    Gunmen kill Chief Imam, two others in fresh Kaduna attack

    The Chief Imam of Kawaran Rafi village in Igabi Local Government Area, Sheik Danleeman Isah has been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits during an attack on the village.

    The bandits according to the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said in a statement issued on Saturday that the bandits invaded the village and moved straight to the Chief Imam’s residence, and in what appears to be a pre-meditated attack, shot him dead and left the location without taking any items or hostages.

    He said the murder of the cleric has been linked to his vocal stance against the killing and kidnapping of citizenry by bandits.

    In a similar development, bandits also killed the Ardo Musa Layi of Kajuru local government, who was kidnapped by armed men in October 2020 for his advocacy against killing, kidnapping and cattle rustling.

    In another development, security agencies have reported the murder of the Sarkin Yaki of Godogodo, Mr Yohanna Abu, by a gang of kidnappers.

    According to the report, the gunmen attacked Nisama village in Jema’a local government area late on Friday night and abducted Mr Abu along with another resident Mr Charles Audu.

    A struggle ensued between the duo and the kidnappers, and while Mr Audu was able to escape, the kidnappers shot Mr Abu dead.

    The Commissioner disclosed that five persons have been arrested in connection with the killing, as security agencies continue to investigate the incident.

    Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed sadness at the reports, praying for the repose of the souls of the slain cleric and community leader, as he conveyed his heartfelt condolences to their families.

    Kaduna govt demolishes building used for sex party, arrests organisers

    Following the arrest of organisers of the maiden edition of the Kaduna sex party, the building that would have hosted the event, has been demolished.

    Officials of the Kaduna State Urban State Urban Planning Development Agency carried out the exercise.

    According to the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Nuhu Garba, the property located at Sabon Tasha in Chikun Local Government Area of the state, was pulled down on Thursday.

    This, he said, was in accordance with the laws guiding the agency over properties in the state.

    Garba said, “The law has vested the agency the power to demolish any building that contravenes the rights of occupancy.

    “For instance, if a residential building is turned into something other than the purpose it was meant, the law gives us the power to demolish such property especially if it’s against the public interest.

    “We are in Narayi (another suburb) too to carry out a similar assignment. We are currently demolishing another building that promotes illicit acts.”

    Recall that the Kaduna State Police Command had on Wednesday said it made some arrests in connection to the maiden edition of Kaduna sex party in the state.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, had said operatives were able to trace the venue and made some arrests.

    The party, which received high publicity on social media and slated for December 27, 2020, at an undisclosed venue in the capital, was aborted.

    Part of the requirements by participants on the invitation obtained by our correspondent was that males and females were expected to be naked.

    The kidnapped chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Kaduna State, Apostle Emmanuel Bako and his wife, Cindy have regained freedom from their abductors.

    The cleric and his wife were kidnapped on Friday Evening at Albarka praying camp in Jema’a Local Government.

    But in a statement on Sunday, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the PFN chairman and his wife had been released.

    Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed his relief and happiness over the development and offered his best wishes to the cleric and his wife.

    Bandits invade Kaduna market; kill seven, destroy properties

    Armed bandits sneaked into the Galadimawa Market, in Giwa local government area of Kaduna State, and killed two vigilantes, five others.

    330 bags of maize were also burnt by the bandits.

    According to Samuel Aruwan, the state’s Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the tragic incident happened at about 4 pm on Wednesday evening.

    A statement released by Aruwan on Thursday identified the two vigilantes killed as Yusuf Magaji Iyatawa
    and Dabo Bafillace.

    While running for safety, the five citizens killed include:
    1. Danjuma Haladu
    2. Shuaibu Isyaku
    3. Isyaku Adamu
    4. Shehu Dalhatu
    5. Musa Haruna Kerawa

    A commercial trailer driver, one Alhaji Yusuf Tumburku who had just loaded 330 bags of maize belonging to a trader, Alhaji Hamza Ungwan Lalle Giwa, also had his vehicle and the grains burnt to ashes.

    One other car was also burnt by the armed bandits.

