  • Transfer news: Ramsey to become second-highest earner at Juve

Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, has agreed a five-year pre-contract with Juventus, according to Mediaset.

Ramsey will however wait until the summer, before he joins the Italian champions.

The Welshman will earn €6.5million per annum (after tax) basic salary.

The 28-year-old will also pocket €500,000 bonuses should he play 50% of games per season and €1m bonuses should he play 70%.

This deal makes him the second highest earner at the club, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ramsey’s current deal with Arsenal expires at the end of the season and the midfielder is set to leave The Emirates, after the Gunners withdrew their offer of a new contract.

Serie A: VAR controversy as Juventus beat Sampdoria

The video assistant referee played a major role, including ruling out an injury-time equaliser, as champions Juventus beat Sampdoria to keep up their unbeaten run in Serie A.

Riccardo Saponara thought he had taken a point, but the goal was ruled out.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored early on, and later put his side back in front with a penalty that was awarded for a handball which did not look deliberate.

  • UCL: Mandzukic strike sends Juventus through to knockout stage

Mario Mandzukic’s tap-in was enough to send Juventus into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 win against Valencia.

Tuesday night’s hosts went into the game knowing a point would see them through to the knockout stages and although the performance was not the most polished, they did their job.

After a goalless first half – which saw Mouctar Diakhaby go close with a header just before half-time in the pick of Valencia’s chances – Mandzukic slotted home a Cristiano Ronaldo cross to see Juventus into the next round.

Juventus are currently two points clear at the top of Group H ahead of Manchester United – who also beat Young Boys 1-0 on Tuesday – with the Old Trafford result knocking Valencia out of the competition.

  • Serie A: Higuain apologises for sending off in Juve defeat

AC Milan forward Gonzalo Higuain has apologised for getting dismissed against Juventus during a 2-0 defeat on Sunday in which he also missed a first-half penalty.

Enraged after being penalised following a collision with Juventus defender Medhi Benatia, the former Real Madrid forward was booked for dissent, then given another yellow immediately afterwards for continued protest.

“First of all, I want to apologise to the team, the coach, the supporters and the referee for my reaction,” Higuain said.

“I take responsibility for what happened. Obviously, I hope that it doesn’t happen again. It was one of those moments.

“We were losing. I missed a penalty and we aren’t robots but people. But I don’t want to try and justify my actions.”

Juventus loaned Higuain to Milan for one year with an option to buy in August after signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, Higuain reiterated that it was however not his decision.

“It was taken by others, not by me. I have always given everything in Turin,” said Higuain, who scored 55 goals in 105 appearances for Juventus.

“Now I’m at Milan and I’m fine here. I am a very emotional person and player, so sometimes it is difficult to contain myself.

“You can see me in the face if I’m feeling good or bad,” he added.

“We are an example for children and I know my action was not the right one.”

He also thanked his former Juventus team mates who tried to restrain him.

“I had a great rapport with them, it was pleasing that they came and tried to hold me back.

“They know that players have emotions and this game went wrong, above all for me, and I can only apologise.”

  • Champions League: Man Utd fight back to beat Juventus

Champions League: Man Utd fight back to beat Juventus

Manchester United stunned Juventus with two goals in the final five minutes to beat the Italian champions in Turin and give themselves a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages.

Juan Mata curled in a free-kick with five minutes to go, before Ashley Young’s set-piece was bundled into his own net by Juventus defender Alex Sandro.

Cristiano Ronaldo had put the hosts ahead with an outstanding volley against his former club.

Ronaldo watched Leonardo Bonucci’s long pass over his shoulder before lashing it past United goalkeeper David De Gea for his first goal in the competition since signing for the Serie A leaders.

Juventus had hit the frame of the goal either side of half-time, with Sami Khedira striking a post and Paulo Dybala curling an effort on to the bar.

Jose Mourinho’s side offered little attacking threat at the other end, until substitute Mata beat goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with a well-placed free-kick from the edge of the box in the 86th minute.

Three minutes later and another United free-kick proved Juventus’ undoing, as Young’s in-swinging delivery was inadvertently turned in under pressure by Sandro from close range.

The visitors’ late double keeps them second in Group H and two points above Valencia, who beat Young Boys 3-1 in the early kick-off, with two games still to play.

  • Man Utd must deliver complete performance at Juve – Giggs

Man Utd must deliver complete performance at Juve – Giggs

Manchester United have been plagued by inconsistency this season, and must put together a complete 90-minute performance to get anything from their Champions League game at Juventus later on Wednesday, Ryan Giggs has said.

United were comprehensively outplayed in a 1-0 defeat to the Italian champions at Old Trafford last month.

While they have beaten Everton and Bournemouth in their two matches since, Giggs said they are still blowing hot and cold.

“I’ve been really impressed with United in the last four or five games, especially second half,” Giggs, who won two Champions League titles at United, told British media.

“But I don’t know what it is. As a United fan you are scratching your head. They have proven they can give anyone a game, but if you don’t turn up for 45 minutes you will not win.

