Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State says the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will enhance the credibility of the 2023 general election.

He said this on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at Cikin-Gari Ward, Unit 008 at Ganduje in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

Ganduje noted that the measure was one of the innovations toward achieving sustainable electoral reforms to accelerate national development.

2023: Kano PDP faction joins NNPP

A faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has dumped the party for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

This is contained in a statement by Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, Spokesman of the NNPP Campaign Council, on Sunday in Kano.

The statement said the decampees were received into the fold of the NNPP by its National Chairman,  Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, and the party’s presidential candidate running mate, Isaac Idahosa, at a ceremony held in Kano.

It quoted the PDP factional leader, Shehu Sagagi as saying that they dumped the party due to lack of internal democracy and nepotism by its national leadership.

Sagagi said that he defected alongside 36 state executive members, over 700 local government executives, 8,000 ward executives, 44 national delegates and 1,452 ward delegates.

“Politics is a game of numbers, we are optimistic that the NNPP Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will take us to victory at both national and state level.

“The PDP sabotaged itself in states like Kano by allowing the likes of Sen. Kwankwaso to defect in spite of his massive followership not only in the state but the nation at large.

“To us this is a home coming, we are real politicians and we have joined a political party that plays real politics.

“I am happy to rejoin Sen. Kwankwaso once again a year after our departure,” Sagagi was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement also quoted Alkali as congratulating the decampees for the wise decision to join the NNPP.

It further quoted Idahosa as saying that the NNPP with its massive support and historic defection would emerged victorious at the polls.

The Labour Party (LP) in Kano State, has dismissed claims that Bashir Ishak-Bashir, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was its gubernatorial candidate.

Ishak-Bashir had on Monday told NAN that he had commenced talks with the APC to support it in the forthcoming elections.

“I am in high level discussion with the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the national level on how we can support the party win the forthcoming general elections.

“I will soon get across to you on our final position on the matter,” Ishak-Bashir said.

The LP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Raji, however, dismissed Ishak-Bashir’s claims, saying he was never the LP governorship candidate.

Raji said at a news conference on Monday in Kano that Ishak-Bashir’s name has never been on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as LP’s gubernatorial flag bearer in Kano state.

“He came to the party alone and left alone,” Raji said, adding that the structure of the party remained intact with all its Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly candidates contesting in the forthcoming general elections.

He, however, acknowledged that there were issues in the party which had “caused disunity within the rank and file of members of the party.”

Raji added that “some wrong elements” had tried to divert the attention of the party and threatened to defect.

“We are strongly advising such category of people to know that we the ‘Obedients’ are fully in support of Obi/Dati movement hundred percent in Kano state,” he added.

Meanwhile, a source in the party said that Raji’s name has been forwarded to INEC as the LP gubernatorial candidate in Kano state.

According to him, “When you see undertakers you will know those who came to kill this party. But the party will not die, they will die first. I didn’t know they are wicked to this party, no wonder they left this party and joined ACN before.”

Wike stated that Ayu’s statement amounted to anti-party for saying that PDP should not be in power anymore.

“He (Ayu) said they will not allow PDP to be in power. Is that a good chairman? Is that not anti-party? Is the chairman not doing anti-party? Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

“For us in Rivers State, our own party is a good party. Our own is a party that has done Rivers State well,” he said.

Emefiele fighting back for failing to secure APC presidential ticket – Ganduje alleges

Kano State Governor, Abdullah Ganduje of Kano State has alleged that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emeifiele is deliberately causing confusion with the Naira swap policy.

Ganduje made claims that the apex bank governor is fighting back for failing to get a presidential ticket under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said this during an electioneering campaign rally held at Tsanyawa on Sunday, where he presented the party’s gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates, alongside other candidates, to the voters.

Ganduje insisted that the Kano State government and the APC in the State were totally against the action of the CBN Governor.

“He has not been in a good mood for long because he failed to secure a Presidential ticket on the platform of our great party, the APC.”

“Currency redesign is done across the globe, but not in the way we are witnessing in our country. The timing is wrong, the deadline given is very wrong and deliberate,” he said.

He further stated that “we will summon bank managers very soon to interrogate the shortage of new Naira notes in banks.

“They should come over and explain to us why our people are still suffering over this issue of Naira swap. I will go to them individually to supervise what is happening and why.”

At the palaces of the District Heads of Kunchi and Tsanyawa local government areas, he urged community leaders to create awareness within their jurisdiction to let people know that, “the hardship people facing was single-handedly caused by the CBN Governor, to purposely cause confusion in our democratic process.”
