Nigerians on Twitter demand suspension of Keyamo’s account over leaked chat

A myriad of Nigerians on Twitter have taken to the micro-blogging platform to call for the suspension of the account of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, over his tweets showing the screenshots of his chat with popular rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem.

TheNewsGuru recalls that Keyamo earlier accused Eedris Abdulkareem of dissing him in his new song, Jaga Jaga Reloaded, because he declined helping him with money back in 2018.

Keyamo, in a series of tweets, had supported his claims with screenshots of the chat between himself and the rapper.

He said, “In 2018, when I was named the Director of Strategic Communications for Buhari Campaign Organisation, Eedris waxed a song in support of Buhari and wanted to join us, albeit for a fee. He then made desperate efforts to see me through text messages from his phone no.

“I explained that my job was voluntary. It was the same thing I told so many other so-called activists-by-day-and-hustlers-at-night who secretly approached me. He then switched to the fact that he wanted a loan to pay for his hotel bills to the tune of N1.3m and to cater for his ‘sick mum’.

“That was already running into more than N3m. However, one govt functionary called me to say he told him another story that his child was sick.”

In the same vein, Keyamo also shared the receipts of the chat he had with Eedris Abdulkareem and posted his mobile number as well.

Though the post showing the screenshots of the chat and mobile number have since been removed by Twitter, but Nigerians are calling for the suspension of Keyamo’s account.

A Twitter user, @ose_anenih, said, “Reported his account and his tweets. You can’t be posting people’s private information online. That’s a platform violation at the very least.

@cremechic11, also added:“Personally, I am reporting Festus Keyamo’s Twitter account for doxxing Eedris.

@ose_anenih, said, “Reported his account and his tweets. You can’t be posting people’s private information online. That’s a platform violation at the very least.

“Anyone who knows Eedris should contact him. He might be able to get some coins if he pursues this in court sef.” (sic)

Also, @jimmy2time said, “This @fkeyamo who doesn’t know fvck all about privacy and personal data protection/confidentiality is a lawyer and a SAN.”

According to @gimbakakanda, Keyamo should have only stuck to revealing the singer’s bids for campaign and not his requests for personal favour.

He said, “Keyamo should have just stuck to revealing the musician’s desperate and humiliating bids to campaign for the re-election of a President he wants Nigerians to consider an utter failure, and not the man’s requests for personal favour. That, in my opinion, is unnecessary and low.”

Eedris Abdulkareem reacts: My Jaga Jaga reloaded got Keyamo, he’s pained

Popular Nigerian artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem has replied the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Mr Festus Keyamo, over controversies that trailed his “Nigeria Jagajaga Reloaded”.

The Nigeria JagaJaga crooner in the remix of the original version which was released with a video a few weeks ago, questioned the position of the Minister in the President Buhari administration, saying, “Where Festus Keyamo sef? He don dey chop with cabal oh.”

Keyamo in a tweet response to the song claimed Eedris had approached him in 2018 when he was named Director of Strategic Communications for Buhari Campaign Organization and wanted to join the group for a fee.

He explained further that he told the artist that he had no budget for such, saying, “He (Eedris) then switched to the fact that he wanted a loan to pay for his hotel bills to the tune of N1.3million and to cater for his ‘sick mum’ which was already running into more than N3million, but at this point, I knew he was a desperate hustler who could embarrass me, so I ghosted him”.

In a hit back, Eedris asked; “Did Festus Keyamo join the cabal or not?”

Narrating his side of the event, Eedris in a statement (with some pidgin) said; “When he [Keyamo] was in prison, I stood by him, I fought Obasanjo on behalf of all the comrades in prison, I released Jagajaga.

“When my mother was dying, I reached out to a brother, or one I thought was a brother and a comrade. Could he have helped, yes, did he help, NO…such was the wickedness of his heart that he munched and kept personal details for three years…real Hallmark of a Blackmailer!

“In 2018, I still thought the man was a comrade. Thought he could effect change in the government he served. Then he joined the cabal, he became inner caucus and held the steering wheel spiralling Nigeria into doom.