“You have to turn up for 90 minutes and United have the players,” added Wales coach Giggs. “They were second best the other week, but I think it will be closer on Wednesday.”

  • Khashoggi’s death: Amnesty International ‘begs’ AC Milan, Juventus FCs to shun Italian Super Cup in Saudi

Sequel to the gruesome murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Amnesty International on Saturday urged football clubs AC Milan and Juventus to shun the Italian Super Cup scheduled to be hosted in Saudi Arabia in January.

“Even before the horrific killing of Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi Arabia had a truly appalling human rights record,” said Allan Hogarth, Amnesty International UK’s head of policy.

“Big clubs like Juventus and AC Milan need to understand that their participation in sporting events in the country could be used as a form of ‘sportswashing’,” Hogarth said.

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist critical of his government, was killed after entering his country’s Istanbul consulate on October 2 to obtain paperwork to marry his Turkish fiancee.

“We’d urge these Italian clubs to think twice about the signal this sends out to sports fans across the world and the brave activists who stand up for human rights in Saudi Arabia,” Hogarth said.

Gruesome reports have alleged that Khashoggi’s body was dismembered by a team sent from Saudi Arabia to silence the journalist, whose columns were frequently critical of powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The murder has dealt a serious blow to Saudi Arabia’s image, which Prince Mohammed has sought to improve since his appointment as heir to the throne last year. He has ended a ban on women driving and loosened other restrictions in the kingdom.

The 2018/2019 Italian Super Cup is scheduled for January 2019 in the Saudi capital Riyadh, and pits last year’s Italian Cup winner — Juventus — against the runner-up, AC Milan.

  • Man Utd v Juventus: Sanchez out, Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford ahead of UCL clash

Man Utd v Juventus: Sanchez out, Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford ahead of UCL clash

Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out of Manchester United’s Champions League encounter against Juventus.

The 29-year-old Chilean appeared as a late substitute in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea but is “not fit”, according to United boss Jose Mourinho.
Defender Antonio Valencia could feature for the first time since 2 October after an operation on his mouth.
Juventus are set to start with Cristiano Ronaldo, who spent six years at Old Trafford between 2003-2009.
It will be the 33-year-old’s first Champions League appearance since he was sent off against Valencia on 19 September.
However, the champions of Italy will be without Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic, former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and midfielder Sami Khedira.
Speaking about Valencia’s recent absence, Mourinho said: “He had a problem – and had very complicated surgery on his mouth.
“He needed time to recover. It is the reason he was 10 days without training.”

  • Ronaldo becomes first player to score 400 goals in Europe’s top five leagues

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 400 goals in Europe’s top five leagues as Juventus dropped points for the first time this season.

Ronaldo’s fifth Serie A goal for Juve was added to his 84 Premier League strikes for Manchester United and 311 in La Liga for Real Madrid.
He tapped in after Joao Cancelo’s shot was blocked – having earlier hit the post with a header.
But Daniel Bessa equalised with a header from Christian Kouame’s cross.
Juventus defenders switched off for the goal, expecting the ball to drop for a corner – but Kouame kept it in and found an unmarked Bessa.
The hosts dominated most of the game, but of their 21 shots, only three were on target – all from Ronaldo, who had 11 efforts in total, in the first half.
Krzysztof Piatek’s run of scoring in every game for Genoa since his summer move from Cracovia came to an end. The 23-year-old Poland striker had scored 13 goals in his first eight games.
Ronaldo’s landmark puts him 11 goals above the second top scorer in Europe’s main leagues, Lionel Messi – who has scored 389 La Liga goals for Barcelona.
Champions Juve had won their opening eight Serie A games and two Champions League fixtures. They are seven points above second-placed Napoli – who visit Udinese.
On Tuesday, they visit Manchester United in the Champions League

  • Serie A: Juventus forced me to leave – Higuain

Serie A: Juventus forced me to leave – Higuain

AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain said he was treated very well by Juventus — right until the moment they forced him out of the club to make way for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Argentine moved to Milan on loan in August after two seasons at Juventus, where he won two Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.
Higuain also scored 55 goals in 105 appearances in all competitions.
His departure, which he said was not his decision, came shortly after the Turin side signed five-times world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
Higuain, in an interview published on Thursday, said he felt something was amiss when he was left on the bench for the Coppa Italia final against AC Milan in May.
“That day, I had the feeling inside me that maybe something had broken down. And then they signed Ronaldo,” he said.
“The decision to leave was not mine. I gave everything for Juventus, I won several titles, after which Cristiano arrived.
“The club wanted to make a leap in quality and they told me that I could not stay and that they were trying to find a solution. The best solution was Milan“.
Still, Higuain said there were no hard feelings.
“Mine is a feeling of affection because they treated me very well,” he added. “Companions and supporters have given me huge affection. But I did not ask to leave. Basically, everyone says it, they sent me away.”
Higuain, who will take part in his first derby against Inter Milan on Sunday, has scored four goals in his first nine games for Milan.
“Milan have given me something more after a World Cup which wasn’t great,” he said. “I found what I was looking for.”
