Fayemi gave the assurance during an inspection of the projects in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday.

The governor, who inspected the terminal buildings, runway and other sections of the state airport project, expressed delight at the pace and quality of work done.

He also expressed confidence in the ability of the company handling the projects to deliver within the stipulated time.

According to him, the company has all the necessary materials, equipment, experience and expertise required for the timely completion of the job.

“The terminal and the run way are almost completed; its major section is already asphalted; the rest is just concrete stone base and it will be asphalted.

“I believe they will complete that within the time we have agreed,” he said.

Fayemi further said that the company had started the terminal building and the access road connecting the main Ado Ekiti-Ijan road through the airport.

“I think they are on course; I have every confidence that they will finish before I leave office.

“We have tried them before; we knew they would do it; they did Ado-Iyin road and they are doing this.

“They will soon start the Omisanjana road. So they have the experience, knowledge and the expertise to accomplish the task given to them and we are impressed,” the governor said.

He disclosed that over 720 workers are currently working round the clock at the project site.

The governor also visited the ultra modern council of traditional rulers’ chamber, Harding Model College, a bus terminal and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Model School.

According to him, the school, when completed, will accommodate large number of pupils who would have gained admission to some of the missionary schools which had been returned by government to their original owners.

He said that the UBEC Model School at Ekiti Knowledge Zone area would provide space for students at Ago Aduloju and Ago Ayegunle.

This, the governor said, was to address the challenge of attending school in far away Ijan-Ekiti by pupils.

Fayemi also said that the people of the state would have cause to smile, as his efforts at ensuring that the projects were delivered on time was going on as planned.

2023: I will win APC presidential ticket – Fayemi

The Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Gov. of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday, expressed confidence in winning the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Primary Election and emerging as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election.

Fayemi, who made the declaration during his presidential campaign tour in Maiduguri, said that he was not aversed to allowing all presidential aspirants from across the country to vie for the APC ticket, pointing out that there’re competent Nigerians in all parts of the country.

“Esteemed leaders and members of our great party, we are once again in the throes of another national electoral cycle at which Nigerians across the length and breadth of the nation will be called upon to designate their preferred choice for the leadership of our beloved country.

“As can be expected, our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will be a key factor and actor in the elections.

“And that is as it should be given that we are the ruling party at the federal centre, and are responsible for governing 22 states in the federation.

“Easily, we are the most national of parties. We also remain the most sought-after political association in the land.

“It will not be an exaggeration, and I know most of you will agree as well,
that given our present preponderance in the national political system, the
forthcoming elections will be very much about us as a party as about anything else.

“Nigerians reposed considerable trust in us when they voted us into office in 2015 and renewed our national mandate in 2019. That trust also came with and continues to carry enormous responsibility that we have tried, even in the race of various odds, to discharge as faithfully as possible.”

He added that: “As it is, all things considered, we are the party to beat in 2023.

“As a foundation member, and one of the many actors who worked tirelessly to help create the APC out of a coalition of like-minded parties and interests united by a progressive and forward looking to national commitment, unity and transformation, I was immeasurably proud of
the zeal with which our cadres embraced the party’s agenda for change and renewal.

“And we were fortunate to be blessed from the outset with a leadership group who left no stone unturned to ensure that we went into election as a united force that could be trusted by Nigerians and which had to be
    reckoned with by our competitors.

“To the credit of our party and His Excellency, President Muhammadu
Buhari, we have deliberately sought to make multiparty political competition in Nigeria less uncivil and much cleaner.

“We have also successfully ensured that the voices of citizens as the electorate count more than ever before. Edo and Anambra states are testimonies to the gallant effort that our President and leader has personally championed to make the national political system saner and more reflective of the true and genuine will of the people.

“We have every reason to be proud and to hold our heads high for these and other achievements. But we have, however, also been confronted with differing magnitudes challanges which are not always of our
making, that have either obstructed us or even thwarted some of our noble plans.

“Not least among these challenges is the security situation in the country, a problem we inherited and which has continued to be a
source of immense worry for all Nigerians, rightly so. The security question is one that must be topmost in our range of priorities.

“Added to this are adverse domestic pressures and external shocks on the economy that have affected our quest massively to dent unemployment and overcome some of its deleterious effects on the populace, especially our teeming population of young people.

