    Kidnappers demand N5m for release of abducted DELSU final year students

    Kidnappers that abducted four final students of Delta State State DELSU and five others last Sunday along Abraka-Eku Road have demanded the sum of Five Million Naira as ransom in order to release them.

    The names of the students kidnapped victims are Arogbo Harriet Seyifunmi, Azunobi Prosper, Miracle Etavbwobor Robert, who are all 500 level students of the department of SLT Chemistry and Adegor Aghogho Hapiness, a 500 level student of Electrical Engineering. They all wrote their final exams recently.

    The identities of the other five victims are yet to be unravelled.

    Describing the Incidence as “the alarming abduction of students” of the university, the Student Union Government of the institution in a press release made available to Oasis Magazine on Tuesday, said: “it is very shameful to the state government and Security Agencies that they have done nothing to stop the recent attacks on students and citizens, after reports and official complains have been made about the Eku-Abraka expressway.”

    DELSU SUG called on the Government of Delta State “to wake up, develop and deploy new strategies to deal with insecurity and kidnapping in the State, especially the recent kidnappings along Abraka-Eku expressway,” adding that the lives of students in the institution are in danger.

    “However, we urge all delsuites to remain calm and not endanger the lives of the kidnapped persons, as we are doing all we can to rescue the abducted students. We are in constant communication with the Police department and state DSS, and we are working together with them to save the abducted students in the shortest time possible,” the statement added.

    The Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Adewale Omofaiye, on Sunday escaped being kidnapped but was shot on the leg by suspected kidnappers.

    The incident happened between Ikoyi and Iyara in Kogi State at about 5pm on Sunday evening

    Omofaiye was on his way to Lokoja when the suspected kidnappers opened fire on his vehicle and a bullet him in the leg.

    An eyewitness said some other road users were kidnapped and taken into the bush by the kidnappers.

    Omofaiye is reported to be in stable condition.

    When contracted, the Kogi state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP William Ayah, said the command has not been brief about the development.

    Meanwhile a source further confirmed that the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area who doubles as ALGON chairman in Kogi State, Hon. Isah Taufiq, has mobilised the vigilantes and hunters in search of scores that were kidnapped by the kidnappers

    The Ikoyi-Ijumu Development Association (IDA) leadership was said to have been on top of the matter and highly impressed with the very swift response of the Security personnels, especially, the DPO at Iyara and Vigilantes, including the hunters under the direct supervision of Ijumu LG Chair.

    The Olukoyi has also reportedly visited the site of the incident for on the spot assessment.

    Kidnappers release 10 out of 13 abducted Zaria LG staff

    The Police Command in Kaduna has confirmed the release of 10 out of the 13 abducted staff of the Zaria Local Government, Kaduna state.

    ASP Mohammed Jalige, Police Public Relations Officer, told newsmen on Sunday in Zaria that the kidnapped staff were released on Saturday, adding that efforts are on to ensure the release of the remaining three victims.

    However, the PPRO declined comment on whether ransom was paid to secure the release the abducted staff.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on Nov. 8. Mrs Deborah Mugu, Director, Education and Social Development, her deputy, Dalhatu Aliyu-Awai, and 11 other staff members of Zaria local government were abducted by gunmen.

    The staff was abducted at Kidandan, Giwa Local Government Kaduna state, on their way for a condolence visit to Dogara Abdullahi, a staff, who lost his father.

    However, a family source who craved anonymity, told NAN that the staff members were released after payment of N40m ransom to the kidnappers.

    He added that family members of the victims contributed money to pay the ransom.

    He added that the kidnappers did not release three of the abducted staff because some conditions for the release was N40m and three brand new motorcycles.

    “Only the money was taken to them that is why they refused to release the three staff.

    “The freed victims are yet to be united with their families because they ere taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical examinations,’’ he said.

    When contacted, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, Chairman, Zaria Local Government, said he cannot add anything to what the family source told NAN.

    When further asked on whether the council would provide the new motorcycle to get the three remaining staff released, Ibrahim said: “Fall back to your source”.

    The police in Kano State have rescued one Alhaji Nadabo, 80, from suspected kidnappers in Garun Mallam local government area of the state.

