Hundeyin takes over from Adejobi as new force PRO

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has been appointed CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) reports that appointment comes barely 24 hours after his predecessor, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and redeployed as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) had approved Adejobi’s elevation, with the Force Headquarters describing the redeployment as part of routine administrative procedures to strengthen operational leadership across the country.

Police authorities said his posting to Delta State, one of Nigeria’s most operationally sensitive regions, was “strategic,” placing him at the centre of tackling violent crimes, oil theft, communal clashes, and other security challenges.

Senior police sources dismissed reports that Adejobi was “controversially removed” from his spokesperson role, stressing that his elevation was neither punitive nor political.

“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” a senior officer at the Force Headquarters.

Adejobi’s tenure as Force PRO was marked by consistent efforts to professionalise police communication, build trust with civil society, and enhance transparency in public engagement.

His new role in Delta State requires him to coordinate tactical deployments, supervise field operations, and strengthen police-community relations.

The police hierarchy expressed confidence that Adejobi’s experience in communication and policing reforms would serve him well in addressing Delta’s complex security landscape.

    Okiro denies usurping I-G’s powers

A former Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mike Okiro, has denied plans to usurp the powers of the Inspector-General of Police ( I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun.

Okiro made the clarification in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Supreme Ibitomi, on Saturday in Abuja.

“Our attention has been drawn to publications in some quarters claiming that Okiro is usurping the powers of the current Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun.

“We categorically state that these claims are entirely false. It is unfortunate that some individuals will resort to spreading falsehoods to tarnish the reputation of a respected figure like Okiro,”he said.

He said that the recent convergence of retired Inspectors General of Police was to discuss the compulsory retirement of some senior police officers.

He said that the forum, comprising former I-Gs, met to examine the justification behind these retirements.

Theformer I-G said that his role was merely as the chosen leader of the team, and not as an individual attempting to exert influence over the current police leadership.

According to him, the initiative is a testament to the forum’s commitment to the welfare of police officers and the integrity of the force.

“Egbetokun is an intelligent, well-educated and experienced police officer who does not require external influence to carry out his constitutional duty as the head of the country’s police force.

“We are convinced that this publication emanates from a group of people who are not concerned about the plight of these retired police officers,” he said.

He assured that members of the forum would continue to foster harmony and advocate for the welfare of their colleagues in the service.

“We will not be swayed by malicious propaganda. Our focus remains on ensuring that the rights and dignity of both serving and retired police officers are protected and respected.

“The publication will not intimidate or stampede the forum into abandoning its commitment to the welfare of these officers; rather, it will galvanise our resolve to pursue justice and fairness for all,”he said.

Okiro urged the public to disregard these malicious claims and focus on the real issues affecting the nation.

“The forum will continue to contribute to the growth and development of the Nigeria Police Force.

“We call on well-meaning Nigerians to support our efforts in promoting the welfare of police officers and advancing the cause of justice and security in our country,”he said.

IGP vows to deal with attackers, killers of police personnel

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, says the force will deal decisively with anyone who assaults or kills a police personnel.

Egbetokun made the vow on Friday in Enugu while addressing officers and men of the Police Command in the state during his two-day working visit to the Command.

“We will not tolerate any assault on our police officers not to talk of killing police personnel. An assault on any police personnel is criminal and an assault on me.

“In 2025, we are not going to take any kind of assault on our personnel again. Anywhere there is assault or killing of any policeman, you all must respond commensurately and appropriately. We will not tolerate it anymore,” he said.

The IGP said that there would be massive training and retraining of police personnel across board in commands, formations, squads and units.

“We are aiming at professionalism, discipline and competence this year,” he said.

Egbetokun said that President Bola Tinubu was committed to the welfare and well-being of police personnel.

He noted that the president acknowledged the sacrifices police officers and men had been putting to ensure security nationwide.

Egbetokun commended the police command in Enugu State for its efforts in ensuring security in the state.

“I am quite impressed by what the Commissioner, officers and men of the Command as well as the state government and residents are doing to ensure security here.

