The FCCPC Assistant Director was found dead on the floor after the office brawl last week Wednesday and the deceased has been deposited in the morgue of Katsina General Hospital.

TNG gathered that there have been a record of past cross allegations of conflict and abuse/aggression by the deceased and Ms. Abdulsalam. The current claims include an assertion of insufficient remedial action by the management of FCCPC, it was learnt.

According to a statement by Tam Tamunokonbia, Director of Legal Services/Secretary to the Board of FCCPC, the Katsina State Police Command is currently investigating the matter.

The deceased directed the cashier to give N4,000 to Abdusalam, arguing that what she did was not up to the amount she demanded.

Isah said, according to the police investigation, an argument ensued between the suspect and the deceased in his office in the presence of the cashier who later left the two in a fierce argument.

He added that the victim allegedly manhandled the deceased, tore his clothes and took his nude picture. She reportedly rushed to the GRA police station, where she reported him for alleged sexual harassment.

“Our investigations also revealed that the suspect, Ms Muhibat, had fought four previous directors who were there before the deceased,” Isah said, adding that investigation into the matter was ongoing.

After her report at the police station, some police officers were said to have followed her to the directors office only to meet him lifeless on the floor, with bruises on his body.

Unknown persons cart away N31m cash from Katsina Govt House

The Katsina State Government has confirmed that about N31 million has been stolen by unknown persons at the account section of the State Government House.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s Director-General of New Media, Alhaji Al-Amin Isah confirmed the incident in an interview with journalists on Thursday.

Although Isah did not disclose the amount stolen, he said that some of the suspects were already in police custody undergoing investigation.

“Yes, it’s true that some money was alleged to have been stolen as you have asked. We have already reported the matter to the police for investigation. I can not tell you the exact figure now, but those in the best position will give you more updates, please,” he added.

But sources familiar with what happened told Channels Television that the money stolen was in the sum of N31 million.

This is the second time such an incident is happening at the Katsina Government House.

In January 2020, a similar incident occurred when unknown persons allegedly broke into the office of the former Secretary to the Government of Katsina State (SGS), Mustapha Inuwa, and made away with N16 million.

The office which is located at the State Secretariat was said to have been broken into in the night and some suspects were arrested a day after in connection with the incident.

Those arrested included a security guard, and two government officials working at the SSG’s office.

Earlier in July 2022, the police in Katsina State said it was investigating the alleged stealing of N61 million from a cashier at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Darma.

He was allegedly attacked by gunmen while travelling with three bags filled with N61 million cash and shot in the arm before the money was stolen

The gunmen were said to have followed Darma from the bank but he didn’t stop when they tried to stop his car around the Katsina Steel Rolling Company roundabout. Instead, he returned to the metropolitan city and the gunmen continued chasing his car.

He eventually lost control of the car and hit an object which forced him to stop.

In reaction, the police said the cashier should not have in the first place withdrawn such a huge amount of money without a police escort.

Insecurity: Gov. Masari calls for self defense, urges Nigerians to emulate America and China

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has called on Nigerians to emulate Americans and Chinese in taking up arms to defend themselves from bandits and terrorists.

He made the call while speaking at the 2022 special prayer session in commemoration of ‘Yaumush Shukur’ (thanksgiving) day for Katsina on Monday, August 1.

“The security challenges we are facing in terms of killings and kidnappings are not only limited to Katsina or Nigeria, but they happen everywhere, even in America and China. But their citizens don’t fold their arms and wait for the government.

Don’t lock yourselves inside and say it is the responsibility of the government or police to defend you: how many people will the police defend? But if you defend yourself, it will reduce the work of policemen and soldiers.” he said

Gov. Masari appeals to APC flag bearers to embrace primary elections losers

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has appealed to flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace those who lost primary elections as a preparatory to the 2023 general elections.

The governor made the appeal when he hosted a stakeholder meeting with the Northwest APC Consultative Committee on Wednesday in Katsina.

He emphasised that unity among party members had always been the gateway to victory at elections.

The governor appreciated the leadership of the party in the state for constituting reconciliation committees to heal the wounds of losses at its primary elections.

Masari urged chairmen of the 34 local government areas in the state to work towards the victory of the party at the 2023 general elections.

APC’s National Vice-Chairman Northwest, Alhaji Salihu Muhammed, who was in attendance, said the meeting aimed at reconciliation as a way to victory in the 2023 general elections.

He said the consultative committee already presented a preliminary report from five states earlier visited to Masari at an earlier meeting held in Abuja.

APC Chairman in Katsina State, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, commended Masari for constituting a reconciliation committee in the state.

