  • JUST IN: Nine months after gruesome murder, Police arrest Funke Olakunrin’s killers

Four men suspected to have murdered Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti have been arrested.

IGP Mohammed Adamu announced the arrests of the four suspects on Thursday.

But he said four other suspects, including the ringleader named Tambaya are on the run.

Adamu has declared Tambaya a wanted man.

Those arrested are: Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele, Kogi and Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada in Adamawa.

The other two are Mohammed Shehu Usman, 26, from Illela Sokoto and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi, Zamfara state.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Funke Olakunrin was killed at Kajola on Ondo-Ore Road on 12 July 2019.

The murder, suspected to be by Fulani marauders triggered national uproar.

The police in a statement explained how the suspects were nabbed by a police crack team led by CP Fimihan Adeoye.

“After months of relentless efforts to apprehend the killers, the Police Team, on 4th March, 2020 during a follow-up action on a case of a high-profile armed robbery and kidnap for ransom that occurred in Ogun State, arrested one Auwal Abubakar ‘m’ 25yrs, an accessory after the fact of the crime, along Sagamu-Ore expressway in Ondo State.

“The arrest of Auwal Abubakar led to the arrest of two other members of the gang, Mohammed Shehu Usman and Lawal Mazaje in Benin, Edo State from whom cache of ammunition was recovered and one other Adamu Adamu in Akure, Ondo State.

“Having established sufficient physical and forensic evidence linking the suspects to the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the investigators, determined to clear all doubts relating to their findings.

“On 8th April, 2020, they conducted an Identification Parade at the Federal SARS Headquarters, Lagos which led to the positive and physical identification of three (3) suspects, Adamu Adamu, Lawal Mazaje and Mohammed Shehu Usman by a survivor of the earlier crime.

“The survivor gave a clear description of the roles each of the identified suspects played in the killing.

“At this point, the suspects capitulated and voluntarily offered a no-holds-barred confession on how Mrs Funke Olakunrin was killed.

“Investigations so far reveal that the operation that led to the killing was carried out by eight fully armed kidnap/robbery suspects led by one Tambaya (other name unknown) who is currently at large.

“While four of the suspects are in custody, effort is being intensified to arrest the four others still on the run.

“The 8-man gang has its operational base and membership spread in the south-western part of the country and Edo State.

“Investigations have also revealed that they are responsible for series of high-profile armed robbery and kidnap operations in the region.

“They also attack, vandalize and steal components of critical national infrastructures such as electrical and telecommunications installations.

“Consequently, the Inspector General of Police hereby declares the principal suspect, Tambaya (other names unknown) wanted for his involvement in the death of Mrs Funke Olakunrin.

“Tambaya, a Nigerian, speaks Hausa, Fulfulde and Pidgin English.

“He is fair in complexion and in his late 20s – between the age of 27 and 30.

“His last known address is Isanlu, Kogi State. He has visible scar from stitches on his forehead down to his nose and mouth”.

The Kogi state police command has announced the arrest of six persons in connection with the killing of Salome Abuh, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) woman leader in the state.

She was burnt alive in her house during the collation of the November 16 governorship election result.

While parading the suspects in Lokoja, the state capital, on Tuesday, Akeem Busari, commissioner of police, said his men in collaboration with local vigilantes arrested them on November 22.

He identified the six suspects as Ocholi Edicha, Adamu Haruna, Onu Egbunu, Musa Alidu, Attai Haruna and Attah Ejeh.

Busari said Edicha confessed he led the gang to Abuh’s house and also revealed that they had been masterminding a series of robberies in the state.

The commissioner of police said all those involved in the act will not go unpunished as investigation was ongoing.

The suspects, however, denied killing Abuh but admitted being thieves operating in the area.

Abuh was buried during the weekend. At her funeral, Abuh’s widower said she paid the ultimate sacrifice for unity.

  • IG offers N5m bounty for information on killers of Abuja, Edo policemen

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has offered a N5 million reward for information on the killers of seven policemen in the Federal Capital Territory on July 2 and the murder of four cops in Edo State on July 14.

The IG urged anyone with useful tips to come forward, stating that any information given would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The seven policemen were on routine ‘stop and search’ duty when unknown gunmen attacked and killed them, taking away some of their firearms. Five suspects have, however, been apprehended in connection with the incident.

The latest killing of policemen reportedly occurred in Sabon Gida, Ora, in Edo State last Saturday where four policemen were shot dead and their patrol vehicles razed by suspected criminals.

The force spokesman, acting DCP, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, explained that police detectives needed credible information from the public to arrest the killers.

