    Kebbi govt appoints new Emir of Zuru

    Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi, has approved the appointment of Sanusi Mika’ilu-Sami as the new Emir of Zuru.

    Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

    Idris quoted the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsin-Mari as making the appointment public while presenting the letter to the new emir on Thursday in Zuru.

    The commissioner said the appointment was based on recommendation of the election committee.

    According to him, out of the three candidates that applied for the position and screened by the Zuru Emirate Emir-ship Election Committee, Alhaji Sanusi Mika’ilu-Sami got the highest votes to clinch the throne.

    He said the appointment of the new emir was due to the demise of late Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sami Gomo II, who passed away on Aug. 16, 2025 at a London hospital.

    Dutsin-Mari thanked Idris for approving the appointment of the new emir and urged the new royal father to justify the confidence reposed in him.

    He advised the new traditional ruler to discharge his responsibilities diligently with the fear of God Almighty.

    Senator Galaudu resigns from Kebbi PDP

    A former Senator Representing Kebbi North Senatorial District, Sen. Isah Galaudu, has resigned from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    Galaudu, in his resignation letter dated Aug. 20 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Augie North, Augie Local Government, said that PDP was being controlled by All Progressives Congress (APC) politicians.

    “I write to inform you of my resignation as a member of the PDP with immediate effect.

    “It is obvious the party is controlled by the national ruling party politicians and as a consequence, substantially obliterated,” he said.

    Galaudu, who was senator between 2011 and 2015, commended the party for the support and kindness it had offered him.

    The former senator is also a former Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate between 2015 and 2017.

    He was equally the PDP governorship candidate in Kebbi State in the 2019 general elections.

    Galaudu also served as governing board member of Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital from 2009 to 2011.

    Police rescue 2 kidnapped victims in Kebbi

    The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Kebbi Command, says it has rescued two kidnapped victims unhurt in Ribah district of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area o f the state.

    The Spokesperson of the command, CSP, Nafi’u Abubakar, made this known in statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

    He said that the rescue was part of the command’s ongoing onslaught against banditry and other heinous crimes in the state.

    “On Aug. 15 at about 3: 05 pm, while on aggressive patrol around Dankade village of Ribah district, Danko/Wasagu LGA, a combined team of policemen, vigilantes and hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ribah, had an encounter with the bandits.

    “During a gun duel which lasted for hours, one Tukur Bello, ’26’ of Kembawa village, Augie LGA of Kebbi and Isyaka Abubakar, ’25’ of Budun village, Gummi LGA of Zamfara State, who were kidnapped on the Aug. 9 at about 2:p.m while grazing with their cows at Gairi forest in Zamfara state, were successfully rescued unhurt,” he said.

    According him, the victims have been rushed to a medical facility for check- up before being reunited with their family.

    Abubakar quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Sani who applauded the determination, resilience and professionalism of the DPO of Ribah and his team.

    “He urged them to maintain the ongoing onslaught against banditry and other heinous crimes for socio-economic development of the area.

    “The CP also encouraged other DPOs to emulate the DPO Ribah by embarking on aggressive patrols and visibility policing along the highways and nearby bushes in their area of responsibility with a view to ensuring the safety and security of the good people in the state,” he said.

    The PRO equally reiterated the command’s commitment in safeguarding the lives and property of the peace loving people of the state.

    Kebbi ADC suspends State Working Committee leaders

    The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi,  says it has suspended some members of its State Working Committee (SWC) leadership.

    Jamilu Muhammad, the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

    He said: “Following a wide range of consultations with critical stakeholders of ADC in Kebbi, the genuine working committee which came through elections via congresses, which equally tailored the party to its present status before the coming of impostors, have unanimously agreed to suspend some members in the leadership of the SWC.

    “The suspended SWC leadership are the Chairman, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala, Junaidu Muhammed Mudi, (Deputy Chairman) and Hawwa’u Muhammed, Secretary.

    “The suspended members are hereby replaced with the following; Abdulrazaq Abubakar Isah Iko, who will serve as the Interim Chairman of ADC in Kebbi, while Adamu Aliyu is the new Secretary of the party,” he said.

    The publicity secretary said the aforementioned leaders allegedly lacked the moral consciousness, transparency and trust to preside over the affairs of the party.

    “The affected members have deviated from the principles and objectives as well as applied wisdom and technical approach to unite and position the party to its glory.

    “We are left with no option other than to suspend Engr. Sufiyanu Bala and his members for the under listed reasons.

    “They took unilateral decisions; they, on several occasions, carried out all official activities and take critical decisions without consultations or input from other members of the executive committee.

    “Others are poor leadership and administrative inefficiency run by them, which has put the party in crisis and backwardness.

    “The chairman (allegedly) engaged in questionable use of funds without the knowledge of other executive members and cannot account for all the funds he has expended in the name of the party,” Muhammad said.

