I’m grateful for Pirlo backing – Juve winger

Juventus winger Federico Chiesa says he’s a better player for working with coach Andrea Pirlo.

In his first season with Juve, Chiesa has appeared 27 times in Serie A, contributing eight goals and nine assists.

“What characterises me this year, has been the continuity in my performances,” Chiesa told Sky Sport Italia. “That’s what I have improved the most.

“Playing and training with the champions has helped me, as did the coach and the mentality that exists here at Juventus. Namely that of always wanting to improve and win.

“Pirlo has helped me a lot in recent months. Especially for the trust he has shown me.

“I just have to thank him, every day he gives med advice to improve my game, from the defensive to the attacking phase, and this has helped me a lot.”

Serie A: Juve withdraw new contract offer to Dybala

Serie A club Juventus have withdrawn their new contract offer to Paulo Dybala.

Calciomercato says Juventus had offered him a new €10m-a-year deal.

Dybala and his entourage refused the offer, requesting a new €15m-a-year deal, but Juventus have withdrawn their latest proposal.

The relationship between Dybala and the club remains tense and the player’s exit in the summer is likely. He has a year to run on his current deal.

Dybala joined Juventus in a €40m deal from Palermo in 2015 and has scored 98 goals in 243 games with the Serie A giants since.

Cristiano Ronaldo best of all time – Pepe

Porto defender Pepe has heaped praise on Juventus striker and Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The pair played together at Real Madrid.

“I admire Cristiano a lot, for me he’s the best player of all time,” said Pepe in an interview with TNT Sports.

“Ronaldo managed to do what no one else did. He won in England, Spain, Italy, and even in Portugal. He was our captain, many people criticise him without knowing who he really is.

“Ronaldo was with me at Real Madrid when Casillas knocked me out twice. On one occasion Cristiano came to see me in the hospital, because he saw that my injury was a serious one.

“During the Champions League match, I told him ‘You will play because I want to win with you on the field’. Cristiano replied ‘Okay, with me you will win on the field, but I will be the one to make it to the next round.”

Portugal coach: I’m ready to give Ronaldo advice about Juve

Portugal coach Fernando Santos says he’s available to Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo if he needs advice about his future.

Ronaldo’s future at Juventus has become the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks.

“If he were to ask me for advice on his future, I would always be available,” Santos said. “I could certainly give it to him.

“I know him very well, I have trained him since he was 18, I have a great relationship with him. We talk a lot, but the things we tell each other stay between us.

“Cristiano has won everything at club level, after the European Championship in 2016, he only has to win the World Cup.”

Too many mistakes, says Pirlo after Benevento shock

Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo admits defeat at home to Benevento wasn’t good enough.

Juve lost 1-0 as Arthur’s error was decisive, his back-pass was easily intercepted by Adolfo Gaich for the goal.

Pirlo said, “There was no pressure, just the expectation to do better than this. Instead, it was a bad day in every respect, with our attitude, technical errors, everything. When you play like this, you can well lose.

“We were eager to win the game, but also knew it would be a difficult match, as Benevento are well-organised with two tight lines, so we had to be calm and spread them out.

“Instead, we were frenetic, made lots of mistakes and unfortunately were unable to get the result we wanted.”

On catching Inter Milan and their ten point lead, Pirlo added: “We must continue believing, continue our path so that we are up there. As I said yesterday, the objective does not change, but we do need a completely different attitude to this. We wear an important jersey and must honour it every time.”

Massimiliano Allegri explains rejecting Real Madrid

Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed turning down an approach from Real Madrid.

Allegri has spoken about his future for the first time since leaving Juventus two years ago.

“When Real Madrid called me three years ago, I had promised to Juventus that I would remain. That’s the only one I turned down,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

Allegri touched on Juve, a possible return and the work of Andrea Pirlo.

He added: “It’s impossible to tell, besides, Andrea Pirlo is there now and in my view he’s doing well.