    This is contained in a statement issued by the police spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, on Sunday in Kano.
    “On Nov. 12, 2021, at about 19:57 hours, a report was received that one Alhaji Nadabo, 80, of Chiromawa, Garun Malam local government area of Kano State, has been kidnapped.

    “On receipt of the report, Commissioner of Police Sama’ila Shu’aibu-Dikko, raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Usman Maisoro, to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.

    “The team immediately rushed to the scene and trailed the kidnappers together with members of vigilante and the community members,” he said.

    According to him, with the sustained follow up, the kidnappers released the victim unhurt and fled.

    He quoted CP Shu’aibu-Dikko, as thanking all community policing stakeholders for their continuous support, encouragement and cooperation.

    He also urged the people of the state to continue to expose criminals to enable the police continue to make the state safer.

    Police in Cross River launch manhunt for kidnappers of pastor

    Police in Cross River said on Sunday that they have launched a manhunt for kidnappers of a pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Sunday Adediran.

    Adediran was kidnapped on Nov. 13 at Ikot Eneobong area in Calabar.

    The kidnappers gained entry into his apartment through the roof of the building and whisked the pastor away.

    Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo in Calabar said the police were working with other security agencies to secure the release of the abducted pastor.

    “We are on the matter; we have dispatched a team of police intelligence officers who are working with other security agencies to help us secure his release.

    “By the grace of God, we hope to secure his unconditional release soonest,’’ Ugbo said.

    Mr Usoro Akpanusoh, (PDP-Esit Eket/Ibeno) at the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has narrated how he escaped from being kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

    Mr Akpanusoh confirmed the incident and narrated how he escaped from the unknown gunmen in Esit Eket on Tuesday.

    He stated that the incident happened at a traditional marriage ceremony he attended at Uquo community in Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom last Thursday.

    He said that the gunmen surfaced at the ceremony with intent to abduct him, but he was lucky to escape after struggling with one of them. He revealed that the unknown gunmen killed two persons.

    He expressed appreciation to God that he escaped the kidnap attempt in his home town in Uquo in Esit Eket.

    “I went for a traditional marriage in Uquo in Esit Eket with the family of the Deputy Political Leader of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in my ward.

    “After staying for about 40 minutes, I bade the couple goodbye and approached my car.

    “While attempting to enter my car, I saw a Nissan Sony that blocked it car and a guy came out with AK47 rifle and started shooting sporadically into the air and people thought that he was a policeman.

    “I saw him pointing the gun at my car and started shooting at people directly and bullets hit two guys,’’ he said.

    Akpanusoh said that the abductors removed his driver and approached him and drew him out of his car and attempted to abduct him.

    “Fortunately the driver struggled with the guy and as God would have it, he was able to find his way back to the crowd.

    He said that scores of others were injured and were rushed to the hospital.

    Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom, SP Odiko Macdon, said that the Commissioner of Police had asked the Divisional Police Officer in Esit Eket to investigate the incident.

    “We are aware of the attempt to abduct the House member and the police are trying to determine the extent of the crime,’’ he said.

    Police arrest 8 suspected kidnappers of UNIABUJA staff

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has arrested eight suspected abductors of staff of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA).

    The arrest, according to the command’s Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, was made possible by a joint operation conducted by personnel of the police, army, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

    Adeh’s statement issued in Abuja reads: “Following investigations and manhunt for the criminal elements involved in the abduction of staff of the University of Abuja at the University Staff Quarters, Giri, on 2nd November 2021, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the military, the DSS and other security agencies in a joint operation in the early hours of Friday 5th November 2021, successfully identified the hideout of the criminals located in Shenegwu Forest in the Gwagwalada area of the FCT and rescued all abducted victims unhurt.

    “The criminal elements on sighting the security team engaged them in a fierce gun duel. However, the superior firepower of the security operatives led to the arrest of eight (8) members of the notorious gang while some other members of the gang fled into the forest and nearby communities.

    “The CP enjoined residents particularly those around the Gwagwalada area of the FCT to be vigilant and provide the police with useful information that can assist in apprehending the gang members still at large. However, efforts are being intensified to arrest fleeing members of the gang.