“I am super proud of your conduct and achievements in the command, which the governor had attested to me.

“You are going to record more achievements this 2025, when we start giving additional support to the Command,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, appreciated the IGP for the visit and his fatherly support to the state Command.

Uzuegbu appealed to the IGP for more personnel, arms and ammunition, operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) among others.

IG visits family of man who died in police custody

The Inspector-General (IG) of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Sunday paid an unscheduled visit to Ilorin in view of the death of a man reportedly tortured to death by the police.

The 35-year-old Jimoh Abdulquadri was said to have been tortured to death by some policemen at the Kwara Command late Friday.

The deceased, who was of Balogun Fulani community at Erubu in Ilorin, reportedly died in police custody in questionable circumstances.

During a condolence visit to the deceased’s community, Egbetokun pleaded with the entire members of the community, especially the youths, not to take the law into their hands.

He disclosed that he had directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Abdulquadri.

The IG assured that the matter would not be swept under the carpet, saying “justice will be served”.

Expressing his regrets about the incident, Egbetokun recalled how Ilorin indigenes received him as the Commissioner of Police (CP) in 2020.

He added however that it was saddening that he had to visit the state in a sour mood.

“I am always very excited to visit Ilorin because when I was posted here in 2020, I was warmly received by the people who often prayed for me.

“Your prayers then still go with me, and it is not an exaggeration that I claim Ilorin indigeneship.

“I am very sad to be here today (Sunday) on a condolence visit over the death of Jimoh, of which circumstances surrounding his death are very worrisome.

“But justice must be served. I have already directed investigation, and I have given necessary directives to the CP here. We will get to the root of this case,” the IG told his audience.

He however cautioned the community against rushing into conclusion but to await the findings of the investigative committee which would be made public.

“Let us not jump into conclusions. I have visited the State Command and I have directed a thorough investigation.”

Egbetokun assured that the Police would support the family of the deceased.

“We know that no amount of support will ease their pains, but we’re sure that our efforts will go a long way. I pray that no sad story will bring me to Kwara again,” he said.

Various speakers at the occasion, including the Balogun Fulani, youths and the Ilorin Decendants Union representative, demanded justice regarding the death of Abdulquadri.

The deceased was arrested by police operatives on Thursday for allegedly owing one Peter, a fellow colleague at Olam Farms in Offa, the sum of N220,000. He reportedly died in custody late Friday.

Report any police who use my name to exploit you – IGP tells Nigerians

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Kayode Egbetokun has called on Nigerians to report any police officer who leverage his name for fraudulent activities or extortion, stressing that such officers will face severe disciplinary measures.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports IGP Egbetokun made the call while addressing Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and heads of various formations at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan International Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja recently.

Egbetokun expressed concerns and condemnation on the alleged cases of extortion and high-handedness perpetrated by certain recalcitrant members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP, during his speech, charged the senior officers on proper supervision of the activities of officers at their various levels and ensure the highest standard of professional conduct is maintained and upheld in the course of carrying out their lawful duties.

The IGP also ordered the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and other disciplinary Units to carry out routine checks on the activities of officers across the country as part of efforts to curb misconduct and corruption  tendencies amongst officers, and ensure strict punishment is meted on erring officers; and that supervisory officers found wanting in this regard will not be spared of vicarious liability.

Similarly, the IGP issued a stern warning to officers regarding the unethical practice of name dropping the IGP and other senior officers to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.

The IGP emphasized that any officer found guilty of leveraging his name for fraudulent activities or extortion will face severe disciplinary measures, reaffirming that the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, unprofessional behavior, and misconduct.

Finally, IGP Egbetokun implored the public to exercise caution and report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion in investigation of cases, highlighting the crucial role citizens play in collaborative policing of the society and its police.

  • JUST IN: FCT, Rivers, Delta get new police commissioners

JUST IN: FCT, Rivers, Delta get new police commissioners

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun on Thursday redeployed new Commissioners of Police (CP) to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Delta and Rivers States respectively.

