    Gunmen abduct Rivers polytechnic lecturer from residence

    A lecturer in Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, James Finwe, has been kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen from his residence.

    It was gathered that Finwe was kidnapped from his residence at Igwurutali, in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State on Tuesday evening.

    Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, of the Polytechnic, Prince Psudo Wiwo confirmed that Finwe was kidnapped at his residence on Tuesday evening.

    The ASUP Chairman threatened that lecturers of the institution may be forced to embark on peaceful protest if their colleague is not released unconditionally.

    According to Wiwo, “the news of the kidnap of James Finwe, came to us as shock. As a Union, we are calling on the security agencies to rescue our colleague. The abductors are also advised to release Finwe unconditionally without further delay. The Union will not accept any kidnapping of any of our members even after the release of Finwe.

    “If wait for a while and he is not released unconditionally, we will stage a peaceful protest.”

    Police have reacted to the abduction of the lecturer as at the time of filing in this story.

    Gunmen have killed the former education secretary of Nasarawa local government area of the state Malami Salihu and Kidnapped 20 people who were traveling to Toto Local Government Area of the state.

    The incident took place Tuesday afternoon along mungi sharp Conner Buga Gwari, Gadabuke area of Toto LGA

    They 20 kidnapped victims were traveling in three vehicles and were intercepted by the gunmen who match them into the bush.

    The late Salihu was among those kidnapped but his lifeless body was later found in the bush near the road.

    The secretary of Gadabuke emirate council, Abdullahi Baba who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said the gunmen in their numbers came out from bush and attacked the vehicles plying the road and match the passengers into the bush to an unknown destination.

    He said “the former education secretary was also traveling alongside his friend in a private vehicle were also taken away with others but his dead body was later found in a nearby bush,” he said.

    He said the kidnappers have not made any contact to any of the relatives of the victims.

    Gunmen kidnap Catholic Bishop, Moses Chikwe in Imo

    Gunmen have kidnapped the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese in Imo State, Moses Chikwe.

    According to reports the bishop was kidnapped at the World Bank area of Owerri, the state capital.

    He was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday night alongside his driver whose name was not stated.

    The bishop’s car and official regalia were later found near the Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri.

    A statement released by the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria said the Archbishop of the Diocese, Victor Obinna, confirmed the kidnap.

    The statement signed by Secretary-General of the Secretariat, Zacharia Sanjumi, called for prayers for the safe return of the cleric.

    As of the time of this report, there had been no official reports of any correspondence with the kidnappers.

    The kidnap comes barely a week after the kidnap in the state of another Catholic cleric, Valentine Ezeagu.

    The priest was kidnapped on December 15 by gunmen, as he was on his way to bury his late father.

    BREAKING: Kidnapped Edo HoS regains freedom

    The Head of Service (HoS) in Edo State, Anthony Okungbowa, has been released by kidnappers three days after he was abducted.

    Mr Okungbowa was abducted on Saturday evening by unidentified gunmen along Oza Road, in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

    He was said to be on his way back to Benin City, the state capital, after attending an event in the community when the incident happened.

    A relative of the victim, Ehis Nosa, told newsmen that the HoS was released by his abductors on Monday night.

    Mr Nosa said the HoS was released after the payment of an unspecified ransom.

    He, however, did not disclose the amount paid as ransom but said Mr Okungbowa was hail and healthy.

    The family source said the ransom was paid through collaboration between the family and the state government.

    According to him, “We just want to thank God that our brother has been set free and in good health condition.”

    Mr Nosa regretted that the police orderly to the HoS who was shot during the process of his abduction died on Monday evening following complications from the gunshot injury he sustained.

    The police in Oyo State, South-west Nigeria, on Sunday confirmed the kidnap of two foreigners in Ibadan, the state capital.

    It was gathered that the two foreigners, who are Indians, were kidnapped on Wednesday.

    The whereabouts of the victims are still unknown as of the time of this report.

    Reports have it that the two foreigners were kidnapped around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

    They were kidnapped at a pharmaceutical firm near Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

    They were said to be driving out of the company’s premises when the kidnappers, who were trailing them, opened fire on their vehicle’s tyres which forced the vehicles to a halt.

    Their abduction joins a growing list of people, foreigners and Nigerians, kidnapped across Nigeria daily.

