EPL: Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp reveals why he hasn’t been sacked

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has stated reasons why the club management has not sacked him despite Liverpool’s recent poor run of form.

According to Klopp,  he is yet to lose his job because of his past achievements with the Premier League club, not their form this season.

Klopp was reacting to the sackings of Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers at Chelsea and Leicester respectively on Sunday.

Liverpool will play its outstanding game with Chelsea who have also sacked its manager Graham Potter on Tuesday night at Anfield.

Since thrashing Manchester United 7-0 Liverpool have lost two premier league games against Bournemouth and Manchester City.

Despite Liverpool sitting eighth on the table, Klopp knows fully well he could have been sacked too.

“I’m aware of the fact I’m sitting here because of the past, not because of what we did this season,” Klopp said.

“If this was my first season, that would be slightly different. We have smart owners who know about the situation, but that doesn’t mean anything else.”

“The second half the start was pretty good and the end was pretty good. That is football, it can happen.

“It was the push we wanted. It puts us in the right direction. Everyone has to know we are still around. It wasn’t the case for a while but tonight was a proper show of what we can be and what we have to be from now on.”

Liverpool have now climbed up to fifth with 42 points from 25 fixtures.

Liverpool climbed to the fifth position on the log after the 7-0 thumping of the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp lays out his retirement plan

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe he’ll be working in management when he’s 70.

Currently 55 years old, the German is still some way of this number and cannot see himself still being involved in the game by the time he reaches this point in life.

Klopp, who joined the Reds in 2015, has opened up on why this is the case when speaking on Michael Calvin’s Football People Podcast.

“The job is incredibly demanding, it is, but it’s great as well,” he said. “That’s why I say when Roy Hodgson came back again to Crystal Palace and I ask him ‘why go out again?’ and he said ‘I love it’.

“I cannot see myself being 70 and being on the dugout in whatever weather and training for one or two hours. I can’t see that but I understand a little bit where they are coming from. I hope then that other things are that interesting to me and I am really fine with not being involved anymore.”

  • EPL: 3-0 loss to Brighton worst performance ever – Klopp

EPL: 3-0 loss to Brighton worst performance ever – Klopp

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has expressed disappointment in his side’s 3-0 bashing in the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Klopp has now described the defeat as Liverpool’s worst game ever under his watch.

After playing out a goalless draw in the first half of the encounter, Winger Solly March scored twice and created a third for Brighton upon resumption in the second half.

The third goal was scored by former Manchester United forward, Danny Welbeck.

“Massively frustrated. Congratulations to Brighton on a super game against a bad opponent. We were not good today, I can’t remember a good phase or period,” an irate Klopp said.

“Doing better than today should be easy, because this is a really low point. I can’t remember a worse game,” he added.

In spite of losing 1-3 to Brentford in their last Premier League game on Jan. 2, Klopp said that he had been confident coming in to Saturday’s game.

He said he was confident that his side could get a much-needed win.

“There was no sign for this performance before the game. But that’s probably how it is sometimes. There’s nothing that I thought yesterday (Friday) or this (Saturday) morning that this could happen.”

Liverpool’s campaign has been derailed by poor performances and injuries to key players.

Team captain Virgil van Dijk is missing due to a hamstring strain, while recent signing Cody Gakpo started upfront due to the absence of Darwin Nunez.

As a result, the Reds struggled to maintain possession and Brighton were able to make the most of the chances they were offered.

“In these moments we passed from the last line upfront, and then when we want to push up the ball was already gone again. So, that’s why it’s just counter (attacks) from their side and it always look horrible,” Klopp said.

Liverpool are eighth in the table on 28 points, seven behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, who currently occupy the last Champions League place.

Continuing, Klopp said that Gakpo has really impressed him in training and can’t wait to unleash him against Wolves in Saturday’s FA cup on Saturday.

The prolific forward joined the Reds last week, with Klopp’s side beating the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea to his signature.

“Yes, he is in contention. He will be involved in the squad, of course,’ Klopp told his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“He is obviously full of joy, He is a good finisher and a good dribbler. He’s a good footballer

“First impressions of him are brilliant,” the German gaffer said of the former PSV star, adding that the Dutchman is a natural footballer.

