    INSECURITY! Bandits abduct 15 More women in Kaduna

    Terrorists, in the early hours of Saturday, launched a fresh attack on the Dogon-noma community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and abducted 15 women and a man.

    The attack came barely three days after one person was killed, and eight women were kidnapped in the Banono Angwaku community of the same local government council.

    A resident of the area, Mr Istifanus Ma’aji, confirmed the figure to newsmen.

    The former chairman of the council, Cafra Caino, had earlier confirmed the fresh attack.

    Istifanus could only confirm that 15 women and a man were kidnapped.

    He said, “We cannot authoritatively confirm the total figure, because most of the villagers ran for their lives when the attackers struck.

    “We can only confirm the figure when we can access the village.”According to him, the attackers invaded the village around 5.30am in large numbers and shot indiscriminately.

    Caino said, “We have yet to get the number of casualties because the locals ran for their lives when the assailants invaded the community.

    “The community had some time in 2019 come under heavy attack, leading to the loss of 74 persons; the community has recently been experiencing attacks.”

    The Kajuru and Chikun local government areas had in recent weeks become the hotbed of attacks and kidnapping, causing tension in the state.

    When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, did not take his calls and had yet to respond to text messages sent to him on the attack as of the time of filing this report.

    Kaduna govt reacts to report of hiring private negotiator to free abducted school children

    Kaduna State Government on Saturday dismissed a report that it hired a private negotiator to facilitate the safe return of children abducted from Kuriga community on Thursday as false and mischievous.

    Assailants attacked the community located on the Kaduna Birnin-Gwari Road, abducted 100 pupils including the head teacher in a primary school, and took away 187 students from a secondary school.

    “The attention of Kaduna State Government has been drawn to the outright mischievous and false report by a newspaper on Saturday,’’ Mr Muhammad Shehu, media aide to Gov. Uba Sani, stated.

    “The report stated that the state government has hired a private negotiator to facilitate the safe return of school children abducted in Kuriga community in Chikun Local Government Area.

    “We wish to state categorically that the Kaduna State Government did not hire any private negotiator; neither is it contemplating to make such move.

    “The Kaduna State Government has a clear policy on non-negotiation with terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements.

    “We urge the press to be cautious in the way they craft their stories on security matters so as not to jeopardise government’s efforts at degrading criminals laying siege to our communities,’’ Shehu added

    Two killed, many abducted as gunmen storm Kaduna mosque during prayers

    A Mosque located in Angwar Makera, Kwasakwasa Community in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State was on Friday attacked by gunmen, leaving at least two persons dead.

    Findings shows that the incident happened around 2 pm during the Friday prayers.

    A community leader, Hudu Kwasakwasa who confirmed the incident to journalists, said  the bandits stormed the Mosque and opened fire on the worshipers.

    “The two worshipers killed were among other Muslims attacked at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera when the bandits opened fire on them and abducted others today.

    The victims have been buried at Old Kuyello cemetery,” he said.

    He said the people were in the second raka’at of the salat when they were attacked, which forced the remaining people to run for their lives.

    He added that a few days ago, the same bandits abducted about 9 people at a community called Angwar Kanawa under Kwasakwasa area.

    Recall that the latest attack occurred barely 24 hours after the daredevil bandits abducted over 287 students in the neighboring Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

    The Kaduna Police Command is yet to officially commemt on the matter  at of the time of filing this report.

    BREAKING: Confusion in Kaduna as Bandits attack School, Abduct scores of Pupils

    Bandits have reportedly attacked a government primary school at Kuriga community of the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting scores of pupils.

    The community is located along the Kaduna Birnin-Gwari Road which has been terrorised by bandits for many years.

    The police authorities and the Kaduna State government are yet to confirm the incident but a local source told Channels Television that the bandits invaded the school at 8:30am on Thursday and took away many pupils including the head teacher.

    He said that many students sustained injuries as they attempt to flee the school on sighting the bandits.

    Bandit attacks in the North-West part of the country has been on the increase in recent times, with resident taking to the streets to protest the ugly trend.

    On Tuesday, residents of the Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State embarked on yet another protest over the incessant bandit attacks in their community.

    Gov. Sani inaugurates committee to resettle displaced Southern Kaduna communities

    Gov. Uba Sani on Monday inaugurated a 10-member committee to resettle displaced communities of Southern Kaduna affected by various incidents of insecurity.

    Speaking during the inauguration, Sani who was represented by his deputy, Dr Hadiza Balarabe said the move was in response to a recommendation by the State Security Council on Nov. 8, 2023.

    He said that the deputy governor would chair the 10-member committee.

    He stressed the importance of the committee’s task and responsibility towards the affected persons displaced from their homes due to various challenges.

    “The Southern part of Kaduna has seen its fair share of displacement due to incidents of violence plaguing the state.

    “The plight of these displaced persons weighs heavily on our collective conscience, and it is crucial that we take decisive action to address their needs and facilitate their resettlement,” he said.

    He said the primary objective is to devise comprehensive strategies for their effective resettlement by facilitating access to basic amenities, healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

    “We must prioritise the restoration of their sense of dignity and belonging within their communities.

    “It is crucial that we approach this task with empathy, sensitivity, fairness, sense of urgency and a commitment to inclusivity.

    “We must actively engage the displaced communities, by listening to their voices, understanding their concerns, and involving them in the decision-making processes that affected their lives,” he said.

    Sani said this could be achieved by fostering a participatory approach, and ensuring that government efforts are truly responsive to the needs and aspirations of those it seeks to assist.

    He said government would also leverage on the expertise and resources available through partnership with relevant stakeholders, non-governmental and community-based organisations and humanitarian agencies.