He said, “In order to arrest the other suspects still at large in the first incident, the Force is desirous of more credible information from the public, and hereby pledges a reward of N5m to any member of the public that provides useful information that leads to the arrest of the remaining perpetrators of the ambush attack and killing of seven policemen in Abuja or the recent ambush and killing of four policemen on patrol at Sabon Gida, Ora, in Edo State on July 14, 2018.”

“The Force wishes to assure that the informant will be protected and his/her identity secured,” the police added.

The statement said the IG had also ordered Commissioners of Police and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to beef up security in their Areas of Responsibilities.

They were equally mandated to embark on massive raids of criminal hideouts and flashpoints across the country to forestall any further attack.

“The IG further placed the Commissioners of Police and police personnel nationwide on red alert and directs 24 hours crime prevention and visibility patrol of flash and vulnerable points in their jurisdictions,” the force said.

The police spokesman revealed that the IG had directed the prompt payment of the entitlements of the deceased officers.

  • Ozubulu: ‘Killers threaten to attack four more families’

One of the witnesses in the Ozubulu Church killings in Anambra state, Chukwuemeka Obi, Friday told the court in Awka, Anambra state that those who masterminded the killings have threatened to carry out more attacks in four families in the community.

Not only that, he also told the court that they equally threatened to carry out such attacks on other members of the community based in South Africa and Brazil.

The revelation came at the Nnewi High court now sitting in Awka because of threats on witnesses, which is being presided over by Justice F I Aniukwu.

It would be recalled that on August 6, 2017 unknown gun men stormed Saint Philip’s Catholic Church Amakwa Ozubulu and killed 13 persons, while 29 others were seriously injured.

Obi, who was a witness from Johannesburg, South Africa, revealed the threats by the suspects as he was being led in evidence in Chief by his lawyer, Jay Jay Ezeuko SAN.

According to him, “The killers have threatened to kill my father in Ozubulu, attack four families in Ozubulu; kill my younger brother who is living in Brazil and myself who is living in South Africa”

“They are demanding one million dollars from us or they will wipe all us. We have been receiving strange phone calls from these people”

“They accused me of being a betrayer because on one occasion, I traveled with Bishop (Aloysius Ikegwuonu) from South Africa to Nigeria; rode in his (Bishop’s) car from Lagos to Ozubulu”

The witness further alleged that one of the suspects, Chinedu Akpunonu, who was equally standing trial in the matter, was working with two persons he called Gozila and Afam

Both suspects, he said, were in jail in South African prison to terrorize the people of Ozubulu at home and abroad.

Also Emeka Nzelu, another witness based in South Africa, told the court that another suspect standing trial in the case, Onyebuchi Mbanefo, called him on phone and threatened to deal with “bishop”(Aloysius Ikegwuonwu) for abandoning him when he needed his help.

According to Nzelu , “Mbanefo told me that he would now join forces with Akpunonu to deal with bishop for failing to assist him to foot his bill for bullet wound surgery, despite the fact that it was because of bishop that he sustained the wound”

“He refused to accept all appeals I made to him to forgive bishop (ikegeuonwu)

Asked by Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, who is the defence counsel, whether he reported that such threat to the police in South Africa or Nigeria, Nzelu answered in the negative.

Rather, he said he reported the matter to the chairman of Ozubulu Development Union O D U in South Africa.

However, after listening to the witnesses and their Counsels, the trial judge, Justice Aniukwu refused bail application for the four suspects standing trial in the August 6 killings.

The Judge in his ruling said the risk of releasing the suspects outweighed their freedom.

The Justice said, the suspects did not prove exceptional circumstance to warrant their bail.

The suspects had stated in their bail application that they were innocent of the charges against them

They maintained that before the law they remained innocent and entitled to bail.

They also stated that they had health conditions that the prison health facilities could not handle.

Agreeing that ill health was a ground to grant suspects bail in criminal matters, the judge said in his thinking since the prosecution was handling the matter expeditiously, it was better to keep the suspects intact to face their case than risking granting them bail where they might abandon the case or jump bail.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr. Festus Keyamo, after the session, told reporters that he had got the brief of his clients to go on interlocutory appeal on the bail.

The presiding judge, Justice Aniukwu, adjourned the matter to May 16th and 25th, June 8th and 22nd; and July 6 for continuation.

  • Video: Military collaborating with armed bandits to kill Nigerians – TY Danjuma

…urges Nigerians to defend selves against killers

A former Minister of Defense, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), on Saturday, accused the Nigerian military of collaborating with armed to kill innocent Nigerians.

Danjuma revealed this while speaking at the maiden convocation of the Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State.

