“May such sentiments echo and reecho globally.
“Not only do I congratulate you on your victory, but I also urge you to build on US-Nigeria relations, especially on widening the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) for seamless interplay with the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
“Only by fair trade will Africa fulfil its potential, and a prosperous Africa is good for the United States and the world.”
Abubakar said that in electing a man rich in experience, the great people of the United States of America have done the world a great service.

Buhari congratulates Biden, begs for more cooperation between United States, Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated former Vice President Joe Biden on his election as the new President of the United States (US).

Buhari told the US president-elect to show respect for Africa, stressing that Nigeria looks forward to greater cooperation with the US when he assumes office.

Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said Biden is becoming president at a time of uncertainty and fear in world affairs.

The Nigerian leader said “your election is a significant reminder that democracy is the best form of government because it offers the people the opportunity to change their government by peaceful means.”

According to President Buhari, “the most powerful group are not the politicians, but voters who can decide the fate of the politicians at the polling booth.”

He noted that “the main fascination of democracy is the freedom of choice and the supremacy of the will of the people.”

The President added that “respect for the will of the people is the very reason why democracy remains the best form of government, despite its limitations from one polity to another, and from one society to another.”

According to him, “I am thrilled by the fact that you are an experienced politician who had served as Congressman for 40 years and a Vice President for eight years. This is a remarkable track record that gives us hope that you will add value to the presidency and world affairs.”

President Buhari also noted that, “with your election, we look forward to greater cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, especially at economic, diplomatic and political levels, including the war against terrorism.”

On international affairs, President Buhari urged Mr. Biden to “deploy your vast experience in tackling the negative consequences of nationalist politics on world affairs which have created divisions, conflicts and uncertainties.”

The Nigerian leader also called on Mr. Biden “to introduce greater engagement with Africa on the basis of reciprocal respects and shared interests.”

  • Biden overturns Trump lead in 2 swing states as U.S. awaits result

Biden overturns Trump lead in 2 swing states as U.S. awaits result

Democratic candidate Joe Biden has taken the lead in the U.S states of Pennsylvania and Georgia, two of the final states still in play in the presidential election.

Biden has overhauled what was a substantial lead for President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, and on Friday he pulled slightly ahead as mail-in ballots were added to the tally, broadcasters CNN and Fox reported.

The results of a little over 30,000 ballots were announced, Biden won around 87 per cent of those votes.

Winning Pennsylvania would give either candidate 20 of the crucial Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency.

This is more electoral votes than any other of the undeclared swing states, and could on its own be enough to push Biden over the critical 270 mark.

A win for Biden in Georgia not at all certain given that the margin is less than 1,000 votes – would hand him the state’s crucial 16 Electoral College votes.

If Georgia, which has voted Republican every election cycle since 1992, is called for Biden and Arizona holds for the Democrat, this would also push him over the 270 mark.

The pressure is rising on Trump, who has fewer paths to victory with time running out for him to overturn Biden’s leads.

Election officials say staff are diligently working in several states to count every vote, noting that mail-in balloting has added some time to the tallying process.

Trump has made repeated unsubstantiated claims of fraud since Tuesday’s election, with Twitter slapping warning signs on post after post, saying the president is apparently spreading misinformation.

No election officials have reported fraud.

In a speech from the White House, his first since the night of polls closing, Trump railed against his opponents, claiming they were aiming to rig the election against him.

The president blamed a conspiracy of big media, big money, and big tech for the whittling away of his lead.

Biden has struck a markedly different tone, noting that votes take time to tally and that he was content to wait until the end of counting, saying he has no doubt that he would emerge the winner.

“Democracy is sometimes messy and sometimes requires a little patience as well,’’ he said in brief remarks from his home state of Delaware on Thursday.

Biden reiterates confidence in victory, urges calm

Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has reiterated his confidence in winning the election, with counting still ongoing in battleground states.

In an address to the nation on Thursday, Biden said he had no doubt he would be declared winner once all the votes were counted.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and patient, noting that “democracy is sometimes messy”.

“Democracy is sometimes messy. It sometimes requires a little patience.

“We have no doubt that when the count is finished, Senator (Kamala) Harris and I will be declared the winners.

“So, I ask everyone to stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed and we’ll know very soon,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report on Thursday night, Biden was leading in both the popular and electoral college votes.

According to the Associated Press tally, he was ahead with 73,639,060 or 50.4 per cent of the general ballots cast and 264 electoral college votes.

That means the former vice president needs just six more electoral votes to reach the 270 finishing line to end the president’s second-term dream.

Trump, on the other hand, was closely behind with 69,066,908 popular votes representing 47.9 per cent of the total and 214 electoral college votes.

Counting continues in key swing states including Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska.

Shortly before Biden’s address, Trump vowed to legally challenge election results in all the states claimed by his Democratic rival.