The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement revealed the immediate deployment of CP Olatunji Disu as the new CP FCT. Disu was in charge of internal security affairs of Rivers State before he was reassigned.

According to the IGP, ACP Abaniwonda Olufemi is to report to Rivers State Command, as its new police commissioner. He was the CP of Delta State Command.

For Delta State, Egbetokun said CP Peter Opara would take over its security affairs.

It would be recalled that four CPs had been posted to Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Akwa-Ibom State Commands.

The deployment includes the posting of CP Danladi Nda to Abia State Command; CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale to Lagos State Command; CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya to Ebonyi State Command and CP Festus Eribo to Akwa-Ibom State Command.

The statement read partly: “The posting of these strategic managers reflects the mission of the Inspector-General of Police to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilization of human resources available to the Force.

“The IGP has, however, urged the new CPs of State Commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility.

“He further encouraged them to key into the police reform plans, which will help the progress of the Nigeria Police Force and the growth of the country in general.”

  • CDS, IGP deny aiding, abetting activities of illegal miners

CDS, IGP deny aiding, abetting activities of illegal miners

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, have denied suggestions that their personnel provide security for illegal miners in the country.

The duo made the denial  at a public hearing convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Mineral Resources.

The hearing, which was conducted on Thursday in Abuja, was coordinated by Rep. Jonathan Gaza, chairman of the committee.

The security chiefs were  responding to a query by the Committee that the members of the armed forces and the police were providing security for illegal miners.

The committee had based its stance on “reliable reports”.

According to the CDS, represented by the Director of Operations, Defence Headquarters, AVM Nnaemeka Ilo, army personnel only provide protection for legitimate requests made by legitimate miners, who operate in conflict-inflicted areas.

He said the armed forces of Nigeria was ever ready to give all the necessary support needed to stop illegal mining.

“It is not our primary duty, but part of our responsibility is that whenever the civil authority tasks us to do something, we have to do that.

“So, for the Armed Forces to be here, it shows we are ready to support the agencies involved in stopping illegal mining, including the civil defence, police and the ministry.”

He dismissed insinuation of supporting illegal miners as ”simply untrue”.

“If there is any such allegations, please we would want to know which of the mines, or who brought the allegations so that we would take it up from there.

“If there is any such allegation, we want to know who brought that up, but as it is, that is a lie, sir.

“Legitimate requests are made for the military to give protection to legitimate miners that licence have been issued to, in conflict-inflicted areas.

“Once we get such requests, what we normally do is to write to the Ministry of Mines.

“In fact, we direct them to send their letters to the Ministry of Mines. So, if the Ministry of Mines requests us, because of the nature of the environment, because of the conflict, we do sometimes give protection.”

He, however, said that such protection was limited to those people licensed by the government to carry out mining activities from the Ministry of Mines, based on requests from the ministry.”

Also, the Inspector General of Police, who was represented by AIG Ademola Hamzat, said no responsible organisation paid by the public would do anything that would be against the wish of the people.

He said the police often provide security  to some individuals established to be under serious threat, especially in crisis areas.

“But, from my own office, there is nothing to show that we protect any illegal mining site,” he said.

IGP sets up panel to investigate Abia hook up saga

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the monitoring unit to conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a businessman, Andrew Ochekwo, who was reportedly linked to the disappearance of two ladies, Celine Ndudim and Afiba Tandoh, in the Aba area of Abia State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, where he disclosed that Egbetokun mandated the monitoring unit to complete the investigation in two weeks and present a report.

The statement read in part, “The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the monitoring unit to conduct a thorough and high-powered investigation into the suspected murder of one Andrew Ochekwo.

“This directive comes amid the numerous allegations, arguments, and counterarguments surrounding the case, which also involves the disappearance of two ladies, Celine and Afiba, after their trip to visit the said Andrew in Aba, Abia State, for which he was alleged to be responsible.

