    Police confirm kidnap of 5 female students of Federal varsity

    The Police in Katsina State, has confirmed the kidnap of five female students of the Federal University Dutsinma, (FUDMA) in Katsina by gunmen.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Aliyu said that the terrorists’ invaded “resident of the students” behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma.

    Aliyu said that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m., on Wednesday.

    He said that the police have arrested one person suspected to be supplying information to the terrorists who abducted the students.

    The spokesman said that efforts are on to rescue the victims unhurt.

    According to reports, both male and female students are living off-campus due to insecurity.

    Bandits kill 2, kidnap 3 in Kaduna

    The police command in Kaduna State has confirmed that two persons were killed and three others kidnapped by suspected bandits on Sept. 15 in a community in the state.

    The command’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development on Sunday in Kaduna.

    Hassan said that the incident took place in Dogon Noma-Unguwan Gamu community in the Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.

    He said that the bandits invaded the community at about 6:30 a.m., killing and abducting the victims.

    The spokesman assured that the bandits would eventually be arrested to face the wrath of the law.

    Police rescue 4 kidnapped victims in Delta

    The Police Command in Delta has rescued four kidnapped victims in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

    The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Warri.

    Edafe said that the victims were rescued on Tuesday by a combined team of Police operatives attached to the Orerokpe division, troops of the Nigerian Army, and Orerokpe community vigilantes.

    He said that the victims who residents of Orerokpe community, were abducted on Monday while on transit enroute Eku-Abraka Road by Orerokpe Bridge.

    The spokesman said that the incident was reported on Sept. 12, at the Orerokpe Division and that the suspects were demanding N10 million ransom.

    “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Orerokpe division, CSP Paul Oboware in a swift response led a team of Policemen, with support from the troops of the Nigerian Army and members of Oreorokpe community vigilantes.

    “The rescue team, using technically generated intelligence, trailed the kidnappers into the adjoining bushes.

    “They combed the bushes relentlessly, putting pressure on the kidnappers who on sighting the team abandoned the victims and took to their heels.

    “Consequently, all the kidnapped victims were rescued and taken to the hospital where they were treated and discharged,” he said.

    Edafe said that the victims have since reunited with their families, adding that efforts are in top gear to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

    His two personal aides were said to have been killed in the vicinity of the hotel before the kidnappers effortlessly took him away.

    Regarded as one of the strongest native doctors in Anambra State, it was a surprise that he was kidnapped with so much ease in his hotel, Triple P Hotel, which is one of the three hotels he built in Oba.

    The Anambra State police command has confirmed his kidnap as the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said the incident happened around at about 11:30pm last night.

    The Police Command in Kwara has confirmed rescue of four kidnapped victims, abducted in Isin Local Government Area of the state.

    The Spokeperson of the command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Ilorin.

    The statement said the victims were rescued by a combined team of policemen, hunters and vigilantes on the directive of the state Police Commissioner, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi.

    “However, acting on the directive of the state Police Commissioner, the command’s anti-kidnapping unit stationed within the Isanlu-Isin axis, assisted by hunters and vigilantes, swung into action and gave the abductors a hot chase.

    “In the process, the kidnappers abandoned the Sienna bus conveying the victims at the time of the incident and one of them, Oke Olatunji, was rescued by the team.

    “The CP personally led another special tactical team on search and rescue operation into the forest within Isin town and in the process, another victim identified as Femi Ajayi, with bullet injury, was rescued.

    “He was taken to the health center in Isanlu-Isin where he is currently receiving medical attention.

    “Another two persons were rescued by the police on Saturday night July 15,” the statement read in part.

    Recalled that on July 13, four victims Dipe Ajayi, Kunle Abolarin, Femi Abolarin and Femi Ajayi were abducted at about 5 p.m in Isanlu-Isin.

    The victims all hailed from Oke-Arin, Isanlu-Isin in lsin local government area of the state.

    Gunmen kidnap bride in Ilorin, demand N50m ransom

    A newlywed woman, Rukkayat Musa, was kidnapped by gunmen who invaded her home at Oniyangi area on Emir’s Road, Ilorin, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday.

    According to sources, the woman and her husband, identified simply as Mr Musa, got married about three months ago. The husband managed to escape through the backyard of the building when the gunmen attacked, but his wife was taken away by the assailants.

    The kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N50m for the release of the woman. A relative of the victim, who pleaded anonymity, said the family had no such money and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to assist them.

    He said: “The kidnappers have got in contact with the family and demanded N50m, which they said should be paid before the weekend.

    “The family has no such money and that is why we are appealing to philanthropists and members of the public to assist us so that the kidnappers will not kill our daughter.”

    The relative said the incident was reported to the police at the Oja Oba Station, Ilorin, on Thursday.

    When contacted on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident. He said the police were on top of the situation and would ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt.

    He said: “We are aware of the incident and we are working hard to rescue the victim. We have deployed our men to comb the area and track down the kidnappers.