    According to him, the party also rejects selfish and illegitimate hijack of the party by those he described as Abuja nomadic politicians, who seek to dominate the genuine members of the party in Kebbi without recourse to due process and respect for long term sacrifices of the founding members.

    “The party also condemned and rejected the early campaign in the name of ADC as it contradicts and go against the provisions of the law, particularly the Electoral Act.

    “We, therefore, call on INEC and relevant security agencies to take necessary action against the violators.

    “On this note, the party advise members of the public to desist from dealing with the suspended exco members until further notice,” the publicity secretary stated.

    Muhammad said the party resolved that all other members of ADC in the state were still valid and active and advised them to work with the new interim leadership to move the party to greater heights.

    Banditry: Police rescue 3 kidnapped victims in Kebbi

    The Kebbi State Police Command says it has rescued three abducted victims of banditry in Shanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

    The Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, made this known in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

    He said that on July 27, at about 2 am, a gang of kidnappers armed with sophisticated weapons invaded Sangara village in Shanga LGA, and kidnapped one Muhammad Namata, 25, Gide Namata, 20, and Hamidu Alhaji Namani, 35, all of the same address, to an unknown destination.

    “Upon receiving the report, the Divisional police Officer, Shanga, mobilised a combined team of security personnel comprising the Police, Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilantes and hunters for a search and rescue mission.

    “While the operation was ongoing, they trailed the kidnappers to Shanga hills and engaged them in a fierce gun duel.

    “Due to the high firepower of the combined security personnel, the suspected kidnappers abandoned their victims and took to their heels into the forest with fatal wounds.

    “The victims have been successfully rescued on July 31 at about 3:30 pm, and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility before being reunited with their families,” he said.

    Abubakar quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Sani, as commending the bravery, commitment and professionalism displayed by the combined team of security personnel in rescuing the victims promptly.

    “He also charged them to sustain the synergy amongst them, as no security outfit can do it alone. Sani equally reiterated the command’s readiness in safeguarding the lives and property of the good people of Kebbi.

    “The CP called on the residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for prompt response,” the PPRO said.

    Only my State offer 100% free education nationwide – Gov Idris boasts

    Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has said that only his State in Nigeria offers 100% free education and scholarships to students studying within and outside the country.

    Idris disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Students’ Matters, Mr Sunday Dare, in Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

    The SSA was accompanied by the National President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr Olusola Oladejo.

    The students were in Kebbi to inaugurate the newly elected executives of  the Kebbi National Students’ Association.

    The Governor told the visitors that he had paid about N2.7 billion to settle the tuition fees of both students studying within Nigeria and those studying in foreign countries.

    He said, “It might interest you to note that it is only Kebbi that offers total free education in Nigeria.

    “We pay tuitions fees of all our students up to secondary and tertiary institutions. Recently, I paid N2.7 billion tuition fees for both students studying across tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria.”

    According to Idris, his administration offer total scholarships to the students, adding, “we are doing this to remove the stress  and burden from the parents.

    “Some parents may have more than three children in tertiary institutions. If the money is too much, some parents might not be able to shoulder the school fees especially in this period where many tertiary institutions have increased their tuition fees.

    “That is why we deem it fit to shoulder the responsibility of free education, scholarships to all our students.”

    Idris added that the feeding money for students across boarding schools in the state had been increased from N150m to N300 million monthly.

    In line with his administration’s efforts to raise the standard of teaching and learning, the governor said the embargo on employment had been lifted, where about 5,000 qualified teachers were gainfully employed.

    “To enhance the learning environment, my administration has rehabilitated 2,004 primary and secondary schools, while over 340 new ones were constructed,” he revealed.

    Speaking on infrastructure, the governor lauded President Bola Tinubu for supporting the state to record tremendous achievements in roads construction.

    He cited the construction of 1,008-kilometer Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway as one of the legacy projects of  Tinubu, expressing happiness that Kebbi would be the major benefiting state with about 280 kilometres to be constructed.

    While thanking the prresident for revoking the 87-kilometre Koko-Zuru road contract, the governor observed that the revocation had paved the way for Kebbi to execute the project for quick delivery and it is expected to be repaid later.

    Idris also commended Tinubu for his foresight to introduce students’ loans scheme which was not done before in the history of Nigeria, adding that his administration was replicating the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the state.

    Earlier, the SSA to the president on students’ matters, commended the state government for implementing free education and full scholarships for students in the state.

    On his part, the NANS national president applauded the state governor for the construction of four mega schools, which spread across the four Emirates of the state.

    Gov Idris approves 6 months maternity leave for Kebbi workers

    Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the immediate implementation of a six-month maternity leave for pregnant women in the Kebbi State Civil Service.

    Idris announced the approval on Tuesday during the launch of the Kebbi State Food and Nutrition Policy and the Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action on Nutrition (MSPAN) in Birnin Kebbi.

