, the country`s education minister, said no decision on a potential reversal had been made because the cabinet had not yet considered the issue.

Both Israelis and Palestinians claim Jerusalem as their capital. Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the international community. For decades the international community maintained that the city`s status should be negotiated between Israel and the Palestinians.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: It will happen suddenly

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: It will happen suddenly

    By Oke Chinye

    Read: Psalm 126:1-6

    Meditation verse:

“Restore our fortunes, Lord, like the streams in the Negev” (Ps 126:4, NLT).

The Negev is a dry arid land surrounded by mountains, located in the Southern region of Jerusalem and Judea. It takes its name from the Hebrew word ‘Neghev’ which means dry. For most of the year, it remains a dry riverbed (wadi) with no water at all. However, something miraculous happens in the springtime. During the rainy season, the wadi collects water from various areas. Suddenly and swiftly, the dry riverbed turns into dangerous torrents of water within a short while of torrential rain. For a day or two, the dry wadi becomes torrents of flash floods, its dry riverbed overflowing with flood waters into the desert.

In the journey of your life, you may encounter a Negev experience every now and then, spiritual dryness, financial crisis or marital barrenness. Just like the streams of the Negev, God can turn the tides suddenly in your favour. He can swiftly bring back your captivity and restore your fortunes. God can furnish a table for you in the wilderness. And when He does, you will be like those who dream. 2 Kings 3:17-18 says, “For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord”.

And this is God’s word for you today. Suddenly, that which you have been asking of the Lord, will be before you. You will not know how it came to be. It will happen suddenly. God will restore your fortunes, like the streams in the Negev.

  • Kukah hits hard again: Nigerian elites rush to Saudi, Jerusalem for forgiveness after looting treasury dry

Kukah hits hard again: Nigerian elites rush to Saudi, Jerusalem for forgiveness after looting treasury dry

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Mathew Kukah has again taken a swipe at Nigerian leaders accusing them of rushing to ‘holy land’ for forgiveness after looting the nation’s resources dry.

Recall that the outspoken cleric in his Christmas Day Message slammed the President Muhammadu Buhari’s admnistration of insecurity and nepotism.

In Tuesday’s sermon at the funeral mass for Archbishop Peter Yariyock Jatau, the pioneer indigenous Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral, Kaduna, Rev. Kukah spoke against corruption in government.

He described Nigeria as a “wasteland” and “a nation at war with itself”.

Referring to the reaction to his Christmas message, Rev. Kukah said he would not keep quiet when things are going wrong.

In the sermon titled: ‘A nation in search of its soul, the Bishop said: “The duty and responsibility of government is the security and welfare of its citizens. The Priest is a watchman, one whose duty is to watch over the city and to raise his voice whenever he sights danger. He calls on those who lead to remain faithful to their duties.”

“Today, our dear nation is like the proverbial farmer searching for his black goat. He has to do it with a sense of urgency because darkness is setting in as the sun quickly recedes. Our nation has become one huge waste land, huge debris of the deceit, lies, treachery, double dealing and duplicity.

“Nigerian politics has become a huge trojan horse, a hoax, a hall of guile and dissimulation. The levels of frustration are rising by the day and we can see all this in the rise in domestic violence and intercommunal conflicts. A combination of all these has turned us unto a nation at war with itself.

“Nigerians complain that the country is full of Churches and Mosques and they cannot find the values of these religions in everyday life. We sin at home by stealing the nation’s resources but we seek repentance and forgiveness in Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem in the guise of lesser or higher pilgrimages.

“Our duty is to reject the notion of corrupt governments that somehow, the Lord has not provided for every society. When they call for us to tighten our belts because there is recession, that oil prices have fallen, that there are problems with balance of payments and so on.

“The Priest at the duty post must say what he can see, namely, that when those who preside over the affairs issue a bad check, it must be resisted, that when they pretend that the society faces bankruptcy, or that there are insufficient funds, we must reject these and insist on the equitable use of the resources for the common good of all.

“We make money from abandoning projects duly paid for by governments which have adopted Contractocracy as a governance mechanism. We are allowing others to use our money to develop their own infrastructure. Our elites all assembled in Dubai for Christmas and also to welcome the new year.

“As virtue recedes into the sunset in our country, there is an urgent need for us to pause and take stock of what is required to save our country,” Kukah said.

The Cleric who took time to speak about the achievements to the late Archbishop Jatau, said the late clergyman took over the mantle of leadership, raised the bar and by sheer diplomatic efficiency and sought to forge and strengthen a viable relationship between Church and State.

“So, tonight, our prayers for him is similar to that issued by Cardinal Ratzinger at the funeral of the late Pope John Paul 11 when he said: Yes, bless us, Holy Father. We entrust your dear soul to the Mother of God, your Mother, who guided you each day and who will guide you now to the eternal glory of her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Like Stephen, may the gates of heaven stand erect till you have passed through.”

  • Saudi football players visit Jerusalem Muslim holy site

Saudi football players visit Jerusalem Muslim holy site

Players from Saudi Arabia’s national football team travelled to Jerusalem’s Old City on Monday to pray at one of Islam’s holiest sites.

