    Police rescue 17 year-old kidnapped victim in Kaduna

    The Police Command in Kaduna State says its operatives has rescued a 17 year-old kidnapped victim in Sabon Birnin Daji forest of Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, made the announcement in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Jalige said that on Saturday, the operatives of the command while on routine patrol around Sabon Birnin Daji forest, intercepted sounds of sporadic gunshot coming through the forest.

    He said that the operatives decided to move forcefully to find out what could be responsible for such act.

    “The operatives stormed a kidnapper’s den, where a fierce exchange of fire ensued which resulted in the rescue of one Sani Adamu, 17, a resident of old Sabon Gida airport while the bandits escaped with varying bullet wounds

    “The said victim was immediately taken to Kutungare Primary Health Care Centre for medical attention.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was abducted while working on a rice farm around Afaka village in igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna,” he added.

    Jalige said that effort was being intensified to ensure that the vicinity was thoroughly combed for a possible rescue of more victims if any and to rid the area of criminal elements.

    “The command is calling on the public not to be deterred by these isolated incidences and to report any kidnap incident recorded within their areas so that the authority will act upon promptly.”Jalige said.

    Kaduna Govt to boot 233 teachers over fake certificates

    The Kaduna State Government is set to dismiss 233 teachers over allegations of fake certificates.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Tijjani Abdullahi, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) made this known on Thursday.

    Abdullahi said the files of the teachers affected will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice to initiate prosecution for forgery.

    He said: “The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) wishes to update you on recent developments in its continuous quest to improve standards in public basic education schools.

    “As part of its responsibility to ensure that all teachers actually have the qualifications they presented, the Board launched a certificate verification exercise in April 2021. The major objective of this exercise was to ensure that all our teachers have the requisite credentials that constitute the basic qualifications for employment as teachers.

    “So far, the Board has verified 451 certificates by contacting the institutions that awarded the certificates. Nine of the 13 institutions contacted have responded, as at today.

    “The responses from the institutions show that 233 teachers presented fake certificates. This represents 51% of the 451 certificates on which responses have been received from the awarding institutions. One institution disowned 212 of these 233 fake certificates.

    “The Board will dismiss the 233 teachers who presented these fake certificates, while their files will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice to initiate prosecution for forgery. The Board will continue to check the integrity of the certificates presented by teachers to ensure that this critical profession is not devalued by impostors.

    “As part of our duty of transparency, the names of the 233 teachers found to have presented fake certificates will be uploaded on the website of the Kaduna State Government today.

    “The Board also wishes to inform the people of Kaduna State that it will shortly be conducting the competency test for teachers. When the Kaduna State Government recruited 25,000 new teachers after the 2017 competency test, it made clear that it will continue to assess its teachers both for their own improvement and for better delivery of learning outcomes for pupils.

    “The Board will follow up the competency test with series of training programmes, organised in batches for teachers. This will begin in January 2022 for 12,254 teachers. The Board has signed MoUs with the National Teachers Institute, the College of Education, Gidan Waya, and the Federal College of Education, Zaria, to conduct the training exercise”.

    BREAKING: Notorious bandit terrorizing Kaduna-Abuja highway killed

    The Police Command in Kaduna State, says its operatives, Federal Intelligence Bureau (FIB) and Special Tactical Squad (STS) Force headquarters, killed a notorious bandit and arrested an accomplice in Kaduna.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalije, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna.

    Jalige said on November 24, operatives of the Kaduna Police Command, in collaboration with the FIB and STS, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police (CP),Mr Mudassiru Abdullahi, acted on credible intelligence, and raided a facility Known as Sir Joe Guest House, located at NO. 8 Sajo Street Unguwan Maigero area of Sabon Tasha in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state where suspected bandits were said to have lodged.

    According to him, the suspected armed bandits on sensing danger, took to their heels, shooting sporadically and leading to a gun duel with the operatives.

    “One notorious bandit, popularly called Yellow Magaji, a.k.a Arushe, was wounded in the shootout whereas his equally notorious partner, Yellow Ashana, and others escaped with bullet wounds.

    “The wounded bandit was thereafter taken to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for possible resuscitation in a bit to obtain useful information. But he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

    He explained that after an extensive search of the scene, the operatives recovered one AK 47 rifle loaded with 23 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm live ammunition, 14 expended shells of the aforesaid ammunition and one Boxer motorcycle belonging to the bandits.

    He said the owner of the facility who harbours the criminals was equally arrested for questioning.

    “It is significant to state that the neutralized bandit, Yellow Magaji, until his demise was among a syndicate of bandits terrorising users of Kaduna-Abuja highway of recent,” he said.

    Jalige said the Commissioner of Police saluted the courage of the operatives and most importantly the source of the valid information.

    He urged other members of the public to assist security operatives with prompt information as he assures them of absolute confidentiality while acting on the information.

    He also called on the law-abiding citizens to always be vigilant and security conscious of their immediate environment in order to avoid been preys to marauding criminals.