“The military are helping the herdsmen to kill Nigerians. They cannot stop the killings because they are in agreement with them. If you wait for the military to stop these killings we will all die,” Danjuma said, urging Nigerians to defend themselves against the killers.

Speaking further, Danjuma said: “I am not a politician and politics is one profession I don’t want to belong to because if I am a politician, I would not say what I am going to say to you now.

“When I arrived this arena, I saw rich cultural display, and I was amazed at the rich cultural heritage of our people. Taraba is a mini Nigeria with diverse ethnic groups living together peacefully, but the peace in this state is under assault.

“There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in the state and of course, some rural states in Nigeria.

“We must resist it. We must stop it. Every one of us must rise up.”

Benue, Rivers massacres: Adeboye condemns killings; says culprits will soon be exposed

Worried by the incessant cases of killings and kidnappings in the country, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye has condemned the act while assuring that God will soon arrest the perpetrators.

Leading his congregation in prayers, at the February 2018 Holy Ghost Service tagged “Stronger than your enemies – Part 2”, held at the Redemption Camp, Adeboye asked the congregation, which included the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to pray that God should expose and deal with those that are shedding blood, and those that are sponsoring them.

In his words “Father, wherever those who are shedding bloods are hiding, please expose and deal with them. All those who are condoling evil or colluding with them, wherever they may be please expose and deal with them. All those who are sponsoring evil and bloodshed, please expose and destroy them.”

Responding to those who have accused him of being silent on the issue, the General Overseer said “I am a Christian and I belong to the Christian Association of Nigeria which has a President. So whatever the President says is what I say. I am also a Pentecostal and I belong to the Pentecostal Association of Nigeria. So whatever the President says is what I say. That is how to be under authority.”

Recall that over 50 persons were murdered by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State in the first two days of January, 2018. There have also been several cases of kidnappings in some parts of the country. Reports say that the herdsmen started attack since the Benue State Government implemented the anti-grazing law, giving the herdsmen no space to feed their cows.

  • UNIOSUN student murder: Aregbesola vows to prosecute, punish killer cleric

UNIOSUN student murder: Aregbesola vows to prosecute, punish killer cleric

…appeals to students to keep calm

The Osun State Government has condemned the murder of Timilehin Sonibare, a final year student of Osun State University who was allegedly killed by a Muslim cleric and three others.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Police in Osun on Tuesday paraded a cleric, Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, and his suspected accomplices, Ibrahim Ayuba and Yusuf Aliu, over the death of Shonibare who was declared missing earlier in June.

The government promised to punish the offenders once convicted by appropriate courts.

It also condoled with Timilehin’s parents and family.

Investigations revealed that the 400 Level student of Microbiology Department was called out by a neighbour, Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, 10 days ago; but his decomposing remains were found at the back of an Alfa’s house on Tuesday.

The police have arrested three persons in connection with the crime.

Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adelani Baderinwa, in a statement on Wednesday, described Sonibare’s killing as “callous, painful and disheartening,” vowing that the perpetrators would be adequately punished.

The government also commiserates with students populace in particular and the entire UNIOSUN community.

Baderinwa noted that Sonibare’s cruel killing was a blight on the state, which had been in a celebratory mood after one of its students performed spectacularly in a Ukraine medical college.

He said, “We condemn in strong terms the wicked and conscienceless manner in which the death of Timilehin was perpetrated.

“It is most callous, painful and disheartening that fellow humans could plan and execute the elimination of another for self-aggrandizement.

“We note with sadness that it is one of the unfortunate degeneration of values in our society whereby people want to be rich without work.

“Government feels the pain of Timilehin’s death the more in view of the fact that it came when UNIOSUN is celebrating its winning in the world by the spectacular performance of one of its own in far away Ukraine.

“Government takes solace in the fact that the security agencies have got hold of some of those who committed the heinous crime.

“It is the determination of the government to collaborate effectively with the security agents to see to it that the offenders are adequately punished.

“Government makes a passionate appeal to the students populace to keep calm and peaceful while they rightfully mourn their colleague and allow the killers to be dealt with.”