According to Klopp, Gakpo is a top goalscorer who does not need to raise his head to know where the net is.

He said the signing of the World Cup star will lift other players at Anfield.

After crashing out of the Carabao cup, Liverpool look to progress in the FA cup as they battle Wolves Football at Anfield.

Klopp has now assured that New signing Gakpo will play a part in the game.

UCL: Klopp tips Napoli to reach Champions League final

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has predicted that Italian clubside, Napoli will reach the final of the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Liverpool gaffer, added that the Club from Naples are doing exceedingly well this season, saying they are a club to beat.

The German spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League group stage match-day six tie with Napoli on Tuesday night at Anfield.

“It is a pretty quick turnaround since Leeds, so I am not fully aware of the situation with the players,” said Klopp.

“It’s not a game for rotation, probably. We want to win the game, but the result at the moment is not really important.

“I have to make the lineup later today, maybe tomorrow morning, and we will go from there.

“Yes, if they continue to play like this, they can go to the final. They are the in-form team in Europe.

“Did they copy our style? No, [their manager Luciano] Spalletti is a very experienced coach.”

EPL: Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool – Sherwood

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood says Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of this season.

Sherwood claims Klopp has taken the club as far as he can and will leave Anfield in the summer.

“The problem Liverpool have got is this team is used to challenging for titles,” he said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show. “It’s gone for them this season, they’re not going to win the Premier League, so where’s the motivation and drive from the players?

“The club will say they cannot be out of the Champions League, but it can be tough for players when they’ve challenged for titles, and all of a sudden it’s taken away from them. I think it’s very difficult for them.

“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is there next season. I think there’s a conversation to be had. I’m not sure Jurgen picks them up from where they are and makes them challengers again, I really don’t. History says he doesn’t do that. He’s very good and drives teams all the way. But it’s going to be a fight to get in the top-four now. If they miss out on the top four it’s a rebuild, a total rebuild.

“I don’t think they’ll sack him, but there will be a conversation where both parties agree that Jurgen has taken them as far as he can and they go for a new challenge. That’s just my hunch when I look at him and the team.”

  • Why we lost to Nottingham Forest – Liverpool manager, Klopp

Why we lost to Nottingham Forest – Liverpool manager, Klopp

Club manager Jurgen Klopp insisted on Saturday that Liverpool only have themselves to blame after a shock defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s winner stunned the visitors as Nottingham Forest climbed off the bottom of the 2022/2023 English Premier League (EPL) with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

The striker never played for Liverpool in six years at Anfield and was loaned out seven times before joining Union Berlin last year.

Liverpool remain seventh having failed to build on last week’s 1-0 win over Manchester City and are yet to win away in the league this season.

“Who can be blamed for not finishing the situations off? There are not a lot of people out there, it’s just us,” said Klopp, who was without Thiago after he woke up with an ear infection.

“That’s why you have to feel it. It’s a big blow for us because we wanted to get the three points.

“I can’t explain the result, not really. This game was decided in six or seven situations, the set-pieces they used and the set-pieces we didn’t use. It was a difficult game.

“They are not in a great situation and it was a super intense week for us, we had to change (the team) late. We had to put in a big fight and the boys did.

“It was intense, six days, three games and a limited squad. I really thought we made a real fight of it.

“We were lacking runs in behind, vision in the centre and we didn’t create that much.”

Nottingham Forest’s forward Jesse Lingard shot at goalkeeper Alisson.

Also, defender Virgil van Dijk wasted Liverpool’s best chance of an instantly forgettable first half when he tried to tee up Roberto Firmino.

The hosts would have been the happier having maintained their shape and work rate to frustrate Liverpool and they grabbed the winner 10 minutes into the second half.

It came from a free-kick when Awoniyi was fouled having robbed Joe Gomez and Morgan Gibbs-White’s delivery found Steve Cook.

The defender’s cross was turned against the post by Ryan Yates and Awoniyi followed up from close range.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved Harvey Elliott’s effort as Liverpool responded before James Milner deflected Gibbs-White’s strike over as the game came to life.

