I will carefully weigh options on my next political home – Expelled lawmaker, Jibrin

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has reacted to his expulsion from the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

The party had on Saturday, through its Kano state Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, announced Jibrin’s suspension over what it described as anti- party activities and failure to meet financial obligations.

Dungurawa also threatened that the party would take the expelled lawmaker to court if he fails to settle his outstanding dues.

But responding in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, Jibrin asked the party to send him the outstanding dues invoice.

He said, “It came as a surprise and a rude shock, my sudden expulsion from the NNPP. I strongly believe the contents of the interview I granted few days ago in English and Hausa should not warrant such heavy penalty because it is in tandem with the core principles of our party and movement which allows for dissenting views overtly or covertly.

“I expected the party to pick lessons from the interview. For the purpose of emphasis, I stand by all the statements I made in the interviews.

“No invitation was extended to me to defend or explain myself by any organ of the party and in the process, neglecting the very important principle of fair hearing, due process and justice that the NNPP cry out loud and demand from others.

“Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial. Perhaps, if the appropriate processes were followed, the need for such harsh decision to force me out of a party and family I love so dearly may not be necessary.

“While, I would have loved to stay in the NNPP and continue my service to our people and country despite differences on some issues (which I will address elaborately in due course to avoid people being mislead), the party has made and announced a decision. I am therefore obliged to accept the decision of the party in good faith and without grudges.

“But for the respect I have for the party, its members and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void as it failed to follow due process or coming from a factional group of the party and test it in court. I will rather wish the party well and go in peace. I beg the party to allow me also go in peace.

“On the issue of non-payment of my dues, I am appealing to the party that there is no need to go to court as I have never refused to pay my dues. I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay. I have always advocated for harmonious relationships in Kano and Nigeria, so I am appealing to NNPP to stay on the part of decorum without personal attacks or throwing abuses and insults as we part ways. For me, relationship will continue irrespective of party affiliation,” Jibrin added.

He also thanked the party for the support he enjoyed during his stay, while calling on his supporters to join him in his next political journey to be unveiled soon.

“I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who chose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges against them and I look forward to keeping a peaceful and harmonious relationship with them both at the local, state and national levels.”

“Finally, I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. SO HELP ME GOD,” he concluded.

Everything is a possibility – Jibrin on Kwankwaso joining APC

Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the House of Representatives, has said Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the opposition party, is open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, who has met President Bola Tinubu twice within few weeks, said this on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

The lawmaker who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency said some APC members from Kano are not comfortable with Kwankwaso.

However, he added that talks on Kwankwaso’s political direction were still ongoing.

“If you say Kwankwaso is moving into APC, or we are moving to APC, even within the APC in Kano, you have a lot of people that wouldn’t want him to come. Perhaps, those who want to be governor, or those who don’t want to be governor.”

“I’ve tried to ensure that, in the interest of Kano and Nigeria, there is some sort of stability in our polity — It is quite a complex process.

“But everyone knows that I’ve always advocated, even right from the beginning of the government, for us to work with a government of national unity.

“As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” he said.

When Ayu will resign as PDP chairman – BoT chair, Jibrin reveals

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT Chairman, Walid Jibrin, has said the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu will only resign after President candidate, Atiku Abubakar is declared winner in 2023.

Jibrin noted that it was unfair to have a presidential candidate and National Chairman of the party from the north.

There has been a crisis in the party over its current leadership set up, as all the key offices of the main opposition party are being held by Northerners.

The party’s presidential candidate, the National Chairman, the board of trustees Chairman, and other relevant positions are occupied by members from the North.

“To tell the truth, it will not be fair for the Presidential candidate to be from the North and the party Chairman to be from the North and the BoT Chairman also from the North,” Jibrin said on Channels Television.

He added, “but look at what is there, I have a tenure of five years and I’ve spent four and a half years already. Only six months remaining for me but I know I can go any time. Definitely, I can sacrifice my position.

“If an election has been held and Atiku has been declared as president in 2023, why would he [Ayu] not leave. Whether he likes it or not, he must leave.

“For me, I’m too eager to leave. What I’m saying is that we should wait until this committee set up to reconcile Wike and Atiku has finished their work, then we’ll now go ahead to address the other complaints. Asking him to resign now will not answer the question.”

