Gianluigi Buffon explains decision to leave Juve

Gianluigi Buffon has expanded on his decision to leave Juventus at the end of the season.

The 43 year-old goalkeeper has left the door open to playing on next term.

“Every beginning also has an end. This is the end of my second half at Juve,” Buffon posted to social media.

“It is a decision made, matured and announced months ago already. But it is not an easy decision. Because it is not easy to cut this umbilical cord, from my history, my joy, my tears, my home.

“There can never be a thank you big enough to cover it. I gave everything. I received even more in return.

“What will come is still to be written. And to be experienced. Always, fino alla fine.”

    Serie A: I won’t step aside – Pirlo

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo says he won’t resign after their 3-0 thumping by AC Milan.

The result was a blow to Juve’s top four hopes.

“I said yesterday that the team looked good during the week, we trained with the right mentality and concentration. The team was alive and convinced it could put in a great performance,” Pirlo told Sky Italia.

“Instead that was not the case. We had actually started fairly well, but we lost our way and this was the final result. It’s difficult to explain now. There were many components that didn’t work. When you lose such an important game 3-0 it means many things didn’t work, but I need to evaluate it and then talk it over with the lads with a calm head.”

Pirlo was asked if he was ready to step aside or thinks he might be sacked?

“No, I won’t step aside. I took this role with a great deal of enthusiasm amid certain difficulties. I am at the disposal of the club, there are still three games to go, so I will continue doing my work as long as I am allowed to.”

Two La Liga giants and Seria A club refuse to leave Super League

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have issued a joint statement refusing to abandon the Super League, despite what they claim to be ‘unacceptable pressure and threats to do so, and will continue to pursue similar concepts in the future’.

After fans pressure forced the competition’s collapse with 48 hours of is launch, nine of the original 12 clubs that signed up to join the failed Super League have now agreed to sanctions imposed by UEFA and pledged their future commitment to existing international and domestic club competitions.

Those that have accepted punishment for their actions that threatened the very nature of sport are Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Inter AC Milan and Atletico Madrid. But Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have refused to back down.

UEFA say they will face ‘appropriate action’, while the others have already agreed to giving up 5% of revenue from one seasons’ worth or European competition and an aggregate donation of €15m.

The stubborn trio continue to claim the Super League was for ‘the good of football’, despite concentrating ridiculous wealth in what was intended to be virtually a closed competition, and that it would ‘reinforce global interest’ in football.

They say they will ‘reconsider the proposed approach’ but claim it would be ‘highly irresponsible’ to abandon the project altogether because of what they call a ‘systemic crisis’ in the football industry.

Super League clubs at war with eachother over break-up

The Super League breakaway group are at war with each other.

The New York Times reports Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are now threatening legal action against the clubs preparing to withdraw from the project.

It comes as only nine of the 12 founder members agreed to a peace deal with UEFA on Friday and accepted being fined millions of pounds.

The three European giants who are yet to renounce the Super League have warned their former partners they will extract millions of dollars in penalties if they walk away from the league.

But Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are set to face “appropriate action” under UEFA’s disciplinary process after failing to distance themselves from the Super League, with the organisation’s chief Aleksander Ceferin praising the nine clubs who had “quickly realised their mistake”.

Ceferin said: “I said at the UEFA Congress two weeks ago that it takes a strong organisation to admit making a mistake especially in these days of trial by social media. These clubs have done just that.

“In accepting their commitments and willingness to repair the disruption they caused, UEFA wants to put this chapter behind it and move forward in a positive spirit.

“These clubs recognised their mistakes quickly and have taken action to demonstrate their contrition and future commitment to European football. The same cannot be said for the clubs that remain involved in the so-called ‘Super League’ and UEFA will deal with those clubs subsequently.”

Ronaldo Scores Brace To Rescue Juventus Against Udinese

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice late to rescue a 2-1 win for Juventus at Udinese on Sunday hours after the Turin giants lost their Serie A crown to Inter Milan.

Inter broke Juve’s nine-year streak of domestic dominance by clinching their 19th ‘Scudetto’ after nearest rivals Atalanta drew 1-1 at Sassuolo to leave the ‘Nerazzurri’ 13 points clear with four games remaining.

Antonio Conte’s side had needed just one point to take the title regardless of how Atalanta fared after their 2-0 win at Crotone on Saturday, and have denied Juve a 10th consecutive league title.

Juve’s win moves them up to third as they target a Champions League spot, but are equal on 69 points with second-placed Atalanta and AC Milan in fourth.

Napoli are two points behind in fifth after a 1-1 draw against Cagliari while Lazio are still in the running, five points off a top-four finish with a game in hand after an exciting 4-3 win over Genoa.

“The nine years are over, we will no longer have the Scudetto attached to the shirt, but we will start again with the same desire as before,” said Juve coach Andrea Pirlo.

“We lost points against teams that we should have beaten, sometimes naively, we let Inter escape and now we are focused on reaching the Champions League.”

Juventus had trailed for most of the game in Udine after Nahuel Molina put Udinese ahead in the 10th minutes, blasting in off a quickly taken Rodrigo De Paul free kick while Juventus players were still protesting.

Weston McKennie missed a chance to level for the away side before the half hour mark when he sent a diving header wide.

Matthijs de Ligt had a shot charged down with Ronaldo nodding the follow-up over.

The equaliser came with seven minutes to go after De Paul conceded a penalty for handball from a Ronaldo free kick, with the Portuguese forward making no mistake from the penalty spot.

