Jose Mourinho refuses to criticise Bale

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho had nothing negative to say about Gareth Bale after his side’s defeat at Brighton in the Premier League.

Spurs came into the game on the back of a loss against Liverpool at home, and needed points to keep up in the top four race.

But they were dealt another blow, being dominated in the game and losing 1-0.

Bale started in place of the injured Harry Kane, but made no contribution to the game.

Asked why Bale struggled, Mourinho responded to reporters: “I am not going to individualise the performance.

“We tried in the first half to give the team similar dynamic as we have hen Harry is playing.

“We felt to connect with Son, the way we work all the time in the sense of Harry, we tried to do that with Gareth coming in side with his left foot vision.

“We tried to give that with Bergwijn too but the team was not good in the first half. In the second half we improved very much.”

Let’s be real, Alli is unhappy – Mourinho

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho admits Dele Alli is unhappy after being left on the bench for their 2-0 Europa League win over Royal Antwerp.

Alli disappeared down the tunnel during the game, though did return to the bench in his non-playing kit and was the only unused substitute not to take part in a post-match warm-down.

Mourinho also said Alli had his blessing to go to the dressing room but added: “Yep, but let’s not run away from the reality.

“A player that is on the bench and then realises that he’s not one of the five players (coming on) of course is not a happy player, and I wouldn’t expect him to be happy.

“But every player that is on the bench or every player that leaves the pitch in cold weather, with me, they can go to the dressing room and I even prefer if that happens.”

Mourinho convinced me to choose Man Utd over City – Bailly

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly remains in contact with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho signed Bailly as United manager, taking the Ivorian from Villarreal in his first season in charge at Old Trafford.

Bailly recalled to Mundo Deportivo: “I still talk to Mourinho. Sometimes he has called me when I have been injured, I consider him a good friend. Not everyone remembers you when you change clubs, and he has always been there in difficult moments. He tells me that the club believes in my abilities and that I have to die on the pitch.

“In the summer of 2016 there were many rumours. I was in the Ivory Coast, in the dining room at home with my mother when the phone rang. It was a Portuguese number: Mourinho. He told me to go with him, that he liked me since he saw me with Espanyol and Villarreal. And he explained to me that I was going to be important at Old Trafford. (Manchester) City were also interested, but if Mourinho calls you, you can’t say no.

“You can’t say no to Barça either. It simply did not happen because the interest was not public or as explicit as that of other clubs.”

Asked about Mourinho’s sacking, Bailly added: “I can’t get too into that question, but I tend to look at the good stuff. And the titles that I have won with United were with Mourinho on the bench.”

  • Why Jorge Jesus is better than Jose Mourinho

Why Jorge Jesus is better than Jose Mourinho

Former Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has declared Benfica manager Jorge Jesus as superior to Tottenham coach Jose Mourinho.

Cesar who played for both managers during his career.

He said: “Jorge Jesus. Even if it was only at the end of my career. I really like his work, he is a different coach. But obviously not belittling others. Mourinho was the culmination of my career. By coincidence, two Portuguese.

“It was a very victorious with him (Mourinho) at Inter. He was hired to win the Champions League, it was an obsession of the president and he was very respected in the competition. But between Mourinho and Jesus, I keep three fingers up for Jesus.

“It is the way he makes the player understand the game. Tactically, he is absurd. He breathes that 24 hours a day. He has a phrase that marked me: ‘play the ball everyone plays, but understanding the game few understand’. When I arrived at Benfica, I learned a lot, things I would never have imagined learning at 34, finishing my career.”

Andre Schurrle narrates how ‘brutal’ Mourinho killed his confidence

Former Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle has tagged Jose Mourinho “a brutal guy” and narrates how the Spurs tactician approach to coaching destroyed his confidence while at Stamford Bridge.

Schurrle, who provided the assist for Mario Gotze’s World Cup-winning goal in 2014, joined the Blues in 2013 but lasted only two years in London.

Despite his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting attackers, talent mattered for little under Mourinho as the tactician’s efforts to draw the best out of his new acquisition ended up having the opposite effect.

“He’s a brutal guy,” Schurrle said in a YouTube interview with German presenter Joko Winterscheidt. “I always thought to myself: What does he do anyway? Why does he treat me like this? Why does he do this to people?