“In light of the public interest and the gravity of the allegations, the IGP has deemed it necessary to institute a meticulous investigation into the roles played by the team which carried out the initial investigation in Abia State, and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team, to unravel the veritable facts of the matter. The monitoring unit has been given a two-week timeframe to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report.”

Adejobi said Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the case would be handled with the utmost professionalism and integrity, urging all well-meaning members of the public and all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the investigation process to proceed without interference.

“Similarly, all persons/groups with relevant information regarding this case are encouraged to come forward and assist with the investigation, and all such information provided will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality. You can reach us via email at pressforabuja@police.gov.ng or our social media accounts.

“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation and support of the public and hereby reassures that timely updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Adejobi added.

  • E. K. Clark writes IGP over renewed threat to impeach Gov Fubara

    E. K. Clark writes IGP over renewed threat to impeach Gov Fubara

Elder statesman Edwin Clark has said the renewed threat of impeachment against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara may lead to breakdown of law and order in the State.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Pa Clark said this in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday.

Clark in the letter stressed that the threat to impeach Governor Fubara might cause a breakdown of law and order and that the consequences will not only affect Rivers State, but will also affect the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

The elder statesman noted that IGP Egbetokun has a duty to stop the fraudulent former Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from parading themselves and issuing provocative statements to intimidate and increase tension in Rivers State, which he said may one day burst into open conflagration.

The letter reads in full below:

THE THREAT BY THE FORMER RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBERS TO IMPEACH THE POPULARLY ELECTED GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE, SIR SIMINALAYI FUBARA IS AN ACTION THAT IS LIKELY TO CAUSE BREACH OF PEACE AND BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER IN RIVERS STATE.

    My dear IGP,

Firstly, I wish to apologize for addressing this letter to you because we have never met and we have never spoken to each other since your appointment as the Inspector General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I have watched your activities with kin interest and great satisfaction. Please accept my belated heartfelt congratulation on your appointment as the Inspector General of Police whereby you have taken over effectively and I hope you will perform your duties impeccably, fair and just and without any discrimination, political victimisation or witch-hunting of political opponents and have the courage and ability to confront the so called sacred cows in our society.

    2. I have decided to address this letter to you as a senior citizen and Elder Statesman and I have served my country for over 70 years and I will be 97 on the 25th of May. It is therefore my duty to pray to the almighty God at all times for the peace and stability of our great country. We owe it as an obligation to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government which will be one year on the 29th of May. We must therefore condemn and prevent any action by any individual or group of individuals that would threaten the peace, stability and unity of this country. We have no other country to go to if there is any uncontrollable crisis in the country and this is the main reason why I have been involved in the looming crisis in Rivers State between the former Governor Barr Nyesom Wike who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the current Governor, His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara which is spreading like wildfire and every attempt by Mr President to resolve it amicably has not succeeded.

I am the leader of the South-South Geopolitical zone and leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF). I am from Delta State. As a father, it is therefore my duty to see that the people of South-South and other Nigerians live in peace and harmony. I believe in justice, fairplay and equity, irrespective of whose ox is gored.

    3. I have been involved in Rivers State affairs since 1951, before the creation of Rivers State and more actively in May 1967 when Rivers State was created with eleven (11) other states and when the Biafran forces occupied Rivers State and Mid-West State in the same year. Sadly, I also vividly remember the emotional moment when two UK trained University lecturers named Dr. Boardman Nyanayo and George Amangala, came to my residence at No. 16, Robert Road, Warri, to inform me that they had resigned from their positions as lecturers at the Federal Government College, Warri, in order to join the Nigerian army to fight for the liberation of the newly created Rivers State, which was occupied by Biafran forces at the time and that they have come to seek for my blessings and I did. Indeed, the liberation of Rivers State, by joining Major Isaac Adaka Boro and other Ijaw fighters, these young men formed a very formidable force. Time and space will not allow me here to tell the story of these gallant men, who unfortunately, all of them, numbering over 140, lost their lives. The only surviving leader was Captain Sam Owonaro, who was left with the scars of the war and remained in a wheelchair until his demise in his home town in Kiama in Bayelsa State in 2020.

