    PDP presidential candidate, Atiku defeats Tinubu in Kebbi

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has emerged winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Kebbi with 285,175 votes.

    The State Collation Officer, Prof. Usman Saidu, while presenting the result in Birnin Kebbi said the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu, polled 248,088 votes.

    Saidu said the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, also scored 10,682 votes while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), scored 5,038 votes.

    He gave the state total registered voters as 1,983,985, number of accredited voters as 599,201;  total votes cast- 591,475; total valid votes-559,522 while 31,953 votes were rejected.

    Speaking with newsmen shortly after the declaration the result, the Director-General, PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Kebbi State and party agent, Alhaji Bala Dole expressed appreciation for it.

    He claimed that if not for some ”little hitches” his party would have gotten more votes.

    Also, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Agent, Alhaji Ja’afar Ahmed, said there were issues with the result, insisting that the exercise was characterised by violence, late arrival of election materials, malfunctioning of BIVAS as well as inducement in different forms.

    Responding, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Alhaji Ahmed Bello-Mahmud expressed appreciation that the elections were conducted peacefully, fairly, credibly and conclusively collated devoid of any rancour.

    He appealed to the electorate to maintain the tempo in the forthcoming elections for the good of all.

    Drama as INEC declares collation officer ‘persona non grata’ in Kebbi

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State, on Monday, declared collation officer for Marafa ward in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Mr Yusuf Isa-Yahaya as ‘persona non-grata’.

    The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Bello-Mahmud said on Monday in Birnin Kebbi that the commission would, however, not be deterred by this development.

    He said the commission had no option than to declare him missing following series of meetings on the issue in accordance with the law, adding that a new competent collation officer had been appointed to carry on with the job.

    Bello-Mahmud assured that the newly appointed officer would continue from where the missing officer stopped and possibly make announcement today.

    According to reports, tension was high at INEC office in Birnin Kebbi in view of the strong contest between the two political giants in the state.

    The incumbent governor of the state, Sen. Atiku Bagudu and ex-governor, Sen. Adamu Aliero, which led to security beef up at the commission office.

    Bagudu is contesting the Kebbi Central Senatorial District seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Alieru is contesting on the platform of the People’s Democratic party (PDP).

    Results from eight Local Government Areas of Kebbi Central Senatorial District had arrived but the absence of Marafa ward results delayed the announcement of the winner.

    Also speaking, Aliero advised his supporters to remain calm, adding that the decision of the commission was in line with the laws of the land.

    He lamented that his people had spent two days awaiting the announcement of the result but to no avail.

    He appealed to the commission to hasten efforts to do the needful within the confine of the law to announce the result.

    “Therefore, I urge all our supporters to be law abiding, mature and ensure that they maintain the relative peace being enjoyed for the good and progress of the state and the nation at large,” he said.

    Embrace sports for national cohesion – Bagudu encourages youths

    Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has urged Nigerian youths to use sporting activities to promote national cohesion.

    Bagudu states this while receiving the “Torch of Peace and Unity” in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, preparatory to the forthcoming National Sports Festival.

    Newsmen reports that the festival is slated to hold in Asaba, Delta State between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10.

    Newsmen also reports that the torch that signifies beginning of National Sports Festival, will go to all the 36 States of the Federation and Federal Capital Terotery (FCT), Abuja.

    It was first ignited by President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Villa, on Oct. 25.

    The governor lauded officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports for bringing the torch to Birnin Kebbi.
    Bagudu commended Buhari for approving the commencement of the festival shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic.

    He said that Kebbi State had fully mobilised to successfully participate in the festival and excel more than it did in 2021.

    While describing sports as more than fun, Bagudu said: “It is competitive and youth should make sports as an important element.

    He urged the youths to work hard and remain dedicated to excell in life, saying: “You can only do better when you are determined to excel, there is no substitute to hard work.

    “Youth should be inspired by the successes of their peers from across the globe. You can only do better in anything if you are determined’, he said.

    Bagudu further said that sports brings honour and fame to nations more than any other vocation or profession and prayed that the sports festival would serve as a motivation and catalyst for national unity.

    He recalled that former Super Eagles players; Daniel Amokachi, Tijjani Babangida and a couple of others who visited Kebbi State to inspire and empower young men and women in order to excell in sports.

