    1 killed at PDP’s rally in Jigawa

    The Police Command in Jigawa has confirmed one person killed at political rally of the governorship candidate of PDP, Dr. Mustapha Sule Lamido.

    DSP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who disclosed this on Saturday in a statement, alleged that the victim was killed by PDP supporters.

    Shiisu said that the deceased, who was identified as Abdullahi Isyaku, 37, was allegedly attacked when fighting erupted between PDP and APC supporters in Maigatari Local Government Area.

    “On Friday, at about 6:20 p.m., while the PDP gubernatorial candidate was conducting campaign rally in Maigatari LGA, as they arrived at APC Secretariat, clash erupted between the supporters of the parties.

    “And the Santuraki (Mustapha Sule Lamido) vanguard attacked one Abdullahi Isyaku aged 37 and a resident of Gangare quarters in Maigatari town,” Shiisu said.

    Shiisu said that five persons were arrested in connection with the incident.

    He, however,  lamented that the deceased, who was earlier rushed to Gumel General Hospital, died while receiving treatment.

    The PPRO said that investigation had commenced at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse.

    BREAKING: Emir Sanusi is dead

    The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Dr. Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi is dead, ages 78.

    This was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, signed by the state governor’s Senior Special Assistant, New Media, Auwalu Sankara.

    He said the emir died in an Abuja hospital after a protracted illness.

    In a statement, the Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar expressed his condolences to the family and entire people of the state.

    He described the late Emir as a true leader and a respected figure in the community, known for his wisdom, compassion, and dedication to the well-being of his people.

    He also recognized the Emir’s contributions to the growth and development of Dutse and the positive impact he had on the community.

    Dr Muhammad Sanusi was appointed the Emir of Dutse by the military administration of the Late Colonel Ibrahim Aliyu in 1995 after the passing away of his father Muhammad Sanusi.

    Sad! DPO slumps, dies inside office in Jigawa

    A Divisional Police Officer in Jahun Local Government Area, Jigawa State, SP Abubakar Musa has slumped and died in his office.

    Spokesman of the State police command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adamu confirmed the death in a statement on Saturday.

    He said the incident happened on Friday night around 9:00 pm in the DPO’s Jahun Division office after a protracted illness.

    According to him, “SP. Abubakar Musa died yesterday around 9:00pm while closing from his official duty.”

    He explained that the deceased was rushed to the Jahun General Hospital and Rashid Shekoni General Hospital and was later moved to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

    The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Emmanuel Ekot Effiom consoled the deceased’s family and the Nigeria Police Force.

    The Emir of Dutse in Jigawa State, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammed Sanusi has said the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one person he believes and competent to rule Nigeria.

    Speaking at the weekend when Tinubu visited him in Dutse on the sidelines of the party’s campaign rally in Jigawa State, Sanusi said he’s a follower of the former Lagos governor.

    He said: “I’m a keen follower of you and your political activities. You are one person I believe have the capacity and competence to rule the country.

    “Nigeria had been polarised before. You were able to bring the North and South together under this administration.

    “I attended your inauguration as the Jagaba of Borgu by the late Emir of Borgu. He was my friend. He was constantly talking about you and your good deeds.

    “You also went to America to study just like me. And like you, I also did several menial jobs to survive.

    “I’m also an Accountant like you. I have also read some of your books particularly like the one titled ‘Financialism’. The only thing I lack, unlike you, is the will to play politics.”

    Immigration rescue 6 human trafficking victims in Jigawa

    The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Jigawa Command, said it rescued six victims of human trafficking in the state.

    The NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Ahmed Bagari, told newsmen in Dutse on Monday that the victims were rescued by men of the command on Sunday.

    Bagari, represented by DCI Muhammad Yako, said the victims were rescued at about 6:30 p.m. in an uncompleted building in Babura town, headquarters of Babura Local Government Area of the state.

    He explained that the victims, aged between 20 and 35, were intercepted while on their way to Libya en route Niger Republic.

    The comptroller added that the victims, five females, and a male are from Oyo and Nassarawa states.

    According to him, none of the rescued victims was in possession of any travel document and no incriminating items were found on them during interrogation.

    “The victims were rescued on Sunday, the 1st January 2023 on their way to Niger Republic en route Libya.

    “The victims are made up of five females and one male that hailed from Oyo state; only one of them is from Nasarawa State.

    The victims are as follows: Olalekan A. Alabi, aged 35; Kehinde adetunde, 26; Afolabi ajibola, 24; Adedoyin Adetoji, 20; Olawuyi Mose bolatimoyo, 35 and Blessing John, 22.

    “The victims were rescued in an uncompleted building in Babura town which we believe they were kept by a syndicate,” the comptroller said.

    He added that the NIS Comptroller-General, Mr Idris Jere, had directed that the victims be handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further action.

    According to him, Jere also advised parents, guardians and the general public to desist from sending their children or wards abroad for non existing greener pastures.

    “Nigeria is far better than the so called greener pastures abroad in terms of freedom and other expectations. It is important to advise parents and guardians and the general public to watch over their children or wards and instill patriotism in them to stay in their country of origin and build it to greater heights.

    “This non existing greener pastures abroad deprives them of their freedom and exposes them to slavery, forced labour, organ harvest and death in the desert and at the sea, en route to their destination,” Bagari said.

    He further urged the general public to exercise their civic responsibilities by reporting cases of human trafficking and other related criminal acts to the nearest security agencies.