    Kaduna State Government has ordered immediate restoration of telecommunication service in areas where the facility was earlier suspended for security reasons.

    Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said this while addressing newsmen in Kaduna.

    He said, the State Government had contacted relevant federal agencies to effect the immediate restoration of the services.

    He recalled that in October 2021 security agencies had requested the shutdown as part of the measures to address the problem of banditry and related crimes.

    “The security agencies have notified he government that telecom services can now be restored.

    “The initial shutdown, along with other measures, had helped the security agencies to achieve some results“, Aruwan said

    He said it was unfortunate that the measure, had its negative impact on the legitimate activities of citizens and businesses.

    He assured residents that the restoration of full services in the affected area would be full achieved in few days.

    While commending the sacrifices made by residents during the temporary shutdown he expressed regrets for inconveniences caused the affected areas.

    The Commissioner, however, said other measures, on security measures aimed at combating crimes in the affected areas remained in force.

    “These include; prohibition of movement of motorcycle, the ban on weekly market, transportation of cattle and sales of cattle across the state,” he said.

    Unknown gunmen kill retired Air force officer in Kaduna

    The Kaduna state Police Command has confirmed the killing of Retired AVM Muhammad Maisaka, by unknown gunmen, at his residence in Ragasi, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalige confirmed the incident on Tuesday, in Kaduna.

    Jalige, who said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, also saw his gateman sustaining injury from the attack.

    He said when the information was received; the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mudassiru Abdullah directed the Divisional Police Officer and the Area Commander to the scene.

    “The corpse has been evacuated to the hospital and the gateman has also been rushed to the hospital for treatment”, he said, while revealing details of the incident would be made available soon.

    Jalige appealed to Kaduna residents to come forward with useful and timely information tat could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

    The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has ordered a probe into the alleged killing of suspected informants by lunch mob in Igabi Local Government of the state.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports security agencies had reported the killing of a man, his wife and son, by a lynch mob in Zangon Aya community, Igabi local government area as stated in a statement issued by Samuel Aruwan Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State.

    According to the report, Abdullahi Mohammed Gobirawa, his wife Binta Abdullahi and his son Hassan Abdullahi, were killed when a mob stormed their home on Monday afternoon.

    The mob action was in response to the trio’s suspected collaboration with bandits, especially in relation to recent kidnappings in the area.

    After killing the trio, the mob looted and burnt their home.

    Receiving the reports, Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed his sadness and deep worry at the violent actions of the citizens, and strongly condemned the extra-judicial killings. He stressed that lawful means alone should be adopted in confronting suspicions of criminality, as the destructive practice of self-help would only result in greater harm.

    The Governor directed security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the incident, and urged citizens to maintain order.

    He cautioned against stereotyping of any sort, and appealed for consistent recourse to the constituted agencies.

    Investigations into the incident are in progress.

    PDP wins rescheduled Zango Kataf LG poll in Kaduna State

    Mr Francis Zimbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won Saturday’s rescheduled chairmanship election in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    The election was rescheduled to Saturday over security concerns.

    Declaring the results of the election on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Nuhu Garba, said Zimbo scored 28,771 votes to defeat Mr John Hassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 19,509 votes.

    “Mr Francis Zimbo of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner of the election and returned elected,’’ Prof. Garba said.

    The PDP also won nine of the 11 councillorship seats while the APC clinched the remaining two seats.

    The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State has explained in details the attack by bandits on its seminary in St. Albert Institute known as Christ the King Major Seminary.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the bandits stormed the St. Albert Institute located in Fayit, Fadan Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area of the State and attacked seminarians in the Chapel of the Seminary.

    According to a statement by the Chancellor of Kafanchan Diocese, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uche Okolo, at the time of the attack, 132 seminarians, 6 non-seminarians, one female non-academic staff and one steward were on ground.

    Rev. Fr Okolo, however, stated that six seminarians sustained various degrees of injuries, and that, contrary to our earlier report, three theology and four seminarians were abducted.

    The statement reads: “We announce with unease the kidnap of three major seminarians of the Christ the King Major Seminary, our diocesan Major Seminary domiciled within the St. Albert Institute.

    “It houses mostly the formators and seminarians preparing for the catholic priesthood. The Seminarians receive academic formation from the St. Albert Institute.

    “The event. took place on Monday, 11 October 2011 at about 7.26pm, in the Chapel of the Seminary in Fayit, Fadan Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    “As at the time of the attack to formators including the Rectors of the Seminary and the Institute, 132 seminarians, 6 non-seminarians, one female non-academic staff and one steward were on ground.

    “Six seminarians sustained various degrees of injuries. A dispatch of soldiers of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) was on ground to accompany some formators and the injured seminarians to Salem Hospital in Kafanchan. There, they were treated and discharged after being confirmed to be stable.

    “From the narrative of the seminary security agents, the law enforcement personnel and the headcount conducted after Mass on the 12 October, 2021, it was confirmed that three Theology Four seminarians were abducted. These seminarians belong to the Apostles of Divine Charity and the Little Sons of the Eucharist Congregation.