  • Pastors are Jesus killers – Aribisala

Pastors are Jesus killers – Aribisala

    By Femi Aribisala
The presumed principal custodians of our faith; the pastors, bishops and popes of our churches, are ungodly and unrighteous.
Christians are told lies so repeatedly; many no longer recognise the truth. Answer me this: did your pastor happen to mention that Jesus was killed by pastors?
Not likely! Pastors don’t want people to know their fore-fathers killed Jesus; otherwise they would soon recognise they too are in the same business. Jesus says to the pastors of old: “You are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.” (Matthew 23:31). Even so, the pastors of today testify against themselves that they are the descendants of those who killed Jesus.
    Testimony of Jesus
Let me tell you a story you must have heard before but have probably been led to misunderstand. Jesus told the story to some pastors and they were very angry with him because they recognised it was a veiled attack on them. They even wanted to kill him right there and then but held back because of the crowds. Perhaps you need to listen to the story one more time.
“There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country. Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.”
“Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.” (Matthew 21:33-40).
Let us get certain things straight about this true-to-life story. The landowner is God. The servants of the landowner are the prophets. The son is Jesus Christ. The vinedressers are the priests and the pastors.
What you may not have realised is that, precisely because Jesus told this story against pastors, they have gone to great lengths to distort it. They now insist it was not the vinedressers who killed the son of the landowner, but that the landowner himself killed his own son. They tell men God sacrificed Jesus for their sins, instead of the fact that pastors killed Jesus in order to continue in their own sins.
    Mercy and not sacrifice
Jeremiah says: “Among my people are found wicked men; they lie in wait as one who sets snares; they set a trap; they catch men.” (Jeremiah 5:26). Who are these wicked men? Make no mistake about it; pastors are at the top of the list.
Hosea says: “The priests are like a gang of robbers who wait in ambush for a man. Even on the road to the holy place at Shechem they commit murder. And they do all this evil deliberately!” (Hosea 6:9). Today, there are even gangs of Catholic priests raping young boys.
Jesus said prophetically to the Pharisees: “If you had known what this means, I desire mercy and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.” (Matthew 12:7). What did he mean? He meant if they understood the love of God, they would not kill him, an innocent man, in order to protect their corrupt lifestyles. If pastors today knew the love of God, they would not continue to kill Jesus by misrepresenting him.
A man walked in on a gang of men robbing a bank. He switched on the light and declared: “Repent. I am the light of the world.” What do you think the robbers did to him? They had him killed, switched off the light and continued with their robbery. They then claimed it was God who killed him as a sacrifice for the sins of men. But God demonstrated unequivocally that he was not responsible for Jesus’ death by raising him from the dead.
    Fleecing the flock
Jesus says: “I am the good pastor.” (John 10:11). “All who ever came before me are thieves and robbers.” (John 10:8). Those who came after him are no different. Their primary focus is to fleece people of their money so as to build up their own kingdoms. Jeremiah says: “They are as greedy as dogs, never satisfied; they are stupid pastors who only look after their own interest, each trying to get as much as he can for himself from every possible source.” (Isaiah 56:11).
In many respects, what holds today is no different from the falsehood popularised in the days of Martin Luther, when priests maintained a man could purchase forgiveness of sins for a dead relative by giving money to the Catholic Church. The Dominican monk, Johann Tetzel, was one of those sent out by the pope to preach this message in order to raise money for the church.
His message was straightforward: give money and your sins will be forgiven. Like the pastors of today, he came up with a popular refrain: “As soon as a coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs.”
    Unrighteous pastors
Jesus came to set the captives free by giving us true first-hand information about God. But after he did, pastors have endeavoured to distort even the true portrait he gave.
They pretend to reveal God to men but have a vested interest in ensuring they don’t know him. How would they continue to rip people off if they were to know the truth of Jesus’ message that makes men free? (John 8:32). The result is that more falsehood about God is taught in the churches today than almost anywhere else.
So what does Jesus do about this? First, he tells us a parable that a man travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho was attacked by armed robbers and left for dead. A priest came along, saw the dying man but quickly walked away.
A pastor also came along but he too ignored the dying man. Finally, a Good Samaritan came along. He bound up the wounds of the poor man, took him to the hospital and paid for all his medical expenses. When the man recovers, should he remain the disciple of priests and pastors? Certainly not!
Jesus is the Good Samaritan. One of his major assignments is to convince us that the presumed principal custodians of our faith; the chief priests, the Pharisees, the religious hierarchy; indeed the pastors, bishops and popes of our churches, are ungodly and unrighteous. Accordingly he says to them: “Assuredly, tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.” (Matthew 21:31).
Jesus’ life demonstrates this conclusively because these so-called “men of God” kill him, an innocent man, in order to protect their interests and positions. Jesus’ adversaries were not “sinners” but “holy” and religious pastors. Therefore, contrary to what it seems, many of those who claim to speak for God are not of God. Instead, they rob men of God. They rob them of his knowledge by presenting counterfeit portraits of God. They rob them so that they and not God would be the gods of their lives.
