    Stop taking complaints against police to social media, IGP tells Nigerians

    The acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday in Ibadan urged Nigerians to stop taking complaints against police officers to social media.

    Mr Egbetokun advised stakeholders meeting at the headquarters of the Oyo Police Command, stating that “There are a lot of falsehoods going on on the social media.”

    The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by representatives of traditional and religious leaders and the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

    There were also in attendance leaders of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Igbo and Hausa communities.

    The IGP said Nigerians should feel free to report any complaint against police officers to the commissioners of police or any other senior officer that would ensure justice is done.

    “If you have any complaint against the police, don’t go to social media. Go to the commissioners of police in the state,” said Mr Egbetokun.

    He noted, “Some of our men will misbehave; we cannot guarantee that all of them will behave well. Report to the CPs or any superior officer who will take it up and ensure justice is done.”

    Mr Egbetokun said his mission in police administration was to put in place professional, service-driven, law-compliant and people-friendly police officers.

    He said he desired a police force that would respond adequately to the dynamics of crime and criminality in society and “ensure citizens sleep with their two eyes closed.”

    “We are going to adopt community policing by taking cognisance of certain peculiarities of each community through collaboration with other security agencies and state-owned security outfits to fight and reduce crime,” the acting IGP said.

    He called for the cooperation and support of all stakeholders to achieve results and rid society of crime and criminality.

    In his remarks, the national chairman of PCRC, Ibrahim Olaniyan, pledged the committee’s readiness to key into the community policing strategy of the IGP.

    Also speaking, the chairman of CCII, Niyi Ajewole, said Oyo State and Nigeria have started witnessing good results immediately after Mr Egbetokun took over as the acting I-G.

    The IGP was at the meeting with a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Sylvester Alabi, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force’s Zone II, Yomi Oladimeji.

    The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebola Hamzat, and several others were also with him.

    The Nigeria Police Force has insisted not to reverse its earlier policy and decision of withdrawing Police Mobile Force, (PMF)  personnel from  important personalities.

    Recall that the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, had promised to remove PMF from  VIPs, however promised to protect them.

    It said recent news circulating regarding the possible reversal of the PMF reform policy was untrue.

    CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer,  in a statement yesterday, said: “The Force wishes to clarify that the decision to withdraw the PMF personnel from escort and guard duties stands firm, and there will be no going back on this critical policy change.

    “The withdrawal process has already commenced with a comprehensive report, which has been submitted by the constituted committee assigned to oversee the seamless implementation of this directive.

    “And the IGP has activated the mobilization process for the establishment of the Police Quick Intervention Squad which precedes the withdrawal policy.

    “The decision to withdraw Police Mobile Force personnel from VIP duties is part of ongoing efforts to optimize the allocation of resources and enhance the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force in its core mandate of safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens.

    “While poised to ensure a smooth transition, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to providing adequate security arrangements for VIPs who are entitled to such protection.

    “Meanwhile, the Force will carefully consider the provisions of Sections 23 to 25 of the Police Act 2020, in recruiting more supernumerary officers, to handle VIP security responsibilities.

    “No VIP or critical infrastructure will be left unprotected as a result of the new policy.

    “The Inspector-General of Police remains resolute in his pursuit of reforms and initiatives that will enhance the professionalism and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

    “The decision to withdraw Police Mobile Force personnel from VIPs is driven by the need to create a more robust, efficient, and people-centered police force that caters to the security needs of all citizens equally.

    “The IGP, therefore, urges the public and all stakeholders to support and cooperate with the Nigeria Police Force during this transition period to strengthen the security apparatus and create a safer environment for everyone to thrive.”

    The Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, held a heartfelt thanksgiving service at the Redemption Pavilion, Victoria Island, Lagos, today Sunday, expressing gratitude to God for his faithfulness and marvelous deeds in his life, and in the nation.

    In a statement issued by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations officer said the service was a solemn occasion for the IGP to offer prayers of thanksgiving for his appointment and the successes recorded in safeguarding lives and property across the nation so far.

    “Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who was personally present at the church service, took the opportunity to shower encomium on the IGP, praising his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

    “During the service, which was also attended by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Research and Planning, DIG Frank Mba, mni, AIG Zone 2, AIG Ali Mohammed, CP Lagos State, CP Idowu Owohunwa, CP Ogun, CP Abiodun Alamutu and many others, the parish Pastor, Pastor Bisi Olowoyo, commended the IGP for his heart of thanksgiving and prayed for his success as the new Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria.

    The Nigeria Police Force has refutes report of withdrawing police aides from certain politicians and their relatives.

    Force public relations officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi says the report is fake and did not emanate from the force or any of its formations.

    CSP Adejobi further emphasized that, the signal deviates from the Police telegraphic message structure and standard as the signal bears the signature of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, which is very unusual as signal of such will typically be signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, who heads such formations, and not a higher-ranking officer.

    Meanwhile, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered a thorough investigation, to unravel the source, while assuring that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for drafting and disseminating the said signal.

    I will rid the country of criminality – Egbetokun

    The new Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has promised to deal with criminals and rid the country of criminality.

    Egbetokun made this known on Tuesday when he was being decorated by Nigeria’s vice president, Kassim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

    Recall that President Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as the acting IGP yesterday.

    Egbetokun said “now that I have just been decorated, I am looking forward to taking over tomorrow morning at 11 am.

    “I really can’t describe how I feel presently, but if I have to tell you anything, I will tell you that right now I feel like a tiger inside of me, ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria.

    “And at other times, I feel like a lion in me, ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria. That’s my feeling right now,” said the newly appointed IGP.

    Egbetokun’s predecessor, former IG Baba Alkali, expressed his confidence in the new leader, emphasizing their shared history and their collaborative work over the years.
