    Davido to feature on King Charles III’s commonwealth playlist

    King Charles III  has selected Afrobeat star, David Adeleke better known as Davido to feature on his exclusive playlist ‘King’s Music Room’.

    The playlist, which was curated by the king and recorded at Buckingham Palace, will feature favorite tracks from artistes across the commonwealth, including Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones.

    The king created the playlist to share the music that brings him joy, highlighting the impact of music on his life. He also shared anecdotes about his encounters with some of the artistes featured.

    He said, “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others.

    “It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places.

    “But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy.”

    The playlist will be available exclusively on Apple Music 1 in celebration of Commonwealth Day 2025.

    President Tinubu meets King Charles in England

    President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday paid a visit to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, United Kingdom.

    According to the Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun on Thursday via the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter, the visit, was aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties with the United Kingdom.

    He wrote, “President Bola Tinubu visited His Majesty, King Charles, at Buckingham Palace. The significant meeting highlighted the ongoing diplomatic ties and partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”

    The United Kingdom Royal Family via social media confirmed the visit, with of photo of the two leaders at Buckingham Palace.

    The post was caption, “Yesterday, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria visited His Majesty at Buckingham Palace.”

    Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy to the president also noted via social media that both leaders first met in November 2023 on the sidelines of COP 28 climate summit in Dubai, UAE.

    Nigeria’s Salpha Energy, with King Charles III as Patron, wins Ashden Awards for outstanding climate innovation

    Salpha Energy, Nigeria’s solar power platform, has won the Ashden Award for Energy Innovation (Global South), supported by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

    The annual Ashden Awards revealed their 2024 winners at London’s Climate Action Week, the largest city-wide climate festival in Europe, happening from 22-30 June.

    Every year, the Ashden Awards highlight inclusive climate solutions – work that creates a fairer world, as well as lowering emissions, and preparing communities for climate threats.

    Salpha Energy was revealed as one of seven winners at the 2024 Ashden Awards, which were at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in London on 27 June, 2024.

    Salpha produces made-in-Africa solar systems and DC appliances, and helps households and businesses switch on to clean power, by giving customers access to affordable loans and finance. Since inception, the company has empowered over 1,500,000 people with reliable solar energy, installed more than 6.7 GWh of solar capacity, and reduced carbon emissions by over 4 million tons.

    With a production capacity of 300,000 systems per year from its assembly facility, Salpha has created over 1,050 direct and indirect jobs and is pioneering gender inclusivity by attracting women to technical roles and providing training and mentorship, promoting sustainable energy solutions and economic empowerment.

    More than 500 organisations applied for the 2024 Ashden Awards and Salpha Energy was one of just two finalists in the Global South winners and categories, securing its place after a rigorous assessment and judging process and input from sector experts, including academics, business leaders, investors and journalists. The Ashden Awards were launched in 2000 and honours innovators from the public, private and non-profit sectors.

    Salpha Energy will receive a grant of £25,000 and other support to help them scale-up their work, such as publicity, connection to funders, investors and climate sector leaders.

    Nigerian disc jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has expressed happiness over her recent appointment as King’s Trust International Ambassador to British monarch, King Charles III.

    It would be recalled that  DJ Cuppy was appointed as a King’s Trust International Ambassador by King Charles III during a reception at Buckingham Palace on Friday in celebration of The King’s Trust Awards 2024.

    Reacting to her appointment, DJ Cuppy said she was honoured and proud of the new role.

    “I am so proud to be a @KingsTrustInt Ambassador.”

    British King to address French Senate first time

    British King Charles III will address the French Senate on Thursday for the first time in history.

    Charles is the only British monarch ever to speak from the senate chamber, where he will remark on the close friendship between the UK and France.

    A Guard of Honour will line the King’s route to the Salle des Conferences where he would meet representatives from the Senate and National Assembly and sign the visitors’ book before entering the chamber to deliver his address.

    Charles and Queen Camilla are then set to meet sports stars in the Saint-Denis suburb of Paris, where France is hosting the Rugby World Cup, as part of their state visit, which began on Wednesday.

    The king and queen would be joined for the visit by Brigitte Macron as well as sports personalities.

