    Jigawa Govt suspends durbar during Eid-el-Kabir celebration

    Jigawa State Government has announced the suspension of traditional durbar in the five Emirate Councils of the state during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

    Alhaji Adamu AbdulKadir, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), stated this in a statement signed by Isma’il Ibrahim, the Dpokesperson, Office of the SSG, on Sunday in Dutse.

    Abdulkadir said the state government has also directed for the decentralisation of Eid prayers to neighbourhood mosques as well as limitations of all indoor gatherings.

    He said the directive followed a circular from the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, which put six sates and the FCT on red alert, as part of preventive measures against a third wave of the pandemic.

    The measure, he said, was to ensure safe Sallah celebrations in the state.

    While wishing the Muslim faithful happy Eid celebrations, Abdulkadir urged them to be mindful of the possibility for wider spread of the virus during large gatherings.

    The Police in Jigawa said suspected armed robbers have shot dead an army officer, Maj. M.S. Isma’il and wounded a soldier, Pte. Harisu Aliyu.

    Police spokesman in the state, ASP Lawan Shiisu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday in Dutse, said that the shooting occurred on the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway on July 4.

    According to Shiisu, the robbers attacked the officer and soldier, while they were travelling from Maiduguri to Kaduna.

    “On July 4, at about 2100hrs, the police at Fanisau Division received information that the Maiduguri to Kano expressway was blocked by armed robbers at Dindibis Village, Dutse Local Government Area.

    “Police patrol team moved to the scene which is about 40m after Dindibis village, but before the team got there, the robbers had escaped into the bush.

    “Pte. Aliyu was wounded on his neck and shoulder while Maj. Isma’il was shot dead.

    “Both were moving from Maiduguri to Kaduna in a vehicle with registration number BWR105BX. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects,’’ Shiisu said.

    Police arrest 9 suspects for armed robbery in Jigawa

    The police command in Jigawa has arrested nine armed robbery suspects believed to have been terrorising residents in Gumel Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

    ASP Shiisu Lawan, spokesperson for the command, who made this known in Dutse on Sunday, said the suspects were arrested on June 30.

    Lawan said four of the suspects(names withheld), were arrested after attacking one Naja’atu, a housewife, with cutlass on June 15, about 2:40 a.m.

    “On June 15, at 8 a.m., one Nazifi Abdulhamid of plantation Gagarawa Tasha, reported the incident to the police that on same date about 2:40 a.m, the four suspects trespassed into his compound and attacked them with sticks and cutlass.

    “His wife, Naja,atu Lawan aged 23, raised alarm and as a result they (suspects) used a cutlass on her right leg where she sustained fracture.

    “The scene was visited by police where a stick and a belt were recovered and the victim was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital where she was admitted,” he said.

    He said on the same day, two persons, Murtala Haruna and Kabiru Ibrahim, all of the same address, reported to the police that their cellphones were snatched by the suspects.

    Lawan added that two weeks later, the four suspects were arrested in connection with the offence, adding that after being interrogated, they confessed to the crime.

    According to him, five others were arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen property.

    Lawan said that three cellphones and the sum of N20,250 were recovered from the suspects.
    The spokesperson said that the cases were still being investigated.

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the 27 Chairmanship seats in Saturday’s Jigawa local government councils poll.

    The results were announced by the presiding officers of each of the local government on Sunday.

    Abdullahi Suleiman of APC was declared winner in Buji with 48,034 votes, while Sani Muktar of APC won in Gagarawa with 23,725 votes.

    Musa Shuaibu of APC won in Guri with 27,878 votes, while Umar Baffa of APC won in Birniwa with 36,397 votes.

    Mudassir Musa of APC won in Garki with 30,893 votes, while Adamu Sarki of APC won in Miga with 26,323 votes.

    Uzairu Nadabo of APC won in Maigatari with 36,943 votes, Baffa Yahaya of APC won in Taura with 26, 716 votes.

    Mubarak Ahmed of APC was declared winner in Yankwashi with 23,185 votes, while Sale Ahmed of APC won in Sule TanKarKar with 36,141 votes.

    Idris Mati of APC was declared winner in Kaugama with 33,803 votes, while Sale Ahmed of APC won in Gwiwa with 22,892 votes.

    In Kazaure, Muhammad Muktar of APC was declared winner with 22,454 votes, while Usaini Umar of APC won in Malam Madori with 25,359 votes.

    In Hadejia Abdulkadir Umar was declared winner with 28,798 votes, while Shehu Sule won in Ringim with 47,084 votes.

    In Roni, Tukur Muhammad was declared winner with 36,086 votes, while Zaharadeen Abubakar of APC won in Gwaram with 76,651 votes.

    In Dutse, Bala Usman of APC with 66,049 votes, while Nasiru Ahmed of APC won in Kiyawa with 33,874 votes.

    In Jahun Ado Mai Unguwa of APC won with 45,545 votes, whil in Kirikasamma, Isa Adamu of APC with 27,306 votes.

    In Gumel, Rufai Sanusi of APC won with 18,226 votes, while in Babura, while Lawan Ismaila of APC won with 45,560 votes.

    In Kafin Hausa, Muhammad Yahaya of APC won with 42,871 votes, while Muhammed Sani of APC won in Auyo with 22,924 votes and in Birnin kudu, Magaji Yusif of APC won with 45,742 votes.

    Jigawa Gov appoints 8 permanent secretaries

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has approved the appointment of eight permanent secretaries, the State Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Hussaini Kila, said on Thursday.

    This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Ismail Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer, Office of the HoS and issued to newsmen in Dutse.

