Gov. El-Rufai condemns mob-killing of two herdsmen in Kaduna

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned the killing of two herdsmen by a mob in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed that the mob forcefully seized two herders allegedly linked to banditry and killed them.

“The mob then lynched and burnt the herders, even though they had not been found complicit in the allegations,” he said.

The governor, he said, strongly expressed concern over the extra-judicial killing of the herders.

While appealing to families of the victims to remain calm, the governor directed security operatives to embark on a thorough investigation of the matter.

The Commissioner said, “The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned in the strongest terms the killing of two herders by a mob in Birnin Gwari, LGA.

“Security agencies reported that the mob forcefully seized the two herders from security personnel, on unsubstantiated claims that they were linked with banditry. The mob then lynched and burnt the herders, even though they had not been found complicit in the allegations.

“Governor El-Rufai expressed deep concern at the violent actions of the mob, and strongly condemned the extra-judicial killings. He reiterated the place of lawful methods as the only acceptable option in confronting any suspicions of criminality.

“The Governor appealed to the families of the victims to remain calm, and directed security agencies to conduct thorough investigations towards fishing out the perpetrators.

“The Governor has also directed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to liaise with the military, police and DSS to contact the victims’ families for further engagements toward averting counter-attacks.”

He added, “The Governor cautioned against further actions of self-help, and warned against dangerous stereotyping, labeling and similar lawless dispositions capable of stirring up violence. He renewed appeals for consistent recourse to constituted agencies.

“Similarly, the government has received reports from security agencies regarding the conduct of some individuals and groups in the general area, who unwittingly complicate the security situation with insensitive public commentaries. Such actions have been judged by security agencies as unhelpful in the ongoing operations against terrorists and bandits.

“While the government of Kaduna State is not against commentaries on security challenges, the government’s position remains that individuals and groups with useful information should liaise with security agencies, rather than expose citizens to extreme danger through supposed advocacy.

PDP Bigwig in Kaduna state, scores of loyalists dump party for LP

A  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  Chieftain in Gaji ward of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Babawo and scores of his loyalists dumped the party to join the Labour Party in the state ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2023.

Babawo noted that he and other persons left the PDP for LP because of many irregularities that emanated from the governorship primary election in the State.

He said  “As someone who has served the PDP from the ward to the local government as the chairman of the party, as well as the ALGON chairman of chairmen of PDP in all the 23 local government areas in the State, l have known what it takes to ensure transparency in all the processes involved in ensuring that genuine candidates emerged.”

He added, “Having seen all the irregularities in the PDP, l decided to honourably resign my membership of the party for the past three months. I decided to critically study all the political parties and discovered that the Labour Party has in its manifestos what Nigerians desire at the moment and to give hope to Nigerians at this challenging moment in the history of the country.”

He stated that most politicians were only recycling themselves from one political party to another with the desperation to be elected to continue with their questionable characters of perpetuating their anti-people programmes for their selfish reasons.

He opined, “I looked at the Labour Party and strongly believed it has the feelings of the country at heart. What Nigerians desire at the moment is by having a purposeful leadership that will unite the country irrespective of any difference.

“With the 2023 general elections around the corner, Nigerians have to open their eyes widely so that they do not elect politicians into elective positions that will worsen what the country is presently going through.”

  • PDP crisis: Nothern coalition stages protest in Kaduna, calls for Ayu’s resignation

PDP crisis: Nothern coalition stages protest in Kaduna, calls for Ayu’s resignation

Coalition of the Northern Nigeria Peoples Democratic Party Youth Movement, on Friday protested at the PDP Secretariat in Kaduna, demanding the resignation of National Chairman of the party, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu.

Newsmen reports that the PDP is currently hit by crisis after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerged the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Some PDP governors and leaders, particularly from southern Nigeria were insistent that for fairness, northern Nigeria should not hold both the party’s presidential ticket and national chairmanship position.

Leading in the struggle for resignation of Ayu, who is from the North Central, is Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other leaders of the party from southern Nigeria.

Spokesperson/Leader of the Coalition, Mr Shehu Isa-Dan’Inna, said they had been in PDP since 1999 without defection and had no plans to decamp even in the future.

He said for the PDP to win Presidential seat in the coming 2023 elections, the party Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu must resign from his position as he had promised to.

Isa-Dan’Inna said for the PDP to project transparency as it had always done, the North could not hold about three key positions in the party.

“PDP is not a Northern Peoples Democratic Party nor Southern Peoples Democratic Party, we have to be just and united, to enable us to win at various levels in the coming 2023 general elections,” he said .

He noted that Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman must go, to fulfill the promise he made that he would resign immediately after the parties primary elections if a Northerner emerged the party’s flag bearer.

Isa-Dan’Inna said they were reminding Ayu to fulfill his promise because they were tired of opposition.

He said the country needed back the PDP at the helms of its affairs for overall wellbeing of Nigerians.

“If the PDP’s internal crises persist, I don’t think we will win the presidential election.

“About six governors are fighting one governor; in the South we have about four presidential aspirants cut across different parties which will reduce our votes, and the rulling party again which is strong,” he said

“The other man is also so strong, we don’t want to devide our votes, that is why we are calling on Sen. Iyorchia Ayu to resign.

“It will be better wise for us to loose Ayu as the PDP Chairman and clinch the President seat, than to leave him and loose the presidency”, Isa-Dan’Inna said.

He called on the PDP Board of Trustees, National Working Committee and the PDP caccus to be just and fair in order to get the party to victory.

“If Ayu should keep to his promise, victory will surely be ours and Nigerians will smile again, the party leaders must act to salvage Nigerians, we don’t want to continue suffering,”he said.

Newsmen recall that the crisis got deeper on Wednesday, when loyalists to Wike’s caucus pulled out of the Abubakar presidential campaign council after a meeting in Portharcourt, Rivers.

Newsmen report that the protesters carried placards with inscriptions reading: “Ayu Must Go”, “Ayu must step down”, “We need justice, and fairness for all”.

Kaduna govt issues warning over move to block Kaduna-Abuja highway

The Kaduna State Government, on Tuesday, said it would not condone any attempt by any person or group to block the Kaduna-Abuja highway in the name of protest.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, stated in a statement issued in Kaduna, that the move was unacceptable and a prelude to breakdown of law and order.

“By this notice, individuals or groups planning to restrict citizens’ movements are advised to desist in the interest of public peace.

“While the Kaduna state government is not depriving citizens the right to express discontent, public security and safety must always be the foremost consideration.

“The danger of barricading a strategic route like the Kaduna-Abuja road is better appreciated within the context of ongoing security operations covering the route and other areas of interest.

“Keen attention must also be given to the possibility of certain gatherings degenerating into violence.

“Citizens are therefore strongly advised against participating in such processions, particularly those which will impact the normal socio-economic activities of other citizens, or expose lives to unnecessary danger.

“Citizens may kindly be reminded that collective security should remain the first and most important consideration at all times,” Aruwan said.

The commissioner, therefore, said individuals, unions and other groups should take note of the advisory and keep off the road.