    They will also visit a coffee shop on the town square where they will meet beneficiaries of Objectif Emploi, an organisation in Saint-Denis that helps vulnerable young people to find careers.

    They will also meet representatives from The Prince’s Trust International.

    The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari stay longer in London, United Kingdom (UK), where he had gone to attend the coronation of King Charles III.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s spokesman, as saying Buhari will stay in London for an additional week, at the behest of his Dentist, who he disclosed has started attending to him.

    Mr Adesina, who made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, wrote: ”The Specialist requires to see the President in another five days for a procedure already commenced”.

    President Buhari had joined other world leaders to attend the coronation of King Charles lll on May 6, 2023.

    Coronation fly-past scaled down due to bad weather

    A fly-past to mark the King’s coronation in London was scaled down due to “unsuitable weather conditions”.

    More than 60 aircraft from the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force had been due to take part.

    But the event only involved helicopters and the Red Arrows aerobatic display team, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

    The King and Queen were expected to watch the flypast from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

    The display over The Mall and Buckingham Palace was originally meant to last for six minutes, but the scaled-down version will last for less than half of that time.

    The MoD said it would last for two minutes and 30 seconds.

    Amid spectacular scenes in London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom (UK), His Majesty, King Charles III has officially been crowned King.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports King Charles III was crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby on Saturday at Westminster Abbey.

    Before he was crowned, King Charles swore to govern the people with justice and mercy and to uphold the Anglican Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.

    The King turned to each of the four points of the compass before The Archbishop of Canterbury proclaimed him the “undoubted King”.

    The congregation shouted, “God Save King Charles!”.

    Travelling in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of Household Cavalry, The King and The Queen arrived at Westminster Abbey for the Coronation Service.

    King Charles III alongside Queen Consort Camilla were  both welcome at the Buckingham Palace by a huge crowd as he prepares for his historic Coronation.

    The coronation of King Charles III will be witnessed by more than 100million people around the world as it is the historic first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years, with an estimated 2million people on the streets of London to watch history unfold.

    The monarch had been heir since the age of three, and is now ready to officially become the King.

    VIP guests queued for a mile from 6am to get one of the prime 2,300 seats inside. The Abbey was full at just before 9am.

    Stars seen inside the church are Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Fry, Nick Cave, and magician Dynamo, as well as Dame Emma Thompson and many others.

    They will watch Charles be crowned in a Christian ceremony that dates back for 1,000 years on a day dripping with glorious displays of pageantry.

    Guests of the King started arriving at the Abbey from 7am, four hours before the ceremony. About 100 heads of state are in London, with representatives from 203 countries due to attend.

    The royal guest list for King Charles III’s upcoming coronation will include Prince Harry.

    The Duke of Sussex is set to attend his father’s ceremony on May 6, while Meghan Markle will not make the trip overseas, a rep for the couple told E! News on April 12.

    According to the statement, the Duchess of Sussex will be staying in California with kids — Archie Harrison, 3 years, and Lilibet Diana, 22 months.

    Buckingham Palace also confirmed Harry’s attendance to the coronation, which falls on Archie’s 4th birthday.

    This update comes one month after a rep for Harry and Meghan confirmed that they had received “email correspondence” from the king’s office about the coronation.

    At the time, the couple’s spokesperson told the Associated Press, “An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.” However, they have now come to a decision that just Harry will join his family at the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey.

    During the service, which will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Charles will be formally crowned alongside Queen Consort Camilla. “The coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future,” the Palace previously said, “while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.”

    On April 4, more details were announced about the royal ceremony, including the role Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son, Prince George, will play in the coronation.

    The 9-year-old will serve as one of the eight Pages of Honour that will walk the procession and carry the robes inside Westminster Abbey. Joining George in this duty will be Camilla’s grandchildren, Freddy Parker Bowles, Gus Lopes and Louis Lopes, along with her great-nephew Arthur Elliot.

    The royal family has also made sure that the late Queen Elizabeth II’s spirit is felt during the coronation proceedings, even featuring the lily of the valley — a favourite flower of the monarch — on the invitations.