“Esteemed import of the members foregoing of is the simple: APC, While the we can be proud of the road we have travelled since 2015, we cannot afford to rest on our laurels as a party or be complacent about anything.

“It is imperative that we openly and honestly acknowledge the important national tasks ahead and develop a coherent and comprehensive plan that can enable us to confront them.

“This we must do by resolutely learning lessons of experience. We should also be ready to mobilise ourselves for the urgent and necessary task of rebuilding the hope of our compatriots both in Project Nigeria and in our ability as a party.”

The governor said he knew the nooks and crannies of the country and had served APC faithfully, and believes that the majority of the party delegates will vote for him to emerge the party’s flagbearer.

“I’m very confident of winning, I’m very very comfortable in the APC, I’m a foundation member of the APC and I know the nooks and crannies of this country.

“I have served the APC faithfully, I was the first Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and in that capacity, I served all my colleagues that were members of the Governors Forum then.

“Now that I’m the Chairman of the entire Nigeria Governors Forum, I have also gained the trust and confidence of all Governors in ensuring that I defend, protect and promote Nigeria in all spheres.

“This job that I seek is about improving the condition of the ordinary Nigerians and it’s an opportunity to build on the gains of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and also to address the gaps,” Fayemi said.

On the clamour by some APC leaders to zone the presidency to the south, Fayemi warned that competence must not be sacrificed on the altar of zoning, but want every part of the country to have a sense of belonging in governance.

The governor stated that he’s a bridge builder and stressed the need for inclusivity in the governance of the country.

“Nigeria is a diverse country, there’re competent people from all parts of Nigeria. My role has always been bridge-building and unifying in Nigeria and I believe that Nigerians of diverse competencies come from all parts of Nigeria, they can throw their hat into the ring.

“But when you have a multicultural, multi-religious divided society, you also need measures to build trust and confidence in the country, so that everybody can feel a sense of ownership and a sense of belonging.

“Zoning must never undermine competence and zoning must never be anti-democratic,” Fayemi stressed.

He said that APC’s search for the presidential candidate that would succeed Buhari was about good governance and the overall interest of Nigerians.

Fayemi stated that the presidential primary was not a competition, but “about competing visions and I hope my vision will be the successful one that our party members will rally round, as it is not a do-or-die.”

He expressed optimism that he would receive “special favours” from Gombe delegates, having presented his credentials to them.

“I am in the state to justify my candidacy. The contest is about competing visions.

“We are to present our visions to the people; the visions will be scrutinised and then a conclusion will be reached by members of the party,” he said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential hopeful expressed sadness at the passing of the late Oba adding that with his transition, a big Iroko had fallen.

Tinubu recalled that his last encounter with Oba Adeyemi was during his last visit to his palace sometime in February to seek his prayers and blessings for his presidential ambition.

“l had an abiding personal relationship with Alaafin whom I deeply respected. He was a Mentor, leader and father figure.

” I visited Kabiyesi in February in Oyo to seek his prayers and blessings which he graciously gave, little did I know it was the last time we would see each other face to face,” he said.

Tinubu noted that Alaafin was one of the most influential, greatly respected traditional rulers in Yorubaland, Nigeria and indeed Africa and beyond.

“Alaafin fostered harmony and brought prosperity and development to the ancient Oyo Kingdom.

“He was loved by his people. Wisely ruling on the throne for 52 years, he became the longest reigning Alaafin that ever ruled Oyo Kingdom.

“An elder-statesman and patriot, Alaafin Adeyemi was bold and courageous. He spoke truth to power.

“His interventions in national affairs helped the nation navigate difficult moments and helped usher a more just society.

“He played vital roles in the struggle for democracy, working assiduously towards the establishment of our democracy,” he said.

The former governor who said that he was deeply touched by the demise of Oba Adeyemi commisserates with his immediate family, the Oyomesi, the chiefs, Gov. Seyi Makinde, the government and the people of Oyo kingdom.

“I pray that his family, Oyo Kingdom, the Yoruba race and indeed all Nigerians find consolation and strength in that we must now dedicate ourselves to live up to the ideals for which Alaafin stood,” Tinubu said.

Alaafin, an iconic monarch – Ooni

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has described the passage of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, as a loss to the entire Oduduwa race worldwide.

