    Masari bans annual traditional activities conducted during Ramadan

    The Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari has banned the traditional Tashe activities conducted during the month of Ramadan.

    In a statement by the Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Home Affairs, Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirikathe, the ban which is coming barely 15 days after the commencement of the Muslim fasting follows some security reports that warrant it.

    The state government also directed security operators in the state to arrest anybody found violating the directives.

    The commissioner drew the attention of the General Public mostly parents on the need to control and guard their children not to undertake the Tashe activities across the State.

    “Katsina State Government is hereby announcing the total ban on the traditional Tashe activities that are usually being conducted in the month of Ramadan.

    “The State Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari gave the directives for the ban following some security reports.

    “It is, therefore, hoped that people will comply and abide by these directives, please.” The statement added.

    Four suspected leaders of bandits have surrendered themselves to the police along with several arms and ammunition, as well as rustled cows in Katsina state.

    Parading the repentant bandits at the police headquarters in the state, Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba identified the four to include Sale and Mani Turwa, Ado Sarki and Sani Mai-daji.

    Buba, who was represented by command’s spokesperson, Gambo Isah, said the bandits surrendered 23 AK-47 rifles, two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), one AK-49, rifle, 109 GPMG ammunition, and 94 7.62mm live ammunition of AK-47 rifle.

    He also said that the bandits surrendered 45 rustled cows voluntarily.

    The commissioner said, “four leaders of bandits, namely: Sale Turwa, Manu Turwa, Ado Sarki, Sani Mai-daji; decided unconditionally, on their own to come out from their hideouts in the forest, denounced banditry and surrendered the following arms and ammunition:

    “Two General Purpose Machine Guns, one AK-49 assault rifle, 23 AK-47 assault rifles, 109 GPMG ammunition, 94 7.62mm live ammunition of AK 47 rifle, 45 rustled cows.”

    He warned other “recalcitrant bandits, who refuse to surrender, that nobody has monopoly of violence and that government is mightier than any person or group of persons.

    “The Nigeria Police Force and indeed other sister security agencies will leave no stone unturned in isolating and dealing decisively with any individual or group of unrepentant bandits that refuse to surrender and keep hibernating in the forest.

    “The Command wishes to assure the good people of the state that banditry and other crimes will soon be a history as the security forces are on top of the situation.

    “Members of the public are hereby enjoined to partner with the security agencies by providing useful information that will lead to the arrest of bandits and their collaborators.”

    N50m Katsina donation: Tinubu dragged on Twitter for ignoring Lagos, Oyo market victims

    Reno Omokri, a former social media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, among other Nigerians have condemned the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, for donating N50m to victims of the Katsina market fire and ignoring affected traders in the South-West.

    Leading the criticism against Tinubu’s gesture to Katisna traders on Twitter, Omokri wrote, “Bola Tinubu, who didn’t visit or donate one kobo to victims of the Sasa market crisis, or to victims of the Ijesha market fire in Lagos, has today donated N50m to victims of the Katsina market fire. Obviously, Tinubu’s charity does not begin at home.”

    Following Omokri’s tweet, there have been barrage of invectives showered on the former Lagos governor for lavishing N50m on Katsina, but kept a deafening silence when same tragedy befall the aforesaid markets in South-West.

    At least, six people died while various shops and houses were burnt during a crisis in Shasha market in Ibadan.

    Also in January, a fire that occurred at Ijesha Market in Lagos led to the destruction of several properties. A total of 62 traders and 28 households were affected in the incident while 14 shops were burnt and 48 others affected.

    Yesterday, Tinubu paid a sympathy visit to traders and other victims of the market in the company of Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State.

    While commiserating with them, the former Lagos governor said market activities should resume despite the level of damages and destruction recorded as the life he believes must continue.

    He told reporters on the sidelines, that the purpose of his visit is to sympathise and commiserate with the victims, the governor and good people of the state particularly the market men and women devastated by the fire.

    Tinubu emphasised the need to promote unity and collaboration among Nigerians, saying “that Nigerians must be their brother’s keepers.”

    The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu have announced a donation of the sum of N50million to victims of the Katsina Central Market Fire.

    Tinubu made the announcement on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the Katsina State government.

    He was received by the state governor, Aminu Masari, and other top government officials in the state.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the Katsina Central Market fire on Monday destroyed goods and properties valued at millions of naira.

    Eyewitnesses attributed the fire to the explosion from gas cylinders sold in one of the shops.

    2023: A Southerner should succeed Buhari – Gov Masari

    Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has said the South should produce the next President.

    Masari stated this during a Channels Television interview, which was aired on Thursday.

    According to the governor, a non-northerner ought to have a shot at the presidency when President Muhammadu Buhari leaves power.

    “With regards to zoning, fair is fair. If you ask me, I would, as a person, Aminu think we should move the presidency to the southern part of the country,” he said

    Although he did not specify which particular geographical region of the south should produce the next Presidency, he, however, added, “South is South.”

    Masari added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has a bright future in the country when compared to other parties.

    He said the APC came at a time when the economy was in a comatose situation, hence the introduction of social programmes link the TraderMoni, AnchorBorrower, School feeding among several others.