“In retrospect, I realise what he wanted and what resources he was working with. At the time, I couldn’t really deal with the things he wanted from me because of all the harshness and the psychological pressure.

“Back then, it was extremely difficult. I would often drive home after conversations with him and just thought I couldn’t do it anymore. What could I do? He was building up such extreme pressure.”

Although Schurrle had the feeling that Mourinho “liked” him and wanted to “push” his career forward, the ex-forward added: “He still put a few things into my head that were difficult to process.”

Tottenham humiliation: Today is my worst day as Man Utd manager, player – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says their 6-1 hammering at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL) on Sunday is his worst day at the club.

It was Manchester United’s joint worst loss in the Premier League era —- equalling their 6-1 defeat by Manchester City in 2011.

“It’s a horrible feeling, the worst day I’ve had as a Manchester United manager and player,” said the Norwegian after his side, reduced to 10 men for the last hour, were ripped apart by Jose Mourinho’s Spurs.

“I’ve been part of big defeats before and we’ve bounced back.

“So, we’ve just got to let the boys go away on international duty, find their mojo themselves and the others that are going to stay here, we’ve got to help them.

“After a result like this, you need to clear your mind and head and look forward,” said Solskjaer.

The defeat, coming before Monday’s transfer deadline, is sure to spark even more criticism of Manchester United’s failure to significantly strengthen Solskjaer’s squad during the summer window.

Solskjaer was a member of the Manchester United squad which won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup under Alex Ferguson in 1999.

But he said he was not going to use the situation to shield himself from criticism.

“If it’s a different shape, mentality, I don’t know, but it will be different. We can’t accept performances like this.

“I hold my hands up, I’m in charge and I’m responsible for this,” he said.

Manchester United’s defending was shambolic as they trailed 4-1 at the break.

“Sometimes you make mistakes. That’s part of life and we made too many mistakes in one game of football and that shows in the result against a very good football team,” Solskjaer said.

“They are a team full of quality and we got punished almost every time we made a mistake.”

Mourinho blames Newcastle goalkeeper for Tottenham’s draw

Tottenham failed to win their third match of the season against Newcastle after Callum Wilson snatched a late point for the visitors from the penalty spot.

However, Jose Mourinho said his team played very well but failed to win because of Newcastle’s goalkeeper’s exceptional performance.

He said the match ought to have ended three or four-nil but Darlow’s fantastic performance denied them the win.

“I think about my team’s performance – very good, very good especially in the first half. It should have been three or four-nil but Darlow was fantastic. I think Newcastle did their job as best they could – I think at half-time Steve Bruce was happy to be only 1-0 down, he knows football and they got their point, he said.

Tottenham got their lead in the match in the 25th minute, from a Lucas Moura strike.

The match remained stale until the 90th minute when a penalty was awarded to the Magpies which Callum Wilson brilliantly converted.

A Tottenham coach Nuno Santos who protested the call, earned an instant red card from referee Peter Bankes.

Madrid pals warn Mourinho against Bale move, but…

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has been warned off signing Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale.

Mourinho has been told by his former Real colleagues that Bale will struggle at Tottenham, reports ESPN.

The report claims that Mourinho, who was in charge of Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, has been told in talks that the 31-year-old will find it hard to meet the demands of the English top flight.

However the Portuguese boss has given the green light for Bale’s return despite the concerns raised.

Bale has fallen out of favour under Real manager Zinedine Zidane and injury setbacks have impacted his fitness levels in recent seasons.

The Daily Mail says Real Madrid will pay more than half of Bale’s £500,000-per-week wages to facilitate the deal to Tottenham.

  • I wouldn’t sign Messi – Mourinho

    I wouldn’t sign Messi – Mourinho

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho admits they had no chance of challenging for Barcelona captain Leo Messi before his decision to stay.

Manchester City were strongly linked with Messi and, having narrowly avoided punishment for Financial Fair Play in recent months, Mourinho saw the opportunity to take a dig at Pep Guardiola’s side.

“[Would I sign Messi] for my Top Eleven team? No, not for Tottenham. Just for Top Eleven,” Mourinho told Joe.co.uk in a promotional video for Top Eleven.

“We respect Financial Fair Play at Tottenham.

“He can only go to a team that doesn’t respect Financial Fair Play, so it’s not Tottenham, for sure.”
