    Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva in deep sorrow

    Joke Silva, the veteran Nollywood actress has taken to social media to announce the death of her elder brother, John Olabiyi Silva.

    TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that the veteran actress made this known in a post shared on her Instagram page on Thursday, where she disclosed that her brother died on August 29, 2025, at the age of 72.

    Joke Silva also paid tribute to her late brother with heartfelt words that reflected their close bond.

    She wrote, “With acceptance of God’s Sovereign will, we announce the call to the glory of my dear brother, John Olabiyi Silva …long John Silva…Bros B…Uncle B…. my easy go lucky brother. Rest in peace. January 22nd 1953-August 29th, 2025.” 

    John Olabiyi Silva is not in the limelight like his sister, but the announcement prompted condolence messages from industry colleagues and fans as they called him nicknames like “Long John Silva,” “Bros B,” and “Uncle B”.

    The 61-year-old via her Instgaram shared a heartfelt note, reflecting on her journey with Olu Jacobs since they first met when he was 38 years old. With gratitude, she thanked God for guiding her husband through each day, recognizing that their union has experienced both ups and downs.

    She praised the wisdom reflected on his face, likening it to a life well-lived. In her post, Joke Silva prayed for peace during his twilight years, wishing for her husband’s spirit to remain strong and free from fear. She asked God to keep him close within His care.

    Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has disclosed the reason why she does not indulge in sexual roles during movie productions.

    The 63-year-old  in a recent chat with Saturday Sun, shared her reasons for avoiding sexually instigated roles in her career.

    The actress made it known that her choice to stay clear of sexual and romantic scenes is intentional, rooted in her belief that storytelling can convey sensuality without those kind of content.

    The veteran feels that such scenes should serve the narrative rather than rely on such value, advocating for creative approaches that respect both the story and the audience.

    She also spoke on the Nollywood’s cultural identity, stating that the industry is maintaining its cultural core, even though there are some concerns.

    She noted that although culture is evolving in a globalized world, streaming platforms encourage true cultural expression, which she sees as a way of enriching Nollywood’s unique character.

    Joke Silva also addressed the limited role opportunities for older actors, calling for the need for more diverse stories that include middle-aged and older characters.

    She points out that the experiences of people over 50 are frequently overlooked. By focusing on their interactions with younger generations, Nollywood can help enhance its storytelling.

    Joke Silva shares touching video to mark husband Olu Jacobs’ birthday

    Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has taken to social media share a heartwarming tribute to her husband, Olu Jacobs, in celebration of his 82nd birthday.

    Joke, at wee hours on Thursday, shared a video on Instagram that captured her husband during his youthful days. The video also showed him admiring his house coat.

    Joke prayed for her husband that he would continue to enjoy good health.

    “82 just like that. Agba ko ni nira l’agbara Jesu…Happy birthday and have an amazing year ahead, me darling… Sir J of life.

    @_olujacobs (loving his customized house coat …thanks a mill @thegardentheatre Tosin Otudeko),” she wrote.

    It would be recalled that the veteran actor was rumoured dead on social media in June.

    The family, however released videos to debunk the rumour.

    In a 19-second video, Olu is seen getting his beard shaved while his son informs him about the rumour of his death. The actor appeared surprised about it.

    The son of the veteran actor, Soji Jacobs, who spoke to newsmen on the phone said, “The family is tired of this rumour that keeps recurring every year.”

    Popular Nollywood actress, Mrs Mercy Johnson Okojie has denied the claims that she has cancer, reassuring some of her fans, who were worried about her health, that she doesn’t have cancer but had a cancer scare.

    Recall Mrs Okojie first opened up on having a cancer scare during a chat with Joke Silva on her TV show, Menu’s Menu on Thursday. Following the chat with Silva, speculations quickly spread that Okojie has cancer.

    However, addressing the falsehood, the popular Nollywood actress posted a video on her Instagram page on Saturday night where she denied the claims.

    Okojie in the video said her chat with Joke Silva was misunderstood.

    “I do not have cancer. I noticed that the clip from my TV show, Mercy’s Menu has been flying around and they cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scare. It means that I had this swelling on my neck and my doctor felt it was something serious.

    “I had problems with my thyroid. I am perfectly okay. It was completely misunderstood. I am fine. I do not have cancer,” Okojie

    Mercy Johnson, Joke Silva named in APC women presidential campaign council

    Popular Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson Okojie and Joke Silva, have been named leaders of the women folk for the All Progressives Congress (APC) party’s presidential campaign.

    APC, on Saturday, through a spokesperson for the campaign, Rinsola Abiola, who is also the daughter of late Moshood Abiola, released its list for leaders of the women folk on Independence Day.