    “We ask for your closeness to us in praying for the quick and safe release of our abducted brothers. The entire well-wishers of our Institute and Seminary are hereby encouraged to desist from taking the laws into their hands. We would use every legitimate means to ensure their prompt and secure release.

    “May Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and St Wilfred intercede for our abducted brothers and all other kidnapped persons”.

    BREAKING: Gunmen attack St. Albert Seminary in Kaduna, kidnap seminarians

    St. Albert Institute of Philosophy/Christ the King Major Seminary, located at Fayit Fadan Kagoma, Southern Kaduna has been attacked and students abducted.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the seminary was attacked on Monday night by some yet to be identified gunmen, who took away five seminarians in the process.

    The gunmen, suspected to be armed bandits, in commando style, stormed the seminary owned by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan at about 8 pm (WAT).

    According to a source who spoke with TNG, the gunmen came in their numbers with sophisticated weapons, surrounded the premises of the seminary and overpowered the students.

    A recorded audio message by one of the victims, who narrowly escaped, indicated they had just finished evening prayers when the gunmen attacked, shooting sporadically.

    “They then captured about six students who were still in the church,” the male voice in the audio recording said.

    He added: “The other students who left early and were already having their dinner at the dining hall on hearing the gunshots escaped in disarray to different directions. Some ran to the nearby river where another set of students were captured”.

    TNG, however, learnt that seven students were actually kidnapped in the process, but that two students who were injured were left behind by the kidnappers, while five students were taken away.

    TNG reports the St. Albert Institute in Kaduna is a degree awarding cum major seminary, which was established by Bishop Joseph Bagobiri.

    The institute commenced academic activities in October 2011 with a pioneer students of 71 comprising 31 lay students and 40 seminarians. The institute was officially inaugurated on 17th March, 2012.

    TNG reports it took the efforts of the military, vigilantes and hunters to arrest the situation.

    The Police Command in Kaduna State, says its operatives have rescued six kidnapped victims, along Barde/Keffi Road in Kafanchan Local Government Area (LGA), of the state.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday in Kaduna.

    Jalige said that on Oct. 5, operatives of the command, on receipt of report of a kidnapping incident that occurred on Oct. 4, at about 18:30hrs, along Barde/Keffi Road, “cautiously and tactically trailed and caught up with the bandits in the forest.”

    He said the operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, forcing them to abandon their victims and scampered into the forest with bullet wounds.

    He said six of the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt.

    Jalige said that the victims had been debriefed and subsequently reunited with their respective families.

    “Concerted efforts are on high gear with a view to apprehending the fleeing bandits,” he said.

    The PRO also said the officers, alongside the army Operation Puff Adder II, on Oct. 2, acting on credible intelligence stormed Yadi forest in Fatika District of Giwa LGA, and engaged bandits in a fierce gun battle.

    He said one of the criminals was neutralised, while others fled with varying degrees of bullet injuries into the forest.

    He said the operatives recovered one AK 49 rifle, loaded with 31 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm live ammunition, one locally made rifle with one 12-guage polymer cased shotgun shell.

    He said the precision and gallantry exhibited by the officers that left the bandits in disarray were exemplary.

    “The command is calling on members of the public, especially medical practitioners, to report any person found with suspected bullet injury in the said axis for prompt action,” he said.

    Jalige said in a similar incident, the police also arrested three suspected bandits on Oct .2, and recovered a submachine gun.

    “Operatives of the command attached to Saminaka Divisional Headquarters in Lere LGA, on Oct. 2, at about 03:30hrs, acting on a credible information, carefully raided Kuwait Hotel, located in Unguwan Bawa, Saminaka, and arrested three suspects.

    “During a search of their rooms, the following items were recovered; one submachine gun (SMG) loaded with one round of 9mm live ammunition and a Department of State Services Identity Card.

    “The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court on completion of same,” he said.

    Jalige disclosed further that the command on Oct 5,also received an information that one Superintendent of Police was seen around Mamadi Layout Rigachikun Kaduna, making illegal arrest and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.

    “On receipt of the information, officers were immediately mobilised to the area and succeeded in arresting one fake police officer parading himself as SP Usman Magaji, and criminally dispossessing innocent persons of their legitimate earnings.

    “Upon investigation, two sets of neon blue police uniforms were found in his possession.

    “The suspect has since confessed to the crime and will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

    “The command is, therefore, calling on the public to report any of such persons to the nearest police formation,” he said.

    Jalige said, the command also on the same date, while investigating a case of armed robbery, arrested one suspect and recovered a complete police uniform bearing the name Pius Philips with an inspectorate cadre’s rank.

    “During the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to have been using the uniform for some nefarious activities.

    “The suspect will be charged to court after completion of investigation,” he said.

    The PPRO said the above successes were not unconnected with the renewed commitment and cordial relationships between the police and communities in the area of information sharing.

    According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mudassiru Abdullahi, appreciates the gesture.

    He urged the officers to be civil with their host communities so that the command could leverage on the renewed vigour to safeguard lives and property of law abiding citizens of the state.
