Jose Mourinho gives hint on retirement plan

Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he still has the hunger for success.

Mourinho was speaking at the Quinas de Ouro event in Portugal.

He stated, “Last season we did what no one expected, this year we’ll try to do better. We don’t have the same economic potential as our rivals.

“We had a €7m transfer market, but we have quality, passion, many people who like to work together, which is an important thing, and then at the end of the season we will see.

“These 22 years have passed quickly, but I want to continue. I feel good, I feel strong, motivated, I like winning, I hate losing, nothing has changed.

“The colour of my hair, yes, even the wrinkles, but I want to go on. Not for another 22 years, as there is no time, but for a few more years.”

  • Jose Mourinho makes U-turn, rejects the nickname ‘Special One’

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho has rejected the tag The special one

Meanwhile  the Portuguese is looking  forward to becoming  the first coach ever  to lift the Europa conference league  trophy, when the Serie A side play Feyenoord in the  final on Wednesday.

Mourinho who has already won the Champions League, Europa League and the UEFA Cup hopes to add the Europa league to his cabinet.

Mourinho nicknamed himself the special one after his exploits as the manager of Chelsea in 2004 but twist of fate has now forced him to reject the nickname.

“If I win, I will become the first one to win all European trophies, but that’s only if I win,” Mourinho told reporters on Tuesday.

“The ‘Special One’ story is an old story. It was when I was at the beginning [of my career]. When you have more maturity and stability, you think more about the people and less about yourself.

“It’s an old story. I don’t believe in magic. When you arrive at a final after a season of work, the work is done. It’s the team’s moment, not the moment of an individual.”

  • Antonio Cassano criticises Mourinho work at Roma

Antonio Cassano criticises Mourinho work at Roma

Former Roma striker Antonio Cassano believes the team is still struggling under Jose Mourinho.

Cassano was reacting to Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Genoa.

He said on Bobo TV: “Roma are playing badly and I don’t want to use excuses linked to incidents or anything else. Against Genoa you have to win because you’re stronger. Of those in the top half of the table I think the Giallorossi are the biggest disappointment.

“After the first few months with a very good football proposal, the candle has gone out. And I don’t know if it’s down to the 6-1 win over Bodo or the players or something else. For sure Mourinho needs to be given more time, but today the team is suffering, struggling and has no tactical idea.

“I don’t think Mourinho has yet managed to provide the stability the team needs.”

  • Mourinho convinced me about Roma – Tammy Abraham

Mourinho convinced me about Roma – Tammy Abraham

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has explained his decision to join Roma.

Abraham, two Serie A games into his Roma career, was presented to the local media this morning.

Asked about Roma coach Jose Mourinho, Abraham said, “In the last year at Chelsea I have played less than I hoped for. It was important to talk to Mourinho.

“I want to say that I am not here only for Josè, his presence was important but I have always followed Roma. I had the privilege of sharing the dressing room at Chelsea with Palmieri and Rudiger and above all Toni spoke very well about Roma. Mourinho is also a winner and has characteristics in which I find myself.”

Asked about challenging for trophies this season, he continued: “It’s a good question, I talked to Mourinho and Tiago Pinto explained the club’s ambition to me. I arrived at Roma not only to score goals, but above all to win trophies and we hope to be able to do so already this year. The Conference is a complicated trophy, but we will try.

“Watching the Italian teams play you realise that it is tactical football, the teams defend well. They are always well placed on the pitch. In the Premier League there are the big teams that always dominate when they play against the small ones, in Italy there is more balance. Here they are all good and prepared.”

  • Difficult to play under Jose Mourinho – Rashford

Difficult to play under Jose Mourinho – Rashford

Marcus Rashford has admitted that it was difficult for him to play his best football under former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

Rashford burst onto the senior stage at United when Louis van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford in 2016, before having to adjust to life under a new boss after the Dutchman’s sacking at the end of that season.

Mourinho handed the England international a prominent role in his set-up after moving into the dugout, but he wasn’t able to deliver the goods in the final third on a consistent basis during the Portuguese’s two-and-a-half-year reign, which he puts down to being stifled from a creative standpoint.

Quizzed on whether Mourinho allowed his players to express themselves freely going forward, Rashford told BT Sport: “I think that’s when we play our best football (when we can be flexible).

“Under Jose I would say everything was a bit (points) ‘you play there, you play there, you play there’.

“And yeah, you can do a job, but it was difficult for me to play my best football.”

Rashford’s old team-mate Wayne Rooney also weighed in on Mourinho’s rigid matchday planning, recalling the time he was benched in favour of his fellow countryman for United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in 2017-18.

“I remember a Chelsea game, I was on the bench. Marcus kept me out the team!” the Red Devils legend added on Rio Ferdinand’s Between the Lines show. “I remember he (Jose) played a back SIX.

“And I remember thinking, ‘Jose’s put Marcus up top on his own. Unless he runs in behind, Chelsea and David Luiz, with all that experience, if he comes to feet we’re in trouble.’”

