    Police foil kidnap bid, arrest 4 in Edo

    The Police in Edo on Tuesday said their men foiled an alleged kidnap bid, arrested four suspected kidnappers while on township surveillance patrol on Ugbor road at GRA in Benin.

    This is contained in a statement by ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in Benin.

    Iwegbu the suspects were Ayo Jeremiah Obazuwa, 50, Sule Kelson Jubril, 34,  Silas Uwana, 33,  and Ogbonmwan Jude,  37.

    She said Obazuwa  was in complete military regalia and claimed to be a military captain during his arrest.

    According to her, “Operatives of Edo State Police Command while on township surveillance patrol on 10/09/2022  along Ugbor road, GRA Benin, stopped a suspicious Toyota Corolla car with Reg. no USL929SS with five occupants.

    “On a closer survey of the occupants of the car, one of the suspects who later was identified as Ayo Jeremiah Obazuwa, was on complete military regalia and claimed to be a captain.

    “Another occupant who was later identified as Joseph Bulus ,  32, was seen in handcuffs, which led to all the occupants being brought to State CID for further investigation.”

    Iwegbu said during the preliminary investigations, Obazuwa confessed to being a civilian and not military personnel as he earlier stated.

    She said Joseph Bulus stated that he was in his house when the self-acclaimed Captain came in the company of three others under the guise of giving him a job but rather handcuffed him, dragged him into the boot of the car and whisked him away to an unknown location, before he was later removed from the boot and made to sit in the car.

    Iwegbu, however, said the case had been charged to court on Monday under a six-count charge bordering on
    Conspiracy to commit felony and kidnapping punishable under the Criminal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

    Consequently she said the suspects had been remanded in prison custody pending DPP’s advice.

    Amotekun begin search as gunmen kidnap 32 persons in Ondo

    Suspected gunmen have reportedly abducted 32 persons in Ondo State.

    According to reports, the 32 victims were returning from a burial service in Benin City, Edo State over the weekend when the incident happened.

    It was learned that the victims were waylaid by the gunmen while travelling in a Coaster bus.

    Following the development, officers of the Amotekun Corps, immediately commenced searching of the Benin-Ifon to Owo forest for the abducted persons.

    Adetunji Adeleye, Commandant of the corps in the state, confirmed the incident and said that the command would do all possible to rescue the victims.

    In order to release the victims, the Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies, according to Adeleye, had been informed and had since started a search and rescue operation.

    The Police Command in Akwa Ibom on Friday paraded a 40-year-old woman, Mrs Joy Emmanuel,  for allegedly arranging the kidnap of her husband, Mr Emmanuel Ebong.
    The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, told newsmen that Joy and the kidnappers collected the sum of  N2million as a ransom for her husband’s release.
    Durosinmi said that the police command in the state would leave no stone unturned to stamp out criminals and criminality.
    Speaking to newsmen, Joy said that circumstances forced her to plan the kidnap of Ebong, an indigene of Ntak Obio Akpa in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
    She said that her husband did not only starve her of sex but also refused to provide for the family.
    ”I did menial jobs to fend for the family. I arranged his kidnap because I needed money to take care of the family.
    ”Unfortunately I was not given the ransom money after the abduction was successful,” she said.
    Joy mentioned one Udo Moji, now at large, as the leader of the gang she engaged  for  her husband’s abduction.
    She said, ”They collected the money from me and never gave anything to me.  Some members of the group who were arrested while spending the money mentioned my name to the police.”
    Also speaking, Ebong said that he was kidnapped at about 8.30 p.m., on July 21 shortly after entering his house.
    “They took me out of my compound in a mini bus. They kept me for four days and demanded the sum of N2million as ransom.
    ”They took me me to Etinan where they caged me. I am very fortunate that the police came on a rescue operation.
    ‘They collected N2million from me. The police later recovered about N500,000 from them,” he said.

    Edo: Police kill suspected kidnapper, arrest 3 cult suspects

    Operatives of the Edo Police Command have killed a suspected kidnapper and arrested three cult suspects in different operations in the state.

    ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the command stated this on Thursday in a statement issued in Benin.