Alisson denied Brennan Johnson —- who hit the post with the last kick of the game —- before brilliantly saving from Yates.

Also, Henderson produced a superb stop in injury time to keep out Van Dijk’s header.

Afterwards, Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper said: “It’s a brilliant win. To get a win against Liverpool you have to play well and have big moments.

“We’ve been on a poor run but it’s a great win. We still haven’t got the points tally we would have hoped to have by now.

“Hopefully it’s the start of a turn and we’re in control of that.

“It’s a positive result we needed. It’s only a win, we’re nowhere near the league position we want to be in but it’s given us a good reference point.

“We don’t just want it to be words.

“Going forward, if the players or I may have any doubts with ourselves and each other, we can use today to show we belong at this level.

“It was an improvement. The mentality has to be to get back into the training ground and work even harder. Any sign of complacency we’ll be right on it.”

  • Liverpool vs Man City: Klopp admits he deserved red card

Liverpool vs Man City: Klopp admits he deserved red card

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp accepted he “went over the top” and “lost it” and fully deserved his red card in his side’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

The Reds manager was furious referee Anthony Taylor had not given a foul on goalscorer Mohamed Salah by Bernardo Silva late in the game.

But his anger, also directed at the assistant referee just metres from the incident, saw him dismissed from the touchline.

Anfield’s technical area had been a fiery place, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola apoplectic that Phil Foden’s earlier goal had been overturned by Taylor.

That was after VAR had advised the referee to view the pitchside monitor for an Erling Haaland foul on Fabinho in the build-up.

What Klopp said to the officials remains unclear but it was enough to see him instantly dismissed.

“The red card was my fault. I went over the top in the moment, but I don’t think I was disrespectful to anyone,” said the German.

“When you look at the pictures back, I know myself at 55 years old the way I look in these moments, (it) is already worth a red card.

“I lost it in that moment and that is not OK, but (there is) a little bit of an excuse. I will like to mention how can you not whistle that foul? How on earth is that possible?”

Taylor had allowed the players something of a free rein in the game as he tried to play advantage as often as he could.

But occasionally that was the wrong decision in a high-tempo, high stakes game.

“I heard now that people said it was Anfield that made the VAR decision,” added Klopp.

“With a foul on Mo, Anfield had no chance to make any impact. It’s a foul on Fabinho (in the lead-up to Foden’s goal), I think we agree on that. Is it not enough, to pull somebody down?

“Then Ali (goalkeeper Alisson Becker) has the hand on the ball (before Haaland frees it).

“So there was already the first moment where Pep and I were pretty animated but actually for the same reason to be 100 percent honest.

“We were not arguing with each other, not at all. Then that situation (with Salah) I just had the perfect view and the linesman, and you can imagine we are 1-0 up and we have a free-kick there or a counter-attack there.

“That is pretty much a 100 percent difference and that was when I snapped and again I am not proud of that, but it happened.”

  • EPL: Klopp advised to drop Salah from Liverpool’s starting XI

EPL: Klopp advised to drop Salah from Liverpool’s starting XI

Liverpool gaffer, Jurgen Klopp has been advised to drop Mohammed Salah from the club’s starting XI at least for now.

This advice was given by former club’s legend John Aldridge on Tuesday.

Salah, who netted 31 goals across all competitions for Liverpool last season, has been a shadow of his usual self so far this season.

The Egyptian captain has scored just five goals and provided four assists in 12 appearances across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

This is by far below Salah”s standard for many seasons.

In his column for Liverpool Echo, Aldridge wants Salah to be left out of the first team because he is not doing himself or the team justice.

“I am one of Mo Salah’s biggest fans, but he needs to be dropped. He needs to be left out because he is not doing himself justice, and he is not doing the team justice.

“It doesn’t matter whether you are Mo Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. At that stage, you have got to be left out for your own good.”

He added, “Whether Klopp can actually do that now that Diaz is injured, I don’t know. Mo’s not the only one, don’t get me wrong. There are so many players below form and they have been for a while.

“The manager’s trying to get them to play through it. He is very loyal, but he doesn’t really have many alternatives.”