    However, Aruwan noted that security agencies comprising the police and troops gave the armed bandits a hot pursuit while they escaped out of the general area.

    He added that the ground troops are still carrying out clearance operations in the Galadimawa and Kidandan general areas.

    Meanwhile, the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has sent condolences to the families that lost their loved ones and commended the military and police for neutralizing some of the armed bandits.

    The Governor charged locals in the Galadimawa and Kidandan general areas of Giwa local government to continue to volunteer useful information to the government and security agencies.

    El-Rufai sacks Education Secretaries in all 23 Kaduna LGAs

    Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has sacked education secretaries in the 23 local government areas of the state.

    El-Rufai on Tuesday explained that there was a need to adjust personnel cost, and deepen reforms in the education sector in the state.

    According to the statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, entitled, ‘KDSG removes GM, LG education secretaries,’ El-Rufai said the General Manager of Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) has also been removed.

    The statement, also confirmed Mrs. Saude Amina Atoyebi’s appointment as their acting General Manager of CSDA, adding that “she will combine this responsibility with her role as head of the State Social Investment Office until a new GM is recruited through a competitive, advertised process.”

    “The most senior official in the Education Department of each LGA will act as Education Secretary until substantive appointments are announced,” the statement further said.

    The statement further added that Saude joined the government in 2015 and has served as Senior Special Assistant (Administration) to Governor El-Rufai, adding that she “was appointed in 2019 as State Focal Person on Social Investment.”‌

    It added, “Saude began working for Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in 2012 as a researcher for his acclaimed budget series. She served as secretary of the Finance sub-committee of the 2015 Kaduna State Transition Committee before her appointment as the governor’s Personal Secretary and Senior Special Assistant, Administration.

    “In these roles, she has provided support for the running of the Governor’s Office and has sometimes covered the duties of the Principal Private Secretary.

    “Saude graduated in Economics from ABU Zaria, close to her Wusasa roots, before taking a master’s degree in Advertising and Marketing from Coventry University, United Kingdom.

    “She has attended the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Programme on Adaptive Leadership and the Agha Khan University’s Voice of Leadership programme,” the statement said.

    Fresh ‘reprisal attacks’ claim seven lives in two Kaduna LGs, El-Rufai reacts

    No fewer than seven people have been killed in what security agencies described as reprisal attacks in Kauru and Lere Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

    The fresh killings which occurred on Saturday came barely two days after seven other people were murdered by gunmen in Zango Kataf LGA.

    The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incidents in a statement hours after the attacks occurred.

    He said the counter-attacks occurred in some herders’ settlements in Kauru and Lere LGA.

    Quoting the operational feedback from the security agencies, the commissioner confirmed that the attacks were carried out by aggrieved youths following the killing of seven persons at Gora Gan in Zangon Kataf.

    The security agencies reported that seven people were killed in a counter-killing in Ungwan Idi and Kasheku villages of Kauru LGA while two herders were injured at Ningi village in Lere LGA.

    Aruwa also noted that troops were searching for five persons whose whereabouts were unknown after the attack, while six huts were burnt in the incident.

    In his reaction, Governor Nasir El-Rufai condemned the renewed counter-killings and extended his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

    He also wished those recuperating a speedy recovery, describing the renewed killing and counter-killing of innocent citizens of Atyap and Fulani ethnicity as unfortunate.

    The governor decried the resort to violence, noting that it was not a solution to grievances and disputes but a tragic way to escalate matters and drag people into more pains and misery.

    He directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected families with immediate effect.

    BREAKING: El-rufai orders closure of all public, private schools in Kaduna

    Kaduna State government has asked all public and private schools to close on Wednesday 16th December, over what it described as “rising cases of Covid-19 infections” in the state.

    State commissioner of Education Dr Shehu Usman-Mohammed disclosed this in a public notice on Monday evening.

    According to the commissioner, the state ministry of health has further confirmed that new wave of Covid-19 has affected residents of he States who are between the age of 10 and 35 and forms a majority of the populace in the education sector in the state.

    The notice ordered the schools to conclude examinations before Tuesday 15th December 2020.

