‘Igbos who choose to live in North, chose to be sacrificial lambs,’ Says Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu yesterday said Igbos vacating the North was not a condition for the actualisation of Biafra.

Kanu spoke in an interview with journalists in Enugu, where he received awards from a number of pan-Igbo groups, including the Igbo Women Assembly, the Eastern Consultative Assembly and the Igbo Students Union.

While reacting to the quit notice issued to Igbos in the North, Kanu said secession does not imply that Igbo must leave any part of Nigeria.

He said, “You are aware that Scotland is seeking to leave the United Kingdom? Are you remotely implying that every person from Scotland, who lives in England, should now return to Scotland?

“Britain just left the EU. Are you now implying that every British citizen in the EU should come back to Britain in order to finalise that process of extraction of Britain from the EU?”

He described the Arewa Youth who have the ultimatum as ‘inconsequential’.

Kanu, nonetheless, warned that Igbo, who resided in the North, were doing so at their own peril.

He stated, “It is up to them. They have been in the North, and they (northerners) have been killing us (Igbo) since 1945.

“If you choose to live in the North, you choose to be a sacrificial lamb because one day, they will kill you. It is a choice they have made and they will have to live with it.”

He further insisted that the governorship poll in Anambra State, scheduled to hold on November 18, 2017, would not hold.

He added, “No, I’m not (bothered) because the people are with us. We control the people 100 per cent and come Anambra, on the 18th of November, 2017, the whole world will be amazed.”

Kanu said IPOB did not intend to stop anybody who decided to vote.

“We are entirely peaceful. We are not stopping anyone from voting. If you want to vote, you can go and vote. We are democrats,” he said.

The IPOB leader added, “We are calling for a referendum so that the people can actually decide, once and for all, what they want, for themselves; not anybody deciding for them.

“I have not argued Biafra from the standpoint of absolutism. I am not saying you must vote for Biafra. I am asking the powers that be in Nigeria to allow the people to determine for themselves.”

Obasanjo is planning to assassinate Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is plotting to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through a military coup.

The group in a statement on Thursday said that the call by Obasanjo to stop Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members was a systematic way of telling the whole world that he had plans on the way to over throw this present government and assassinate Nnamdi Kanu and others who are calling for the restoration of Biafra.

The group further said that if anything happens to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others or military takeover in Nigeria the whole world should hold Obasanjo responsible.

The IPOB statement read thus The members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide and it’s leadership worldwide wish to put the whole world on notice of the call by the two times former president of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra through the Military coup.

We are drawing the attention of the well-meaning civilised society across the globe that Obasanjo has decided to put Nigeria into coax by calling Nigeria Army to plot a coup in Nigeria to justify his call to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other members of IPOB who are bent in using peaceful means to restore Biafra.

Since the inception of IPOB and emergence of Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu we have maintained the nonviolent posture towards the restoration of Biafra, IPOB has never killed any fly rather the Federal Government of Nigeria and her security operatives

Since the inception of IPOB and emergence of Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu we have maintained the nonviolent posture towards the restoration of Biafra, IPOB has never killed any fly rather the Federal Government of Nigeria and her security operatives has been killing the innocent members of IPOB and Biafrans without provocation.

IPOB and Biafrans are not calling for war or any confrontation with Nigeria Government, individual or group, what we are requesting is referendum to ascertain whether the people of Biafra would choose to remain in Nigeria or not. Again and to ascertain if the people of Biafra will choose to remain with the humiliation, killing, sufferings in Nigeria.

All the civilized world knew the meaning of self-determination and referendum that it cannot become a call for war rather it is legal means in the United Nations charter which suppose to be honoured by any member country including Nigeria Government and her politicians like Obasanjo and others.

This call by Olusegun Obasanjo to stop Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members worldwide is a systematic way of telling the whole world that he had plans on the way to over throw this present Government and the only possible means he can justify the assassination of Nnamdi Kanu and others who are calling for the restoration of Biafra, but if anything happen to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others or military takeover in Nigeria the whole world will hold Olusegun Obasanjo and cohorts responsible.

With this we are calling on United Nations UN, African Union AU, European Union EU, ECOWAS, USA Government, Russia Government, Israeli Government, French Government, Canada, Australia, Chinese Government, British Government, Japan, Amnesty International, Human Right Watch, other relevant human rights organizations across the globe and the people of good conscience in the whole universe to be aware of the statements credited to former President of Nigerian Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.”