    The governor also expressed delight over the feat achieved by an indigene of Kebbi State in professional football, in person of Zaidu Sanusi-Jega who plays for FC Porto of Portugal, describing him as a pride not only to the state but to Nigeria.

    The Zonal Sports Coordinator for North-West and the team leader from the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Muhammad Kabir-Datti while presenting the Torch of Unity and Peace to the governor, said that the torch symbolised peace and unity and commencement of of the festival.

    According to him, it is the tradition of the sports ministry that the torch should go round all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory preparatory to the actual commencement of the sports festival.

    PDP reschedules Atiku’s campaign visit to Kebbi

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rescheduled the campaign visit of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate to Kebbi State from Nov. 12 to Jan. 28.

    Alhaji Sani Dododo, the chairman of the state publicity sub-committee for the event, said this in a statement in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

    Dododo said that the shifting was based on certain strategic adjustments by the Presidential Campaign Council.

    “The presidential campaign which was scheduled to hold on Saturday, Nov. 12, will now hold on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023.

    “All constituted committees will continue their duties for smooth hosting of the campaign.

    “I want to use this medium to express regret over the postponement; however, I want to plead with all supporters to continue with the arrangement for the rally.

    “In a similar vein, the committee warns in strong terms that members should desist from spreading rumours as well as statements capable of causing disunity amongst the party members,” he said.

    Insecurity: Bagudu advises IDPs to remain in camp

    Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has urged Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mahuta and Isgogo of Fakai and Zuru Local Government Areas to remain in the camps until the security situation has improved.

    Bagudu made the call while on a sympathy visit to the IDPs camps in Government Day Secondary School, Mahuta and Model Primary School, Isgogo, in Zuru Emirate on Friday.

    He sympathised with the victims of the banditry attack and condoled the families that lost their loved ones during the incident.

    “I am here to see you with important personalities and local government officials to sympathise with you.

    ” Take heart and bear with the situation as it is destined by the Almighty God,” he said.

    Bagudu said he had already directed for relief assistance and more security measures to be taken in all the affected areas.

    “You will be assisted by the government, you remain here until it is safe for you to go back. We are taking more measures to safeguard your lives and properties,” Bagudu said.

    He prayed to God to protect them and give them the fortitude to overcome their predicaments.

    The governor, however, warned of the dangers of spreading rumours and false information amongst people, which he said could further instill fear in the minds of people.

    Bagudu also visited the Palace of Chiefdom of Mahuta, Alhaji Muhammad Hudu, where he also commiserated with the community leader and held a meeting with LG Chairmen , Councilors and other stakeholders of the area to discuss on the prevailing situation and the need for synergy and cooperation.

    The governor was accompanied by Sen. Bala Ibn-Na’Allah, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Sen. Muhammadu Magoro and the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba-Bena.

    Buhari rejoices with Emir of Zuru, Sani Sami at 79

    President Muhammadu Buhari has joined Zuru Emirate Council, the government and the people of Kebbi in celebrating with the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sani Sami on his 79th birthday, Oct. 24, 2022.

    In a congratulatory message by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, on Sunday in Abuja, Buhari rejoiced with the former military officer, and former Governor of Bauchi State.

    The president saluted the traditional ruler who distinguished himself in service, fighting for the unity of the nation, and relentlessly sustaining his voice for good governance and democracy.

    He affirmed that the retired major-general, who answered the call of his community to sit on the throne of his fathers, deserved commendation for his steadfastness, dedication and selflessness.

    He particularly lauded the emir for pushing for the interest and wellbeing of others.

    According to the president, Sami’s entrepreneurial gifts will continue to stand him out for recognitions, and his magnanimity in raising champions in key sectors of the economy will always be a reference for generations.

    Buhari prayed for the wellbeing of the Emir of Zuru and his family.

    72hrs after his release, bandits kill Abuja -Kaduna train attack freed passenger

     

    72 hours after his release, bandits have killed one of the recently freed Abuja-Kaduna train passengers along Funtua-Gusau road enroute his home town in Kebbi State on Saturday.

