EPL: Jurgen Klopp attacks center referee, Michael Oliver

Liverpool gaffer, Jurgen Klopp has attacked match officials in charge of Arsenal versus Liverpool match at over the weekend, accusing them of being biased.

Recall that center referee, Michael Oliver ignored a call for Liverpool in the first half of the encounter when Arsenal’s defender, Gabriel Magalhaes handled the ball in the penalty area.

The German tactician was unhappy with the officiating in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat against the Gunners at the Emirates on Sunday.

He feels Arsenal’s winning penalty was soft and should not have been awarded.

Gabriel Martinelli sent Arsenal ahead after 58 seconds of play, but Liverpool came back through Darwin Nunez.

Bukayo Saka put the home team ahead again in the dying minute of the first half to put scores at 2-1

Liverpool’s Firminio equalized in the second half to put scores at 2-2.

Saka then scored what turned out the decider from a spot-kick to give the home side all three points after Thiago was adjudged to have kicked Gabriel Jesus in the box but the replay shows it was a minimal contract.

Before then Liverpool were denied a penalty of their own for what looked like a clear handball from Gabriel .

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, the German coach said: “It was an open game, it could have gone in either direction, and then this situation around the penalty.

“And then I think if it’s a penalty, it’s a very, very soft one.

“Like the whole situation, when you see the contact, I don’t even know if there is really contact.

“When Gabriel Jesus is going down there is like a bit of a delay, so it was not ‘band’ and straight down.

“But [the VAR] Mr England thought it was not worth sending the ref to the screen. We cannot change that.

‘He saw that slightly differently in the first half when obviously Diogo [Jota] wanted to cross the ball – not the hardest cross obviously – and Gabriel’s hand was not in a natural position, I would say.”

EPL: Klopp heapes praises on two Liverpool’s youngsters after 2-1 win against Newcastle

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has heaped praises on two young players in the team following a controversial win over Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool gaffer said Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho were the two game changers in the match.

Klopp named youngster, Harvey Elliott as ‘the best player on the pitch during the dramatic victory.

The referee added 5 minutes of stoppage time but didn’t end the match until the 99th minute of the crunchy encounter.

The Red looked set to drop at least two points at home to Newcastle after new £60m striker Alexander Isak put the visitors ahead shortly before half-time.

But Roberto Firmino scored his third goal of the season to equalize at Anfield and Fabio Carvalho’s 98th-minute effort gave the home side all three points.

“This is the best way to win a football game. I think that we scored after 90+8 is the perfect response. I’m really happy about that,” Klopp told reporters after the match.

On Elliott and Carvalho, Klopp added: “Harvey was the best player on the pitch, without a shadow of a doubt. It was nice to see him pick up from where he was before the bad injury.

“Fabio, what a boy. What a player. I am pretty sure he will want to have that feeling more often and I am pretty sure if he keeps working, he will have it more.”

Jurgen Klopp slams Agbonlahor after Man Utd criticism

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit out at Gabby Agbonlahor for criticism of Manchester United after their thrashing at Brentford.

Klopp takes Liverpool to United on Monday night.

He admitted he nearly phoned in to talkSPORT to question the pundits’ view. The Liverpool boss also referenced his side’s 6-0 win against Villa back in February 2016, a game in which Agbonlahor played almost an hour of.

“It was obviously not nice for United after the Brentford game,” Klopp said in his pre-United press conference. “We forget in these moments how good Brentford are, to be honest. I watched the first-half here then I drove home and listened to talkSPORT.

“Gabby Agbonlahor, he lost against us 6-0 in my first year (at Liverpool), I couldn’t remember him as a mentality monster on the pitch (that day). What he said about United on that show, I was close to calling in! I was to calling in and telling him you forgot completely you were a player, it was unbelievable.

“If ex players go already like this then you can imagine how everything else is going. You just have to ask yourself how you would want to react in a situation like this. They will want to fight back, that’s completely normal and it’s what we expect.”

EPL: Klopp slams new boy, Nunez for bagging embarrassing red card

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has frowned at their boy Darwin Nunez for not exhibiting good conduct in the match against Crystal Palace before being shown a red card.

Nunez was shown a straight red card over violent conduct that saw him headbutt Crystal Palace defender, Joachim Andersen.

In his post macth reaction, Klopp slammed Nunez for not showing the spirit of a good sportsman. “it is not the reaction you want to see,” from the striker.

Klopp said that the referee did not make any mistake in sending the striker out of the pitch, saying, that was highly unbecoming.

The German tactician insisted he should have done better despite being provoked by the defender.

Asked how much Nunez let his team down, Klopp said: “He knows that now himself.

“It is not the reaction you want to see. The challenge from the center-back in the Premier League, they will do that to you. He is a handful himself. That’s not the reaction.”

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in their second EPL game of the season.

Jurgen Klopp wins TV battle with Premier League chiefs

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has won his battle with the Premier League over the season’s TV schedule.

Klopp has been a vocal critic of a scheduling system which saw the country’s biggest clubs allocated a Saturday lunchtime kick-off immediately after draining midweek European road trips, reports the Daily Express.

But that will not be happening this season with any club involved in a Wednesday away fixture in the Champions League now excused from being placed in the BT Sport slot three days later. It is a bonus for Liverpool, the beaten European finalists last season.

Klopp has previously barked: “It’s just not OK.

“If we play a Champions League semi-final, if you find another league in the world and another broadcaster where they put one team who is in the semi-final on a 12.30… what? What are you doing? Why would you do that? So that’s why it’s so difficult, but nothing happens because nobody cares.

