Ronaldo scores as Juventus maintain perfect start

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brilliant goal as Juventus maintained their 100% winning start by beating Udinese.

It comes during a week in which the Portugal forward “firmly” denied rape allegations.
Rodrigo Bentancur had headed in the opener for Serie A champions Juve, while Antonin Barak struck the foot of the post for the home side.
Udinese goalkeeper Simone Scuffet made a series of saves, the best of which was to keep out Joao Cancelo’s effort.

Champions League: Dybala scores hat-trick in Juventus win

Paulo Dybala scored a hat-trick as Juventus beat Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League to register the club’s best ever start to a season.

Dybala struck twice in the first half for Juve, who were without the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Argentine striker, 24, completed his treble on 69 minutes to make it nine straight wins in all competitions.
That took the Italian champions past their previous best start of eight wins in 1930-31.
Juve won their first nine games as they won Serie A in 2005-06 but were subsequently stripped of the title for match-fixing.
Having won 2-0 at Valencia in their opening Group H game, they are now two points clear of Manchester United, who they face in their next two group games.

  • Ronaldo feels he can progress at Juventus, so do I – Aluko

“The fact Cristiano Ronaldo feels he can progress his career here just shows the club’s stature in world football, and I very much feel the same.”

After nearly six years at Chelsea, Eniola Aluko already felt “the timing was right” for her move to Italian giants Juventus, several weeks before Ronaldo made his switch from Real Madrid for 112m euros.

And Aluko, capped 102 times by England, is enjoying being out of her comfort zone as she attempts to embrace a new language and culture among Turin’s grand piazzas, baroque architecture and snow-topped mountain backdrop.

The city that was once a powerhouse of the European manufacturing industry is hoping to build one of the continent’s dominant women’s teams, having formed their side in 2017.

After lifting the Serie A title in their inaugural season, the ‘Old Lady’ have signed two of England’s bronze medal-winning squad from the 2015 World Cup in forwards Aluko and Lianne Sanderson. Aluko believes they can be one of Europe’s top clubs within two years.

“I’m absolutely loving Turin’s old, historical-city vibe, with the narrow, cobbled streets. I made sure I got an apartment that felt very Italian as well, so I already feel very immersed in the culture,” Aluko told BBC Sport.

“It’s been great to just feel out of my comfort zone, in terms of language. I’m trying to speak it every day and become fluent in Italian.

“But ultimately it’s about winning. All over the world people know Juventus as a club affiliated with legends and success and the project with the women’s side is very ambitious.”

  • Claudio Marchisio leaves Serie A giant after 25 years

Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio has left Juventus, ending a 25-year association with the club.

Both parties agreed to the termination of the 32-year-old’s contract, which was due to expire in 2020.

“It will be a pleasure to keep following him, whichever shirt he will wear in the future,” said Juventus in a tribute to the player on their website.

Marchisio played 389 times for the Bianconeri, winning seven league titles and four Coppas Italia.

The Turin-born player, who suffered a serious knee injury in April 2016 which ruled him out for six months, made 20 appearances last season.

In a tweet, accompanied with an image of him as a young player, Marchisio said: “I can’t stop looking at this photograph and the stripes on which I wrote my life as a man and a footballer.

“I love this shirt to the point that, despite everything, I am convinced that the good of the team comes first. All the time.”

Juventus added: “Twenty-five years have passed since Claudio put on the black and white shirt for the very first time. He was aged just seven with a mad desire to play for his hometown club and a head full of dreams.

“His dream back then, as he has so often retold, was to wear the very same shirt in front of thousands of fans, fighting for the most coveted trophies that the beautiful game has to offer.”

  • Gareth Bale stunner helps Madrid beat Juventus

Gareth Bale stunner helps Madrid beat Juventus

Gareth Bale’s stunning strike helped Real Madrid fight back to beat Juventus in a friendly which did not feature Cristiano Ronaldo against his old club.

Juve led when right-back Dani Carvajal slid into his own net before Bale equalised with a thumping half-volley.

Marco Asensio put Madrid ahead and then scored a third that Juve’s Wojciech Szczesny should have stopped.

Ronaldo, who joined Juve last month in a £99m deal, has been given an extended break after the World Cup.

Madrid allowed the 33-year-old to leave for the Italian champions after a nine-year spell which saw him score a club record 450 goals and win four Champions League titles.

The Portugal forward’s departure appears to have secured Bale’s future at the Bernabeu for the time being, with new coach Julen Lopetegui saying the Wales forward can “help fill the void” this season.

Lopetegui is also hoping a number of young players can also step up this season for the European champions and, on the evidence of this pre-season friendly in Maryland, USA, it looks like they can.

Several younger players impressed in the second half as Bale, Germany midfielder Toni Kroos and striker Karim Benzema came off.

Spain international Asensio, 22, took his chances in front of goal, while 18-year-old Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior – who joined this summer in a £38.7m deal – was a constant problem with his sharp and direct running.

The pair linked up for the European champions’s second goal, Vinicius skipping into space on the left before squaring for Asensio to roll in.