This is contained in a statement by his Director of Media & Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, made available to newsmen on Saturday.

Ooni Ogunwusi, who doubles as the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, stated that the late Alaafin was a worthy elder whose entire life was dedicated to the promotion of the prestigious Yoruba culture and advancement of humanity.

“We have lost a great icon, a great monarch, who saw Oyo through civilization, and modern development without jettisoning the cultural sacredness of the throne first occupied by Alaafin Oranmiyan The Great.

“Ile Oodua Palace and the Ooni had a great working relationship with the late Alaafin who gave his best in resolving major conflicts in Yoruba land and uniting all sons and daughters of Oduduwa globally among other landmark achievements.

“The late Alaafin is one of the privileged elders that contributed to the growth of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and also saw the country through military and democratic eras with unquantifiable positive inputs,” he said.

Ooni Ogunwusi recalled his last encounter with the late Oyo Royal Father early last month when they both held a closed door meeting of peace and reconciliation with some frontline politicians of Yoruba origin at Ibadan.

According to him, Alaafin made a promise to make his first visit to the Ooni before the middle of the year.

Ooni prayed for the soul of the late Alaafin as well as the family to have the fortitude to bear his death.

He also prayed that Oyo would be spiritually guided to complete the burial of the Royal Father in full accordance with the culture and traditions of their ancestors.

“While the demise of Oba Adeyemi would be greatly missed for his indelible imprint as a great descendant of Oduduwa, the Ooni hereby urges the entire House of Oduduwa worldwide to continue to pray for the deceased’s family and Oyo indigenes at this trying time.

“May the Almighty Olodumare also be with the Oyomesi at this critical time that may challenge the culture and traditions of their ancestors in the process of burial rites and the process of selecting the next Alaafin.

“The position of Alaafin is too culturally important to be handled in a way that undermines our collective traditions and culture.

“God shall solidly stand with the Oyomesi and the entire Oyo kingdom,” the statement said.

Alaafin’s demise, great loss to Nigeria – Sanwo-Olu

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has described the demise of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III (Alaafin of Oyo) as a great loss to Nigeria.

In a condolence message on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the governor said his death was great loss to the people and traditional institution of Oyo State.

“He contributed immensely to the growth and development of Oyo Kingdom and improved the livelihood of the people of the town.

”As a first-class monarch, he left a lasting legacy that the people of the ancient town will continue to cherish,” the governor said.

Late Alaafin, bridge builder, courageous leader- Fayemi

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti has described the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has a bridge builder, patriot and courageous leader who contributed to Nigeria’s unity during his lifetime.

Fayemi made the assertions in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the departure of the revered traditional ruler had created a big vacuum in the traditional institution in Oyo State, in particular and Yorubaland in general.

According to him, the late Oba Adeyemi was an authority in history and blessed with a sharp memory which added value and class to his royal duties and day-to-day interaction with people from different walks of life.

Fayemi, also the Chairman, Nigeria Governor’s Forum, described the deceased as a distinguished first class Oba, who brought dignity, respect and glamour to the traditional institution and made it relevant in the quest for a better society.

He said the late royal father operated an open door policy and always made his wise counsel available to political leaders, irrespective of their party affiliations.

Fayemi while describing the late traditional ruler as a man of many parts, said he never disappointed in the performance of his royal duties and other roles he was privileged to have played, which spanned sectors like administration, politics, education, religious, sports, among others.

He said that Oba Adeyemi earned much respect and accolade for his ability to speak the truth to those in power, without playing to the gallery.

The governor further credited the departed Oba with defending the culture and traditions of the Yoruba race, which he did with panache and passion throughout his reign.

Commiserating with the family, friends and associates of the late oba, Fayemi urged them to be consoled by the good legacies Adeyemi III left behind and the positive impact he made in his lifetime.

“We pray that the Lord will grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

  • 2023: It is time to enthrone a new Nigeria – Gov. Fayemi

2023: It is time to enthrone a new Nigeria – Gov. Fayemi

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, on Saturday, says now is the time to rekindle the candle of a new Nigeria as the 2023 general elections draw near.

Fayemi said this at a birthday symposium in honour of Mr Hamzat Lawal, Chief Executive Officer, Connected Development, in Abuja.