    Gov. Badaru signs N178.5bn Budget for 2023

    Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa on Friday signed the state’s N178.5 billion Budget for the 2023 fiscal year into law.

    Newsmen reports that Badaru signed the budget after it was passed to him by the State House of Assembly.

    The governor expressed satisfaction with the state budget performance in the last seven years of his administration.

    Badaru said that the 2023 Budget was designed to consolidate all the gains made in the last seven years, particularly in the area of physical and human capital development.

    “This budget will be used to complete ongoing projects and numerous new ones across the state.

    “In the last seven years, we were able to construct over 1,700 km roads, achieved 95 per cent access to water, improved our GDP, built and renovated over 6,000 class rooms.

    “Also, with effective budget implementation, we were able to improve our eduction sector and the results showed in the performances of our students WAEC/NECO results.

    “From 4.5 percent to over 60 per cent of those who obtained five credits, including Mathematics and English,” the governor said.

    He, however, pledged to ensure that the citizens continued to enjoy dividends of democracy throughout his tenure.

    “We’ve recorded significant improvement with regards to budget implementation and we will continue to ensure maximum implementation of this budget,” Badaru said.

    2023: INEC begins distribution of 98,890 PVCs in Jigawa

    The Jigawa office of INEC has commenced the distribution of 98,890 Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) in the state, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

    The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof Muhammad Lawan, made this known at a news conference in Dutse on Monday.

    Lawan said the exercise would be conducted simultaneously at the INEC offices in the 27 local government areas of the state, between Dec. 12 and Jan. 22, 2023

    He added that the distribution will be extended to all ward level (INEC Registration Areas) across the state.

    The REC, who added that the exercise would be conducted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily, warned residents against collection of their PVCs by proxy.

    According to him, the commission has made adequate arrangement to ensure that all the PVCs were distributed to their rightful owners within the stipulated period.

    “INEC has made provisions for individual voters to come and collect their PVCs by themselves.

    “So it will be a neglect on the part of the voter if he cannot collect his PVC at this given time.

    “This is because we’ve reached out to owners through social media and other means and notified them to check online if their PVCs were ready for collection.

    “Therefore, voters have between today up to Jan. 22 to collect thier PVCs,” Lawan.

    A full time politician and All Progressives Congress APC guber candidate in 2015 Professor Muhammad Lawal Bashar has emerged Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC for Jigawa.

    TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) gathered that Prof. Muhammad Lawal, former APC guber aspirant in Sokoto and former Special Adviser has been screened by the Senate and posted by INEC to Jigawa as Resident Electoral Commissioner.

    This development has led to doubts as to what will transpire in 2023 as politicians become umpires.

    NSCDC arrests 4 suspected robbers in Jigawa

    The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four suspected armed robbers in the state.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSC Adamu Shehu, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Dutse on Monday.

    Shehu said that the suspects aged between 22 and 30 were arrested after they conspired and burgled into the residence of one of the NSCDC personnel in Dutse Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

    “The suspects aged between 22 and 30 and residents of Takur Adua, Unguwar Gabas and Unguwar Barebari in Dutse LGA were arrested on Oct. 14.

    “They conspired and forcefully gained entry into the house of one Umar Yunusa, a staff of the NSCDC on Sept. 24 around 2 a.m., when he was asleep. Upon hearing their movements, he woke up and engaged them in a fight.

    “But when he realised that they were in possession of dangerous weapons, he shouted for help which scared and made them runaway.

    “Luckily, they left an exhibit, a head warmer which was used in apprehending one of them and subsequently the rest of the ring members,” he said.

    The PRO said that on the same date, the suspects burgled into the residence of one Abdulfatahi Sulaiman of the same address at about 1:30 a.m., and robbed him of N15, 000 cash and a mobile phone valued at N55, 000.

    “When interrogated, the suspects mentioned the name of one other person that they connived with and trespassed into the residences of one Ejike Nicholas and one Fahad Hassan on Aug. 17 and Sept. 8 in the same area and stole a laptop computer and a Plasma television set.

    “They also confessed to have terrorised Takur Addu’a and its environs using cutlasses and knives to steal from the residents,” Shehu added.

    He said that investigation was still ongoing in the case after which the suspects would be charged to court.

    Court strikes out N36bn fraud charge against ex-Jigawa Gov

    A Federal High Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa on Thursday struck out a N36 billion corruption case against the former governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Saminu Turaki.

    Delivering a ruling, Justice Hassan Dikko, struck out the case for want in diligent prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

    Dikko also discharged  Turaki and ordered the EFCC to do the needful when they are ready to proceed with the case.

    Earlier, the Defence Counsel, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, pleaded with the court to strike out the case against the first defendant for lack of diligent prosecution.

    Aondoakaa argued that the case was slated for hearing and neither the prosecution counsel nor witnesses were in the court.

    He explained that Thursday’s sitting was the sixth adjournment since the case was brought before the High Court in Dutse.

    He said there was no reason given by the prosecution for non-appearance.

    The defence counsel, pleaded with the court to strike out the charge.

    Turaki, who served as Jigawa governor between 1999 and 2007, was first arraigned by the EFCC before Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 13, 2007, on a 32-count charge of alleged misappropriation of N36 billion while in office.

    In 2011, the case was transferred to the Federal High Court, Dutse after he successfully challenged the territorial jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Abuja to hear the case.

    He was subsequently re-arraigned on the same 32-count charge at the Dutse Division of the Federal High Court.