  • 2023: ‘Let his hands be shaking’, Tinubu remain APC’s choice – Jibrin

2023: ‘Let his hands be shaking’, Tinubu remain APC’s choice – Jibrin

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a former member of the house of representatives representing Bebeji/Kiru federal constituency has replied to critics of the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Bola Tinubu over a trending video showing his hands shaking.

Jibrin said Tinubu, a 2023 presidential candidate remains their choice despite his alleged health issues.

He urged those criticizing Tinubu to mobilize their own presidential candidate.

Asiwaju’s critics have urged him to dash the dream of becoming Nigeria’s President and focus on his health to pave way for younger people to take over leadership of the country.

However, Jibrin, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, described the criticism as an attack, saying they are prepared for it.

He said, “Let his hands be shaking, he remains our choice. You cannot suffocate our democratic space.

“Go and mobilise support for your aspirants whose hands are not shaking. Aren’t you the majority? let’s meet at the ballot. We are resolute and our support is total. Where Asiwaju goes, we go!

“We must be prepared for more and more unfair and senseless attacks. It is not a criticism but enmity. There will always be that small group spreading hate.

“As with several presidents, some of these attacks will continue through the various elections and Tinubu’s tenure as president”.

How Tinubu will emerge as Nigeria’s president in 2023 – Jibrin

Former Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has named former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria.

According to him, Tinubu will surely succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that the All Progressives Congress, APC’s national leader is the best candidate from the party come 2023.

Jibrin said that just as Muhammadu Buhari was fielded and won the 2015 presidential election, so shall Tinubu beat all oppositions to claim the party’s sole ticket and win the election.

The former Lagos Governor and Senator had a few weeks ago made his intention to run the presidential election public. Tinubu declared his interest after a closed door meeting with President Buhari at the State House.

“In 2015, PMB was ahead of all the APC Presidential aspirants. He was fielded and he won! In 2023 race, Alh Bola Ahmed Tinubu is ahead, qualified, competent and CLEARLY has the best chance,” Jibrin tweeted.

“He will be APC candidate. He will win the Presidential race and get the job done, God grace.”

  • House Committee Leadership: No rancour between Gbajabiamila, Jibrin – Reps

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Media and Publicity, on Friday, said that the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila has fulfilled his promise to opposition parties in terms of committee positions.
A member of the Committee, Yusuf Gaji, who briefed reporters also said there is no rancour between the Director-General of the Gbajabiamila/Wase Campaign organisation, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin.
He said: “As regards to insinuations going on that Mr Speaker has failed to keep up to his promises to other political parties before election, of giving them 60 slots, I don’t think it is true.
“Some people will want to capitalise on the announcement made by Mr Speaker to take advantage of their own intentions.
“Mr Speaker has given 21 committees to the Peoples Democratic Party members, four other committees to other minority parties and 30 deputy chairmen of committees.
“If Mr Speaker has promised to allocate 60 positions to minority parties in the National Assembly, and he gave 21 and 30, making 51; plus four of APGA, AA and ADC, it means he has given 58. Fifty-eight and 60, they are almost the same.”
He also explained the reason Jibrin’s name was missing on the committees list, adding that there is no misunderstanding between the Speaker and Jibrin.
His words: “Regarding the Director-General of his Campaign, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, there is nothing between Hon Jibrin and Mr Speaker.
“They are working together, perhaps Mr Jibrin is going to be considered for something bigger than a committee in the National Assembly.
“So, these are the information that we felt are necessary for us to give the press so that they will go a long way in reducing the media criticisms against the actions by Mr Speaker.”

  • FG speaks on Buhari being cloned with Jibrin from Sudan,Chad

The Federal Government has reacted to those claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari was cloned.

It described such talk as idiotic and that such people peddling the rumour were not worthy of getting government reaction.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said these in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

His response followed questions that the Federal Government should clear the air on the allegation.

Recall that there were insinuations that the President was cloned and that the man who is presiding over the affairs of the country is one Jibrin/Jibril from either Sudan or Chad.

The rumour followed the miraculous recovery of the President when he was sick about two years ago.

Mohammed said, “It is idiotic to say the President is cloned. I don’t see any serious government responding to that.

“So, the same Jibrin that was cloned from Sudan or Chad is in Chad now? Isn’t that stupid?

“They even said he is from Chad. Yet, the same President is in Chad as we speak. The same Jibrin is remembering what the President did while in Petroleum Trust Fund and he is also remembering what he did when he was head of state between 1983 and 1985.

