Nnamdi Kanu: Ohanaeze meets, constitutes legal team

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has bared its mind on the interception and re-arraignment of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

National Executive Committee (NEC) of the apex Igbo body rose from its meeting in Enugu, Saturday, pledging to monitor every aspect of the trial process.

A communique released by its spokesman, Alex Ogbonnia said the group has constituted a committee of eminent Igbo lawyers and leaders to track the proceedings throughout the trial.

The communique read: “That Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has observed with keen interest the recent re-arraignment and consequent trial of our son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“That in as much as Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not averse to the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we however submit that he should be tried within the ambit of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in line with global best practices.

“That as part of our avowed determination to ensure the fair trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we have constituted a legal team led by the National Legal Adviser of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and eminent Igbo leaders to monitor the legal proceedings, throughout the trial.

“That we strongly support the stand taken by the Southern Governors Forum on anti-open grazing, restructuring, rotation of the President of Nigeria to the South in 2023, and the proposed 5% share of the Petroleum Industries Bill (PIB) for the host communities.

“That we identify with the Igbo youths in their grievances with respect to Igbo marginalization, menace of the Fulani herdsmen, etc; however we do not support the use of any form of violence to redress the relative deprivation and prevailing inequality and injustice across the country. We therefore urge the youths to be law abiding and sheath their sword as the South East leaders and stakeholders address these our collective grievances through meaningful dialogue and negotiations.

“That we therefore urge Ndigbo particularly the youths to take the ongoing voters’ registration exercise seriously, as this is the only means that guarantees effective participation in Nigerian politics and a sine qua non to achieving our goals and aspirations in the Nigeria project.”

UK parliament to debate Kenya’s role in Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, repatriation today

The United Kingdom Parliament is set to commence a debate on the repatriation of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, from Kenya to Nigeria today (Wednesday).

The British government had clarified that Nnamdi Kanu, who was travelling with a British passport, was not arrested within its shores.

IPOB had accused the Buhari regime of abducting its leader in an East African country, a claim confirmed by Kanu’s attorney, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who accused Kenya’s special police force of arresting and torturing him before he was handed over to the Nigerian government.

Meanwhile, Kenya High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wilfred Machage, had refuted claims that Kanu was arrested in the country.

But the UK Parliament, in a parliamentary schedule posted on its website said it will set aside a debate on Wednesday, July 7, to discuss the British government’s assessment of Kenya’s role in Mr. Kanu’s arrest.

According to the document, Lord Alton of Liverpool will be raising the issue at the House of Lords and will query the government on the separatist leader’s transfer to Nigeria.

“Lord Alton of Liverpool to ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of (1) the alleged role of the government of Kenya in the detention and alleged mistreatment of Nigerian activist Nnamdi Kanu, (2) the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Mr. Kanu to Nigeria against his will, and (3) of any assistance being provided to him by the High Commission in Abuja. HL1665,” the document read.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo blasts Northern group for declaring IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu wanted

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has slammed the Northern groups for placing a bounty on Nnamdi Kanu’s whereabouts.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) had reported that 17 Northern groups under the aegis of Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) on Thursday declared Kanu wanted over the killings and destruction of properties owned by Northerners in the Southeast.

The President of the group, Dr Auwal Abdullahi, while addressing a press conference, also placed a N100m bounty on Kanu.

Reacting, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Friday, faulted the move and accused the warring factions in the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders and Islamic terror organizations of being behind the killings and destruction of properties in the southeast region.

The group called on the Northern groups to place their N100 million bounty on Miyetti Allah and the slain Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau’s successor whom it alleged had foisted heavy havoc on the citizens.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, however, dismissed the claim that northerners are being killed in the southeast, maintaining that there had not been any killing of northerners recorded anywhere in the region as it further accused the northern groups of embarking on a mission to thwart the ambition of the southeast zone in producing President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor come 2023.

The Igbo organization said, “we would not want to join issues with faceless groups that are not known in the north but in as much as that they are making some attempts to cause crisis in the country by ensuring that the groups not only placing a bounty on Nnamdi Kanu over alleged killings, they are out to escalate the tension in the country.

“For the purpose of record and from the last time, there had not been any killing, except the accidental killing of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri. There had not been killing recorded anywhere in the southeast about northern people except some nefarious activities of unknown gunmen and killer Fulani herdsmen who had been attacking police stations and government facilities and killing both Igbos and indigenes from other parts of the country.