    “Collaboration is the key to our success, as we work towards the common goal of facilitating the dignified return and sustainable reintegration of displaced persons into their communities.

    “Together, we have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our fellow citizens. I am confident that with collective efforts, we can achieve our objectives and bring hope and stability to those in need,” Sani said.

    He described the committee members as tested and proven who would bring their experience to bear to achieve the set objective.

    The Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and the Chairmen of Jema’a, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas, are members of the committee, among others.

    Recruitment: Police announce 39 CBT examination centres in Kaduna

    The Police Command in Kaduna State has announced 39 Computer-Based Test (CBT), centers for the 2022 Nigeria Police Force Recruitment.

    The recruitment is for Police Constables, scheduled from March 5 to March 6.

    The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan announced the CBT examination centres in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Hassan said the command wished to notify residents of the state who applied for the 2022 police recruitment that the Police Service Commission, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, would be finalising the ongoing 2022 recruitment exercise nationwide.

    “The CBT for Kaduna state residents will take place from Tuesday, March 5, to Wednesday, March, 6 at the specified venues.

    “Only those who have successfully passed will take the examination. participants in the screening exercise should visit https://apply.policerecruitment.gov.ng to print their schedule slip, showing the venue, date, and time of the aptitude/CBT test.”

    He disclosed that the venue and examination centre are divided into four.
    He said the four centres included , Kaduna metropolis centre which has 24 sub centers , Zaria centre 10, Kafanchan centre has two, and Soba centre has three.

    Hassan said the Commissioner of Police(CP), in Kaduna state, Mr Ali Dabigi directed all Area Commanders, State Intelligence Department’s Operatives (SID), personnel from Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD), and Divisional Police Officers to locate and provide adequate security coverage for the centers within their jurisdiction.

    ” They are to collaborate with JAMB officials, staff of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Police Service Commission, and all other relevant government agencies tasked with supervising the test for a smooth exercise.

    ” Dabigi extends his best wishes for success to every candidate and urges them to conduct themselves honorably throughout the exam period, ” Hassan said.

    Following the attack by bandits on the night of Wednesday, February 28th, 2024, angry residents of Goningora in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway following the attack on the community by bandits.

    Angry residents took to the streets on Thursday morning, blocking Abuja-Kaduna highway.

    The development has caused heavy traffic on the road, with many motorists left stranded.

    Two people including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force were reportedly killed in the attack.

    This comes barely a week after soldiers killed a notorious bandit Kingpin, Boderi Isyaku and some of his fighters in the same Chikun local government.

    Suspected Lassa Fever Outbreak: KDSG orders prompt investigation

    The attention of the Kaduna State Government has been drawn to suspected outbreak of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever popularly known as “Lassa Fever” at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.

    This is contained in a statement by Muhammad Shehu, Chief Press Secretary to the Kaduna State Governor on Thursday.

    According to him, Gov. Uba Sani has directed the Kaduna State Ministry of Health to immediately investigate and ascertain the situation at the health facility.

    He said “consequently, a surveillance team was promptly mobilised to assess the situation and containment measures initiated alongside the hospital management.

    “Currently, four deaths have been recorded within the hospital premises, while three other patients with similar symptoms are being managed.

    “The Kaduna State Ministry of Health and management of the hospital
    are working assiduously to contain the situation, those who came into contact with those infected identified and closely monitored and provided urgent medical treatment.

    “Samples have been carefully collected from contacts and sent for confirmation to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control laboratory and are closely being followed up.

    “Additionally, all Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures have been instituted at the facility, while it remains closed to the public, until full containment has been achieved.”

    With symptoms such as fever, general body weakness and after a few days, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, chest pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, cough, and abdominal pain, the public has been urged to maintain proper food and environmental hygiene, vigilant and report suspected cases to the nearest health facility.

    The Kaduna State Ministry of Health has further been directed to enhance surveillance, in collaboration with local government health departments.

    Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Kaduna reduces waiting time by 75% — Medical Director

    The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Barnawa-Kaduna said it has reduced waiting time at the emergency unit by 75 per cent to improve service delivery.

    The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Aishatu Yusha’u- Armiya’u, disclosed this on Sunday in Kaduna.

    She said in order to improve service delivery for the hospital at the emergency unit, the hospital was now equipped with additional consulting rooms, pharmacy unit, laboratory service unit, social welfare services and additional beds for emergency patient admission.

    The medical director added that the hospital was equally credited with the creation of a patients’ restraining team that was adequately equipped with working tools and professional staff.
    She said, ” This innovation represents the first of its kind in all health institutions in the country.

    ” The general outpatients’ department (GOPD) of the hospital has been decongested.

    ”This was done through clear assignment of patients visiting days and time which allows doctors adequate time to properly interact with patients and clients in a work friendly environment.”

    Yusha’u-Armiya’u also said the hospital was minimizing patients waiting time and to achieve accelerated services delivery, additional cashiers and payment points have been created.

    ” These services include the provision of point of sale (POS) for ease of financial transactions between the hospital and clients,” she added.

    According to her, the hospital now offers dialysis services with psychotherapy for both non aseptic and Aseptic cases.
    Yusha’u-Armiya’u said, ” This service represents the first of its kind nationwide. The additional psychotherapy has greatly addressed the usual psychological trauma being experienced by patients receiving dialysis.

    ” The hospital now offers modern sophisticated X-ray and ultrasound services as part of expansion in service delivery within the hospital.”

    The medical director also said the hospital now has a well equipped and functional bimolecular laboratory for handling highly infectious biological samples and biomedical research.

    Yusha’u-Armiya’u said the institution has a functional website and renders professional front desk services which were created to inform and educate the public, both at home and abroad on the activities and services rendered by the institution.
