    How two women fetched, carried guns for kidnappers in Kaduna [+Photo]

    Two women have been arrested for their involvement in the illegal possession and illicit sale of prohibited firearms.

    The Nigeria Police Force arrested Hafsat Adamu, 24, and Aisha Ibrahim, 30, alongside nine others for aiding and perpetrating violent crimes including kidnapping and armed robbery in the north-western region of the country.

    A statement signed by the spokesperson of the force, Frank Mba, revealed that the 11-man- syndicate relied on the women to carry out their operations.

    According to the police, the suspects rely on them to “transport their weapons from one point to another, taking advantage of the innocuous look and sentiments associated with their gender”.

    Meanwhile, the police said they also arrested a trans-national car theft syndicate specialized in stealing cars from Nigeria and smuggling the same to the Niger Republic and other neighboring countries.

    The statement revealed that a total of 15 cars were recovered as well as two jamming devices used by the suspects in moving the stolen vehicles undetected.

    According to the statement, the police recently arrested a total of 34 suspects including 32-male and 2-female were arrested.

    Also, it recovered 11 high-calibre grenades, 11 sophisticated firearms and 389 AK-47 ammunition, amongst others.

    “All the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of investigations,” the statement read.

    Troops of Operation Safe Haven say some unidentified persons have attacked Ungwan Taila village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during which two residents died.

    The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Aruwan said the troops arrived in the village to find that the assailants had killed two residents

    He said: “Receiving the report, Governor Nasir el-Rufai expressed deep regret at further loss of life from such attacks in the area.

    “He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to their family.

    “In the meantime, the troops will continue search-and-rescue operations in the area.

    “Citizens will be briefed on further updates.”

    Pope Francis condemns Kaduna’s bloodbath; begs Buhari to end killings in Nigeria

    Pope Francis has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to end the insecurity and killings of Nigerians.

    The Rome Report, a Vatican daily, quoted the Pope as making the call during his usual Wednesday General Audience at the Vatican City.

    The paper said the Pope denounced insecurity, especially in northern Nigeria.

    Lamenting what he described as senseless killings of Nigerians by suspected jihadists, the Pope urged the Federal Government to guarantee the safety of all citizens.

    He expressed “prayerful solidarity” with Nigerians over the last weekend’s killing of over 40 people by armed bandits in Southern Kaduna.

    “I learnt with pain the news of the armed attacks that took place last Sunday against the villages of Madamai Abun in Northern Nigeria.

    “I pray for those who have died, for those who have been injured and for the entire Nigerian population. I hope that the safety of all citizens in the country will always be guaranteed,” the Pope said.

    El-Rufai shutdown telecoms services in parts of Kaduna, bans motorcycles

    Kaduna State Government has shut down telecommunication services in some parts of the state as part of critical measures towards ending banditry in their identified hideouts.

    The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the decision was taken on Wednesday after a meeting with relevant federal agencies who recommended the shutting down of telecom services ahead of the commencement of military onslaught against bandits.

    He explained that the shutting down of telecom services is part of many steps taken to address the current security situation in Kaduna State and neighbouring states in the North-West and North-Central regions.

    “The relevant federal agencies have today informed the Kaduna State Government that the processes for telecoms shutdown in parts of the state have commenced,” Mr Aruwan said.

    “As part of the steps to address the current security situation in Kaduna State and neighbouring states in the North-West and North Central, Kaduna State State Government has held several meetings with security agencies to adopt critical measures towards crushing bandits in identified hideouts”.

    The commissioner also announced the immediate ban of commercial and private motorcycles for a period of three months across the state as well as the regulation of the schedule for commercial tricycle operators from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.

    In addition, he said all commercial tricycles are to remove curtains in their tricycles.

    Similarly, the government said all vehicles used for commercial transportation must be painted in yellow and black within 30 days, while vehicles used for hiring services are to carry yellow and black stripes.

    Other measures put in place according to the Commissioner, include the ban on the sale of petrol in jerry cans or other containers in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Chikun, Igabi, Kachia, Kagarko and Kajuru Local Government Areas.

    The government appealed to residents to endure the severe strain and inconvenience the security measures will place on peaceful and law-abiding citizens, adding that difficult times have demanded that difficult decisions be made.

    Eight killed, six injured in another reprisal attacks on Kaduna LG

    At least eight people have been killed in a reprisal attacks in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    Six other persons were also injured, and several houses razed by the attackers during the incident which occurred on Sunday.

    The attack, according to the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, Samuel Aruwan, was carried out by unidentified persons in Kacecere village of Zangon Kataf.

    Arunwa explained that the attack was in reprisal to earlier attacks in Jankasa village, also in Zangon Kataf where one Yakubu Danjuma was killed, and another assault in Madamai in Kaura LGA where 34 persons were killed.

    The attacks in these two locations, security agencies say, led to the reprisal by unidentified assailants on Kacecere community which has left eight dead, six persons injured and several houses razed.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG had earlier reported that no fewer than 34 people were killed following a fresh attack by gunmen on Madami village in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    Seven other persons are said to have sustained injuries in the attack while some houses were set ablaze during the operation which occurred on Sunday night.

    Aruwan, who also confirmed the incident, said troops mobilised to the location and engaged the bandits in a gun battle before the assailants withdrew after intense pressure.

    The commissioner disclosed that two suspects are being questioned in connection with the attack, adding that security agencies are already conducting operations in the general area.

    He also said that the troops were able to put out the fire at three of the burning houses, while six locals were rescued from the inferno.

    Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has condemned the attack, describing it as an unspeakable display of wickedness, meriting the severest form of punishment.

    El-Rufai, who promised that the Kaduna State Government would bear the full cost of the injured victims’ treatment, also ordered an urgent assessment of the area by the State Emergency Management Agency, towards the provision of succor to the affected households.

    The governor, however, appealed for calm and charged security agencies to intensify their efforts in the campaign against the gratuitous killing of innocent citizens.

    The Police Command in Kaduna State said its operatives have arrested five suspected kidnappers.

    The command also said that another suspect was killed in a botched kidnap attempt in Zaria on Monday.

    The Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige made the development known in a statement on Monday in Kaduna.

    Jalige said the command on Sept. 26, at about 0300hrs acted on credible intelligence to the fact that an 18 seater bus was conveying suspected rustled cows heading to yet to be identified destination along Barde–Keffi Road.

    “Based on the information, operatives of the command attached to Kafanchan Division swung into action and intercepted the said vehicle and arrested the five suspects.

    “Among the suspects arrested is a notorious kidnapper, who has been on the command’s wanted list and the 13 rustled cows was recovered from him,” he said.

    Jalige said that in the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime while the owner of the cows was identified from Uddah Village and the cattles were handed over to him.

    The PPRO also disclosed that the officers foiled a kidnap attempt by one of the bandits.

    “On Sept. 27, at 0030hrs the command received a distress call through the Divisional Police Officer, Zaria City that some bandits in large number invaded the residence of one person at Nagoyi Quarters, Zaria in their desperate attempt to kidnap the occupant of the house.

    “On getting the information, a team of police men alongside members of vigilante services led by the DPO rushed to the area and engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

    “As a result, one bandit was neutralised while others took to their heels with bullet wounds abandoning their mission,” he said.

    He said that the corpse of the bandit has been deposited at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Teaching Hospital, Shika.

    Jalige urged the public to report any person with suspected bullet injury to the nearest police formation for prompt action.

    VAT, insecurity top agenda as Northern Governors, traditional rulers meet in Kaduna

    The Northern Governors’ Forum and traditional rulers from the region are holding an emergency meeting in Kaduna State.

    Top on the agenda at the meeting are issues relating to the Value Added Tax (VAT), insecurity and economic problems confronting the region.

    The meeting, which is taking place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Kaduna State Government House, is chaired by the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong.

    Those in attendance include the governors of Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Nasarawa, Jigawa and Gombe.

    The governors of Niger, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Zamfara and Taraba states are represented by their deputies.

    Also present are the Sultan of Sokoto and the Chairman of Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Abubakar Saad.

    The Shehu of Borno, the Emir of Zazzau, Nuhu Bamali, Estu Nupe, Emir of Kano and other royal fathers are also attending the meeting.

    In his remark, the host governor, Nasir El-Rufai said the northern region is facing severe economic and security challenges that require the convening of the emergency meeting between the governors and traditional rulers.

    According to El-Rufai, the forum will help chart a way forward to deal with these issues.

    While highlighting the agenda for the meeting, the chairman of the forum, Simon Lalong, disclosed that the governors will take a common position on VAT collection and the surrounding controversies.

    10 more kidnapped Bethel Baptist School students freed

    Ten more abducted students of Bethel Baptist Secondary school in Kaduna State have regained their freedom.

    This is the fourth batch of the students released so far by their abductors.

    While the police are yet to confirm the development, however a top official of the school said the 10 students were released on Sunday afternoon, after an unspecified amount of money was paid as ransom to the kidnappers.

    He also expressed optimism that the bandits will release the remaining eleven kidnapped students still in captivity in no distant time.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that a total of 121 students of Bethel Baptist Secondary school in Chikun Local Government Area of the state were abducted by bandits from their hostels on July 5, 2021.

    The students were later released in batches after their parents reportedly paid ransoms to their abductors.

    Some bandits on Sunday invaded the Evangelical Church of Winning All, Gavaciwa in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing a worshipper while scores were injured.

    Also, in another attack, bandits killed one Nasiru Abdullahi of Gobirawan Kamacha in Bina General area of Igabi Local Government Area.

    The state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the attacks, quoted the Governor Nasir El-Rufai to have condemned the attacks and the loss of lives.

    Aruwan further quoted El-Rufai to have said that the attack on the worshippers was a divisive intent of the criminals who play on religious sensitivity.

    The commissioner said, “The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned in the strongest terms an attack against worshippers on Sunday morning by gunmen.

    “Security agencies reported to the Government that the attack occurred at ECWA Church, Gabaciwa in Kachia local government.

    “According to the report, a life was lost and some worshippers were seriously injured, who have been rushed to a medical facility.

    “The security agencies are obtaining further details, on which the government will update the public in due course.

    “The governor who expressed sadness over the incident, described it as an evil act targeting innocent citizens exercising their constitutional and universal rights to religious freedom.

    “The Governor added that the attack on the worshippers was a divisive intent of the criminals leveraging religious sensitivity.

    “The governor condoled the ECWA Church and the family of the deceased in particular, and prayed for the repose of the soul of the worshipper.”

    He said governor had directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency to asses the area and provide succour to the victims currently receiving medical attention.

    Similarly, the commissioner said the governor also condoled the family of one Nasiru Abdullahi of Gobirawan Kamacha in Bina General Area of Igabi local government who was killed by bandits.

    “The governor also prayed for the repose of his soul.