    The campaign list also contains the names of first lady Aisha Buhari, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nana Shettima and 944 high-profile women and wives of prominent APC politicians.

    In the list tagged ‘Tinubu-Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Team,’ Mrs Buhari was appointed as grand patron, Tinubu, a three-term senator emerged as chairman; Nana was made co-chairman while Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari’s personal assistant on social media, also made the campaign train as deputy national co-ordinator.

    In the category of zonal leaders, Zainab Baugudu, wife of Kebbi State governor will coordinate the north west; wife of Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo–Olu leads south west; wife of Borno State governor, Falmata Zulum, will be in charge of the north east.

    In a similar vein, Olufolake Abdulrazaq, wife of Kwara State governor, will coordinate efforts in the north central.

    Wife of Imo State governor, Chioma Ikeaka-Uzodinma will organise south east campaign; her counterpart in Cross River, Linda Ayade, will oversee activities in the south south.

    The statement partly read, “The Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Women Presidential Campaign Team is pleased to announce the release of the composition of its various committees for the 2023 presidential campaign.

    “While we congratulate the appointees, they are advised to collect their letters of appointment at the Tinubu/Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Office at No 2 Kainji Crescent, off Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama, Abuja on 3rd October 2022 by 10am.”

    The statement further indicated that wives of APC Governors will serve as coordinators in their respective states while high-profile party women leaders will head campaign activities in non-APC-controlled states.

    In the 70-page campaign document, no fewer than 33 Nollywood and Kannywood actors were enlisted for entertainment.

    They included veteran thespians such as Joke Silva who chairs the category, Fausat Balogun, Remi Oshodi, Mercy Johnson, Rose Odika, Sola Kosoko, Lanre Hassan (Iya Awero) Hajiya Nas, Lizzy Jay (Omo Ibadan), Princess Kalihat Bello among others.

    Veteran actress, Joke Silva has taken to her social media page to debunk rumour of the death of her husband, Olu Jacobs.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that this is the second time in months that Joke Silva would be debunking the rumour of the death of Olu Jacobs.

    In an Instastory post she shared, Joke disclosed that her husband is hale and hearty and is “enjoying himself as always in the comfort of his home”.

    She also warned those peddling the rumours to prepare for legal action.

    The Instastory she shared reads: “Good day everyone, trust all is going well. The Jacobs clan would love to inform you that Papa J (Olu Jacobs MFR) is alive and well. Enjoying himself as always in his home and loved ones.

    “To all those who have decided to ignore our last warning regarding fake news kindly prepare for legal action. Singed House Jacobs”.

    TNG reports that Olu Jacobs turned 80 in July and a big birthday celebration was held for the veteran. Friends and Family came from far and wide to celebrate him and it was a lovely event.

    Faith Morey recently confirmed that marriage to her husband, Randy Morey has ended. The couple got married in 2010.

    Patience Ozokwor speaks about who can replace Olu Jacobs in Nollywood

    Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor has given a side on who can replace veteran actor, Olu Jacobs in the movie industry.

    During the 80th birthday of Olu Jacobs held at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on Sunday, Patience said she does not think anyone can replace her colleague.

    While appreciating the actor for his acting skills, she revealed that she misses him on set and his versatility to play any role.

    “I’m missing him on set, he can play an Igbo king, he can play a Yoruba king, in fact, I don’t think anybody can replace him,” she said.

    Buhari joins Nollywood in celebrating Olu Jacobs at 80

    President Muhammadu Buhari has joined Nollywood and professional actors, home and abroad in celebrating stage and screen icon, Olu Jacobs, on his 80th birthday on July 11.

    The president, in a congratulatory message by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, on Sunday in Abuja, felicitated the Jacobs’ family, including the wife, also a renowned thespian, Joke Silva, and their friends on the auspicious occasion.

    According to him, the occasion calls for thanksgiving for God’s care, guidance and protection.

    Buhari affirmed the influence of the veteran actor on the film industry, setting a standard of professionalism that had attracted global recognition and awards.

    He said such award included the Lifetime Achievement Awards conferred on him in 2016 by African Movie Academy Awards.

    The president noted Jacobs’ ingenious ability to interpret roles, simplified complex issues and bringing messages to the understanding of both young and old, levelling cultural, ethnic and religious barriers to become a household name all over the country and beyond.

    Buhari also believed Jacobs’ natural tendency to counsel, inspire and instruct easily earned him the roles, while appreciating his foresight in winning many into the profession and guiding them to stardom.

    He prayed that the Almighty God would grant him better health, longer life and steadfastness in service to the arts, God, and humanity.