Tottenham send warning to Jose Mourinho

Tottenham have relayed a warning to new Roma coach Jose Mourinho.

The Mirror says Spurs have told former manager Mourinho he will not be able to sign Eric Dier or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg next season at Roma.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham last month but it took just 15 days for the boss to get a new job.

It was rumoured Dier and Hojbjerg were at the top of his list, alongside Manchester United’s Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

But Spurs will not consider offers from Roma for their midfield pair.

BREAKING: Jose Mourinho gets new club

Jose Mourinho takes no time longer and has bagged a new job with an Italian professional football club.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Jose Mourinho has secured contract with AS Roma.

AS Roma expressed delight to announce the agreement reached with Jose Mourinho to become the club’s new head coach.

Mourinho has agreed a three-year contract with the Giallorossi that will run until 30 June 2024.

He will begin his new role ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

“We are thrilled and delighted to welcome José Mourinho into the AS Roma family,” club president Dan Friedkin and vice-president Ryan Friedkin said.

“A great champion who has won trophies at every level, José will provide tremendous leadership and experience to our ambitious project.

“The appointment of José is a huge step in building a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the club.”

Mourinho, 58, is one of the most successful coaches in the history of the sport – having won 25 major trophies in his career to date.

The list of clubs he has previously managed includes FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

“Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision,” Mourinho said.

“After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma. It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.

“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season.

“In the meantime, I wish Paulo Fonseca all the best and I hope the media appreciate that I will only speak further in due course. Daje Roma!”

Mourinho is one of only three managers to date to have won the UEFA Champions League with two different clubs, a feat he has also repeated in the UEFA Europa League.

He is a three-time winner of the Premier League (with Chelsea in 2005, 2006 and 2015), while he has also won top-flight titles in Italy, Spain and Portugal.

“When José became available, we immediately jumped at the chance to speak with one of the greatest managers of all time,” said Tiago Pinto, Roma’s General Manager (Football).

“We were blown away by José’s desire to win and his passion for the game: no matter how many trophies he has won, his primary focus is always on the next one. He possesses the knowledge, experience and leadership to compete at all levels.

“We know that in order to build a successful sporting project it takes time, patience and the right people in the right positions. We are supremely confident that José will be the perfect coach for our project, for both our immediate and long-term future.

“Together with the vision and ambition of Dan and Ryan Friedkin, we will build the foundations of a new AS Roma.”

Axed Tottenham manager on Real Madrid shortlist

Axed Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is being linked with a return to Real Madrid.

Mourinho was axed on Monday on the eve of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City this week.

Real president Florentino Perez remains a fan of Mourinho and maintains regular contact.

And with doubts over Zinedine Zidane fulfilling the final year of his Real contract, the Athletic reports Florentino has Mourinho on top of his shortlist of replacements.

Just Monday, Florentino said: “Zidane is the best coach we have ever had. He’s a legend. He has a personality that is almost like mine, he can’t stand press conferences. He doesn’t say anything, he’s happy… As he says, you never know. He has a contract in force.”

  • BREAKING: Tottenham sack Jose Mourinho as manager

BREAKING: Tottenham sack Jose Mourinho as manager

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham after just 17 months in charge.

The announcement comes just hours after the Premier League club announced its plans to join a European Super League.

The 58-year-old had been in charge of Spurs since November 2019 after taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.

The Portuguese manager’s original deal with the north London club had been due to run until the end of the 2023 season.

His departure comes with Spurs in seventh position in the table and five points away from the places needed for Champions League qualification. In their last match on Friday, Spurs drew 2-2 with Everton.

It also comes just days before Spurs meet Manchester City in the final of the League Cup at Wembley.

When Mourinho took charge at Spurs, the club was 14th in the league table – but he led them to sixth to secure Europa League qualification.

Spurs are among 12 clubs to have rocked the world of football by announcing the formation of a breakaway European Super League.

  • Pressure like Oxygen to me – Jose Mourinho

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho says he lives and breathes for pressure.

The Portuguese’s future at Spurs has come under scrutiny, with a run of five defeats in six Premier League games leaving them ninth in the table.

Mourinho said the last time he “felt in trouble” was when he was out of work for almost a year before taking the Spurs job in November 2019.

“The problem is if you don’t have pressure,” he said. “It comes like oxygen, it is our life.”

Talking before Sunday’s home game against Burnley, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss added: “I don’t think there is any coach in the world without objectives or any kind of pressure.

“You just get used to it and also used to the way the press is at the time, you just have to adapt to it.”

Spurs’ recent poor league form leaves them nine points adrift of the top four and a spot in next season’s Champions League.

They can also qualify for Europe’s premier competition by winning the Europa League this season, and face Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in the last 16.

“When you are in this competition and you get to this stage you don’t get easy clubs,” Mourinho said.

“Croatian football is Croatian football, lots of talent. It’s a football country. [It’s] not a very difficult flight, not too far, I feel very positive things but the most important thing is that we get to the quarter-finals.”