    Iwegbu said in its continuous efforts to stem the tide of heinous crimes and criminality in the state, the command also rescued a victim of kidnapping in the state

    The victim, Austine Adoghe, she said, was rescued unhurt and taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

    The police spokesperson said bush combing exercise was ongoing for possible arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang.

    “Following a kidnapping incident by some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along the Uluoke axis, operatives of the command swung into action, mobilised in collaboration with vigilantees and hunters.

    “They embarked on rigorous bush combing for possible rescue of the victim and arrest of the suspects.

    “This, however, yielded results today, when the suspected kidnappers were trailed to their hideout and on sighting the operatives, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on them, which led to a gun duel.

    “The superior firepower of the operatives made the hoodlums abandon their victim and escaped into the forest with various degrees of gunshot injuries, although one of the hoodlums was neutralised in the process”, she said.

    Items recovered, according to Iwegbu, are one locally made cut-to-size gun and two live cartridges.

    In another related development, the police said they arrested three suspected cultists along four junction, Evbuotubu in Benin.

    The suspects, the spokesperson for the police in the state said were arrested were attacking two persons in the area

    The suspects were Friday Ediare, Odion Otoghile and Otamere Oghogbe.

    “The trio confessed to being members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity who were out looking for members to initiate into their dreaded cult group.

    “Investigation is ongoing with the aim of arresting other members,” she said.

    Military kills 45 terrorists, releases 45 kidnapped victims

    Troops of Nigerian Armed Forces operating in North West, North Central theatres of operations have eliminated over 45 terrorists/bandits in both land and air operations in the last two weeks.

    The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, made this known at a bi-weekly news briefing of the Defence Headquarters on Thursday in Abuja.

    In North Central, Onyeuko said the air component of Operation Whirl Punch carried out air strike on terrorists loyal to a notorious terrorist, Alhaji Shanono at Ukambo village in Kaduna State.

    He said the air strike was carried out during the terrorists meeting on Aug. 8 based on credible intelligence.

    He said the airstrike led to the killing of Shanono with 18 other terrorists, adding that 30 AK47 rifles and 20 motorcycles were destroyed in the attack.

    Onyeuko said that as a result of the operations, 45 kidnapped civilians were released.

    Onyeuko further said that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested some notorious criminals who had been on the wanted list of the theatre command.

    He said Nathaniel Azege, who had been terrorising Makurdi town was apprehended as well as Moses Aindigh (27) and Mr Iluyasu Mohammed (37) during the period.

    In North West, Onyeuko said the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji on July 25, arrested five suspected foreign bandits named, Muritala Wada, Saminu Sani, Shamisu Adamu, Salisu Saadu and Usman Ibrahim at Jibia in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

    He said the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji had on Aug. 6, carried out successful strikes on key terrorists enclave and hideout located at Rudu forest in Katsina State.

    According to hin, the air interdiction led to the neutralisation of a high profiled terrorist leader who has been on the wanted list of the military named Alhaji Abdulkareem Lawal (a.k.a Abdulkareem Boss) and his foot soldiers.

    “Credible intelligence report revealed that he was responsible for several terrorists’ attacks, animal rustling and kidnapping and was also known to regularly invite terrorists group from other areas and regions to join in the attack on his targets.

    “Report gathered from the locals revealed that the terrorists leaders were neutralised alongside 27 foot soldiers,” he said.

    Onyeuko further revealed that troops had between July 31 and Aug. 2, arrested one Malam Yahaya a notorious bandit informant who had been on the tracking list of the Department of State Security for collaborating with bandits on the numerous attacks in Sabon Brini general area of Sokoto State.

    According to him, the troops also recovered 161 cattle, eight camels, large consignment of clothing from terrorists after an encounter in Zango in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

    The Police Command in Katsina says its operatives have successfully rescued six kidnapped victims at Unguwan Dako, Tandama village, Danja Local Government Area (LGA).

    The command spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah said this in a statement on Sunday in Katsina.

    Isah said that on Aug. 6, at about 5:30 a.m., based on credible intelligence, the command raided terrorists’ hideout at Tandama village, and succeeded in rescuing six kidnapped victims.