According to him, the coming transition provides another opportunity for Nigerians to take a new day at making a new Nigeria of their dream.

He said that Nigerian citizens need to build a consensus around major issues of concern and develop a national template for some irreducible behaviour in leadership positions.

He said this is because nation-building is an unfinished business before every generation and it is always a pressing business of the day that must be done urgently.

“These challenges that affect our country today, provide us with the opportunity to take a position and take a stand and walk for the resolution of such challenges.

“Nigeria will belong to those who are prepared to stand up, stand firm and take control of their destinies as the late Senator Robert Kennedy once said, `it is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped.

“We can all to do a bit in our little ways to cause a beautiful change that will lead us to make our country and indeed the world a better place.

“I am personally uncomfortable with the practice of our politics and our political conversation; we should have outgrown bigotry, tribalism and ethnoreligious biases.

“It is time to rekindle the candle of a new Nigeria and the coming transition provides another opportunity for us to take a new day at making a new Nigeria of our dream.’’

Fayemi called on citizens to love the country and imagine it as a major world power in no distant time.

According to him, leaders are made from the crucible of experience of passion and courage and the readiness to sacrifice because nothing ventured is nothing gained.

“If we trace Hamzat’s history very well from who he was and the focused dedicated and inspirational Youngman he has become, we will see he has taken strongly from these lessons.

“He is the founder of Follow the Money, a civic tech advocacy platform, that has helped in tracking government expenditure and service delivery.’’

Fayemi said that Hamzat is a major voice in the sustainable development goals action movement for young people and emerging leaders.

He said that some lessons to take away from Hamzat’s story include that for one to succeed, one needs to imbibe certain virtues in life and that is one of the most important things youths often take for granted.

Fayemi, therefore, urged youths to value knowledge because without it they would not develop the right intellect, experience and skill set to help them prepare for a functional future.

He said that the pursuit of knowledge would liberate them from fears, biases and limitations.

“This is the kind of education that has helped Hamzat. We also need to develop skills that prepare us for selfless leadership through volunteerism, community engagement and mobilisation for collective causes.‘’

Fayemi urged youths to value competence, courage, generosity of spirit, a sense of giving than receiving, being solution providers than complainants, perseverance and delayed gratification to succeed.

Also speaking at the event, the Founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC, Atedo Peterside, eulogised Hamzat as a person of integrity who had achieved a lot and worked hard to build a great reputation.

Peterside said he shared similarities with Hamzat, when he founded the bank 33 years ago as a youth, adding that older experts were sceptical to join the bank so those who joined him then in 1989 were younger than him and were ready to take a risk that the older and more experienced personnel were not willing to take.

“However, after five years of success stories of the bank, the older people started applying and we employed them and last February the bank was 33 years.

“Youths should know their weaknesses and strengths, work on their weaknesses by engaging those that can cover that area of weakness and also to build on the strength.’’

Peterside urged youths not to abandon good principles in their pursuit of achievement but to imbibe the virtues of integrity, shared vision, teamwork, and meritocracy, adding that “they should also be bold to be truthful to earn the trust of the people, especially those they work with.’’

He urged Nigerian youths to shun sentiments and cooperate with each other across the board to achieve success in their endeavours.

The celebrant, Hamzat Lawal, CEO CODE and Founder of Follow the Money, has been working in the civic space, saying that he impacted lives and built people’s capacity the same way he was influenced by Ewa Ileri.

Hamzat, therefore, launched a mentorship initiative called the Ewa Illeri Leadership School, adding that every year, he would select 20 Young people to go to Ebonyi for learning.

He said that as he clocked 35, he would use the new face of his life to contribute his quota to change Nigeria through politics, adding that Nigeria is where it is today because youth allowed it for far too long.

He added that Nigerians have been agonising and complaining on Twitter, Facebook and so on but there is now a renewed opportunity and hope for young people to take their place in Nigeria’s political history.

He said that a political movement called the Green Nigerian Movement has been launched to mobilise youths, persons with disabilities in the 774 local government areas to build alliances to change the political narrative.

“Today we must agree that we will play politics with empathy. We’ll play politics with ideology. We’ll play politics with value

“I think that ‘the saying that politics is dirty’ should be an old order. If we choose to remain on the sidelines, then we should not complain. I, Hamza Lawal, from today would play partisan politics.