Juventus had little answer to the pace and energy of their opponents after that, although Federico Bernardeschi did see an injury-time free-kick pushed onto the bar.

  • Leonardo Bonucci rejoins Juventus, Higuain completes move to AC Milan

Leonardo Bonucci rejoins Juventus, Higuain completes move to AC Milan

Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci has rejoined Serie A champions Juventus from AC Milan, while striker Gonzalo Higuain has moved the opposite way.

AC Milan will pay 18m euros (£16m) for the loan of Higuain and have the option to make the deal permanent in a year by paying a fee of 36m euros (£32.04m).

Meanwhile, Italy defender Mattia Caldara has left Juve to join AC Milan.

Bonucci, 31, and Caldara, 24, is a swap deal with both transfers worth 35m euros (£31.2m).

Argentina striker Higuain, 30, scored 16 Serie A goals last season.

Higuain, who was linked with a move to Premier League side Chelsea, joined Juve from Napoli for a then domestic record fee of £75.3m in 2016 and scored 40 league goals in two seasons.

AC Milan said in a statement: “Gonzalo and Mattia are two important pieces of the new era of the club.”

Bonucci, 31, spent just one season at the San Siro having joined from Juve for £35.1m last summer.

A Juventus statement said: “After spending seven wonderful years in black and white, Leonardo Bonucci has returned to the club following a season at AC Milan.

“Both Juventus and Bonucci are ready to start winning things again together.”

  • Transfer news: Chelsea contact Juventus over Gonzalo Higuain

Chelsea have made initial contact with Juventus with the hope of signing Gonzalo Higuain, according to Sky in Italy.

After Juve completed the £105m signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid last week, the Serie A club need to sell some players due to UEFA’s FFP rules.

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri worked with Higuain at Napoli before the striker joined Juventus in 2016, and Sky in Italy believe Sarri is keen to link up with the 30-year-old again at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are also interested in signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, Sky in Italy are reporting – another player that worked with Sarri previously at Empoli.

Sarri has already brought Jorginho with him to west London this summer, but Chelsea are yet to make another first-term signing.

With goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois anticipated to leave, Chelsea are considering re-signing Petr Cech or Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel, according to Sky sources.

Chelsea, who finished outside the Champions League places last season, are believed to want to keep Eden Hazard, with Sarri recently insisting he wanted their strongest players to remain at the club.

Sarri said: “Clearly we would always like to keep all the strongest players. This is what any manager wants to do, this is what any club wants to do.

“But then we will have to see how the transfer market will go over the next few days.”

  • Chelsea owner Abramovic in Italy to seal deal for two Juventus players

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovic is currently in Italy to finalize double deal on two Juventus star players, defender Daniele Rugani and striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Italian newspaper, Calciomercato quoted Italian journalist, Alfredo Pedulla as saying that Abramovic is in Milan to have a meeting with Juventus in order to finalize the deal to bring Rugani and Higuain to Stamford Bridge.

Rugani has been linked with a move away from Turin since Juve defenders, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli signed contract extensions with the Old Lady, to extend their stay at the club.

However, reports suggest that Chelsea will first try and offload striker, Alvaro Morata to AC Milan, perhaps before being able to conclude a deal for Higuain.

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri is getting closer to bringing in his desired Serie A transfer targets to the Blues after replacing Antonio Conte earlier this week.

However, under Sarri’s guidance at Napoli, Higuain broke Serie A’s scoring record in a single season with 36 goals in the 2015-16 campaign.

Sarri was angered by Higuain’s decision to join Juventus after his record-breaking season, but admitted he treated the Argentine international like his own son.

“He made a debatable choice, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good man,” Sarri told reporters after Higuain’s departure.

“Despite it all, I still feel about him the way I do feel about a son who has made you angry, but you still care for him. I owe him a great deal.”

  • Juventus signing Ronaldo says players of his age go to Qatar or China

Juventus signing Ronaldo says players of his age go to Qatar or China

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is “grateful for the opportunity” given to him by Juventus, as players of his age “usually go to Qatar or China”.

The 33-year-old Portugal forward has joined the Italian champions for £99.2m after nine years at Real Madrid.

“To come to this club at this stage of my career, I am very happy,” he said at his presentation in Turin.

Ronaldo also said he hopes to be the “lucky star” as the Italian side attempt to win the Champions League.

He added he had not received any other offers.

Ronaldo scored a club record 450 goals for Real – winning four Champions Leagues and La Liga twice – having joined from Manchester United in 2009.

A five-time Ballon D’Or winner – including last year – he led Portugal to victory at the 2016 European Championship.

“I want to win,” he said. “I want to be the best. Who knows, maybe I will be awarded the Ballon d’Or again but things will happen naturally.

“It was difficult to win it in Manchester and Real Madrid, but maybe here? We will see.”

Ronaldo said there were “many important things” that contributed to his decision.

“I am well – physically, mentally and emotionally,” he said. “That is why I am so proud of being here and the way I have come here.

“I am different from all the other players who think that their career is over at my age, but I want to show the others that I am different. It is very emotional for me at the club now because I am not 23, I am 33.

“It gives me so much momentum for the future.”