    According to him, the victims include 52-year- old Alhaji Garba Dan-Mallam, Rabiu Idris, aged 45 and Abba Samaila, 38-year-old, all of Unguwar Nuhu LGA.

    “Also, Yunusa Sani, aged 54, Ishaq Yakub, 40 and Danjuma Samaila, aged 45, all of Layin Sani Village Kafur,” he said.

    Issah said also that eight suspected terrorists including their leader, Abdulkarim Faca-faca were killed during a raid on Sunday by the NIgeria Air Force. (NAF).

    “And this morning in the same area, our operatives embarked on mop up operation as terrorists fled but all their rustled cows perished as many escaped with bullet wounds,” he said.

    Gunmen kidnap 4-year-old boy as father escapes abduction

    Suspected gunmen have kidnapped a four-year-old boy, Oluwadarasimi Omojola, as his father, Boluwaji Omojola, managed to escape on Itaji/Ijelu-Ekiti Road in Oye Local Government area of Ekiti.

    The traditional ruler of the community, Owajumu of Omu-Ekiti, Oba Gabriel Ogundeyi, confirmed the incident through a telephone conversation with newsmen on Saturday.

    Ogundeyi said the incident happened at about 6.00 p.m on Friday.

    The traditional ruler explained that the boy was returning from Ayede-Ekiti with his father, who managed to escape, after sustaining a severe cutlass injuries from the abductors.

    He said that the injured farmer was currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed facility.

    Ogundeyi said that security operatives and local hunters had since been mobilised to go after the kidnappers to rescue the boy.

    However, DSP. Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, has yet to confirm the incident as the time of filing this report.

    BREAKING: Gunmen Kidnap two Nollywood stars in Enugu

     

    Veteran film stars Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornell have been kidnapped after they left a movie location in Enugu.

    Spokesperson of Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) Monalisa Chinda announced this via her verified Instagram page.

    Chinda said her senior colleagues were reportedly missing after their family members confirmed they didn’t come back from a film location at Ozalla Town, Enugu State.

    National President of AGN, Emeka Rollas, urged members to avoid going to cities’ outskirts to film except when full security was provided to ensure safety.

    The statement reads: “Two members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel aka (Agbogidi) were reportedly missing after their family members confirmed they didn’t come back from a film Location at Ozalla Town, Enugu state.

    “The two members were suspected to have been kidnapped and this has increased fear amongst members about safety of Actors filming in the country.

    “In view of this sad development, the National President of the Guild, Ejezie Emeka Rollas has instructed all Actors to avoid going to outskirt of cities to film except full security cover is provided to ensure their safety.

    “The National President is shocked over this ugly incident and urged the security agencies to speed up investigations that would lead to their safe rescue.

    “He equally appeals to all members to pray for the safe return of the thespians.”

    The Nigerian Police have reportedly rescued over 50 children from a church’s basement on Friday evening. It was reported that the children were allegedly kidnapped.

    The event occurred in the Valentino Area of Ondo town, Ondo West LGA of Ondo State.

    Several children allegedly kidnapped have been discovered in a church’s basement in the Valentino Area of Ondo town, Ondo West LGA of Ondo State.

    It was discovered that the kids were allegedly victims of a kidnapping syndicate and kept in the underground of the church.

    The pastor of the church and some members of the church have been detained by the police.

    SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the state command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development stating that the victims have been brought to the police headquarters in Akure.

  • Police confirm release of Sani Toro, 2 others

    The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed the release of the former Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Sani Toro, Garba Yila, former Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles, and Alhaji Isa Jah by their abductors.

    The Spokesman of the Command SP Ahmed Wakil, who confirmed their release to journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday, said no details yet on how they were released.

    A close associate of Toro, Mr. Aliyu Gumau said that all of them were released this morning around 5 am.

    “They were returned to Abuja to rest and have some medical examination but they are in good health, we appreciate Allah for that.

    “They have since been reunited with their families in Bauchi,” he said

    The trio were abducted on Saturday while coming back from a wedding in Abuja around Akwanga in Nasarawa State.