“I don’t understand it. I can understand that people want to see a football match between Liverpool and Newcastle but I don’t see why any team should have an advantage or a disadvantage. The league and the broadcaster really have to try at least to help.”

  • EPL: My players not playing to capacity – Jurgen Klopp

EPL: My players not playing to capacity – Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his side posted a below-average performance in their friendly loss to Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Liverpool have now lost two friendly pre-season games, against Manchester United and RB Salzburg, and won two against Crystal Palace and Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Klopp is not happy that his boys are not playing according to instructions.

Klopp named an inexperienced side against Salzburg, with Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah introduced at the hour mark with the Reds a goal down. The Reds were unable to find an equalizer.

The focus now shifts to Wembley, though the Liverpool boss has warned his players there is plenty to improve.

“First half we made too many mistakes, which they could use,” Klopp told the club’s official website.

“We had good moments as well, we could have scored obviously in the whole game like four or five goals at least. Didn’t do that because we were in the first half – if you want to talk about football – we were too open, we were too wide, and we were not connected enough in moments when you lose the ball.

“Then everything is open, it’s like a motorway, and with their speed, that’s how they had their chances, especially when you lose simple passes where nobody can react really.”

He added: “We played the game out of full training. We had to make a lot of changes – that’s fine, I take that. But what I can say: it’s at least average to lose a game.”

Darwin Nunez started the match but was unable to find the kind of goalscoring touch he produced against RB Leipzig when he scored four goals in a half.

Liverpool’s big-money signing has come under a lot of scrutiny in pre-season, but Klopp defended the striker for his quiet display up against the Salzburg defense.

“Darwin was much too often alone,” Klopp said. “Everybody dropped, everybody was involved in the build-up but too wide and we could only pass the ball to Darwin in the box.

“He had his moments and nearly scored, but he needs much more support around him.”

  • UCL final: Hurting Liverpool “will come again” – Klopp says as Real Madrid celebrate

UCL final: Hurting Liverpool “will come again” – Klopp says as Real Madrid celebrate

Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool’s players were hurting after their UEFA Champions League final match defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday in Paris.

But he declared the Reds “will come again” after the narrow reverse.

Klopp added next year’s final in Istanbul was already a target, advising supporters: “Book the hotel!”

A 1-0 loss to Real Madrid at the Stade de France meant Liverpool were left with FA Cup and EFL Cup triumphs.

That is what they have to show for a season in which they threatened an unprecedented quadruple.

Manchester City denied them the English Premier League (EPL) title on the competition’s dramatic final day last Sunday.

Now, it was UEFA Champions League specialists Real Madrid who toppled them on Saturday to claim their 14th European crown, with Vinicius Junior netting a second-half winner.

“Everyone in the dressing room, nobody feels it was a great season at the moment,” Klopp said after the loss. “We probably need a few minutes for that, maybe hours.”

He said two decisions had gone against Liverpool by “the smallest margin possible,” but did not specify which incidents he was referring to.

“We played a good game, not the perfect game,” Klopp added. “We had a lot of shots but not the clearest, only three or so where [Thibaut] Courtois made top saves.

“Then we conceded a goal… Vinicius was there and that was it.”

Klopp said Liverpool tried “absolutely everything” after he had told his players to “be more brave in the second half.”

Vinicius struck just before the hour mark, and Liverpool huffed and puffed.

But they were not at their best as Real Madrid repelled the threat of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, with Courtois outstanding as the last line of defence.

The Belgian made nine saves in the match, the most on record by a goalkeeper in a single UEFA Champions League final (since 2003/2004).

Klopp added he was alone among the Liverpool contingent in being able to put the game swiftly into perspective.

“It’s not hard. I have that already, but I’m the only one in the dressing room,” he said.

“I know it’s not the success you want to have, but I have the strong feeling we will come again. That’s how it is, because the boys are competitive.

“We have an outstanding group together and will have again an outstanding group next year. Then we go again. We obviously have to try a bit more often than others but no problem.

“Where’s it next year? Istanbul? Yeah, book the hotel.”

  • Liverpool’s Klopp wins LMA manager of the year award

Liverpool’s boss, Jurgen Klopp, has been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the season and won the Sir Alex Ferguson trophy for the League Managers’ Association, LMA, manager of the year.

    This was announced on Tuesday.

The Reds won both the English League Cup and FA Cup, beating Chelsea in penalty shoot-outs at Wembley on both occasions.

With 92 points, Liverpool finished as runners-up to Premier League champions Manchester City by a single point, as they went closer to winning the Quadruple than any other English side in history.

    Liverpool
Sir Alex Ferguson presented Jurgen Klopp with the League Managers Association manager of the year award.

Klopp, collecting his accolade at the LMA Awards dinner in London on Tuesday, said: “It is a great honour and it was an insane season.

“The last matchday when only two games were meaningless and in the rest, we all played for absolutely everything. It was not the best outcome for us, but we are already over it.”

Paying tribute to his team, the German added: “When you win a prize like this you are either a genius or you have the best coaching staff in the world — and I am here with all of my coaching staff, they know how much I appreciate them.”

Klopp also collected the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy, named in honour of the celebrated former Manchester United boss, which is voted for by the full membership of managers across all the divisions in English senior football.

“This being voted for by my colleagues is obviously the most important prize you can get. I don’t believe in individual prizes in football generally, it is a team sport and I would be nothing without these boys there. It is all about what we can do together and what we did together,” Klopp said.

Klopp’s men can still clinch a cup treble if they beat Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday and add the Champions League to this season’s FA Cup and League Cup successes.