    According to Kila, the appointment of the new permanent secretaries is purely on merit, competence, personal integrity and seniority.

    The head of service gave the names of the new appointees as Safiya Muhammad, Abdullahi Hassan, Lawan Bello, Uwani Jafaru, Dr. Rabi’u Miko, Abdulrahman Mato, Nuhu Haruna and Dr. Haruna Usman.

    He noted that all the appointments were with immediate effect.

    Kila added that the appointees would soon be assigned their respective portfolios.

    Jigawa residents beat suspected robber to death

    The police in Jigawa on Thursday confirmed that some angry residents beat a 40-year-old suspected robber, Hassan Sale, to death in the state.

    Spokesman of the command, ASP Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Dutse.

    Adam said that the incident occurred at the Chandan village in Birninkudu Local Government Area (LGA), when the suspect attempted to break into a provision store on Sunday.

    He said:”the deceased was caught red-handed by the owner of the shop, who raised an alarm that attracted the residents to the scene.

    “On June 13, at about 10.30a.m. information reached us that one Hassan sale, aged 40, who resides in Kyaurawa village went to Chandan village in Birninkudu LGA and started breaking a provision shop belonging to one Garba Sama’ila.

    ”The suspect was beaten to a state of coma and was rushed to the Birninkudu General Hospital for medical attention but died while receiving treatment on June 14,’’ Adam said.

    He said that investigation was ongoing to trace and arrest those responsible for the act.

    Jigawa gets substantive Chief Judge

    The Acting Governor of Jigawa, Malam Umar Namadi has sworn-in Justice Umar Sadiq as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.

    Hajiya Zainab Baba-Santali, the Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Justice, said in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse that this followed the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

    Baba-Santali noted that Gov. Mohammed Badaru accepted the recommendation, and was confirmed by the state House of Assembly in line with Section 271(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

    “Honorable Justice Umar M. Sadiq is the fourth Chief Judge of Jigawa State who succeeded the immediate past Chief Judge, late Honourable Justice Aminu Ringim, who retired on November 25, 2020.

    “Justice Umar Sadiq is a graduate of law from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and was called to the bar in 1989.

    “He began his career as a Magistrate in the defunct Kano State, and he was appointed as Judge of the High Court of Jigawa State in 2000. He is married with children.’’

    Baba-Santali said that the oath of office was administered to the new chief judge by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Musa Adamu.

    She said that the ceremony was witnessed by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, represented by the Chairman House Committee on Justice and Judiciary, Mr Abubakar Sadiq-Jallo.

    Others she said were the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Adamu Fanini, judicial officers, and lawyers among others.

    The PRO quoted the acting governor as saying the “new chief judge is capable and equal to the task.’’

    Jigawa Govt to demarcate 95km of grazing reserves, cattle routes

    The Jigawa Farmers and Herdsmen Boardhas concluded plans to carve out 95km of grazing reserves as part of measures to tackle farmers/herders incessant clashes in the state.

    Malam Zubairu Sulaiman, the Public Relations Officer of the Board, who made this known on Friday in Dutse, said the reserves will be carved out in 10 local government areas.

    These councils, he said, are Babura, Birninkudu, Gagarawa, Gumel, Gwaram, Buji, Maigatari, Suletankarkar, Kafinhausa and Kirikasamma

    He said that the state government has released over N7 million for the exercise.

    Miko called on leaders of the farmers, herders and traditional rulers in the affected areas to cooperate with the board, to ensure a successful execution of the demarcation.

    On Jan. 1, 2008, former governor Sule Lamido, established 400 grazing reserves, 50 of which have already been gazetted.

    The effort to establish and demarcate grazing reserves in Jigawa was part of a multi-dimensional approach adopted by Lamido early in the day to address the perennial problem of clashes between pastoralists and farmers.

    Similarly, in its effort to encourage and enhance the pastoralists, the Jigawa launched the 2014 to 2015 animals vaccination exercise in which government vaccinated 3,438,590 cattle against diseases in the past seven and-half-years 2007 to 2014.

    Police arrest 2 suspected armed robbers in Jigawa

    The Police in Jigawa have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Gumel Local Government Area of the state.

    ASP Zubairu Aminuddeen, the Public Relations Officer of the command, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday.

    Aminuddeen said the suspects were arrested on April 10, after they broke into the residence of Haruna Mohammed of Masama village where they attacked his 35-year-old son.

    He alledged that the suspects shot the victim with a Dane gun and attacked him with cutlass.

    The spokesman added that as a result of the attack, the victim sustained various degrees of injury.

    The public relations officer said that the suspects robbed the victim of N1 million.

    Aminuddeen said that the police, on receiving the information rushed to the scene and took the victim to Gumel General Hospital for medical attention.

    “Two suspects aged 30 and 25 all of Masama village were identified and arrested in connection with the offence,” he said.

    He added that efforts were on to arrest one of the suspects now at large who was also identified by the victim.

    Aminuddeen said investigation into the case was still ongoing after which the suspects would be charged to court.

    APC wins Jigawa by-election

    The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammad Adamu, has emerged the winner of Saturday’s Kafinhausa State Constituency by-election in Jigawa.

    Adamu polled 14,924 votes to beat other candidates in the election. The poll took place in the 120 polling units in the area.

    Prof. Ahmed Kutama, the Returning Officer, declared the result at the collation centre in Kafinhausa Local Government Area.

    He said the APC candidate defeated his closest rival, Garba Muhammad Tambale, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 8,612 votes.

    The electoral officer declared Adamu the winner, having secured the highest number of votes.

    The third contestant was Usman Isyako of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) who secured 72 votes.