    “All the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of the investigations.

    “The CP assured that investigation was being intensified and a dragnet (had been) extended to arrest all the criminals. He further implored residents to report all suspicious movements, emergencies or distresses, through these numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.”

    Insecurity: State lawmakers join calls for declaration of bandits, kidnappers as terrorists

    The State Legislators of Nigeria, an umbrella body of the Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly have called on the Federal Government to declare banditry and kidnappings as acts of terrorism.

    According to the lawmakers, this will lead to the solution to the insecurity challenges facing the country.

    The request formed part of the resolutions reached during the 2021 Third Quarter General Meeting of the Conference of the State Legislators of Nigeria held at the Katsina Government House on Saturday.

    The Chairman of the Speakers Forum and Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, while reading a communique produced at the end of the meeting, decried the spate of insecurity in the country.

    According to the communique, the lawmakers resolved to work out legislative frame works to complement the efforts of the Federal Government to fight insecurity in the country.

    He added that the conference also resolved to make appropriate laws to address the fundamental issues such as unemployment.

    The meeting also called for financial autonomy across the country.

    “The conference while commending the governors who have given assent to the fund management bills passed by respective state assemblies called on other state governors who are yet to do so to give assent to the bill for effective and efficient implementation of financial autonomy across the nation,” he said.

    Earlier in the day, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State, who declared the conference open, called on the Federal Government to declare a State of Emergency on National security in order to bring an end the loss of lives and property across the state.

    Police arrest six suspected kidnappers in Adamawa

    The Adamawa State Police Command says it has arrested six suspected kidnappers who attacked Ngurore Police Station in Yola-South Local Government Area and kidnapped nursing a mother.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident occurred on October 10, but the victims had been rescued.

    The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mohammed Barde, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Adamawa Police Community Relations Committee on Thursday in Yola.

    He said the command was ready to deal with kidnapping, arm robbery and other criminal activities in the state.

    Barde called for continued support of the committee by providing useful information to the police to ensure peace and security across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

    He assured them that such information would be treated with confidentiality.

    The Commissioner advised the PCRC to remain united in the discharge of their duties and discouraged them from having different factions.

    In his address, Olu Adegoke, State Chairman of PCRC, assured Barde of maximum support and cooperation towards tackling security challenges in the state.

    “We are here to welcome you to Adamawa and give you our support and cooperation, we have been doing that and we will continue to do it,” Adegoke said.

    He said the committee was united and would do everything possible for the success of the police in the state.

    The Police in Adamawa have confirmed the arrest of four high-profiled kidnappers who were suspected to have abducted a nursing mother and her daughter, according to a statement by DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, on Thursday, in Yola.

    Nguroje, the command’s spokesperson, said that the notorious suspects were also behind the attack on Ngurore Police station.

    The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) recalled that on Sunday, Oct. 10, heavily armed suspected kidnappers attacked Ngurore Police station at about 2 am and also kidnapped the woman, Hauwa Umaru and her daughter.

    DSP Sulaiman said operatives of the Anti Kidnapping unit of the state command arrested the suspects on Thursday and recovered one AK-47 rifle with 16 rounds of live ammunitions.

    ” The breakthrough that led to the arrest of the suspects began with the arrest of one Buba Ibrahim a.k.a Babangida , 20, a native of Wuro Bilal village, Ngurore District ,Yola South LGA.

    ” Ibrahim Babangida is one of the principal suspects in the kidnap operation and the confession of the suspect revealed how they abducted Hauwa Umaru, her daughter and one

    Alhaji Bahago of Ibbare and also attacked the Ngurore police station.

    ” The police were assisted by some professional Hunters who apprehended the other three gang members”, Nguroje said.

    He identified the three arrested gang members as: Tumba Alhaji Dan Bappa, 25, a native of Ibbare district, Yola south LGA; Buba Alhaji Abdu, a resident of Ibbare, Ngurore

    District, and Abdullahi Lawal , a resident of Lau local government area in Taraba state.

    Nguroje also said that the suspected criminals were also part of a seven-man syndicate that were terrorising people of Adamawa and Taraba states.

    He said the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigations.