“I don’t know what Juve are missing. They are in the Coppa Italia Final, won the Supercoppa, are fighting for the top four. The Champions League is a bit of a lottery, it can turn on a sixpence.”

I still have much more to achieve – Ronaldo

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo insists he’s as hungry as ever for records after breaking Pele’s goalscoring mark.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in Juventus’ 3-1 win over Cagliari on Sunday and broke Pelé’s goal record.

Ronaldo marked his achievement with a social media post on Sunday, followed by another one on Monday.

“There is still much more to achieve and I believe we can do it together. Goals are an essential part of who I am. I can’t stop chasing for more, looking forward to achieving another record,” Ronaldo wrote.

“I always want more and more and I think that’s why people often say that I have so much energy and that I never stop. Maybe it’s true, but this is essential to keep me alive.”

Cristiano Ronaldo pens down emotional message days after Juventus exit Champions League

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has put out a heartfelt Instagram post in reaction to criticism after his side’s surprise exit from the UEFA champions league round of 16 by Portuguese side FC Porto.

Ronaldo joined the Old Lady from Real Madrid in 2018 for a €100 million transfer fee, which included an additional €12 million in other fees, and has found the back of the net 92 times in 121 games across all competitions.

Regardless of this impressive performance, the Portuguese forward has been unable to replicate this feat in the champions league for the Italian Seria-A holders, a tournament that has almost elevated him to go-like status.

The 36-year-old took to his Instagram handle to send out a message that read:

“More important than the number of falls you take in life, is how fast and how strong you get back on your feet… True champions never break.”

“It’s true that the past belongs in museums (I should say!), but fortunately, football has memory… and so do I! History can’t be deleted, it’s written every single day with resilience, team spirit, persistence and lots of hard work.”

“And those who don’t understand this will never achieve glory and success.” the post also read.

The Italian media had been heavily critical of the 2-time Ballon d’Or winner after the champions league exit indicating the Juventus star “betrayed” Juventus.

Former England and Russia national team coach, Fabio Capello called it an “unforgivable mistake”, while club legend Nicola Amoruso suggested the forward was “afraid of receiving a ball in the face because he cares about his image”,

Despite these claims, Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo claimed responsibility for assigning Ronaldo and Morata to the wall

He however maintained that the real problem was that his players “underestimated the danger” of Oliveira’s shot, which was taken at a great distance from the goal.

“An error was committed and unfortunately when you make mistakes like these in the Champions League Round of 16 you pay for them,” Pirlo said.

I said from first day Ronaldo was wrong signing – Ex-Juve president

Former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli says the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo has been a failure.

The Portuguese great is being hammered in the local Italian media today for his role in Juve’s Champions League elimination by Porto.

“Ronaldo was a wrong signing, absolutely,” Cobolli Gigli told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“I had said it on his very first day at Juventus. He is a great champion, but he is too expensive.

“Now it’s up to Juventus. They’ve been paying him €1m per goal. Agnelli must be self-critical, but he doesn’t have great collaborators.

“I don’t blame Pirlo. I hired Ferrara and it was not a positive experience. Agnelli took a risk with him. He didn’t want Sarri, but he accepted him because Paratici and Nedved had pushed to hire him. Juventus need to rebuild now,”

UCL: Don’t blame Ronaldo for Juve exit – Del Piero

Juventus legend Alex del Piero insists Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn’t be blamed for their Champions League elimination.

Porto bounced Juve out of the competition last night at the round 16 stage, despite being a man down in the second-leg.

Del Piero said: “Cristiano has responsibilities, of course. He didn’t have many chances, but he wasted that header that he used to always take advantage of. However, it can’t just be his fault. Juve played for more than an hour 11 against 10.”

The journalist Paolo Condó, on the same TV set, was blunt about the Portuguese: “Cristiano was signed to compete at the highest level in the Champions League. In the first two seasons the rest of the team collapsed, this time he too.

“Before the game I asked (sporting director Fabio) Paratici about his renewal, I think that now he would give me a negative answer.”
