    Jigawa Assembly passes N698bn 2025 budget

    The Jigawa State House of Assembly, on Monday, passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N698 billion.

    The passage followed the adoption of the report of the House Standing Committee on Appropriation at plenary in Dutse.

    Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Ibrahim Hamza, (APC-Malam Madori), said the budget comprised  N90.73 billion personnel cost, other recurrent expenditure of N70.17 billion  and N537.39 billion for capital projects.

    The Speaker, Mr Haruna Aliyu, said the  appropriation bill, if assented to by the governor, would enable the government to execute people-oriented projects for the overall development of the state.

    Recall that Gov. Umar Namadi had on Dec. 9, 2024, presented a budget of N698.3 billion to the Assembly for consideration.

    Mother, 2 children escape death in Jigawa

    The Police in Jigawa State has disclosed a mother and her two children escaped death on Monday when a vehicle rammed into their living room in Dutse.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state , DSP Lawan Shiisu, said in a statement in Dutse that the incident occurred at about 12 midnight.

    Shiisu said the incident occurred at Elpies Street, after one Muhammad Galadima, 32; and Abdullahi Abubakar, 41; rammed into the building in a suspected case of drunk driving.

    According to him, the Elpies Street Mobile Quarters in Dutse received information about the incident.at about 12.30am.

    The report stated that the duo, driving one Toyota Corolla with registration number NSR 120 BC, rammed into the living room of the residential building.

    “As a result, both the vehicle and the entire house were engulfed in flames, affecting three other neighbouring houses that were burnt to ashes,” Shiisu said.

    He said upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital.

    The spokesperson added that the fire was extinguished by the combined efforts of fire fighters and some good Samaritans.

    Shiisu said that both suspects and the vehicle had been taken into custody for further investigation, after which they would be charged to court.

    The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi has lost his 24-year-old son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, to the cold arms of death, coming barely 24 hours after Namadi lost his mother, Maryam Namadi.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Governor Namadi’s mother died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25 while he was on a working visit in China at the time of her death.

    Namadi announced the death of his 24-year-old son in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Hamisu Mohammed Gumel.

    “To Allah belongs that which He has taken, and to Him belongs that which He has given, and everything has an appointed time with Him.

    “With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, His Excellency Mallam Umar Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, announces the passing of yet another member of his family; his dear son Abdulwahab Umar Namadi.

    “He departed this world this afternoon (Thursday, December 26th, 2024) as a result of a ghastly motor accident along Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road.

    “The burial rite is taking place at this moment in Kafin Hausa town, in accordance with Islamic traditions. A 24 year old, late Abdulwahab is survived by his parents and many siblings,” the statement reads.

    Jigawa Governor bereaved as mother dies on Christmas Day

    Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has announced the passing of his mother, Maryam Namadi on Wednesday.

    This is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Gumel, on Wednesday in Dutse.

    Maryam died in the early hours of Wednesday, December 25, and was buried according to the Islamic rites in Kafinhausa town at about 4:00 p.m.

    The funeral prayer was attended by many residents of the state, who condoled with the governor over the death.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Tijjani Abdullahi, sympathised with Namadi over the passing of his mother.

    Abdullahi in a statement by the Spokesman of the command, Shiisu Adam, expressed deep condolences to the governor.

    Namadi was on a working visit in China at the time of her death.

    Top Nigerian politicians storm Jigawa for Umar Namadi’s daughter wedding

    The governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi on Friday gave out his daughter, Salma’s hand in marriage to her lover, Abba, son of Suleiman Musa, a former deputy speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, who represented the Guri constituency in the state.

    The celebration, which held in the heart of the state  saw the attendance of many political bigwigs, including governors, ministers, lawmakers and other top functionaries.

    Mansur Muktar, a former Minister of Finance, stood as the groom’s trustee, while the Imam of Kafin-Hausa local government area, Abdulwahab Hassan, stood as the bride’s trustee.

    Dignitaries who graced the event included six incumbent governors, namely Abba Yusuf of Kano State; Yusuf Idris of Kebbi; Mai Mala Buni of Yobe; Dauda Lawal of Zamfara; Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe and Dikko Radda of Katsina State.

    Other top functionaries at the event were the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bugudu as well as former governors of Jigawa and Katsina states – Ali Sa’ad, Sule Lamido, Saminu Turaki and Aminu Masari. Also in attendance were the representatives of Muhammad Badaru, the Minister of Defence.

    Three first class emirs in the state from Hadejia, Kazaure, and Dutse attended the event, while the emirs of Ringim and Gumel sent their representatives.

    Jigawa govt uncovers 6,348 ghost workers

    The Jigawa State government says it has uncovered 6,348 ghost workers in its staff verification exercise in the State.

    Mr Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Infomation, Youths, Sports and Culture, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse.

    He said the report of the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise, showed that 6,348 ghost workers had been detected and saved over N314 monthly.

    Musa said the State Excutive Council had studied the report and approved establishment of the Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

    This, he said, would fasttrack completion of the data capture and validation exercise, as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS).

    “The exercise resulted in detection of 6,348 ghost workers and significantly saved cost with an average of N314,657,342.06 per month and N3,775,888,809.72 per annum,” he said.

    Musa said the council approved contract for the rehabilitation of roads damaged by floods, including Andaza – Gadewa – Aujara; Unguwar Mani – Korayel – Rorau and Tsamiya – Yalwan Damai – Litinin Tudu in Roni, Gwiwa and Birnin Kudu Local Government Areas of the state.

