The thespian revealed this during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

According to her: “Years ago, we did this film that was the time the marketers were getting involved in movies. This marketer came to our house, we were living in Ikeja at the time, brought money for myself and my husband to come on this film that they had already started shooting. And he wanted us to play the parents of the star of the film and we decided to do it. It was Fred Amata who directed at the time. We started shooting and things were going a bit rocky until one day we were waiting for the lead actress. They told us we had to be on location by eight in the morning. And we got on location on time, we are never late. We got dressed and we were waiting. We were waiting till four in the afternoon.

“When the marketer then brings the star along to the location, I turned around and I looked at Fred and said ‘I am contracted to work with you for two weeks and I will give you two extra days because I know what location can be like, after those two days, if we don’t finish, I am walking’.Fred said I totally understand. I am sure he didn’t believe I would do it.

“When those two days were up, we still had one scene and it was supposed to be a very crucial scene in the film. I didn’t show up. The marketer was big at that time. Because of that, I was secretly blacklisted for quite a while. Mine was never mentioned, but it was done.”

  • I was shattered when I discovered I was adopted-Joke Silva

I was shattered when I discovered I was adopted-Joke Silva

Veteran actress, Joke Silva has averred that she was shattered when she discovered she was adopted.

The revered role interpreter, who is the wife of Olu Jacobs, a renowned actor, spoke when she featured on ‘Public Eye‘, a talk show hosted by Funmi Iyanda.

Silva said she found out she was an adopted child when she searched through her mother’s documents at 10.

“It’s something like where one is just getting to share it in the public. It is something that I found out when I was much younger. Mine was a secret adoption. It was not something that my parents discussed,” the film star said.

“My mum’s elder sister wanted me to travel with her to Kenya and my mother was not around. She asked if I knew where my passport was and I was like yes yes yes. I know where mum keeps all the important documents.

“Then I go to the important suitcase that has all the important documents, where I found my passport but also found my adoption certificate. It was like ‘I beg your pardon’. I was 10-11 at the time. It was a bit shattering.

“It was tough. You how you’re very sensitive as a child. There was just something in it letting you know they would have discussed it with you if it was something they wanted to discuss.

“But I got to a point when I was able to discuss it, myself and my mum. What was interesting is that she found it easier to discuss it with my older son than she did with me. My mum wasn’t comfortable discussing it.”

Speaking further, the elegant movie star added that she felt vulnerable and destabilised when she first shared her adoption story publicly in 2018.

“My adoption was such that people knew about it but just never discussed it with me. Sharing my story in 2018 in an orphanage, I was pretty destabilised. It was like opening up a part of me that was very private,” she elucidated.

Excitement as Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva celebrate 35th wedding anniversary

Revered Nollywood couple, Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary today.

The veteran actress took to her verified Instagram account to thank God for the years she has spent with her beloved husband.

Excited fans and colleagues of the power couple, have also taken to the comment section of the post to felicitate with them.

She wrote, “Totally forgot. 35 years together. Thank you Lord. Here is to many more. Happy wedding anniversary Omo boy @_olujacobs.”

In an interview, Olu Jacobs shared tips on how marriages between entertainers can work.

According to him: ”When one is thinking for oneself alone, one has nobody to worry about. But the moment one has a partner, one’s thoughts change because everything one does from that point has to be done for two. Until one understands that, one cannot be said to be truly married. You have to factor in your partner in your thoughts at all times. Also, you have to come to an agreement (over certain issues) because there is no point in disagreeing. You must be able to talk to each other calmly, politely and respectfully, without shouting. If you have a tight schedule, you have to make sure you still find time for your partner.

“In any relationship, both partners must be open and frank with each other. If you disagree, you can take some time to calm down and come back to deal with the issue”.

  • Lagos appoints Joke Silva chairman of state COVID-19 Pandemic Review Committee

The Lagos State Government on Thursday inaugurated the State’s Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Review Committee, with veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva as Chairman.

The committee was inaugurated to reactivate the Tourism, Arts, and Culture sector of the state.

Other members of the committee include Mr. Atunyota Akpobome (a.k.a Ali Baba), Mr. Patrick Donald Lee, Dr. Adun Okupe, Mrs. Oyenike Okundaye, and Mr. Gbenga Sunmonu.

Inaugurating the committee in Ikeja, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, said that the state’s creative industry had remained dormant, following the Coronavirus pandemic.

Akinbile-Yusuf said the six-member committee is expected to draw out suggestions and recommendations on ways to re-activate the industry.

She said that members were expected to make recommendations to the state government on ways to rejuvenate its economy, particularly the Tourism and Entertainment industry.

”The situation in the world today was not pre-determined. This is where we are and this is what we have seen happening to us.

”The tourism sector is one of the worst-hit sectors by this pandemic because, on a daily basis, Lagos records new cases and we must not shy away from the fact that COVID-19 is still with us.

”Everywhere is shut down. The airline operators are not operating, there is nothing like Art exhibitions, and hospitality businesses have been put on hold.

”So, we want to find a way to sustain our economy and the industry, even with the pandemic, and see how best we can continue to improve on the creative sector,” the commissioner said.

Akinbile-Yusuf said that the committee was expected to submit its reports in two weeks.

She said that some of the terms of reference for the committee include conducting a holistic assessment of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.

According to her, the committee is to come up with recommendations on the short and long term palliatives with respect to soft loans and grants to assuage the negative impact of the scourge on the industry.

She said that the committee was also expected to refocus attention toward the development of domestic tourism as an immediate measure to revitalize the industry.

Akinbile-Yusuf said that the expectations of government include advice on strategic measures that would ensure post-COVID-19 sustainability of the industry.

She assured that the state government would not abandon the industry in such a precarious situation, but provide support and encouragement to sustain tourism and ensure it thrived beyond COVID-19.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu, said that those in the committee were very knowledgeable about the industry.

Bonu said that the state was looking at revitalizing the tourism business, hence, the need for the committee.

He, therefore, implored the committee members to bring their professionalism and expertise to bear on boosting the state’s tourism sector beyond the COVID-19 era.

The Chairman of the Committee, Silva, thanked the state government for the opportunity given to come up with recommendations to reposition the creative and tourism industry in the state.

However, Silva, a veteran actress, said that all the appointees would work together to achieve the expected results.

”I am very lucky to have intelligent people as members of the committee because they are men and women who are very knowledgeable and passionate about the industry.

”I know that our collaboration will result in good recommendations. The creative industry has been greatly affected by COVID-19, but we will get through it,” she said.