    “We urge members of the public to provide us with useful information that can help us in our investigation.”

    He also advised residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station

    Police arrest kidnap, drug peddling suspects in Delta

    The Police Command in Delta has apprehended a kidnap suspect and recovered arms and ammunition from him in the state.

    The spokesman of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, told newsmen on Thursday in Warri that the suspect was nabbed on Wednesday by operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

    Edafe said that the suspect was arrested at his hideout in Uvwie Local Government Area following an intelligently gathered information about the hoodlum.

    He said that the RRS was led by its commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Omouwuigbe Nosakhare.

    “Acting on credible intelligence about a suspect who hibernates somewhere in Warri but a member of a dreaded kidnap syndicate, SP Nosakhare, on May 24, 2023, led operatives of RRS and stormed the criminal hideout in Uvwie Local Government Area where the suspect was arrested.

    “A search warrant was executed in his premises where one English Berretta pistol and 15 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition were recovered,” he said.

    Edafe said that investigation in the matter was ongoing.

    In another development, the police spokesman said that the command had arrested a suspected drug peddler in Jeddo Community, Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

    He said that the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday by police operatives attached to the Orerokpe Division while on intensive stop-and-search/visibility patrol on Jeddo Road.

    “The operatives intercepted the suspect with a suspicious looking bag. He was subjected to a search during which weeds suspected to be Indian hemp was discovered.

    “Other hard drugs in large quantities were found in his possession and packaged in a mini rubber cups for sale. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody,” he said.

    Edafe said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was a notorious drug peddler in Okpe and environs, adding that efforts to arrest his accomplices are ongoing.

    Police, local security outfits rescue 58 kidnap victims in FCT

    The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in collaboration with local security outfits, have rescued 58 kidnap victims from some identified kidnappers den in communities contiguous to the territory.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

    She said the victims were rescued at Udulu Forest, Gegu LGA of Kogi State, bordering Sardauna Forest, Nasarawa State, and other identified kidnapper’s den in communities contiguous to the FCT.

    According to her, the bandits/Kidnappers on sighting the security team coordinated by the police, engage the security team in a shootout duel.

    “The bandits were overpowered and escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries leaving behind their victims,” she said.

    Adeh said the rescue operation was part of efforts by the command’s leadership to sustain joint operation with other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters from the various local communities.

    She said the idea was to combat violent crimes in the FCT, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators to book.

    The PPRO pledged the committment of the command at sustaining efforts to prevent threats to safety and security of FCT residents.

    She said the command would also not relent in ensuring the rescue of any resident held hostage by criminals as well as bringing the perpetrators to book.

    Adeh said the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Mr. Haruna Garba, has called for cooperation from FCT residents.

    She said the CP enjoined the residents to be security conscious and provide credible information to the Police.

    Adeh said one of the kidnap victim, Tama Jonathan, unfortunately, sustained injury during the rescue operation and died on the spot.

    She said the remains of the victim had subsequently been released to his family for burial.

    She said that the other 58 rescued victims were being stabilised in the hospital and would be reunited with their families.

    .The kidnap incident was reported by the singer’s management on Friday via a statement on her verified Instagram page.

    According to the statement, some suspects have been arrested and are “currently being held under investigation at Alagbon Police Station, Ikoyi.”

    It added that Savage and her family are safe.

    However, self-acclaimed investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, alleged that the singer’s new driver masterminded the kidnap attempt alongside his cohorts.

    In a post shared via her Instagram page, Olunloyo claimed that the kidnappers trailed the singer for days before they were caught and handed over to the police.

    She said Tiwa Savage’s new driver was the informant to the kidnappers.

    She warned celebrities to be wary of their domestic staff.

    Gunmen kidnap one person, shoot 2 others in Kano

    The Police Command in Kano State said gunmen kidnapped a 60-year-old man  and shot two others in Gangarbi village of Rano Local Government Area of the state.

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Manman Dauda, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with NAN in Kano on Tuesday.

    He said that the incident occurred on Monday at about 1:30 am.

    He said that the police received the information at about 01.30 am that unknown armed bandits stormed Gangarbi village of Rano Local Government Area and abducted one Alhaji Na’ayya Gangarbi to an unknown destination.

    Dauda said that a combined team of the divisional patrol, JTF and Anti-Kidnap squad immediately rushed to the scene.

    The police commissioner explained that two persons who sustained bullet wounds – Maskuru Ukaisha on his right leg and Salisu Ibrahim on his left shoulder – were evacuated and rushed to Rogo General hospital for treatment.

    According to him, additional armed security personnel have been deployed to the area to track and arrest the gunmen and all other miscreants undermining peaceful coexistence among the residents.

    “Well-armed security personnel and other tactical teams along with vigilante group members have been deployed to the area to ensure successful rescue of the victims,” he said.

    He said that investigation had commenced in order to apprehend the abductors and rescue the victims.