“All the ministers do not know who is before them when they attend the Federal Executive Council meeting? The President remembers memos he had seen or heard about in 1985 and we say he is cloned.

“So, Jibril from Chad or Sudan will now remember all of these? It is too silly for the government to respond to this. It must be ignored.”

  • JUST IN: Reps lift suspension on Jibrin

The House of Representatives on Tuesday lifted the suspension placed on the former Chairman of its Committee on Appropriation, Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (Kano-APC).

This followed a letter of apology sent to the House by Jibrin, which was presented by the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, at plenary.

Recall that the lawmaker was suspended in 2016 for 180 legislative days for allegedly exposing “budget padding” scandal in the legislative arm of government.

Presenting the letter, Dogara said that the suspended legislator had met all the conditions necessary for him to resume his duties.

He, therefore, said that the lawmaker was free to resume his legislative duties whenever he wished.

  • Jibrin’s suspension: S’Court orders lawyer to pay N2m for filing frivolous appeal

The Supreme Court has fined a lawyer, Mr. Tolu Babaleye, N2m for filing a frivolous appeal to delay the hearing of a suit filed by a former Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin,‎ to challenge his suspension for 180 legislative days since September 28, 2016.

A five-man panel of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, during the proceedings that held on Wednesday, delivered a unanimous bench judgment shortly after parties to the appeal adopted their papers in the course of the proceedings.

Describing the appeal as “vexatious and frivolous”, Justice Ejembi Eko, who delivered the lead judgment of the court, ordered Babaleye to pay each of the four respondents to the appeal, including Jibrin, the sum of N500,000.

Apart from Jibrin, the other respondents ordered to be paid N500,000 each were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara; the House of Representatives and the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

The court ordered that the total fine amounting to N2m must be personally paid by the lawyer.

Babaleye had filed the appeal on behalf of two members of the House of Representatives – Nicholas Ossai and Orker-Jev Yisa – asking to be allowed to be joined as defendants to Jibrin’s case which is still pending before the Federal High Court.

Ossai was the Chairman of House Committee on Ethics, which recommended Jibrin’s suspension and Yisa was the House member who moved the motion for the suspension of the Kano lawmaker.

Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, where Jibrin’s substantive suit is still pending, had on April 13, 2017, dismissed the lawmakers’ joinder application, describing them as “strangers” with no interest to protect in the proceedings.

The lawmakers had, through their lawyer, Babaleye, appealed to the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had also in its judgment delivered on December 17, 2017, dismissed their case.

The two legislators had further appealed to the Supreme Court.

At the hearing of the appeal before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the appellants’ lawyer, Babaleye, faced a torrent of questions from the members of the CJN-led panel, expressing their concerns about the frivolity of the appeal.

In response, Babaleye maintained that the appeal was necessary and filed to enable the appellants “to clear their names”.

  • Court strikes out Jibrin’s suit to compel House of Reps to lift suspension

The quest by the embattled lawmaker, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, to return to the House of Representatives after been suspended by his colleagues for going against the rules of the parliament has suffered a great set back as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned a suit instituted by him to push for his return indefinitely.

The suit filed by Hon. Jibrin to challenge his suspension from the House of Representatives was rejected by the Federal High Court due to the existence of an appeal on the same matter which is pending at the Supreme Court.

Counsel to Hon Jibrin Chief Femi Falana, SAN, had argued that the High Court should disregard the appeal pending at the Supreme Court over the issue of joinder of some members of the House to the action.

However, counsel to the House of Representatives drew the attention of the court to the pendency of the appeal before the Supreme Court and urged the Court not to proceed with the case as according to him, Chief Falana was trying to set the lower court in collusion with the apex court of the land.

In his ruling, Justice John Tsoho said that however the manner the information about the appeal before the Supreme Court gets to him, he will not continue with the case until the matter is dispensed with by the apex court.

It would be recalled that Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin had, in 2017, commenced Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/812/2016 to challenge his suspension from the House.

Similarly, some individuals who identified themselves as his constituents, also commenced separate a action with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/796/ 2016 seeking nullification of his suspension.

When both matters came up on the 10th of January this year, the Federal High Court maintained that in the case of the suit filed by Hon. Jibrin, it would respect the Supreme Court and await its decision on the joinder to the suit of Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai and Hon. Orker – Jev Emmanuel Yisa, who said their characters were impugned by accusations made by Hon. Jibrin.

On the related suit filed by three members of Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, the court struck out the suit for lacking in substance and want of diligent prosecution.