    The latest such abduction was the kidnap of a yet to be confirmed number of secondary school students in Katsina State on Saturday.

    Kidnapping for ransom has become common in many parts of Nigeria.

    A member of the Taraba state house of assembly representing Nguroje state constituency, Bashir Mohammed has been kidnapped by gunmen in the early hours today.

    Nduka Obaigbena joins Sam Amuka, Segun Osoba as NPAN Patron Residents of his area in Jalingo, said the gunmen stormed the lawmakers house and shot sporadically before whisking him away around 1.30am.

    According to one of them, “we couldn’t sleep last night, heavy gun shots started around 1:40am to 1:45am as they are leaving.”

    The Police command in Ogun says it has rescued three out of four of its men, abducted by hoodlums at Aba Tuntun community in Ijebu Igbo in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun.

    The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta on Saturday.

    Oyeyemi said that a Constable, Mr Emmanuel Gene, was still being held captive by the hoodlums.

    The spokesman said that the police had deployed operatives to the area to rescue the missing policeman.

    He said that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the abduction and that they were helping the police in investigations.

    According to Oyeyemi, the village head has sent a petition to the police that some hoodlums are in possession of dangerous weapons in the village.

    “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ijebu Igbo, led his team to the place on Thursday with vigilantes and recovered six single barrel guns, 16 Dane guns, 16 cartridges and arrested the suspects.

    “While taking the suspects and the weapons to the station, some hoodlums ambushed them and abducted four of the policemen.

    “They shot the DPO in the arm and freed the suspects.

    “We have rescued three of the policemen abducted. We don’t know the whereabouts of the constable among them.

    “We have arrested three suspects and they are helping us in the investigation,” Oyeyemi stated.

    A humanitarian aid worker and two local officials have been abducted by Islamic State West Africa Province fighters in conflict-plagued northeastern Nigeria, two security officials said Wednesday.

    They were kidnapped by the jihadists at a checkpoint in the village of Wakilti in Borno State on Monday, the sources told a news agency, in the latest incident in a region that has been in the grip of an Islamist insurgency for more than a decade.

    “The hostages included two local officials and an aid worker but it is not clear which organisation he works for,” one of the security sources said.

    The two officials were returning to the regional capital Maiduguri from the town of Mobbar, where they had gone for local elections held on the weekend, the second source said.

    In June five humanitarian workers were killed a few days after being abducted by ISWAP, whose stronghold is on the edge of Lake Chad.

    The local elections in Borno State were the first held since Boko Haram launched its insurgency in 2009.

    In the bloodshed since, more than 36,000 people have been killed and over two million have fled their homes.

    In 2016, Boko Haram splintered into two groups, the Islamic State-affiliated ISWAP and one that remained loyal to historic leader Abubakar Shekau.

    12 Nigerian police officers kidnapped, victims’ families troubled

    Suspected bandits have kidnapped 12 police officers along Katsina-Zamfara expressway, a report by BBC Hausa has revealed.

    According to the report, the officers, who are assistant superintendents of police, were kidnapped ten days ago.

    The officers were on their way to Zamfara from Borno State to carry out a special assignment.

    Police spokesman, Frank Mba, did not respond to calls and a text message to confirm the incident.

    According to the news outlet, the wife of one of the victims said she did not hear from her husband for three days so she decided to report to his station in Borno State.

    It was in the process that she was informed about the sad incident.

    Another family member said they were contacted by the kidnappers and asked to pay N800,000 to secure the release of their relative.

    Zamfara and Katsina states are amongst the North-west states most affected by the activities of bandits who have killed hundreds of people in the past few years and also kidnapped others.

    The two states have seen frequent attacks from bandits in recent years, despite heightened security measure in the area.

    Former Super Eagles skipper Christian Obodo who was kidnapped on Sunday has regained his freedom.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Obodo who was kidnapped along with a female friend of his was released on Sunday night.

    They were abducted along the popular refinery road near Warri in Delta State by unknown gunmen on Sunday evening.

    This was the second time the former Udinese midfielder would be kidnapped.

    The first was sometime in June, 2012 on a Saturday morning while on his way to church at Effurun, near Warri.

    He was rescued on Sunday night around Isoko, on the outskirts of the town.