    Army debunks report of bandits’ attack on military base in Katsina

    The Nigerian Army has dismissed the report of bandits’ attack on its base and killing of soldiers at Marina in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

    The Director Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, in a statement on Saturday described the report as false and unsubstantiated.

    Yerima said the report in a newspaper publication claimed that unspecified number of soldiers was feared killed in attack on the military post.

    He said that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji had on March 4, eliminated four bandits and captured arms and motorcycle during a clearance operation in the area.

    Yerima said that unconfirmed number of armed men with unspecified number of rustled cattle were sighted and intercepted on Batsari-Runka road.

    According to him, in an attempt to escape from the troops’ onslaught, the bandits sporadically fired at troops direction but the gallant troops responded with superior firepower followed by a hot pursuit thereby forcing the bandits to withdraw in disarray.

    “During the encounter, four bandits were neutralized while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

    “Troops also captured two AK-47 rifles and one motorcycle belonging to the bandits.

    “Regrettably, one brave soldier paid the supreme sacrifice during the encounter,” he said.

    Army Spokesperson said the troops had since dominated general area as well as trailing the escaping bandits.

    He commended the troops for the successes achieved and their commitment so far urged them not to rest on their oars until the North West zone is rid of all criminal activities.

    “Additionally, the good people of the North West are once more assured of the troops’ commitment to safety of lives and properties within the zone.

    “They are also encouraged to avail the troops with timely and credible Information that could assist in the success of their operations,” he said.

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) has flagged off its nationwide membership registration, update, and revalidation exercise in Daura, Katsina State with President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance.

    The flag off paves the way for a stakeholder meeting on Monday, February 1; training of state and local government supervisors on Tuesday, February 2; and training of ward supervisors on Wednesday, February 3; while polling unit supervisors will receive their training on Thursday.

    Meanwhile, the distribution of registration materials and other consumables to registration centers nationwide is ongoing and will end on Monday, February 8.

    The consideration of appeals and complaints from the registration exercise will hold between February 28 and March 5 while the party will display its membership register at all party wards and local government offices between 6th and 9th of March, 2021.

    The national registration committee, led by Niger state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello will be submitting final reports for the consideration of the party’s caretaker/extra-ordinary convention planning committee (CECPC) between 10th – 15th March, 2021.

    Gunmen kidnap Katsina village head

    Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted the village head of Raddah community in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Alhaji Kabir Umar.

    They also injured Umar’s younger brother identified as Aminu on the thigh.

    He’s currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Katsina.

    Residents reported the gunmen stormed the community in large numbers around 2am and operated for hours.

    The residents could not, however, say specifically the number of items stolen by the gunmen.

    One of the residents said: “They abducted our village head and wounded his younger brother on the thigh. But we cannot say exactly the number of items stolen or taken along with them as they kept on shooting during the operation and also while they were leaving the community.”

    The source added that the whereabouts of the village head was still unknown as of Friday morning.

    The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident but failed to give details.

    The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a vice principal, Ibrahim Tukur, for raping his 12-year-old student of a community school in the state.

    Briefing journalists on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Gambo Isah, said the suspect raped the teenager serially before impregnating her.

    He explained that the young girl had been delivered of a baby from the pregnancy through a Caesarean section.

    Tukur and other suspects who were paraded at the Katsina Police Command headquarters were said to have been arrested between January 9 and 14.

    “Ibrahim Tukur is a Vice Principal of a Community School in Rimi Local Government Area. He lured this young girl of about 12 years old and serially had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without the knowledge of the parents,” he said.

    “He even impregnated her. Right now, this young girl has been delivered of a baby out of a caesarian section at the General Hospital.”

    While calling on parents to closely monitor their children, the police spokesman said the Command would thoroughly investigate the matter to the end and prosecute the suspects.

    Other suspects paraded included Auwal Hamzat and Sulaiman Abubakar who were alleged to have engaged in anal sex with three boys who were children of their neighbours.

    The neighbours were said to have reported the incident to the police leading to their arrest.

    Newlyweds, 35 others kidnapped by bandits in Katsina regain freedom

    A new couple and 35 other people kidnapped by bandits in Katsina State have regained freedom from the captivity of their abductors.

    The other victims were mostly women and children abducted from Unguwar Malamai community in Yantumaki District and Babban Duhu village in Danmusa and Safana Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

    Their release on Friday followed the return of 104 other kidnapped victims whose release was secured by the state government, in collaboration with the security agencies and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.

    Recall that the newlyweds were kidnaped by bandits on December 28, 2020, at Runka Community in Safana LGA.

    The new bride, Farida Sani, narrated how she was kidnapped and her 11-day experience in captivity during an interview with Channels Television.

    She said, “When the bandits attacked our town about two weeks ago, they met me inside my bedroom.

    “Upon their arrival, they first burgled my apartment and took me away with my husband. ”

    ” During our stay, they were beating my husband and his male counterparts, but they did not touch me. The place where they kept us was not a room but an open space filled with grasses,” the victim added.

    The new set of returnees were received at the Government House on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa.