Aliyu said the party in the state also constituted 15 committees to consult with aggrieved members and bring about reconciliation.

He was represented at the meeting by his deputy, Alhaji Bala Musawa.

  • I don’t have any assets for my children to inherit – Buhari

I don’t have any assets for my children to inherit – Buhari

…their net worth is in their heads

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he is not leaving any assets for his children to inherit.

Going memory lane, Buhari said that after his release from jail in December 1988, he told his children that their net worth is what is in the head, not what one has acquired in life.

The President, who spoke in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday, implored parents to inculcate the right values in children, including deep fear of God, respect for constituted authorities and living a purposeful life through continuous education.

“I was locked up for more than three years, after leading the country. At that point, I realised and I told my children that your net worth is what is in your head, not what you have acquired in life.

“My focus has always been on training the children to be relevant wherever they find themselves. I told my children, particularly the girls, that they can only get married after getting a first degree.

“They already know that I am not leaving anything for anyone to inherit. My greatest legacy to the children is to ensure they are properly educated,” he said.

The President noted that the younger children should be guided and taught history, as they would find it hard to be patriotic, responsible and respectful, without a thorough understanding of their backgrounds.

His words: “Whoever does not have a good sense of history will easily make mistakes.

“We should ensure the children get proper education. The knowledge they acquire should not be towards getting government jobs. We don’t have jobs in government anymore. With technology, governments are becoming more smaller, nimble and efficient.

“Emphasis should now be on skills acquisition and competence in creation and deployment of technology. During the COVID-19, we asked all level 12 downward to stay at home, and surprisingly the systems worked effectively”.

Buhari therefore charged the youth to seek education, not for government jobs which are unavailable but to arm themselves with skill and ability to fight poverty and to meet the needs of the 21st Century.

The President, who was at the Palace of the Emir of Daura for the Sallah homage, said more time should be given to the coaching of the future leaders, with basic knowledge of moral values, as the fast changing world, driven by new technology, would be more competitive and demanding.

Buhari also told the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, that he will be more regular in visits, preparatory to the handing over in May 2023, adding that the prolonged absence was due to the demands of his office.

“This is the longest I have been away from home. In fact, the Emir took to the court of public opinion at the prayer ground, when he openly told everyone that I had not visited Daura for close to a year,” he added.

The President said all Nigerians must make sacrifices to move the country forward, especially the public servants, calling for more selflessness and inclusion.

“At the end, it is only God that can reward your efforts, not man,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Bello Masari listed the achievements of the President to include social security, which was created to cater for the poor, and ensure that they receive some money at the end of every month.

The Emir of Daura thanked the President for the infrastructural and institutional developments in the state, saying generations will remember and remain grateful to President Buhari.

  • I’ll retire to Daura; I have a better house in Kaduna, but it’s too close to Abuja – Buhari

I’ll retire to Daura; I have a better house in Kaduna, but it’s too close to Abuja – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he would retire to Daura, his country home in Katsina State, following the end of his tenure as Nigeria’s president in 2023.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports President Buhari made this known when some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), legislators and political leaders paid him Sallah homage in Daura on Monday.

Buhari, who said he has a better house in Kaduna State, disclosed that it was too close to Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT).

“In ten to eleven months’ time, I will come here. I have a better house in Kaduna, but it is too close to Abuja,’’ he said.

The President told the governors and political leaders that he had not been to his house in Daura for close to a year due to the demands of office.

“The observation that I abandoned my base was made by the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Umar Faruk, at the eid prayer ground.

“He held the microphone and told everyone that the last time I was in Daura was during the Eid-el-Kabir of 2021,” he added.

The President explained that the schedule of work was much, saying he recently had to sympathise with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, who had to be away most of the time from his family.

The President said relative to the resources available, and compared to the last administration, the government had done well in many areas, particularly in infrastructure.

“I wish the person who is coming after me the very best,” he said.

On the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the president called on the striking lecturers to reconsider their position and end the prolonged strike.

Buhari said the strike had already taken a toll on the psychology of parents, students and other stakeholders, throwing up many moral issues that already beg for attention.

He noted that the future of the country rests on the quality of educational institutions and education while assuring that the government understands their position, and negotiations should continue, with students in lecture halls.

“We hope that ASUU will sympathise with the people on the prolonged strike. Truly, enough is enough for keeping students at home. Don’t hurt the next generation for goodness sake,” he said.

The President called on all well meaning Nigerians, particularly those close to the leaders and members of the association, to intervene in persuading the lecturers to reconsider their position, and the ripple effect on an entire generation and the nation.

President Buhari said students from Nigerian universities will be faced with the challenge of competing with others in a highly connected and technology-driven work space, and keeping them at home only deprives them of time, skill and opportunities to be relevant on the global stage.

