    Drama as suspected kidnapper, John Lyon and accomplice weep to go to prison than police custody

    A mild drama played out on Wednesday at the Bayelsa State Judiciary Complex, Yenagoa, as suspected ‘celebrity kidnapper,’ John Ike Lyon, and his accomplice, Emmanuel Angase, wept not to be taken back to police custody but prison in line with the presiding judge, Justice Ineikad Eradiri, order that they should be remanded in prison.

    The duo pleaded not guilty to a 14-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping, and armed robbery filed against them.

    After the judge’s pronouncement, the suspects demanded to speak to the press when they were about to be ushered into the waiting police van.

    They alleged that they were being threatened in police custody and do not want to return there. The suspects then refused to enter the police Hilux van, insisting that they be taken to the Yenagoa Prisons as ordered by the presiding judge.

    They were, however, forced into the police van by the policemen when their counsel told them that their prison remand order has not yet been signed by the judge.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Lyon who used to be a cleaner in a bank, and the other suspects, were arrested in September this year over allegations of carrying out a series of kidnappings in the state.

    According to the counts read out by the court clerk, John Lyon Ike, Emmanuel Charles Angase and others at large were charged on four counts of “conspiracy to commit felony contrary to section 444 sub (a) of the criminal code law, Cap (C) Laws of Bayelsa State, 2006.

    They were also charged on eight counts of “kidnapping contrary to Section 2 sub (1) of the Kidnapping and Other Offences Laws of Bayelsa State 2013,” and a further two counts of armed robbery, contrary to Section 329 sub (2 ) of the criminal code law, cap ‘C’ of Bayelsa State, 2006.”

    The University of Calabar, on Wednesday, said that the alleged kidnapper, John Ewa, popularly called “John Lyon” was not a graduate of the institution.

    A statement issued in Calabar by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe, said that the university’s management stumbled on the media report with dissatisfaction and described it as fallacious.

    Newsmen recalls that Ewa was arrested in connection with kidnapping activities by the Bayelsa Police Command and was subsequently paraded before the media.

    “The said John Ewa was never a student of the university, neither did he graduate from the institution.

    “We urge members of the public to discountenance any information linking John Ewa to our prestigious university,” Egbe said in the statement.

    Following his arrest, multiple photos of the kidnapper from his normal life surfaced; one of which included an intense worship session in church.

    He tweeted; “For those of you who go to church to look for “God Fearing Man”, be aware that the church is just like the hospital.-Not everyone is responding to treatment. Crying during worship doesn’t make someone holy. This is Lyon the Kidnapper who tortures, maims and kills Nigerians.”

    Yetunde Bakare slates alleged millionaire kidnapper Lyon over mercy appeal

    Nollywood Yoruba actress, Yetunde Bakare, has scolded suspected millionaire kidnapper, John Ewa, alias John Lyon, who was recently arrested in Abuja for begging for mercy.

    According to the actress, Lyon did not have mercy on his victims.

    She said this while reacting to a viral video of the alleged kidnapper begging for forgiveness after his arrest.

    “Begging for Mercy when you don’t have mercy on your victims. God is indeed patient,” the actress wrote on Instagram on Monday.

    The police on Monday paraded Lyon alongside three members of his suspected kidnap gang at the Police Officers Mess, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.

    Lyon has been on the wanted list of the police for various alleged abductions in the state.

    In the viral video, he pleaded for forgiveness after he was arrested, claiming that his wife was just delivered of a baby boy.

    Lyon also claimed he only participated in two kidnapping operations before his arrest.“Forgive me, make una forgive me, my wife just born sef, a boy,” he said.

    According to his bio on Facebook, the Bayelsa State indigene is a former member of staff of Sterling Bank.

    In 2019, the suspect was said to have put his weight behind the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa, David Lyon.

    But in February 2020, the Supreme Court sacked Lyon barely 24 hours to his inauguration.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Lyon was arrested on Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, by officers of the Bayelsa police command.

    A video showing the alleged kidnapper being handcuffed surfaced on social media over the weekend.

    In the less than two-minute video, Lyon confessed to kidnapping, adding that he only joined the syndicate to carry out two operations.

    He was also seen begging for forgiveness over his alleged crime, saying his wife had just delivered a baby.

    “Sir, please forgive me. My wife just born self,” he said in a video while shedding tears.

    According to his Facebook profile, Lyon worked for a bank from 2008 to 2014.