It is indeed very provocative and insulting that Mr Nyesom Wike the FCT Minister who is the mastermind of the issues bedevilling Rivers State and who was born on the 13th of December 1967 after these two events should accuse his fathers and leaders like me of being interlopers, daring to challenge his leadership of Rivers State politics.

    4. Fubara-Wike feud

Mr Wike helped Mr Fubara to become Governor of Rivers, but the duo parted ways because of the Minister’s ambition to control the politics and governance in the state.

The crisis deteriorated, prompting President Bola Tinubu to midwife a controversial peace deal between Messrs Wike and Fubara, after the seats of 27 pro-Wike lawmakers in the Rivers House of Assembly were declared vacant following their defection to the APC.

But despite the peace deal, the feud between the two former allies – Mr Wike and Fubara – has persisted.

Nyesom Wike should therefore stop making noise about the sponsorship of Sim Fubara because he knew the reasons he supported Sim Fubara to become the Governor of Rivers State to automatically centre immunity on the Governor so therefore he will not be available for questioning as a prosecution witness by EFCC against Mr Nyesom Wike.

    IMPEACHMENT

Why Nyesom Wike decided to impeach his boy in favour of the former Speaker Martins Amaewhule his kith and kin from his home?

On Saturday 28th October, 2023, Nyesom Wike held a meeting with the former Rivers State House of Assembly members who are under his control and directed them to move a motion of impeachment against the Governor, on Monday 30th October, 2023 at an ungodly hour at about 7am. The members, about 23 of them signed the impeachment motion. These same members led by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, assembled at the same venue on Monday 11th December, 2023 where they declared for APC singing APC song and waiving APC flag. The other faction led by Edison Ehie, the leader of the House, the Speaker of the House remained legitimate members of the House while the other members automatically lost their seat in accordance with Section 109(1g) 2 of the 1999 Constitution as amended because there was no split in the PDP as defined by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in these judgements.

    5. Mr Nyesom Wike has been involved in politics of madness while also parading himself as a senior PDP member and fighting his rival at the PDP primaries, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. To confirm his claims that he is still a member of PDP in Rivers State; he mobilized supporters for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which held on Thursday, 18th of April 2024 at the PDP Secretariat in Abuja and he, Wike attended the NEC meeting from beginning to the end. The report is available in the media. His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara was also present at the meetings.

THE CONTINUOUS PROVOCATIVE STATEMENTS AND ACTIONS BY CHIEF NYESOM WIKE AND THE 27 FORMER MEMBERS OF THE RIVERS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

The recent unprovoked announcement by the Speaker and 26 former Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly might cause a breakdown of law and order in Rivers State and the consequences of such crisis will not only affect Rivers State politically, socially and economically but will also affect the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. We have enough of such crises of all dimensions in nearly all parts of this country already and we therefore prevent any more of such crises. I had earlier advised and appealed to our President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call his Minister Nyesom Wike to order to avoid this looming crisis and that the interest of the entire country should supersede the interest of an individual or a small group of people otherwise the consequences will be disastrous.

It is in this spirit I am addressing this letter to you as the Inspector General of Police who is in charge of the peace and stability of this country. You are therefore fully aware of the dangerous precarious situation we are facing today in this country whereby the people are no longer safe to move around, to go to their farms to feed themselves; I seriously warn that if the sanctity of the country’s constitution is not obeyed by its citizens, the consequences that will follow will be anarchy.

The 27 former Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have automatically forfeited their seats in accordance with section 109 (1g) 2 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, which states; “g, being a person whose election to the House of Assembly was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another part before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected; 2, The Speaker of the House of Assembly shall give effect to subsection (1) of this section, so however that the Speaker or a member shall first present evidence satisfactory to the House that any of the provisions of that subsection has become applicable in respect of the member.”