Four minutes later he grabbed the winner when he headed home an Adrien Rabiot cross with relieved coach Andrea Pirlo racing to join the celebrations.

Ronaldo brings his Serie A-leading tally to 27 goals, six more than Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.

  • Inter Milan end Juve’s dominance by winning first Scudetto since 2010

Inter Milan end Juve’s dominance by winning first Scudetto since 2010

Inter Milan claimed the 19th Scudetto in club history on Sunday as the 1-1 draw between Atalanta and Sassuolo gifted the Nerazzurri a first Serie A championship since 2010.

It was also their first major title since winning the Coppa Italia in 2011.

Inter Milan last claimed the Scudetto in the 2009/2010 season, when Jose Mourinho led the Italian giants to a historic treble.

AC Milan then topped Serie A the following year, before Juventus established an era of dominance by winning nine consecutive titles.

The Nerazzurri temporarily went 13 points clear on the table after a 2-0 victory over already-relegated Crotone on Saturday.

Antonio Conte’s side were expected to end the title drought with four games remaining once Atalanta failed to beat Sassuolo.

The 1-1 draw was then enough for Inter Milan to secure the championship.

“We are, yes, we are. Champions of Italy. We can finally scream it, after dreaming of it, after keeping it hidden in the depths of our hearts, after holding on to it like a precious dream that we did not want to waste.

“We wear this Scudetto. Beautiful, emphatic, deserved. Long-awaited and yearned for,” Inter Milan wrote on their website.

And the newly-crowned champions also warned the fans to “celebrate responsibly”.

While the Scudetto has been secured, the top-four race is still wide open as Juventus fight for a UEFA Champions League spot.

The Bianconeri were 1-0 down just 10 minutes into the game as Nahuel Molina gave Udinese an early lead.

But Juve started to push forward and it paid off in the last minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended his goal drought with a penalty kick and a header, helping the Old Lady finish the comeback.

Atalanta, Juventus, and AC Milan rank second to fourth all with 69 points.

Fifth-placed Napoli with 67 points also have Champions League aspirations after a 1-1 draw with Cagliari on Sunday.

In Sunday’s other fixtures, Lazio edged Genoa 4-3, Sampdoria conquered Roma 2-0, and Bologna shared the spoils with Fiorentina 3-3.

Patrice Evra reveals Juventus’ biggest mistake

Patrice Evra has addressed Juventus fans over the state of the club.

The former defender published a video on his Instagram page, wearing the Bianconeri jersey and speaking in Italian to the fans.

“Juventus fans, it has been a long time since I have spoken to you. I love you, I miss you and I care about you,” said Evra.

“I am suffering like all Juventus fans, but it’s easy to talk about that when you are not the President, but my opinion is from someone who sweat blood for this jersey.

“Juventus will not win the Scudetto because of Inter, who have worked everything out because they did it by bringing in lots of ex-Juventus people. Antonio Conte is a coach from another planet and Giuseppe Marotta performed miracles at Juventus, buying great players.

“I wish Andrea Pirlo well, he is a great friend, I hope he can stay at Juventus for as long as possible, but I must also say that the biggest mistake was firing Allegri: he is a smart coach, the fans criticised him even when he won and took us to the Champions League Final. You thought he was a Milan man, but believe me, he loved and still loves Juventus.”

  • Juve outbid Barca in Aguero pre-contract battle

Juve outbid Barca in Aguero pre-contract battle

Juventus are threatening Barcelona plans for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

With his deal expiring in June, Aguero is free to discuss terms with foreign clubs and it emerged this week that Barca have tabled a two-year pre-contract offer to the Argentine’s minders.

Aguero is impressed and had told family members that he was to join Barca next season.

However, Cuatro says Juve have made their pitch to Aguero and with a superior offer.

While Barca’s deal is worth €7-8m a year, Juve’s proposal is a clear €10m-a-year and has Aguero rethinking his position.

Juve table pre-contract offer for Sergio Aguero

Juventus have tabled a pre-contract offer to Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

It’s been announced Aguero and City will part ways this summer as his deal expires in June. As such, Aguero is free to negotiate pre-contract terms with any foreign club.

Sport says while Barcelona are keen, Juve have jumped ahead in the battle for Aguero’s signature.

The Bianconeri have tabled a two-year pre-contract offer to Aguero, which is for less than what he currently earns with City.

However, given Italy’s favourable tax conditions for footballers, the deal still remains attractive for the Argentine.

  • Serie A: We can still catch Inter Milan – Juve midfielder

Serie A: We can still catch Inter Milan – Juve midfielder

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur insists they can still win the Scudetto this season.

Bentancur was happy with victory over Genoa on Sunday.

“In the first half we did very well in terms of mentality,” Bentancur told Sky Sport Italia. “We improved a lot, but we still have to get better. In the second half we dropped, we handed them the ball and conceded a goal.

“We know we have to do the work in the first half during the whole game. Pirlo hasn’t told anything about this now, but he will for sure do it on Tuesday, when we are back in training.”

Bentancur added: “Against Napoli and Genoa I felt good, I know I have to improve and I want to continue on this path.

“It will be very important against Atalanta, a tough challenge.

“They are there with us and want to qualify for the Champions League. In any case, even the Scudetto, even if it’s far away, is mathematically still within our reach.

“We must continue to win every game in order to reach the maximum at the end of the season.”
