2023: Labour Party denies being broke

The Labour Party (LP) has again denied reports that the party is broke and unable to finance campaigns for the 2023 presidential bid of Peter Obi.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi clarified that the party is doing well, and has financial provisions to fund campaigns.

Arabambi, however, maintained that the party is not interested in vote buying, adding that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, was quoted out of context in his speech regarding the financial situation of the party.

He said in a chat with Leadership: “Our national chairman was quoted out of context. We are not broke. We are forging ahead. We are doing well. We have our money to plan for our campaigns; we don’t have money to buy votes. We are prepared for politics,”

Arabambi added that the party is not out to bribe voters, and engage in meaningless jamborees but will execute credible campaigns.

He said: “At least, we need money to prepare for our security and campaigns. Aside from that, we don’t have money for jamboree. Everyone is involved in our rally.

“We are fully ready. Our presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, is ready. Our party, the Labor Party, is ready, but we don’t have money for bribery. We are very rich. And we are going to emerge victorious.”

Campaign council list: Labour Party succumbs to pressure, delists Wabba, Osifo

Labour Party (LP) says it is set to release a supplementary list for its Campaign Council, saying that Ayuba Wabba and  Festus Osifo were erroneously included.

The party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, made this known in a communique he read at the end of the Expanded National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of Labour Party in Abuja.

According to Abure, the party’s expanded NWC meeting met to review its political activities in recent time and made some  resolutions.

He said that the Presidents of NLC and TUC were removed from the campaign council because they were erroneously included.

“It is in the strength of the above that the Presidential Campaign Council has been dully announced with representation across all states, tribes and faith.

“Labour Party hereby announces the endorsement of the Campaign Council; however, we acknowledge some omissions and misplacement of some names in the Council.

“This will be corrected and a supplementary list released before the inauguration of the Council.

“Also corrected is the erroneous  inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress members in the Campaign list.”

The expanded NWC reaffirmed that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, was a diligent administrator whose expertise was felt by every member of the party.

The NWC, therefore, urged him to continue with the good work of leading the party to victory come 2023.

According  to him, Labour Party is fully ready to to put all parameters in place to prosecute the election in 2023.

“As of moment, we are consolidating the momentum that will help us establish a new Nigeria come May 29, 2023.

“We also further make it clear that Labour Party enjoys a robust relationship with the new Campaign Council.”

Abure reiterated the party’s commitment to gender, youth and social inclusion in all facets of its operations.

He added that the NWC in session condemned, in strong terms, the incessant attack on Labour Party members and supporters during peaceful solidarity marches.

This, he said, occurred in Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Enugu, Ebonyi and Katsina where thugs of other political parties and some nefarious elements of the Ebubeagu vigilante in Imo State and Ebonyi attacked LP members.

Abure said it was  surprising that the perpetrators of the shameful and inhuman act were yet to be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.

He said that NWC in session, therefore, called on the Federal Government and law enforcement agencies to, as a matter of duty, fish out the hoodlums and get them prosecuted.

He thanked the  Independent National Commission (INEC) for modalities put in place so far to ensure free and fair election in the country.

He, however, urged INEC to facilitate the timely printing and distribution of PVCs to enable Nigerians vote the candidates of their choice.

The party also called on citizens to collect their PVCs and come out to vote during elections.

Abure thanked all the party’s support groups and encouraged them to continue with the good intention for Labour Party and Peter Obi’s candidacy.

2023: Labour Party says it’s the only credible option for national salvation

Labour Party says the masses of Nigeria are the structure of the party for the 2023 general elections.

This is contained in a communique jointly signed by Julius Abure, the National Chairman, and the National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim issued at the end of the party’s National Leadership Retreat in Abuja on Friday.

According to the party, Nigeria is at a crossroads and Labour Party is the only credible option for national salvation.

It said that the party held the retreat to discuss crucial party matters, observations, proposals and relevant resolutions ahead of 2023.

The communiqué said that the retreat was not only important but very critical for Labour Party in its resolve to deliver Nigeria as Nigerians were set to take back their country for the purpose of national rebirth.

“Across all regions and segments, the people are committed to break loose from the old order and ready to embrace a prospering one with the Labour Party as the platform of convergence and common vehicle for achieving it.

“The dispossessed and exploited people and masses of Nigeria are the structure of the party and should, therefore, be the focal point of the ongoing struggle of the party to rescue Nigeria.