Above all, section 1 of our Supreme Law i.e the Constitution states, “sub1, This Constitution is supreme and its provisions shall have binding force on all authorities and persons throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

It will therefore be madness and suicidal for any responsible and patriotic Nigerian to breach the Constitution of Nigeria.

At this juncture, It may also be necessary to cite a publication in The Guardian dated 18th April 2015; a case where a Member of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Labour Party defected to ACN; in fact Ifedayo Abegunde was the one who went to Akure High Court to challenge the constitutional position and lost; he appealed to the Court of Appeal and also lost, then he appealed again to the Supreme Court of Nigeria where his case was finally rejected and he lost his seat in the House of Representatives. Justice Musa Muhammad cited previous decisions by the Supreme Court in FEDECO vs Goni and Attorney General of the Federation vs Abubakar. He held that “The principles enunciated by this court in the two cases – FEDECO vs Goni and Attorney General of the Federation vs Abubakar supra- is to the effect that only such fractionalisation, fragmentation, splintering or ‘division’ that makes it impossible or impracticable for a particular party to function, as such will, by virtue of the proviso to section 68 (1) (g), justify a person’s defection to another party and the retention of his seat for the unexpired term in the House, in spite of the defection. “Otherwise, has rightly held by the courts below, the defector automatically loses his seat.”

“Justice Muhammad explained that by virtue of the combined provisions of section 68(a) and (g), as well as Section 222(a), (e) and (f) of the constitution, division in a party at the state level did not entitle a legislator to abandon the party on which platform he or she contested and won his or her seat.”

You have a duty therefore to stop these fraudulent former Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from parading themselves and issuing provocative statements to intimidate and increase tension in Rivers State which may one day burst into open conflagration.

You also have a duty to protect the constitution of Nigeria without which there will be no Nigeria.

Mr Inspector General of Police, it is even more disturbing that these former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are carrying out their illegal activities under the cover of policemen in uniform on whom rest a primary duty to enforce the law. This must be very disturbing to you as it is to all responsible Nigerians.

Finally, I sincerely appeal to you to use your office as head of the Law enforcement arm of the country to advise Mr President and other members of the National Security Council of which you are the center, to bring this show of shame to an end and spare Nigeria from being a laughing stock to the entire world. This is more so as Mr President and all of you swore to protect and defend the constitution of Nigeria, which now appears to be overlooked despite the glaring infringement being openly carried out in favour of one individual and his followers.

I have taken the liberty to send copies of this letter to other security Chiefs including, National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Director General Department of State Services (DG DSS), Director General National Intelligence Agency (DG NIA) and Director Military Intelligence (DMI).

Be assured that, I will continue to pray for you as a father that God will give you the wisdom and courage to carry out the duties of your office and God will continue to protect you and all the men of the Nigerian Police Force.

    Thank you and God Bless.

CHIEF Dr Edwin .K. Clark OFR,CON

Leader Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF)

Goodluck Jonathan disagrees with IGP on State Police

Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan has disagreed with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Kayode Egbetokun on his position on State Police.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Goodluck Jonathan to have said the issue of State Police in Nigeria is not negotiable as it is already “a settled matter”.

Jonathan, who spoke at the national dialogue on State Police organised by the House of Representatives in Abuja, said: “There is no way we can manage our internal security if we don’t have state police”.

Drawing from his time as the President, Dr, Jonathan revealed that the 2014 National Conference unanimously endorsed the establishment of “State Police, National Border Guard and National Coast Guard”.

The former President, however, said that Nigerians including the National Assembly must focus on how to create an operational framework for State Police in a way that enhances Nigeria’s security architecture for the overall security and progress of Nigeria.

Speaking further, Jonathan highlighted the perceived role of politicians, especially governors whom many analysts believe would use State Police to harass political opponents.

The former President called on the panellists in the national dialogue to focus on: “How do we ensure that state political actors do not abuse the state police.”

Earlier in his goodwill message, IGP Egbetokun had expressed his disapproval of the creation of State Police, in line with the concerns raised by Jonathan.

He, however, suggested the merger of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with the police for effectiveness.