  • We don’t see Kanu as a leader in South East – Presidency

We don’t see Kanu as a leader in South East – Presidency

The Presidency has said the government does not see Nnamdi Kanu, of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) as a leader of thought in the south-east region.

Special Adviser to the President on Political matters, Babafemi Ojodu said this while explaining the reason Kanu was left out of the meeting Acting President Yemi Osinbajo held with leaders of the south-east.

IPOB had described the meeting as a waste because its leader was not invited.

But Ojodu said yesterday, “Well, the thing is that we were looking for leaders of the people, leaders of thought and we do not see Kanu as a leader of thought in the east. May be opportunity will come at one time or the other for him to be engaged.

“But so far, what we have done is to look at people who have influence in the communities, whether it is religious, whether it is traditional, whether it is political, social or governance. These are the people we brought in for discussion.”

He added that calls for secession and a referendum were not discussed in the meeting.

“Nobody has tabled that in all the discussions we have had. Nobody, I can tell you. Ohanaeze came with a prepared document. They never talked about referendum. They never. They never even talked about secession,” he said.

“They made complaints about police harassment at road blocks. They made complaints about losing some key positions, not being appointed into security positions and all those kinds of things.

“And these are things that can easily be addressed. Nobody canvassed secession at those meetings, nobody canvassed referendum.”

The presidential aide further noted that the south-east leaders were in agreement with the federal government that Nigeria should remain as one.

“So, for us, and that was the conclusion that everybody came to in the consultations we have had that we should all agree that we can live together peacefully.

“We should address injustice where we find it and the government should be equitable in the distribution of resources across the country snd then, find solution to youth unemployment and the frustration that is confronting most of the young people across this country.”

He was driven out of the detention facility by former transportation minister Osita Chidoka after perfecting his bail conditions.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja, had earlier this week after citing concerns about Kanu’s health, granted him bail though on stringent conditions.

TheNewsGuru.com had earlier reported that a Federal High Court judge, Justice Nyako had signed the bail papers for Kanu’s release.

  • Biafra: Fayose, Ekweremadu to steer fund raising committee for Kanu

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekwemeradu, are set to raise support fund for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu to perfect his bail conditions and also cater for his immediate family.

The governor had on Tuesday stormed an Abuja Federal High Court where he showed solidarity with Kanu.

Speaking on the development on Wednesday, the governor said “I’m trying to work with other well meaning Nigerians to raise funds for Kanu so that he can fund his lawyers and meet his immediate family needs.

We are going to ensure that the injustice meted out to him does not destroy him. He has parents, wife and children to take care of. I appeal to Nigerians to support this just cause.”

Fayose, who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, called on lawyers to join the struggle for liberation.

As many lawyers that are willing to fight the oppression should join the struggle for liberation from the oppression.

Those willing can send their correspondence to Governors Office or reach me on my telephone line 070300000393 or myemail:mystory2006@yahoo.com.”

Fayose confirmed that Ekwemeradu will be part of the coordinators that will steer the fund raising committee.

The account will be raised in Kanu’s name and will belong to him.

We are just driving the cause. As soon as we receive his account details we will make it available. The money will be used for him and others in incarceration with him.

We believe in coexistence of Nigeria. People have the right to agitate for independence. Even in traditional institution people agitate for autonomy.

When people agitate and they cannot get it, they drop the idea. It is not for you to silence them. That is oppression. Agitation is legitimate”, he said.

  • [Just in] Court resumes trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has resumed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Armed security personnel which comprises of mobile police officers and operatives of the Department of State Security service mounted tight security at the court premises on Tuesday.

Press men were initially barred from entering the court building by security personnel until the intervention of Kanu’s lawyer.

Kanu, and three others, David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe, were accused of treasonable felony and are being tried by the Federal government.

It would be recalled that Kanu’s trial was suspended on December 13 after he and other defendants angrily challenged the court’s decision to allow the use of “protected” witnesses.

The judge, Binta Nyako, had ruled in December that witnesses would be allowed some degree of protection.

“The counsels and the defendants will see the witnesses. The witnesses will have special entrances to and outside the court,” the judge said.

Justice Nyako also said the court would allow the witnesses to be shielded with screen-guards.

The ruling was enforced today, with screen-guards shielding the judge, defendant and witnesses from the rest of the court.