“With the Green Nigerian Movement, we have committed that we will mobilise 40 million people, we cannot make a change if we don’t change the dynamics of how things are done.’’

Hamzat, therefore, called on Nigerians to stop agonising, to join him to consolidate, mobilise and educate people at the grassroots to understand the powers that they hold in order to decide the next president of Nigeria.

Governors decry NNPC zero contribution to federation account

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has decried the zero contribution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. to the Federation Account in recent months.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, Chairman, NGF and Ekiti State Governor, made this known at the Governors’ Forum on Natural Energy, Oil and Gas at the fifth Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) on Thursday in Abuja.

Fayemi said: “The NNPC contributed zero to the federation account last month. This is not the first time.

“Of course, we know why; though the price of crude oil is going to about 110 dollars per barrel at the international market.

“The more it goes up, it seems like the more we suffer.”

He noted that it was ironic that the NNPc was declaring profit and unable to meet its obligations to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Fayemi said the governors were concerned about how to grow the industry, stressing that transparency, accountability and governance were critical in achieving this objective.

He noted that the Petroleum Industry Act was responding to some of the challenges facing the sector though the governors had raised concerns regarding some of the provisions of the Act.

The NGF chairman also faulted the oil and gas sector being on the Exclusive Legislative List of the Federal Government.

Fayemi explained that when he was the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, he reviewed the Act regulating the sector to allow more states and local governments participation.

He added that Nigeria should begin to harness its abundant gas resources as the world push for transition to cleaner sources of energy.

Also, Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, said the country needs to end the petrol subsidy regime now because it was not sustainable.

Akeredolu, represented by the State Commissioner for Energy and Mines, Mr Rasaq Obe, also called for increased crude oil production to about two million barrels per day to improve the revenue from the sector.

  • Why I am very critical of Nigerian elites – Buhari

Why I am very critical of Nigerian elites – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is very critical of Nigerian elites essentially because some have not always demonstrated that they can rise above personal gain, political partisanship as well as ethnic and religious differences.

President Buhari stated this at a dinner in honour of the 2022 Committee of Business, Political, Media and Civil Society Leaders at the State House, Abuja, on Monday.

Speaking at the dinner, Buhari pledged his commitment to hand over a strong repositioned agriculture-led, diversified home-grown economy, stable democracy and revamped armed and security forces to the next administration.

The president said he was looking forward to completing his tenure in 2023, leaving a legacy for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria with 24 years of uninterrupted democracy.

He further assured Nigerians that his administration would finish strong in the last lap of his tenure.

He said: ”I am gradually entering my final year in office. It is a period I intend to spend not only on consolidating on the achievements of the past seven years but also to leave a legacy for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.

”I take this initiative to mean that you all intend to collaborate with this administration in that direction.

”For those among you who are politicians, you must look beyond gaining power to how you can leverage public positions in the process of societal change.

”To the businessmen and women among you, there is great glory in public service.

”The question that should be uppermost always is: How do we leverage our business endowment for the greater good of our country?

”I am delighted that members of the Nigerian elite have woken up to the fact that the task of changing this society is a task for all of us, whether we are in the private or public sector. Knowing that, we have enormous challenges as a nation, but they are not beyond our capacity to overcome if we embrace a new approach.

”We cannot retreat to our ethnic cocoons, nor can we continue to seek solace in our past. We must champion the idea of a Nigeria where every citizen would be proud to call their own. That is the charge before you.”

He expressed delight on the new consciousness by the Nigerian elites to work together with the political class and civil society to build a better Nigeria.

Buhari noted that building consensus around issues of the economy, national security, governance, and ”such other critical areas of national life is a sure path to the future we seek to build.

”As we all know, I have been very critical of the Nigerian elites, essentially because some of us have not always demonstrated that we can rise above personal gain, political partisanship as well as ethnic and religious differences when the situation demands that we all speak and or act as one in the interest of our country.

”There are also many among our elites for whom profit remains the only motivation for any and every enterprise.

”But now, I feel heartened that a more collaborative social enterprise model for resolving our common challenges is being forged.

”I must commend this initiative and its conveners. This is the kind of spirit I have always advocated because it is what we need at this time as we seek to build our society for peace, security and prosperity through dialogue while narrowing the gap between rich and poor.”