“He joined to crush the revolution of the youths, he joined the cabal. The cabal which mowed down our youths at LEKKI TOLL GATE.

“With a vexed spirit, I went again to the studio for “Jagajaga Reloaded” and the Blackmailer went to town. The cabal is awoken.

”The cabal is hit. The cabal is in pain. The cabal is failing. The cabal will FALL.

“The Blackmailer said I recorded a song for Buhari. The said song is titled: “Obasanjo Write Buhari Letter”…

“Issues raised on Jagajaga Reloaded are facts. Nigeria never had it so bad. The Jagajaga has taken a gargantuan dimension. We must keep asking questions. We must ask the cabal questions.

“Festus Keyamo don join the cabal. He is in pains because his next ambition is to be governor of Delta State.

“Perhaps to localise grand looting, terrorism, murdering and raping of our citizens, kidnapping, which his cabal have romanticised and packaged as banditry, and sundry other mis-governance. This is why Jagajaga ti get e!

    “Festus Keyamo na cabal.”

The Jagajaga reloaded is a four minutes song which featured other Nigeria artists like Nigga Raw. The song also criticized the President Muhammadu Buhari administration which it described as a “democracy military” as well as the activities of the military during the #EndSARS protest.

Keyamo commiserates with Itsekiri Kingdom on passage of monarch, congratulates Olu designate

The Minister of State, Labour and Employment and representative of Delta State in the Federal Executive Council, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, commiserates with the Itsekiris worldwide on the passage of their revered monarch, the immediate past Olu, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli. He prays for the repose of his soul.

The Minister equally congratulates the new Olu-designate, Prince Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, as announced by the Iyatsere of Warri Kingdom. He looks forward to hitch-free coronation ceremonies whilst praying for God’s guidance and a successful reign on the exalted throne.

The Minister also notes the dissent expressed by some on the issue. As one of the leaders of the Bar and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, advises those aggrieved to either accept the decision in good faith in the overall interest of the Itsekiri Kingdom and Delta State or have recourse to due process and legal avenues in ventilating their dissent. A resort to violence cannot be an option.

  • Amaechi, Keyamo, Abugu, Afejuku say PIB for Niger Delta should be beyond sharing of funds

Amaechi, Keyamo, Abugu, Afejuku say PIB for Niger Delta should be beyond sharing of funds

At a time key players in the Niger Delta region are fixated on the passage, signing and implementation of the protracted Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), with the hope that the proposed legislation will eliminate the decay in the region, Transportation Minister/former governor of Rivers State, HE, Rotimi Amaechi has urged lawmakers to put legislations in place to ensure PIB doesn’t end merely as a revenue sharing agitation.

This was the same position advanced by Hon. Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN; Prof Tony Afejuku of University of Benin and Prof. Joseph Abugu, all of whom made their submissions on the discourse at a one day colloquium, entitled, ‘PIB: finally getting it right and breaking the 20-year hiatus’.

Speaking at the summit, Amaechi who said he completely support the demand for 10% derivation funds for host communities, opined that institutionalizing how such monies will be spent without compromising the real developmental goals of the region should be a significant consideration.

His words, “I support completely the demand for 10% derivation funds for host communities , however, we need to ask what we do with monies beyond just sharing money. It is critical for NASS to realize that Nigeria can remain the same forever.

“We need to ask ourselves basic questions what are we doing with the NDDC funds; I applaud the 9th NASS for putting structures in place to focus on transparency, for all those who want speedy passage, let us put it in mind that this must be done in such a that transparency is also put in place”

The question of leadership is key, whether we get 10% or not if the leadership crisis persists in the region no benefits will accrue to the people.

Focus should be on capital projects not just establishing wasteful commissions – Keyamo

The Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, Chief Festus Keyamo described the provision in the PIB bill as standard but opined that efforts must be geared towards restricting projects from derviation funds to capital projects alone.

Keyamo lament how the establishments of several commissions in the Niger Delta has yielded no results despite heavy funding.