“Plenty of proof, just check out the Media. We will win! America first!”, he said in a tweet, which Twitter labeled as unsubstantiated.

His campaign organisation has cited alleged instances, including limited access to counting centres in Pennsylvania.

It also alleged that people who tried to vote in Nevada were told that they had previously voted by even when they claim they had not done so.

The Biden campaign organisation said it was not at all concerned about Trump’s claims and campaign lawsuits.

It said that it had been prepared against this since September when they started seeing efforts by the president to discredit mail-in voting with misinformation.

  • LIVE RESULTS: Trump gives Biden hot chase

LIVE RESULTS: Trump gives Biden hot chase

Former Vice President Joe Biden is presently leading incumbent President Donald Trump in the U.S. 2020 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports while Biden is ahead, Trump is in a hot chase to catch up and probably win the election to remain president for another 4 years.

As it stands, Biden has polled 73,487,367 votes, which is 50.5% of popular votes so far and Trump has polled 69,620,543 votes, 47.9% of popular votes so far, according to live data on Fox News.

The live presidential election results show that at this minute, Biden has 264 electoral college votes and Trump is managing 214 electoral college votes.

A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win the presidential election. The projected winner is based on the expected allocation of each state’s electoral votes.

The elections have been a nail-biter. No winner has been declared in the presidential race yet.

U.S. voters will look to a handful of states still in play with the hope of getting a decisive result.

Biden eyes victory, launches transition website

Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. President, has launched an official transition website, www.buildbackbetter.com.

The move comes as votes are still being counted in many states and the presidential race still undecided.

On the www.buildbackbetter.com website is a short statement that reiterates Biden’s earlier assertion that it is the American people that will decide who becomes the next U.S. president.

“Votes are still being counted in several states around the country.

“The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice.

“The transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One,” the statement says.

Earlier in a speech, Biden, who is also a former U.S. Vice President, said it was clear that he had won “enough states to reach 270 electoral votes to win the presidency”.

“I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners,” he said.

  • U.S. looks to final swing states’ results to settle election

U.S. looks to final swing states’ results to settle election

U.S voters on Thursday will look to a handful of states still in play with the hope of getting a decisive result on whether President Donald Trump or Democratic challenger Joe Biden has won the 2020 election.

Biden has a lead in the race, and has multiple pathways to victory, while Trump, the Republican, is in a tighter spot.

Trump’s campaign has launched legal challenges in three states and is demanding a recount in another.

All eyes will be on Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania to see if any are solid enough to be called for a candidate.

If Biden can hold a lead in Arizona, which is also set to report more results, any other state coming in for him will likely push his campaign over the line.

The election has been a nail-biter, with the Democrats having failed to deliver the repudiation of Trump that they had promised.

The Republicans look set to hold a slim majority in the Senate, while the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives shrunk.

Trump does not appear ready to concede the election, as he has even claimed victory in states that are still up in the air and even Michigan, one that clearly went for Biden. It is highly unusual for a candidate to make such a move.

Several of Trump’s posts on Twitter and Facebook have been affixed with warning messages, including ones claiming fraud without proof, amid concerns they were designed to spread misinformation.

A candidate wins the White House by securing 270 electoral votes. Each state in the union gets a number of Electoral College votes based on population.

  • U.S. ELECTIONS: Trump laments as Biden leads polls

U.S. ELECTIONS: Trump laments as Biden leads polls

President Donald Trump has said his leads ‘magically’ disappeared after ‘surprise ballot dumps’ were counted.

Trump stated this via Twitter, stressing it was devastating every time they count Mail-In ballot.

“Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled.

“Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted.

“VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!

“How come every time they count Mail-In ballot dumps they are so devastating in their percentage and power of destruction?” he queried.

TNG reports that while the race for president has shifted away from Trump, Republicans have left the Democrats far behind in the race for control of the Senate.

Popular vote at the hour showed Biden at 50.1% and Trump at 48.3% with electoral college vote for Biden at 238 and for Trump at 213.

There is no projected winner for the presidential election yet. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win the presidential election.

The projected winner is based on the expected allocation of each state’s electoral votes.

Although Trump had said he won the election, votes are still being counted across the country.

U.S ELECTIONS: Biden’s camp replies Trump over threat to ‘shut down’ vote counting

Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign lashed out at President Donald Trump, who appeared to threaten a court battle to stop votes from being tallied.

Biden’s campaign warned that they also have lawyers who will fight to count each ballot.

Jen O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s campaign manager, said in a statement that “the president’s statement tonight about trying to shut down the counting of duly cast ballots was outrageous, unprecedented, and incorrect.

“Never before in our history has a president of the United States sought to strip Americans of their voice in a national election.’’

Dillon insisted that Trump had no legal power to declare himself the victor or influence vote counting. “We have legal teams standing by,’’ the statement said.