Place N100m bounty on bandits, Boko Haram, not Nnamdi Kanu – Omokri to Northern groups
“We want to tell the groups being sponsored by some northern presidential aspirants to place the bounty on the new leader of Boko Haram terrorist group, that had just emerged after the death of Shekau. Nnamdi Kanu has an address in London or in Germany where his headquarters of IPOB is. There is no need of searching for Kanu. He is not in Nigeria, he has an address in London as a British citizen. They should just use the N100 million bounty given to them by northern politicians, who are trying to destabilize the southeast to have easy root for the 2023 presidential ticket of major political parties in Nigeria, especially of the PDP.

“They should place the bounty on Shekau’s successor who has no address, who is living in the forest, the terrorist group that took arms against the government for the last six years. They should not cry more than the bereaved, we will take care of the southeast and ensure normalcy returns. As far as we are concerned, that bounty is inconsequential and political. It is not necessary, only a means to continue to heat up tension in the polity”.

FG should call Igboho, Kanu to address secession agitation – Moghalu

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu has called on the Federal government to meet and dialogue with Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu agitating for Oduduwa and Biafra Republics.

The former presidential candidate made the call on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.

Moghalu during the show said both agitators feel marginalized and are only seeking justice.

“I think that the government should be able to invite, whether it is IPOB or Sunday Igboho, all the secessionists; invite them to the table,” he said.

Moghalu also decried proscribing the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group spearheading the creation of an independent Biafra nation.

He, however, noted that the IPOB is agitating in a wrong way but cautioned that the group should not be called a terrorist group.

“They are essentially political agitators. You can call them terrorists. That is your own prerogative but we know what terrorism means in reality. Boko Haram are terrorists. We know that” he added.

“When people begin political agitations and we very easily throw terrorism at them just because they are mouthing off and speaking in a language that nobody likes or insulting their fellow citizens. That is their way of handling this type of thing.

“Can we address the agitations? Don’t be afraid to address the core reasons behind the agitation because they are crying out for justice. They feel marginalized. What is wrong with addressing those issues?”

Agitation for secession has become widespread in the country with Sunday Igboho leading the call for the South West and Nnamdi Kanu for the South East.

If you have problem with ESN, you are a terrorist – Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has slammed those against his security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Kanu while describing what his security outfit stands for said, ESN was not established to fight against any particular tribe or religion but against every terrorist.

The IPOB leader, in a tweet on his official Twitter page on Tuesday, said the ESN only attacks terrorists who kill regardless of tribe or religion.

Kanu said anyone who is against or has a problem with the goal of the ESN is either a terrorist or slave.

In his tweet, he wrote: “Eastern Security Network is not after PEOPLE or any tribe/religion.

“ESN is after TERRORISTS because terrorists kill people, regardless of tribe/religion.

“If you’ve a problem with that, you’re either a terrorist or a slave.”

Kanu speaks as Odemwingie accuses his wife of wooing him

Ex Super Eagles Captain, Nwankwo Kanu has reacted to a call out by his former Super Eagles teammate, Osazie Odemwingie, in which he accused his wife, Amara Kanu, of wooing him via social media.

Odemwingie took to Instagram yesterday to make it clear that he’s not interested in whatever Amara Kanu is pestering him for.

He shared: “How can a wife of a legend like @kingkanu4 be chasing me for a chat relentlessly (check ur DM check your DM) na by force?”

He added: “@amarakanu. Your husband has my number and it’s not in our culture to msg another man without asking your husband.”

In another post, he said: “@amarakanu If your hello can’t be public it’s probably not just a hello. Mine is #nigeria #naija LUKE 10:19.”

Reacting to the accusation, Amara Kanu in Osaze’s comment section wrote that her husband is aware of whatever he thinks she’s up to.

“@odemwingie_81 oh no no no. Kindly take this post down. @kingkanu4 is fully aware of this. We want to talk to you as a family,” she wrote.

Also reacting to the call out, Kanu queried, saying, “Who is wooing who?”

He added: “Osaze, I am still going to choose family over everything else. My reaching out to you over a situation you passed through, or you reaching me can never be taken out of context as a Family. You got this one completely wrong my dear brother. ONE LOVE.”

  • We will form our own security outfit in North – IPOB

We will form our own security outfit in North – IPOB

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has threatened to form a security outfit in the Northern part of the country.

Kanu said IPOB will form its security outfits in Northern states predominated by Fulanis.

In a statement he signed, the IPOB leader again reiterated that the Miyetti Allah security outfit would be expelled from the Southeast.