His words, “Are we going to be excited about establishment of commissions? The Niger Delta people have always been content with making billionaires out of elites who give crumbs to the people. For me, the whole of the provision in the bill are standard provisions but we need to specifically protect the interest of host communities.

“People only struggle to be Managing Director of such commissions, be on the board, or become a friend of the commission just to get contracts and not for the actual development of the Niger/Delta region. How do we ensure the we build roads, hospitals? Who are going to be in the trustees? How do we get people of integrity to lead this? If the NDDC had been restricted to major capital projects, all the monies coming into the region will have been more felt today.

“Let’s limit our goals to capital projects that will last for over 50 years, that way we will ensure the monies will go to the realisation of real developmental plans in Niger Delta.”

PIB bill retrogressive, empty, failed in ensuring affirmative representation of host communities- Prof. Abugu

Professor Joseph Abugu, describes the PIB as a retrogressive bill for failing to respect federalism, lacking provisions for state government, host communities in several regulatory boards in the downstream and upstream sector.

His words: “No effort is made at the decentralization and deregulation in the PIB bill; restructuring Nigeria is inevitable, I find this bill retrogressive and empty on this stance.

“Consideration for state government, host communities are not provided . For the purposes of maintaining federal character and ensuring affirmative representation of host communities in these regulatory boards.

“Also, the process of issuing of exploration licenses gives no affirmative roles for the host communities, and this can lead us to a point where a particular ethnic group can dominate the floor. It is not sufficient to base our interest on derivations, I see deficiencies in the structure of the institutions, scope of operations as it doesn’t pay attention to the needs of the host communities.”

Without quality leadership, PIB will still fail Niger Delta – Afejuku

Prof Tony Afejuku of University of Benin raised the issue of bad leadership in the Niger Delta region and how it the menace crippled the region’s growth.

He strongly believe that no amount of revenue ploughed into the region will facilitate development until quality leadership is attained.

The question of leadership is key, whether we get 10% or not if the leadership crisis persists in the region no benefits will accrue to the people.

Host communities should be properly defined -Oghojafor

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, (UNILAG) Professor Ben Oghojafor demands that a more specific definitions need be made to classify host communities.

“This PIB bill has been begging for attention; I posit that powers of the Minister of Petroleum should be further reduced in the bill, the host communities should be properly defined and stakeholder should be classified to avoid class of interest between host communities and impacting community. I submit that there is need to create awareness in all host communities

“When the host communities get 10%, will it not go the same way that of 13% funds for DESOPADEC went? we need to look at issues of arbitrations, there should be alternative dispute resolution in the bill, to make it a holistic one and avoid endless communal clashes. I will end up in saying that the emphasis on gas will bring lots of opportunities to our nation if this bill is amended to capture the gains.”

Don’t exit Fulani herdsmen with brute force- Ozekhome, Keyamo tell Akeredolu SAN

Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome and Festus Keyamo, have said it will be wrong to use brute force to exit the Fulani herdsmen from Ondo State.

I believed it should have been done through a court order; not through brute force,” Ozekhome said.

“Though there are criminal issues regarding some herdsmen in the country,” Keyamo stated.

Adding: “Most Nigerians do not know that their so-called ethnic ‘leaders’ are deliberately putting an ethnic spin to these issues.”

Keyamo, who is the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, opined that some leaders want to use it as an opportunity to vent their personal political frustration on the system.”

herders to desist from taking their cows to people’s farms for grazing

According to Ozekhome, a Constitutional lawyer, “We must build a country of strong institutions, not strong men.”

Ozekhome he noted that it was strong institutions that made America defeated their former President, Donald Trump.

Ozekhome maintained that it is a court of law that can sift the chaff from the seeds.

“I do not agree with the tarring of a whole race or occupation with the besmearing paintbrush of criminality,” he posited.

Meanwhile Fulani Herders across the Southwest are not to carry out both night and underaged grazing with immediate effect.

This was contained in a directive issued by the National President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa.

Alhaji Kiruwa also warned herders to desist from taking their cows to people’s farms for grazing.