“Labour Party shall urgently build synergy and rally all Nigerians to rescue Nigeria, especially with the wide spread support Labour Party enjoys from the youth, women, Nigerian workers, labour and trade unions, and several voluntary support groups.’’

The communiqué said these groups were determined to join hands with the party to take over political power in Nigeria.

The communiqué stressed the need for the party to seize the opportunity to rally Nigerians to take over power, which was already lying on the streets of Nigeria.

“It is important to have an appraisal of the current state of Nigeria and highlight the inherent problems.

“This is so that Labour Party Leaders, stakeholders and candidates can engage and visit all support groups and stakeholders, including all NLC and TUC offices, women and youth organisations, and support groups, among others.’’

The party said the aim was to ensure that a well distilled message of the party was taken down to the grassroots ahead of the 2023 elections.

Also speaking, Abure said that the ideas generated from the retreat would be of immense importance to Labour Party toward forging a cohesive front.

He said the party would mobilise Nigerians to reject all primordial sentiments, and be united in voting Labour Party candidates that would work for the progress, transformation and prosperity of Nigeria.

Abure said the party also resolved its leaders and stakeholders would be active in the process of rescuing Nigeria by pushing a new message of hope and national prosperity that would forever change how politics was played in Nigeria.

The chairman said that the party would enthrone a government that was egalitarian and inclusive, which would make Chapter two of the Nigerian Constitution justiciable.

He said the party would make the Nigerian Workers’ Charter of Demands the driving agenda of the Labour Party Campaign for the 2023 elections.

According to him, this will be implemented by Labour Party Government on short, medium and long term bases, to redefine Nigeria and put it on the path of positive development.

He said the party would also invest in human capital development, especially the teaming youth populace through effective and functioning quality education by ensuring the revival of Nigeria’s decadent education sector.

Abure said the party would put strategies in place for economic prosperity, political cohesion and national security in the light of the insecurity and sharp division in Nigeria.

The national chairman also said the party would commit to comprehensive military reform, state and other security architectural reforms to ensure effective internal security and stability of Nigeria.

“All campaign messages of the party, including its logo and slogan will be translated into local languages and dialects for wider political education of citizens at the grassroots because politics is local.

“The party will cascade and replicate its leadership retreat in the 36 states and the FCT, as well as the 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.

“This is in a bid to foster the required synergy and understanding among Labour Party leaders and stakeholders, especially at the grassroots in embracing the peculiarity of every constituency in Nigeria’’.

He said that in moving the campaign process forward, ahead of the 2023 elections, the retreat constituted major national committees.

They are: Committee to produce Labour Party Campaign Policy document and the Presidential Campaign Planning and Strategy Committee.

  • 2023: LP set to announce substantive running mate for Peter Obi

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party (LP) has said all is set to announce a substantive running mate for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure made this known on Tuesday, disclosing that the announcement of a substantive running mate for Obi would be made on July 15.

Abure also disclosed that the proposed alliance between his party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has completely collapsed.

Describing the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso as selfish, he stated that a northern Muslim will be announced as Peter Obi’s running mate.

Abure made the disclosure while speaking during an interview on the 2023 presidency on Africa Independent Television’s current affairs programme, Focus Nigeria.

Reacting to the statement by Kwankwaso about the impossibility of power to shift to the south, Abure said: “We should be able to manage our diversity and bring all Nigerians together. That is a reasonable thing to do. It is not for him to say, it is the people that will decide.

“Democracy is for the people. The people will decide who will become president in 2023. I want to state clearly that his (Kwankwaso) point of view is parochial and selfish, it does not reflect the aspirations of northern Nigeria.

“In another eight months, we will have the elections. The activities that will crystalize in that election will shock you. Just be patient, let us announce our vice-presidential candidate from the north.

“Northerners are embracing Labour Party. We are expanding in the north and the south. We will get to the stage where a Hausa man and an Igbo man will see themselves as Nigerians. With pragmatic leadership, Nigerians will be detribalized.”

On the choice of a running mate for the party’s flag bearer, Obi, the LP chairman stated that the decision will be followed meticulously by carrying the supporters along even though it is the constitutional right of the presidential candidate.

“The decision of running mate will be made judiciously in the best interest of Nigerians,” he said.