    “The state government has approved the immediate implementation of a six-month maternity leave for pregnant women in the Kebbi state civil service.

    “The government will forward a bill to the Kebbi State House of Assembly to enact a law backing this initiative,” he said.

    On tackling malnutrition, the governor disclosed that he had approved UNICEF request for funding.

    According to him, the state government will provide N500 million and local government councils will contribute N261 million for nutrition project.

    “These funds are to be paid into the UNICEF-managed Account to support nutrition programs for malnourished children.

    “I am directing the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to ensure the release of the N261 million already captured in the budget by this Friday.

    “Similarly, the Commissioner for Finance should release the N500 million to UNICEF for the same purpose,” he said.

    Idris reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving child nutrition, ensuring food security, and promoting access to nutritious food to enhance the quality of life for citizens.

    Earlier, Mr Michael Jumah, Head of UNICEF Sokoto Field Office, represented by Isah Ibrahim, said the funds would be used to procure essential nutrition commodities.

    “These commodities include, multiple micronutrient supplements,

    Small- quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements and

    Ready-to-use therapeutic food.

    “ These items will help prevent and treat malnutrition across the state as together, we can eradicate malnutrition in Kebbi,” he said.

    On his part, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abba Sani- Kalgo, commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to food security and nutrition in the state.

    Lakurawa bandits kill 3 police officers in Kebbi

    The police command in Kebbi says three of its officers have been killed by bandits in Bunza Local Government of the state.

    The Spokesperson of the command, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said in a statement on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, that the officers lost their lives during a fierce gun duel with bandits.

    Abubakar said that on July 11, about 7 p.m., the police command received information that, suspected Lakurawa bandits were sighted in the forest along Zogirma/Tilli road in Bunza LG.

    “On receipt of the report, the Zogirma Divisional Police Officer, promptly mobilised a team of policemen to the scene with reinforcement from No 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Birnin Kebbi.

    “Upon arrival, the combined team of policemen engaged the suspected Lakurawa bandits in a fierce gun duel.

    “As a result, several suspected Lakurawa bandits were neutralised while others escaped to nearby forest with fatal injuries. Regrettably, three brave police officers lost their lives during the encounter,” he said.

    The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Sani as commending the resilience, bravery and sacrifice of the fallen officers. He prayed for their gentle souls to have eternal rest.

    The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of the state.

    Sani urged the residents of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for prompt response.

    APC reinstates Kebbi Gov’s aide suspended for bringing snake to govt house

    The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kebbi chapter has announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Kabir Sani-Giant, Special Adviser to Gov. Nasir Idris on Power and Politics.

    Recall that Sani-Giant was suspended on Feb. 28, 2025, for bringing a snake to Government House to intimidate dignitaries, officials and statesmen on the 8th of the same month.

    A statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi by Alhaji Muhammad Kana-Zuru, the state Chairman of the party, said the reinstatement was with immediate effect.

    According to him, the State Working Committee (SWC) of APC, during it’s meeting held on Tuesday, studied and considered an apology letter by Sani-Giant and decided to withdraw the suspension.

    “The committee resolved to reinstate your membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). You are, therefore, by this letter, directed to continue with your normal responsibilities given to you, your rights and privileges thereto are hereby restored,” Kana-Zuru said.

    “We have redirected the funds”: CAN clears air on N30m rejected by Pastor Enenche from Kebbi govt

    Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has cleared the air on the N30 million donation from the Kebbi State Government publicly rejected by Pastor Paul Enenche, founder and senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Pastor Enenche was in Kebbi for a healing and deliverance crusade, jointly organized by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Kebbi State CAN in Birnin Kebbi.

    In a statement by Venerable Ayyuba Kanta, Kebbi CAN Chairman, the N30 million donation from the state government was not a personal gift to Pastor Enenche but a support for the two-day statewide Christian crusade.

    “We wish to make it clear to the general public and the state government that the N30 million gift was in support of the Kebbi State Healing and Deliverance Crusade held in Birnin Kebbi.

    “The event was jointly organized by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Kebbi State Chapter of CAN,” the statement read.

    According to CAN, Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche, who ministered during the crusade, has a personal policy of not accepting gifts during his evangelical or philanthropic engagements.

    As a result, he advised that the funds be used at the discretion of the state CAN leadership for developmental projects.

    The association disclosed that the funds have since been redirected towards the construction of a perimeter fence at the Christian cemetery recently approved by Governor Nasir Idris.

    CAN also expressed deep appreciation to Governor Idris for releasing the state stadium for the crusade, the banquet hall of the Presidential Lodge for the ministers’ meeting, and facilitating the distribution of palliatives to students and women during the event.

    Reaffirming the cordial relationship between the Christian community and the Kebbi State Government, Kanta described Governor Idris as “a jolly friend of all Christians and CAN leadership in the state.”