Kanu also warned the Federal Government against supporting Miyetti Allah to form security outfit in the Southeast.

He said: “Given the overwhelming evidence that the Fulanized Federal Government has given its tacit blessing to Miyetti Allah to proceed with this sinister move, the IPOB has resolved to take the following immediate steps:

“The IPOB will, henceforth, regard as a hostile and occupying force any Fulani poses, whether deceptively called a security outfit or vigilante found anywhere in Biafraland. Accordingly, the IPOB will take appropriate measures to expel such force, measure for measure.

“If the Fulani Federal Government attempts to assist or otherwise enable Miyetti Allah to stay put in Biafraland, the IPOB will escalate its response to include but not limited to equally forming counter-security outfits in all states of the far North where the Fulani are predominant.”

Finally, Ohanaeze, IPOB sheathe swords, agree to work together

Pan Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the separatist Igbo group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have mended fence with a promise to work together for the common good of the Igbo people.

Both groups met yesterday at the home of the first Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazuluike Amechi, in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Both groups have been at logger head recently, with the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, calling on his members to attack the leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Nnia Nwodo, anywhere he was seen.

But Amechi, who met with the group, described the rivalry as unnecessary as they were both working for the good of the Igbo people.

“I summoned the two bodies to express my displeasure with what I have been reading in the newspapers about Kanu giving orders for the stoning of Chief Nwodo.

“I’m happy that even before this peace meeting, Kanu has retracted the statement. We, therefore, appeal to Nwodo to accept the retraction and get it off his mind as IPOB has agreed to work with them.

“The two bodies must realise that it is the same battle they are fighting, which is marginalisation, killings and denial of federal government to develop South-east and Igbo land in general,” he stated.

IPOB, represented by Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Kanu, said he was at the meeting with the blessings and instructions of his client, just as he thanked Amaechi, who he said was not a stranger to what he was doing having been once declared a terrorist.

Also, speaking on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Anambra State President of the body, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, said the body endorsed all that were contained in the communique.

He said: “Those who thought our fences are fallen will know that the fences are much stronger than they thought.”

  • Amotekun: Tender public apology to Kanu – IPOB tells Ohanaeze, S’East govs

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has demanded an unreserved apology from the South-East governors and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo over their alleged roles in its prosecution and proscription.

The group said the governors and the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation must tender the apology to its leader, Nnamdi Kanu and the entire IPOB family.

In a statement on Saturday by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said recent events indicated the Igbo leaders’ sudden reverse decision to support the moves they (IPOB) had fought for that led to its proscription.

The pro-Biafran group argued that the launch of Operation Amotekun security outfit by the South-West governors, was akin to idea it’s leader initiated in the South- East which the Igbo leaders condemned.

The group insisted that it should be de-proscribed in view of the unfolding events in the country.

The statement partly read, “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra ably led by our great and indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commend South West governors, elders, stakeholders and politicians for their doggedness and courage to protect their people and their region from evil hands.

“This is not the first time in recent weeks that our leader’s(Kanu’s) position and approach has been vindicated by events and utterances from other ethnic groups within Nigeria.

” The inescapable truth remains that Bishop Kukah’s commendable utterances about the Jihadi intent of the present regime in Nigeria and formation of a Yoruba vigilante by OPC are all lines of reasoning and event consistently canvassed and championed by IPOB in the past. The fact remains that Nigeria as presently constituted is the greatest threat to life and peace.

“The Yoruba decision and effort to launch Operation Amotekun security outfit just like our leader launched Biafra Security Service in 2017 is most commendable.

“What we find horribly appalling however is that those who were at the forefront of misrepresenting and condemning our leader for having the vision and foresightedness to challenge terrorism in Nigeria are today praise singing the introduction of Amotekun.

“Even the treacherous Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South East Governors’ Forum that actively connived with their masters to launch a deadly military invasion of Biafraland on the back of the launch of BSS are today openly praising Yoruba leaders for backing OPC’s Amotekun project when they themselves heartlessly sold out IPOB for a pot of porridge.

“IPOB wholeheartedly welcome Amotekun and say good morning to those who out of ignorance, poor sense of vision, lack of reasoning and self consuming jealousy fought against the formation BSS. They should cover their faces in shame if they have any face left after this.

“We believe the time has come for all those who ignorantly questioned the modus operadi of IPOB and the vision of Biafra liberation as boldly preached by our leader to tender an unreserved public apology.”