    The victim whose name has not been made public spent over six months in terrorist captivity following attack on Abuja-Kaduna bound train on March 28, 2022.

    The victim was killed while on his way to his home town in Kebbi State alongside his relatives who were reunited with him by authorities in Kaduna State after being rescued last week.

    He was killed three days after being released by the Ansarul Faction of the Boko Haram Terrorist Group after spending over 190 days in captivity.

    It was gathered that one of the relatives driving the vehicle was also abducted by the terrorists to an unknown destination as at the time of this report.

    The last batch of the kidnap victims whom the deceased was among regained their freedom last week on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 after six months in captivity

    It was also gathered that the victim was earlier shot on his head by gunmen who laid ambush on the ever busy Funtua – Gusau road and died a few hours after he was rushed to Tsafe General Hospital, along same highway.

    He has since been buried in his hometown according to Islamic rites.

    PDP Caretaker Committee Secretary, others defect to APC

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, on Monday, received prominent politicians who defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its fold.

    The defected persons included former Auditor-General of the party, Alhaji Rabiu Sa’idu, former Secretary, Caretaker Committee of the party, Alhaji Sirajo Ibrahim, and 15 other PDP executive members from Bubuce ward in Augie Local Government Area.

    Others included Umaru Wakkala, Vice Chairman, Bubuche Ward; Salihu Shayi, Youth Leader; Alhaji Idi Bubuche, Treasurer and Hamza Kilu, Auditor.

    Speaking shortly after making their declaration to join the ruling party, the former Auditor-General of the party, Saidu attributed his defection to the “sterling leadership qualities of Gov. Atiku Bagudu”.

    He also said that he denounced his membership of PDP due to alleged injustice and infringement on their rights in the party.

    Saidu appreciated Magajin Rafin Kabi, Alhaji Bello Dantani for being instrumental in his defection to APC alongside his followers.

    Sirajo Ibrahim Augie, a one-time PDP Caretaker Secretary said: “I am impressed with the roads infrastructure development in Augie Local Government Area under the leadership of Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

    “This road constructed by the present administration under Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is one of the most important.”

    In attendance were Augie Local Government APC Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Isah-Mera; Lawal Muhammad-Yola, Chairman Augie Local Government Area; Alhaji Haruna Maitandu, Chairman Pilgrims Welfare Agency, and the former Chairman, Direct Labour Agency, Alhaji Bello Dantani.

    Malami restates commitment to quality education in Kebbi

    The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has restated his commitment to complementing the efforts of Federal and State Governments in providing higher quality education in Kebbi.
    Malami made this known during a prize-giving day of Rayhaan Model Academy Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
    He described the establishment of Rayhaan Model Academy as part of his contribution to complement the efforts of the governments in stabilising education in the state.
    “This informs the decision to have a trailblazer model academy, Rayhaan Model Academy Birnin Kebbi.
    He said the school was established out of the aspiration to complement government’s effort in the promotion of quality education for the country.
    Malami expressed optimism that the academy would produce high Calibre of intellectuals in  universities who would join the wider competitive global society.
    “I hope in the nearest future, the students from the academy will  contribute immensely in the fields of engineering, medicine, industries, administration and entrepreneurship, among others,” he said.
    Malami commended the parents and guardians for entrusting the care of their wards in the academy and promised to ensure that their dream had come to fruition.
    The minister also appreciated both teaching and non-teaching staff for their contributions to the development of the academy.
    Earlier, Dr Nasir Idris, the APC governorship candidate, lauded the tremendous contribution of Malami to educational development and service to humanity in the state.
    He said that the name of the minister would be written in gold as a politician per excellence and unique philanthropist.
    Idris said his political journey would not be complete without the minister.
    The Chairman, Board of Directors of the Academy, Malam Isiyaku Abdullahi, disclosed that the academy had graduated 102 students in the event out of 405 students currently in the school.
    “The school has become one of the best in the state within such a short period of operation and the choice of many children and parents in the state,” he said.
    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Bashar Illo, the Chief Launcher at the event, donated  N5 million;  Alhaji Garba Illo and his relatives  donated N5 million and Dr Nasiru Idris gave N10 million.
    Others are Khadimiyya For Justice and Development Initiative which donated  a mobile science laboratory with N1 million.