    “…. physical classes in the University and other Institutions of higher learning will not be held during the period of closure. Institutions can make arrangements for teaching and learning and other activities in line with their continuity and contingency plans…..”

    “…. In order to minimise the impact on teaching and learning, all schools will continue to plan lessons and where possible provide online resources for students or online lessons where schools are equipped to so….” The notice added.

    Thugs disrupt security conference in Kaduna, attack organisers

    Hoodlums suspected to be hired thugs on Monday disrupted a planned conference organised by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) over the rising insecurity in the region.

    The hoodlums invaded the popular Arewa House, the venue of the press conference a few minutes before the event could kick-off, and attacked the organisers of the security conference.

    The hoodlums also destroyed chairs, tables and also smashed windscreens of vehicles parked within the premises of the event.

    Condemning the attack and disruption of the conference by the hoodlums, the national coordinator of CNG, Balarabe Rufai described the hoodlums as enemies of the North.

    He vowed that no amount of attack or threat will stop the Coalition from speaking out against the rising security challenges in the north.

    He explained that the aim of the security conference is for the stakeholders to come together and brainstorm on ways to address the rising cases of banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping that have taken over the northern region.

    He also disclosed that they have identified some known faces among the hoodlums, and will therefore ensure that they are arrested and prosecuted for invading a lawful gathering aimed at discussing issues affecting the northern region.

    Kaduna State Police Command had arrested 30-year-old man called Kabiru Suleiman (husband), his wife 19-year-old wife, Aisha Musa and one Salamatu Musa, 27 – all resident of Abuja Road Rigasa over alleged stealing of three-day-old boy.

    Spokesman for Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Jalige Muhammed, who revealed this on Friday said, the couple committed the offence on November 9.

    According to Jalige, “on November 9, 2020, the Kaduna State Police Command received a complaint of a missing three (3) days old baby boy.

    “On receipt of the complaint, the operatives of the command immediately swung into action, gathered sufficient intelligence and succeeded in arresting the suspects namely; Kabiru Suleiman 30yrs (Husband), Aisha Musa 19yrs (Wife) and Salamatu Musa 27yrs of age all resident of Abuja Road Rigasa.

    “It is worthy to note that the suspects started nurturing the evil plan during early period of the pregnancy by coming closer to the expectant mother in the guise of friendship and succeeded in whisking away the baby three days after delivery to unknown destination.

    “The suspects were arrested by the Command’s Operatives on 26th November, 2020 at about 1300hrs in their hideout at Unguwan Baraya Jos Road Bauchi, Bauchi state and recovered the baby safely and subsequently handed him over to his parents.

    “Upon investigation the suspects confessed to the crime and will be charge to court to face the consequences of their action.

    “In light of the above, the Commissioner of Police Kaduna Command, CP Umar M. Muri is calling on the people of Kaduna State to be wary of whom they entrust their Children and wards, to avoid the repeat of such incident as children are precious gift from God which should be guided with all level solemnity”, he added.

    Gunmen kill two, abduct scores in Kaduna

    Some gunmen allegedly attacked Rigasa community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State and killed two persons while an unspecified number of locals were abducted.

    The incident which took place on Friday along the Kaduna International Airport and Rigasa Railway Station, left one some persons critically wounded.

    The gunmen were said to have opened fire at motorists along the road on Friday. In the process, three friends who were said to be travelling together fell victim.

    Two of those shot by the gunmen were identified as Rabiu Auwal and Umar El-Khaddab. They were rushed to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, where Auwal died as a result of gunshot wounds in his chest while El-Khaddab was still battling for his life.

    A source said the location of one Ismail Muhammed was still unknown after the attack.

    It was gathered that Muhammad might have been among those abducted by the gunmen who were yet to establish contact with any of his family members.

    Meanwhile, the remains of Auwal was laid to rest on Saturday at Rigasa Cemetery according to Islamic rites.

    Also, the remains of an elderly man said to be a victim of the same attack were buried in the Rigasa Cemetery.

    The source said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Goronyo, also escaped the attack by whiskers.