“Colonial type education was geared towards producing workers in government. Those jobs are no longer there. Our young people should get education to prepare them for self-employment. Now education is for the sake of education.

“Through technology we are much more efficient. We should encourage our children to get education, not only to look for government jobs,” he added.

President Buhari said resources should be channeled more into building infrastructure and operations of the health and educational sector, not to expand the bureaucracy to create job opportunities.

“By this time next year, I would have made the most out of the two terms, and the remaining months I will do my best,” the President noted.

President Buhari urged those in political positions and places of privilege to be mindful in helping the many Nigerians that were looking for opportunities.

“If you are greedy, you won’t look around to see what is happening with those who are less endowed,’’ he said.

President Buhari urged the APC stalwarts to keep working for the good of the people and the country, noting that “ We are a lucky people, and we need to reflect more on where we are coming from.”

The President said relative to the resources available, and compared to the last administration, the government had done well in many areas, particularly in infrastructure.

“I wish the person who is coming after me the very best,” he said.

On security, the President said the North West had posed more challenges, and some success had been recorded in other regions, North East and South South.

President Buhari advised some indigenes in the South South to stop hurting national assets, which also affect their livelihood.

“I am eager to go. I can tell you it has been tough. I am grateful to God that people appreciate the personal sacrifices we have been making,” he added.

In his remarks at the meeting, the chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, thanked the President for his leadership roles in improving the economy of the nation and the many successes recorded at the APC, which include two conventions to produce the party leadership and  the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“We will work hard to ensure the success of our party. We have reasons to work very hard,” he added.

Bagudu, who is the Governor of Kebbi State, said the favorable seasons supported the vision of ensuring food production and making agriculture a priority, with clear results in rice pyramids in various states.

“In spite of the attacks by the renegades, our country remains self-sufficient in food production. We have seen investments that were not there before you came into power.

“Not less than 20 states now have agriculture process zones. We have rice pyramid in Ekiti, Gombe and Niger, while maize pyramids were revived in Katsina and Kano states,” he said.

He said more than 54 rice meals were commissioned in various states, and 57 fertiliser plants were revived, or built afresh.

“All these were achieved because of your commitment and patriotism,” the governor told the President.

Bagudu also appreciated the President for providing ease of access to governors and political leaders, noting that the opening of the National Economic Council for more fluid exchange of ideas greatly helped in improving the economy.

Aminu Bello Masari, Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Ekiti State, Dr Fayemi Kayode, Plateau State, Simon Lalong and Kebbi State, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

BREAKING: Gunmen attack Buhari’s convoy in Katsina ahead of visit

Suspected gunmen on Tuesday attacked and opened fire on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State ahead of the president’s visit to the State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Buhari had been scheduled to visit Daura for the Sallah break and an advance team of security guards, protocol and media officers had already arrived in the State.

The attackers opened fire on the convoy while on its way to Daura from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.

Meanwhile, Buhari, in a statement by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, has described the development as not welcomed.

Garba Shehu confirmed the attack in the statement that reads: “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.

  • INEC express concern over low PVC registration in Katsina State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Katsina State has expressed concern over the poor turnout of residents registering for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in the newly established 1,750 polling units.

Alhaji Jibril Zarewa, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Katsina.

He said that one year after the commencement of PVC registration, there was a poor turnout of people for registration in the newly established polling units.

According to Zarewa, “In May 2022 when we did analysis, we realised out of the 1,750 newly established polling units, about 1,200 units did not have more than 50 people who registered in each of them.

“This registration involved transfers. Some of the polling units have zero registration, some have only one, some five while some have not more than 50 people who registered.

“Although this can be attributed to the suspension of telecommunication networks in 17 of the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) for about five months due to the security problem.

“Since the resumption of the exercise in March, out of the 1,750 polling units created, about 1,200 don’t have up to 50 people that registered in each of them.

“We are appealing to the people of those areas where the new polling units were created to go and register, as INEC is always ready for them.

“The reasons for the creation of additional polling units is to serve the areas and decongest the congested polling units through the transfer of their polling units, he said.

He disclosed that initially there were 4,902 polling units in the state but with the creation of the additional ones, there are 6,652 polling units at present.

Zarewa explained that the collection of the PVCs is appreciable, saying towards the 2019 election, INEC had to stop the issuance of the PVCs.

“As at that time, we had about three per cent of our cards collected, which means out of the 3.230 million PVCs, we had, just about 50,000 not collected.

“As of Jan. 12, 2022, we have taken 53,000 from the headquarters, and just a few days ago, we have taken an additional 20,000 for people who made corrections.”