The players visited the Noble Sanctuary, a compound that houses the Golden Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest shrine in Islam.

“This is the most beautiful day in my life,” said Yasser Al-Mishal, president of the Saudi Football Federation.

“Really, it’s hard to express my feelings. I thank God that I could visit al-Aqsa mosque and pray inside the mosque.”

The Dome of the Rock is built where Prophet Mohammad is said to have ascended to heaven, and it encompasses the Foundation Stone, a rock holy to Muslims, Jews and Christians.

Jordan has custodianship of the holy sites.

The area is one of the most sensitive sites in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It is revered by Jews as Temple Mount, the site of two biblical Jewish temples.

The site is situated in a part of Jerusalem captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed in a move that has not been recognised internationally.

The Saudi players are due to face the Palestinian national team in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

  • Brazil follows U.S. lead, to move its embassy to Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Brazil’s President-elect Jair Bolsonaro told him that it was a matter of “when, not if” he moves his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

The far-right Bolsonaro, who takes office on Tuesday and is hosting Netanyahu and the leaders of other countries for his inauguration, has said he would like to follow the lead of U.S. President Donald Trump and move the embassy.

But he has come under intense pressure from Brazil’s powerful agriculture sector not to do so, as it could hurt Brazilian exports to Arab nations.

Such a move by Bolsonaro would be a sharp shift in Brazilian foreign policy, which has traditionally backed a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Arab League had told Bolsonaro that moving the embassy to Jerusalem would be a setback for relations with Arab countries, according to a letter seen by Reuters earlier in December.

“Bolsonaro told me it was “when, not if” he moves the embassy to Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said on Sunday during a meeting with leaders of Brazil’s Jewish community in Rio de Janeiro.

“We attach enormous importance to Brazil, and Brazil in the context of Latin America,” he added. “This heralds a historic change.”

Netanyahu, who met with Bolsonaro on Friday, said that the Brazilian accepted his invitation to visit Israel, a trip that is likely to take place in March.

Netanyahu is the first Israeli prime minister to visit Brazil.

After he met the Israeli leader, Bolsonaro said that “we need good allies, good friends, good brothers, like Benjamin Netanyahu.”

  • Recognising Jerusalem as capital of Israel will threaten Australia’s relationship with Indonesia – Ex PM

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Tuesday warned his successor that recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would threaten Australia’s relationship with Indonesia.
Following a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at a global conference, Turnbull advised Prime Minister Scott Morrison who deposed him as leader of the governing Liberal Party in August that Widodo expressed “serious concern” about the plan to move Australia’s Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“There is no question, were that move to occur, it would be met with a very negative reaction in Indonesia.
“This is after all the largest Muslim-majority country in the world,” Turnbull told reporters on Tuesday.
Morrison declared he was “open” to the idea of moving the embassy in the lead-up to the by-election in Turnbull’s former seat of Wentworth.
More than 12 per cent of voters in Wentworth are Jewish and would be more likely to support the move.
If the move was to go ahead, Australia would become the second country in the world to move its embassy to Jerusalem and recognize the city as Israel’s capital after the U.S. did so.
During a 40 minute meeting with Widodo, Turnbull said the Indonesian President “expressed to me, as he has done to Prime Minister Morrison, the very serious concern held in Indonesia about the prospect of the Australian embassy in Israel being moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”
With Indonesians headed to the polls for a general election in 2019 Widodo has been working to secure the support of the nation’s conservative Islamic majority who oppose recognising Jerusalem as an Israeli city.
Widodo’s objection to Morrison’s announcement raised doubt over whether a free trade agreement between Indonesia and Australia, which took eight years to negotiate, would go ahead but Turnbull dismissed that notion.
“I have no reason to believe it won’t.
“Of course, it then has to be ratified through the Indonesian parliamentary system in the normal way,” he said.

  • Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu to address supporters today from Jerusalem – Lawyer

Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Saturday said the Biafra agitator is alive and will address his supporters today direct from Jerusalem, Israel.
Ejiofor, who had previously accused the Nigerian Army of abducting Kanu during the September 2017 invasion of his residence in Umuahia, said the video showing him praying in Israel 13 months after he disappeared was authentic.
Ejiofor, in a statement, said, “This morning (yesterday), I received a direct confirmation from my client, hearing once from him after 13 months in captivity.
I am very delighted therefore, to use this singular opportunity to announce to the world that my client is the very person seen in the pictures /video. That I can confirm authoritatively.
Furthermore, the shocking tale of how he made it alive once again will be made public in his scheduled world press broadcast to be beamed live within the next 24 hours.
The world will now hear from the horse’s mouth, the gory accounts of what happened in my client’s home on the 14th day of September 2017, only tomorrow (today).”
Meanwhile, a former Aviation Minister, Fani-Kayode while also affirming the authenticity of Kanu’s recent video/pictures in Jerusalem said on Twitter that he “just received a call from my brother Nnamdi Kanu.
I am delighted that he is alive and well. I commend his strength and courage even as I marvel at the loyalty, resilience and commitment of his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and IPOB. We have agreed to work together to VOTE Buhari out.”
