Transfer: Paul Pogba and Juve agree contract

Departing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has committed to a deal with Serie A side Juventus.

Off contract this month, Pogba has been linked with PSG, Real Madrid and Juve.

But Il Corriere dello Sport says everything has been settled between Pogba and Juve.

The France midfielder has agreed a base salary of €8m for four years plus bonuses reaching €10-11m-a-year.

Juve will announce Pogba’s return after six years away on July 1.

  • Pogba won’t return to Juve, he’s afraid of me – Allegri

Pogba won’t return to Juve, he’s afraid of me – Allegri

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has joked about Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba’s return to Turin.

Pogba is in Bosman talks with Juve about a summer move.

“He won’t be back, he is afraid of challenging me,” Allegri said, laughing.

The coach was referring to a famous basketball shooting challenge held during Pogba’s previous time at Juve.

Pogba had also challenged Allegri to a football shooting challenge in which the coach also emerged as victorious.

“He lost playing with foot and hands. That’s why he left. That’s the real reason why he left,” the coach added.

  • Juve close to agreement for Man Utd veteran Matic

Juve close to agreement for Man Utd veteran Matic

Serie A club Juventus are closing on a deal for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The Daily Star says Juve are set to snap up Matic this summer.

The Manchester United midfielder, 33, is available on a free transfer in June after agreeing with the club to terminate his current deal a year early.

Serbian star Matic confirmed a fortnight ago that he would not be extending his four-year stay at Old Trafford.

And that has led to Juventus’ approach to take the ex-Chelsea and Benfica man to Turin – and the opportunity to finish his career with a first spell in Serie A. The switch to Italy definitely appeals to Matic as do the financial terms on offer from the Italian giants.

Although he is giving up 12 months’ wages at United – worth a basic £6.25m – a signing on fee of £10m from Juve more than covers any losses – Matic will pocket £90,000 a week in wages.

  • Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus could still be sanctioned – UEFA

Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus could still be sanctioned – UEFA

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin says FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus could yet face sanctions for refusing to back down in their idea of forming a Super League.

The three were the only founding clubs not to renounce the widely-derided Super League after the breakaway project’s collapse in April 2021.

Last month, a Madrid court lifted precautionary measures preventing UEFA from punishing the trio, who have continued to voice their backing for a new competition.

Their insistence was in spite of the withdrawals of the other nine founding members.

The UEFA president hinted on Saturday that sanctions against the trio could be on the horizon and hit out at the “incredible arrogance” of the clubs.

Ceferin, who assumed his post in 2016 after succeeding Michel Platini, also said the clubs were free to do whatever they liked.

He however warned that they would not be allowed to participate in UEFA competitions if the venture was revived.

“Of course it’s possible [to sanction the clubs], but let’s see what happens,” Ceferin said.

“The only ‘hello’ UEFA got from them came from the courts, as they tried to challenge us everywhere.

“We never said that they couldn’t play their own competition, because they can if they want. But it’s funny that these were the clubs that first registered in the UEFA Champions League.

“If they play other tournaments, they cannot play in our competitions. That is not a monopoly. They can create their own UEFA and do what they think is right.

“I showed them a lot of respect in the past. I don’t want to talk about the president of Juventus [Andrea Agnelli], but my relationship with him was very open and honest.

“I never said this before, but I invited the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, to Nyon before it all happened to talk about future competitions.

“He called off the meeting with a text message just 24 hours earlier because of ‘a basketball-related event’. With [former Barca president Josep Maria] Bartomeu I never spoke.

“Everyone had a chance to speak, and we’ve never been pushy or arrogant.

“The announcement of that project was an act of incredible arrogance on their part, and that’s probably why they don’t want to communicate with UEFA.

“But that has never influenced how we treat them in our tournaments.

“You can see it in their successes: Real Madrid will play in the Champions League final and Barca will play in the Women’s Champions League.

“That is a clear sign that our competitions are healthy, fair and correct.

“Football must remain open to all, and we will not back down one millimetre to defend the European sporting model.

“What they want is theirs, and they are free to get together and do what they want.”

Amid their refusal to back down on their support for the Super League, Real Madrid will appear in their 17th European Cup/Champions League final later this month.

That was after a remarkable 6-5 aggregate triumph over Manchester City in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, UEFA has faced criticism for proposed Champions League reforms which could allow two qualification places to be awarded based on historical performances.