  • Why lawmakers couldn’t stop commencement of FG’s 774,000 jobs scheme – Keyamo

Why lawmakers couldn’t stop commencement of FG’s 774,000 jobs scheme – Keyamo

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has said that members of the House of Representatives have no powers to halt the Federal Government’s Public Works Programme.

According to him, only the president can halt the 774,000 jobs scheme which commenced on Tuesday.

“They were urging Mr President, (look at the resolution, they cannot actually mandate) – to see whether they could halt commencement of the programme, but Mr President had actually directed that we commence the programme. It is only Mr President that can actually say that we should stop implementation of the programme, so on the directive of Mr President, we have actually commenced the programme,” Keyamo said on a monitored Channels Television programme.

The House of Representatives had last month passed a resolution mandating the minister to stay action on the planned implementation of the scheme.

The reps had insisted that the programme will not be implemented until a comprehensive list of beneficiaries from the Nigerian directorate of employment is made available.

But despite the hesitation by both chambers of the National Assembly, the programme has commenced across the country.

Under the scheme, 774,000 people are expected to be recruited by the Federal Government, with the sum of N52 billion, earmarked in the 2020 budget.

1,000 persons are to be employed from each of the 774 Local Government Areas in the country, for the programme which is said to be a post-COVID-19 poverty alleviation initiative, approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

    No hike in electricity tariff

Meanwhile, the Minister also explained that has been no increment in electricity tariff. According to him, what was done was to adjust certain bands and to ensure that certain persons who are supposed to be on some bands, are not wrongly put on some other bands.

“What we agreed to do was to freeze certain bands (we have band A,B,C,D). In the interim, what we did was to adjust certain bands and to ensure that certain persons who were supposed to be on some bands, are not wrongly put on some other bands but there has not been any increase in tariffs,” he said.

This is contrary to a statement by NERC issued earlier on Tuesday admitting that the rates for service bands A, B, C, D, and E have been “adjusted” by N2 to N4 per kilowatt-hour (KWH).

According to the agency, the adjustment is in compliance with the provisions of the Electric Power Sector Reform (ESPR) Act and Nigeria’s tariff methodology for biannual minor review.

It also noted that it was aimed at reflecting the partial impact of inflation and movement in forex.

But Keyamo who is the chairman of the sub-committee mandated to go round the country to interact with stakeholders and the discos to find a cost-effective tariff that Nigerians can pay, maintained that there has been no increase in tariff.

“We are still in the process of carrying out our assignment, we have not finished and when I saw the story this morning, I consulted members of the team and they said it is not correct. There has been no increase in tariff,” he said on Tuesday.

  • Fuel hike: NLC, TUC leaders walk out of meeting with SGF, Ngige, Keyamo, other FG representatives

Fuel hike: NLC, TUC leaders walk out of meeting with SGF, Ngige, Keyamo, other FG representatives

The Organised Labour on Sunday walked out of a meeting with the Federal Government on recent increase in fuel price and electricity tariffs.

The meeting was said to be about five minutes old before the Organised Labour, comprising Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, staged a walk out.

In attendance from the federal government were the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timiprye Sylva; Minister of State for Power, Goddy Agba and the Secretary to the Government, Boss Mustapha.

TUC President, Quadri Olaleye told Channels TV that the federal government was dishonest and playing to the gallery and painting the organised labour in a bad light before civil servants and the public.

Representing the Nigerian Labour Congress was its deputy president, Najeem Yasin.

According to him, this meeting was not going to be as usual because Labour had seen the insincerity of government in putting them at risk.

He said they were being taking for a ride, which could not continue.

“We are in the process of discussing, for over three months now. And they made announcement increasing the fuel price again. And no other person than NNPC. When has authority been giving to NNPC to increase the price of PMS? This is unacceptable.

“The meeting agenda is not well prioritised. And because of that, we are leaving the meeting. We will not continue, we will go back to our organ, and we are going to get back to you on the next line of action,” he said.

According to Minister of Labour and Employment, Ngige, “We felt that the item of increase in PMS, having been listed at all as an additional item, would have satisfied everybody.”