    He said the council also approved N254.8 million for the completion of community-based integration into the state’s Social Register Data Management Information System.

    “This is in line with the Umar Namadi administration’s effort to expand social security coverage to communities left out in the social register,” he said.

    The commissioner said the SEC further endorsed the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee for the Retrieval of Farmlands Allocation across the state.

    “This is in line with the committee’s implementation roadmap recommended for promoting peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders across the state”.

    Jigawa govt earmarks N1.2bn to pay 2025 exam fees

    The Jigawa State government says it has earmarked N1.2 billion for the payment of the 2025 external and internal examination fees.

    Hassan Nayaya, Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Educational Research Agency (JERA), told journalists in Dutse on Thursday, that the amount has been appropriated in the proposed 2025 budget.

    He said that N1.3 billion has been allocated to the agency in the proposed estimate, comprising N1.2 billion for payment of external and internal examinations, and N52 million take off grant to fasttrack its upgrade.

    “We also have capital projects as we were upgraded from a department to the status of an agency by this administration under the Ministry of Higher Education.

    “The sum of N52 million is appropriated as a take off grant, including procurement of working materials and official car for the executive secretary.

    “This will also include other works in schools like environmental conservation, tree planting campaigns, school monitoring and teacher evaluation. This is what the agency will be doing,” he said.

    Nayaya said the agency would procure 20 set of computers for digitalisation programme, and establish conservation clubs in senior secondary schools to encourage tree planting among students.

    “It is part of the mandate of the agency, we are going to create conservation clubs in all our senior schools, where each student will plant a tree and nurse it to maturity, to check desertification and erosion in the state”.

    Namadi signs Jigawa electricity commission law

    Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has signed the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission bill into law.

    This is contained in a statement by Hamisu Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, on Monday in Dutse.

    He said the governor assented to the bill passed by the state House of Assembly, as part of effort to enhance electricity regulation and access.

    According to him, the mandate of the commission include overseeing electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution and supply.

    This, he said, aimed at enhancing electricity access for residents of the state, while fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment via public private partnerships to improve energy infrastructure and service delivery.

    Mohammed said the law would support development of diverse electricity solutions including grid, mini grid and off grid systems, utilising both renewable and non renewable energy sources to meet the state’s growing energy demands.

    “This law is a vital step towards sustainable development and economic growth in Jigawa state. By strengthening electricity regulation and promoting innovative energy solutions, we aim to create a more reliable and inclusive energy ecosystem for our people.” Namadi was quoted as saying in the statement.

    While reiterating commitment to viable programmes to meet the energy needs, Namadi said the development would improve electricity availability and stimulate economic growth in the state.

    The governor had earlier created the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

    ICPC tracks N10bn constituency projects in Jigawa

    The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), says it has begun tracking N10 billion constituency and executive projects in Jigawa State.

    Mr Ibrahim Garba, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner in Kano State, said this in a statement in Dutse on Monday.

    Garba, who oversees the commission’s operations in Jigawa, said the exercise would cover 40 projects under its seven phase across the 27 local government areas of the state.

    He said the exercise was aimed at ensuring efficient execution of the projects according to specifications for the benefit of the residents.

    According to him, the exercise aims to check wastage and corruption as well as ensure proper application of government resources, adding that the commission would collaborate with critical stakeholders in the  pursuit of its mandate.

    He list some of the stakeholders to include the media, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and Civil Society Organisations.

    “The commission has chosen sectors that have direct impact on life of the citizens, which are education, health, agriculture, water, rural roads, power and youths empowerment as a matter of priority,” Garba said.

    While urging residents of the state to report perceived wrong doing in the project execution in their communities, Garba tasked them to take ownership of the projects.

    How Jigawa tanker explosion left 209 dead, 99 injured

    Hafizu Inuwa, Chairman of the Jigawa Tanker Explosion Investigation Panel, has said that 209 lives were lost and 99 others injured in the accident.

    Recall that on October 14, a fuel tanker exploded in Majiya town killing hundreds and injuring several others.

    Sequel to this, Gov. Umar Namadi constituted a 25-member investigative panel to unravel the causes of the accident and recommend measures to avert future occurrences.

    Inuwa said this during the presentation of the committee’s report to the governor on Wednesday in Dutse.

    He said the accident claimed 209 lives, 38 injued persons were still on hospital admission and 61 others discharged while 167 families affected.

    “It was further discovered that the inferno resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions of Naira,” he said.

    Inuwa attributed the accident to a number of factors, including damaged speed-breaker and potholes located near the scene.

    He said the committee also identified night driving and speeding as contributory factors to the inferno

    “The inferno was possibly ignited by combined factors, including but not limited to friction of metallic containers with hard surface or other containers, as victims were scooping the spilled fuel”.

    The committee, he said, recommended regular inspection and enforcement of safety protocols by petroleum transporters and other articulated vehicles.

    Others include upgrade of emergency response centres, establishment of trauma and burns units in health facilities, as well as establishment of a road traffic control agency.

    “Where the victims or their relatives are seemingly old and vulnerable, government should provide them with social protection and enroll the most vulnerable victims and their relatives into the Danmodi Care Programme,” he said.

    The chairman further lauded the state government for its empathy, moral and psychological support to the affected community as well as the timely response to the disaster.

    Responding, Namadi promised to implement the recommendations of the committee, to ensure safety and welfare of the citizens.