Ceferin said the demise of the Super League made (it) clear that continental football must remain open to all.

“I was glad it happened because it was always up in the air,” he added.

“When it finally came out, we ended once and for all with this nonsense that football can be bought, that football is only for the elite, only for the rich.

    “That will never happen.

“People warned me that the same people killed basketball, but I told them, ‘Basketball is not football. It will never be football.’

“Football is part of our history. It is part of our traditions.”

  • Serie A: Why Vlahovic struggling with Juve – Tacchinardi

Serie A: Why Vlahovic struggling with Juve – Tacchinardi

Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi says their style of play doesn’t suit Dusan Vlahovic.

Vlahovic scored 17 goals in 22 league appearances this season for Fiorentina before his January move. Since joining Juve, the Serb has scored six goals in 12 league appearances.

Asked about Vlahovic’s problems, Tacchinardi said: “Simply because of Juventus’ way of playing, the team doesn’t put him in a position to score goals at the moment.

“Juventus don’t create chances and play badly, so the best striker in the league doesn’t get to shoot on goal.”

Juve clinched Champions League qualification on the weekend.

  • Chelsea midfielder tables personal terms to Juve

Chelsea midfielder tables personal terms to Juve

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has set his terms to leave Stamford Bridge for Juventus.

Inside the final 18 months of his Chelsea contract, Jorginho has found himself in limbo with talks over a new deal frozen while the club is being sold.

A return to Italy for the former Napoli midfielder has been mooted, where Juve are keen.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says negotiations have commenced with Juve and terms have been discussed.

Jorginho is seeking €7m-a-year to join Juve, which falls within the club’s wage budget. Matthijs de Ligt is the highest earner at the Allianz Stadium with an €8m-a-year salary, plus €4m add-ons.

  • Juve striker Vlahovic scores 32 seconds into Champions League debut

Juve striker Vlahovic scores 32 seconds into Champions League debut

Dusan Vlahovic scored the quickest Champions League debut goal ever but Juventus were pegged back to draw at Villarreal in the last 16 first leg.

The 22-year-old Serb, a £58m signing from Fiorentina last month, ran onto Danilo’s long ball before a swivel and clever finish after 32 seconds.

Villarreal’s Giovani lo Celso sliced a shot off the outside of the post.

The leveller came when Dani Parejo ghosted in to finish from Etienne Capoue’s aerial ball into the box.

Juve were fortunate to end with 11 men as Adrien Rabiot was only booked for a dangerous foul on Samuel Chukwueze.

“It was huge to score on my debut,” said Vlahovic, whose only other European experience was as a 16-year-old for Partizan Belgrade in Europa League qualifying. “It was very emotional.

“However, I cannot be 100% satisfied because we have not won the game. Personally, I have already forgotten this game and I’m focused on the next.”

With the away goal rule scrapped this year the tie is level going into the second leg in Turin in three weeks.

Massimiliano Allegri’s Juve are unbeaten in 90 minutes since November but they were made to pay for their negativity at Estadio de la Ceramica.

They moved to a back five after scoring that first-minute goal and then switched off as Parejo was unmarked to fire in a leveller.

A Vlahovic shot from outside the box in the 85th minute was their only other shot on target.

To make matters worse they lost midfielder Weston McKennie to an ankle injury in the second half.

Villarreal, who have never lost a home game in the Champions League knockout stages, pushed for a winner but definitely missed injured Spain striker Gerard Moreno.

Arnaut Danjuma, who has deputised up front and scored a hat-trick at Granada on Saturday, had a clever backheel shot saved in the first half.

  • Why I turned down Chelsea and Juventus – Nainggolan

Why I turned down Chelsea and Juventus – Nainggolan

Royal Antwerp midfielder Radja Nainggolan has recalled turning down offers from Chelsea and Juventus during his career.

Nainggolan left Cagliari for Antwerp last summer.

He told OCW Sport: “I don’t give a damn about money. If I had thought about money I would have had a very different career. After Cagliari I could have gone to Juve, who also wanted me when I was at Roma, but not only that, I could have also gone to Chelsea, but I preferred to be myself in a city where I have always felt well accepted both as a player and as a man.

“With Roma we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and I was convinced to stay, but when Monchi arrived they didn’t want to keep me.

“Roma had given the mandate to certain agents to represent the club in the negotiations, and they also took out my agent. At that point I decided where to go and I chose Inter to follow Spalletti.”