On the activities of the Committee, the president acknowledged that he was aware that attendance at their inaugural meeting on Sunday cut across a broad section of the society in the public, private sectors, civil society, and the youth.

He lauded the group for rising above all ethnic and religious divides for the common good, describing the feat as ‘‘fantastic’’.

The president, who said he had wished the group had convened earlier, advised them to try and accommodate a few more interests in their next meeting as they take a ”deeper dive into our national challenges and proffer workable and sustainable solutions for the near, medium, and long term.

’’It is our desire to finish strong in the next 16 months and ensure all hands are on deck for the last lap. We are doubling our efforts against all forms of insecurity, equipping our armed forces and strengthening the police.

”We are determined to continue the war against corruption and fight poverty, we remain focused on building an all-inclusive economic opportunity for all citizens. ”

The president told the meeting that despite the enormous problems inherited when he assumed office almost seven years ago, he could look back with satisfaction that this administration has kept faith with the people.

According to him, the administration has done well even amid dwindling resources for reasons that are well beyond our control.

”But we probably would have fared even better if we secured the support of most of you that are here today, know that while government comes and goes, the country must remain and thrive,” he added.

Buhari used the occasion to wish politicians, at the dinner, interested in elective positions in the 2023 polls the best, advising that ”there is nothing better than experience in leadership.”

Responding to concerns raised by Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on the resurgence of military takeovers in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso in Aug. 2020, Sept. 2021 and Jan. 2022, respectively, the president said he strongly believed that ‘‘Nigeria has passed through that stage for good.’’

On the political situation in some West African countries, Fayemi said:

”We believe Nigeria has a manifest destiny to protect democracy not just in Nigeria but also in our region.

”But in doing that we must ensure that our politicians adhere strictly to constitutional principles and I am happy that our President’s position on leaders seeking third term is well known.”

While giving further insight on the workings of the Committee, Fayemi said Nigerians who had benefitted from the country in good time, serving in different capacities, have a duty to support the country.

“What the Committee has tried to do is to develop an elite consensus on security and economy, ” he said.

The governor said the Committee would take advantage of the president’s consistent leadership, relentless passion and patriotism to ensure a seamless transition, while ensuring that the achievements of this administration are sustained and followed through for the benefit of the country.

“Here we have PDP and APC chieftains and we hope by the time we finish this work, what we will present to the president is void of partisan colorations.

”It is from people who want Nigerians to succeed,” he said.

The Convener of the Group and Chairman of THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, Nduka Obaigbena said with Nigeria facing a ”historic transition like no other”, and with crisis across Africa and at home, the 2022 Committee emerged to defend the national interest.

”The 2022 Committee was put together to defend Nigeria in a time of crisis and in a time of transition, we must defend the national interest,’’ he said

He noted that membership of the group had been carefully selected from the business community, investors, governors, security sector and elder statesmen.

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti has described the death of Mrs Angela Folarin, wife of Sen. Teslim Folarin, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, as very painful and unfortunate.

Mrs Angela Nwaka Folarin died in the United Kingdom on Friday, aged 48.

Fayemi, in a statement issued on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, urged Sen. Folarin and the family to be consoled with the fact that the Almighty God is the one that gives and takes.

The governor said losing a supportive wife could be both painful and devastating. He, however, prayed that God would give the lawmaker the fortitude to bear the loss.

Fayemi, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), said the late Mrs Folarin was not onlya pillar of support to her husband, but also committed personal resources to provide succour to the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.

“The news of Mrs Folarin’s death was shocking, sad and devastating. She was a virtuous woman and dutiful wife, who showed support for her husband and family, and equally provided succour for the vulnerable.

“Losing such a wonderful woman who is a pillar of support can be very devastating. My heart is with my dear brother, Senator Folarin and the family at this very trying time.

“It is my prayer that the good Lord will grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“On behalf of my wife, the government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with the family of the deceased and the government and people of Oyo State on this loss”, Fayemi added.

Mr Biodun Oyebanji, acclaimed political godson of Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has been declared winner of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State.

Two of the seven aspirants who protested against the process earlier in the day, Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Dayo Adeyeye are also alleged to be associates of APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