    He also identified himself as the chief executive officer of Lions Interior Hub.

    Lyon’s social media posts feature him showing off luxurious items, displays of religiosity and posting motivational quotes about success.

    In a Facebook post published on April 27, 2020, he told his followers to keep working hard and “stay safe”.

    “Nothing good ever cames from too many people knowing your business. Being private and lowkey is the best way to be.#Hustle Hard #stay safe,” he wrote.

    A suspected millionaire kidnapper, John Ewa, alias John Lyon, terrorizing Bayelsa state but based in Abuja, has denied being part of kidnap operations, saying ” I was misled to show them where this person is”.

    The former banker (Lyon) was reportedly arrested by officers of Operation Puff Adder following the kidnap of Danjuma Emeije, a bank manager in Yenagoa, who was said to be his former boss.

    Emeije was reportedly kidnapped on June 30, 2022, and was released after paying 50 million naira as ransom.

    Lyon. who was paraded in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State by men of the Nigeria Police Force, is alleged to have been involved in the kidnap of several persons in Bayelsa.

    Speaking with journalists on Monday, Lyon said, “I’m not part of it (kidnap operations), I was misled to show them where this person is. I wasn’t involved in it.

    “I’m not in the (kidnap) business. I didn’t approach Danjuma, I only went there to open an account.”

    Lyon, 30, a native of Eruan community in Boki LGA of Cross River State, also spoke on his role in kidnapping another victim identified as Hakeem.

    “I didn’t play any role in Hakeem’s kidnap, I just showed them his house. We were driving and I pointed to the house. It was my former boss’s house, that was it,” he said.

    His alleged accomplice, identified as Emma, claimed that Lyon approached him and other gang members with the proposal to kidnap Hakeem and Danjuma.

    “He is lying. I didn’t give him money, it wasn’t me that gave him money. I don’t know those people from anywhere. He is the one that worked with them, I don’t know anything about them,” he said.

    Meanwhile, Bayelsa State Police Commissioner Ben Okoli, has said the Abuja socialite (Lyon) was a cleaner at a new generation bank.

    Okoli stated this during the parade of Lyon and three other members of the kidnap syndicate.

    According to the police boss, Lyon and his gang were involved in the kidnap of top bankers, businessmen and prominent persons.

    He identified the leader of the kidnap gang as Emmanuel Angase, 37, a native of Azuzuama community, Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa.

    The CP said, “Angase operates a kidnapping camp at Sunikiri creek near Oluasiri in Nembe LGA with his second in command, one Gbalipre Gamage, now at large. Police operatives recovered a brand new Toyota Avalon he bought for his wife with the proceeds of ransom he collected.

    “The gang leader, Angase, has confessed that on 30th June 2022 at about 0600 hours, himself, John Ewa and others at large accosted Danjuma Omeje at the entrance of his house at Okaka, kidnap him and fled in a blue Toyota Corolla car with plate-number KJA 225 AY.

    “They took the victim to his camp at Sunikiri Oluasiri, and released him on 14th July 2022 after collecting N60m ransom. The suspect also confessed to the kidnap of Akeeb Oladele Olusola a banker and Nancy Keme Dickson, who was kidnapped on 26th December 2015. He also confessed to the kidnap of Chinonso Eze and other Igbo businessmen.

    “John Ewa, 30 years, aka John Lyon, a native of Eruan community in Boki LGA, Cross River State, known for flamboyant lifestyle on social media, a former cleaner with a new generation bank, confessed to have collected $10,000 (TenThousand US Dollars) from the ransom collected in the kidnap of Danjuma Omeje.

    “Innocent Kingsley, 31 years, a native of Egbu community Etche LGA, Rivers State. The owner of a Blue Toyota Corolla car with REG NO KJA 225 AY, and one Timi Werikumo ‘m’ 21 years, a native of Azuzuama community of Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State.”

    On some of the gang’s alleged activities, Okoli said: “On 8th December, 2020 one Akeeb Oladele Olushola, male, 48, a Manager of a new generation bank was kidnapped at his residence at Old Commissioners’ Quarters, Opolo. He was released on the 12th December 2020 after paying a ransom of N80m.

    “Similarly, Danjuma Omeje, 41, a Manager of a new generation bank in Yenagoa was kidnapped at his residence at Okaka, Yenagoa, on 30th June, 2022. He was released on 14th July 2022 after paying a ransom of N60 million, N30m cash and US Dollars equivalent of N30m.”
